I’ve been using this style for years and love them

https://www.amazon.com/Wood-cane-comfortable-sufferers-distributes/dp/B000VWRK1Y/ref=sr_1_29?keywords=Ergonomic+cane&qid=1564172588&s=gateway&sr=8-29

They come in brown and black and I’ve seen various handle colors. I got my first one in a high end cane store about 60 miles from home so was glad I found them on Amazon. This handle style is made to be kind to your hand and wrist. To use it correctly it needs to be sized on the taller side so that your hand rests comfortably without a lot of wrist bending. The added height makes it look more like a walking stick. I’ve had lots of people comment on how nice this cane looks and used them in business settings for years.

The one downside is that it is either only left or right handed which hasn’t been a problem for me as I always use the same hand anyway.

Yeah, my family got one of these for my dad at some point in the late 90s, from some "museum gift store" type place in the mall; I imagine OP's is older, but /u/XXyo80XX def. has a pretty common one. It is also super cool and I ended up playing around with it more than my dad ever did.

e: in fact, you can buy one on Amazon right now for $70.

u/notdeadpool · 3 pointsr/rheumatoid

I am 35 and used a cane from 30. Can I recommend getting a cane with a swan neck (https://www.amazon.co.uk/Drive-DeVilbiss-Healthcare-Folding-Walking/dp/B009DZP89Q/ref=sr_1_1_a_it?ie=UTF8&qid=1543599739&sr=8-1&keywords=swan+neck+cane) these make it easier on your hands so when you use it you don't get hand cramp (I have 2 blue ones). You can search for "switch sticks" to get some jazzy looking ones but the handles are not as nice.

Anything that helps you feel better is worth getting. Do not worry about the judgmental people. When you don't need the stick you can tell everyone you are having a good day today.

  1. When you drink wine you must do it like a sir and every good sir needs a cane

  2. I have a broom but could use the cleaning tool chest to keep things clean so mom doesn't try and ground me.

  3. No need for a hat but i'm often told i need a helmet

  4. Plenty of books to whisk me away in this house but never enough light to read by, but I have wished for a book light.

  5. Unfortunately my bike didn't come equipped with a trunk but a bike bag would serve well.

Bonus: Haven't you heard about how dangerous capes are? Do you want me to get sucked into a jet engine? I prefer to show my super hero side as glow in the dark man (keep that quiet ok, its a secret) with some of the electric neon wire.

Great job, I found the same design/video online and made the board with Jatoba and Ambrosia maple. A joiner definitely helped. But hey, great job. I made a small addition to mine that I would recommend. I put 4 of these in the corners

http://www.amazon.com/MintCraft-Black-Rubber-Screw-360-1044/dp/B000KL2BXI/ref=sr_1_14?ie=UTF8&qid=1370569780&sr=8-14&keywords=rubber+feet

It helps prevent water getting underneath and causing problems such as cracks.

This is what i have, Dr House hot rod flames, but it's carbob fibre and folding so it's light and you can put it in a bag if you're feeling well enough to put it away :) It's a lot more expensive than drug store canes but mine is about 8 years old and looks new whereas the drug store ones wear out very fast

Edit: check the height you need at the drug store. I'm pretty short so even the smallest one is a bit tall for me.

u/Pluviotrekkie · 1 pointr/malefashionadvice

I need help selecting an outfit for my grandmothers wake.

My grandmother just died about a month ago and since she was cremated it allowed us to have her memorial at the end of June. At this memorial is going to be family I haven't seen in quite some time. I would like to look nice.

I was thinking of buying a sports coat but I've never worn one and I'm not sure how to wear one or what type of shirts/pants to wear them with.

I'm balding and I like to wear my grey tweed newsboy type cap. Also I broke my leg and have started using a cane this one to be exact.

I also have a medium long beard.

I'm also not sure what color or type of material to buy in a sports coat. I was thinking grey to match my cap with the suede elbows or is that too cliche?

Any help/advice would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks!

u/mossenmeisje · 4 pointsr/Fibromyalgia

I have this one. It's foldable so it fits in my bag when I don't use it, and I actually like that it has a fun print - makes it feel a bit more like it was made for a young person (even though I also see plenty of old ladies with flowered canes). If it's a bit too flashy or expensive for you, I'm sure you can find something similar.

If you don't need it to be compact, you could also look into using a single elbow crutch, since people tend to associate those more with injury/disability rather than old age.

u/mouthie · 2 pointsr/Random_Acts_Of_Amazon

Great contest idea!! I have a few things so I'll let you choose. Medication bag with lock for my most wanted drugs lol,&... a cane that I've totally avoided buying due to I just don't want to accept that some days I need it ugh ugh .......I have lots of warm socks on my list due to my neuropathy, this is one example but surprised are cool You're so right though, I'm always taking care of everyone else yet I'm the most messed up health wise atm. It's a mom thing yo!

u/quietlavender · 3 pointsr/youseeingthisshit

I just gave one like this to a friend of mine, and he loves it. We got a ton of use out of it, and also having pots it was great for those sudden heart rate spikes where you need to sit down voluntarily before your body takes itself out (both of us have pots, eds, and more but his condition is more severe). There are a ton on Amazon, and some drug stores even have ones similar

Thanks for doing this, you are an amazing person. I have a great fun fact about glacier national park in Montana that almost no one is aware of...it has a rain forest! I saw it when I was in HS and my biology teacher took us on a trip. The rain forest was in a deep valley between two mountains. The mountains trapped humid warm air in the valley and allowed the ferns, orchids and cedar trees to grow. There isn't much information about it on the web, but this is what I could find:

I really need a walking cane. This one is on sale for $10.99 with free shipping: https://www.amazon.com/Ez2care-Classic-Handle-Strap-Black/dp/B009OEAYL8/ If that is too much then maybe some earbuds as my last pair of headphones stopped working: https://www.amazon.com/Panasonic-RP-HJE120-PPK-In-Ear-Headphone-Black/dp/B003EM2WAW/

u/premier-cat-arena · 4 pointsr/cfs

I have this one and it’s helpful for a variety of stuff, not just in the kitchen. I use it in the bathroom as well while brushing my teeth and used to use it for waiting in lines when going out as well.

Edit: the way the show in the photo to sit on it is ridiculous. I’ve never used it that way and it’s been fine. Look at the photo if you need a laugh

u/Manatea123 · 9 pointsr/MultipleSclerosis

I second (third) the cane suggestion...I don't use the thing 100% of the time, but it's definitely good to have on any public transit trips to give another point of contact with the ground, and not have to explain yrself when you take a handicapped seat. plus they come in sassy patterns now! Not too expensive, either...https://www.amazon.com/NOVA-Designer-Offset-Handle-Flowers/dp/B004993WN0/ref=pd_lpo_vtph_121_bs_tr_t_1?_encoding=UTF8&refRID=89S04E78PY7GHW0WH871&th=1

MS-er here. This one is pretty great. I’ve used it for 6 months with no issues. Travels well, and fits into a purse! Vive Folding Cane - $16

I had to have a fasciotomy due to compartmental swelling to save my leg. So I don't know how many sutures you have.

https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B07H11D796 (not until a week after suture removal.) Otherwise I kept pressure with a long long ace bandage securely wrapped.

Best of luck man, it's a long road but we will get there.

How'd it happen?

edit: also it may be bs but I bought supplements for bone regeneration and take these everyday https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B008HFUIAM

I feel you. When I realized the cane was long-term, not temporary, I had a brief meltdown. But then I went from the ugly brass hospital cane to a cane in a color I loved. I realized I needed to own it.

A friend then gave me the Hurrycane as a gift, and that was even better! It folds up, which is super convenient, it (mostly) stands up on its own, and it comes in different colors. Also, the bottom is a bit more stable than the traditional cane.

It also comes with options like LED lights and memory foam handles, but I haven’t tried those.
