Hey everyone,
I suffer from Seborrheic dermatitis, so the only products I am using are from this helpful list. I am currently using the Benton Aloe Propolis Soothing Gel mixed with The Ordinary's Squalane and the Vanicream Gentle Facial Cleanser and for the first time I feel like I am having actual success.
So I wanted to make the next step and introduce sunscreen. I ordered the CÅTZ FACE Natural Tinted
SPF 40, but unfortunately it breaks me out.
I definitely wanted a mattifying sunscreen, since regardless of which product I am using, I always get noticeably oily/greasy 1-2 hours after applying products. So to try other sunscreens from that list, I ordered the Biore Uv Perfect Face Milk Spf50 + / Pa ++++ and the Skin Aqua Super Moisture Milk (SPF50 PA ++++). It is going to take some time until they arrive, but I thought I could already ask some questions:
According to Fiftyshadesofsnail the Skin Aqua Super Moisture Milk dries down to a clear satin finish that can go more matte or more dewy depending on your skin condition and what skincare you have underneath. Considering my situation, it might end up too dewy for me. My inital idea was to simply apply it over my Benton Aloe Propolis Gel + Squalane mix and in case that this will end up too dewy, I wanted to test using this over the Benton Gel without the squalane. However if this still ends up being too dewy, would it be okay to use the Skin Aqua Super Moisture Milk without any actual moisturizer under it, or would I be missing out on some important skin benefits?
My next question would be if the Vanicream Gentle Facial Cleanser will be enough to remove the Biore and the Skin Aqua sunscreens. I have read somewhere that I might need an oil cleanser for this. I currently have this Mystic Moments White Mineral Oil Carrier Oil 100% Pure, but I didn't like how it doesn't really get off when using water. I have read that if you mix it with 10-15% cromollient SCE it'll be better, but I live in Europe, Germany and I don't know where I can get that here.
Thank you for any kind of help!
English, do you speak it?
So I saw Telephone mentioned, but I'd like to suggest Telephone Pictionary instead, because I love it.
Note: Unadviced to play in groups large than, maybe 10. Only because at that point it really takes a while. Also groups smaller than 4 don't get very intersting.
Also, I didn't mean for it to be so long. I just wanted to be specific in the instructions.
It's really simple, and SO fun. You don't need to draw well, in fact drawing badly can usually lead to weirdly end results. Plus all you need is paper and pencils.
If I win I would love to have this.
Late to the party but I wanted to chime in cause I'm on the second month of my second round of Accutane, currently at 60mg.
Basically your skin profile will change to sensitive, dry and dehydrated and you have to treat it as such, which means a lot of pampering for the next couple of months. I took the general advice of nothing but CeraVe and Aquaphor for my first course and I think I did more damage that way. I switched over to r/AsianBeauty afterwards trying to fix the leftover scars and because of all I've learned over there, my second round is going quite smoothly.
Here's what I do:
I only do the oil & foam cleanse at night, usually just water in the morning. With this routine I've actually been able to use a couple actives with no problems, mainly Stridex in the red box every other day at the beginning to calm my initial breakout.Another trick I use is I apply a thin layer of Prosacea to affected areas. You can get these two at a CVS or Walgreens. Also, I'm a picker and I found that if I pick and pop something, this routine plus a hydrocolloid bandage on top works miracles: the zit heals faster than it should on Accutane and the mark it leaves behind is gone/significantly faded within two weeks.
Results: Two months into accutane and my skin shows no signs of dryness. It stays hydrated all day so all I have to worry about is my chapped lips. My scars are fading at a phenomenal rate and I even glow a little from all the moisture. You may find it daunting at first, so maybe start out with the foam cleanser, the toner, the ceramide gel and the sunscreen. I'd also suggest going over to r/AsianBeauty and doing a search for dry, sensitive skin if you want more options.
I hope this helps and good luck! You'll look and feel amazing afterwards.
Edit: Supplements! I take fish oil, evening primrose oil and vitamin D.
Ooh, my time to shine! Swimming hair care expert here- swim 6x a week for ~90 minutes a session in chlorinated pools and still maintain shiny gorgeous locks. Do the following and you'll be good:
Researching a ton about pressing but still some things i'm curious about. If I use FCO as my binder I do not need a preservative? I understand FCO has an indefinite shelf life but still no preservative is needed to prevent mold? I plan on of course making sure they fully dry after pressing but just looking to make double sure I dont ruin them with mold by not using one.
Second question is there any specific FCOs I should look for or stay away from on amazon before ordering? I see many touted as therapeutic grade, great for massages, etc but i'm not going to use it for that stuff and didnt know if those ones had added stuff in them I didnt want or if it didnt matter. I also seen some say they stayed a liquid which i'm guessing is not okay, or is it? Is that one okay or this one?
Most Vitamin E oil is mixed with other things - i've used a ton of brands over the last decade of lobe stretching and the biggest difference i have noticed is that usually the stuff that comes in a bottle is thinner/easier to apply than breaking open the little capsules. I think right now i have this bottle
http://www.amazon.com/Natural-Vitamin-Beauty-9000IU-Ounces/dp/B00014GBZ8/ref=sr_1_15?s=hpc&ie=UTF8&qid=1375477681&sr=1-15&keywords=vitamin+e+oil+for+skin
That said - if you are trying to heal scars (not earlobes) you might have better results with something like mederma or scargo. I was introduced to mederma because my aunt used it on her implant scars and she recommended it. Also taking vitamin e and zinc orally (whatever the daily recommend is) can help your body to build new cells and break down old ones...good luck.
I have very dry skin, and would say that most of the moisturisers I've tried - including some highly recommended - had the same problem of them not doing much except for the first couple of hours. Two things that appeared to have a more long term effect are Mineral Oil (baby oil is scented mineral oil, so if you can put up with the smell it's a cheap easy way of getting some) and products with Hyaluronic Acid, which helps your skin hold more moisture. For the latter, the Ordinary is a good way to get some on a budget, and a few of their other products have Hyaluronic acid added in too.
You should also wear sunscreen whenever you leave the house. I got this Altruist sunscreen after seeing it recommended in this subreddit, and it's great value, no white cast or pilling, and gets on well with my dry skin.
Sure! I use a mix of castor, grapeseed, and argan oil. Jojoba didn't work that well for me. This is the castor:
http://www.amazon.com/Heritage-Store-Castor-Oil-Ounce/dp/B000BNRKPY/ref=sr_1_15_s_it?s=hpc&ie=UTF8&qid=1458751502&sr=1-15&keywords=Castor+oil
Grapeseed:
http://www.amazon.com/Now-Foods-Grape-Seed-Ounce/dp/B000RZPVV6/ref=sr_1_4_s_it?s=hpc&ie=UTF8&qid=1458751626&sr=1-4&keywords=Grapeseed+oil
I can't find the argan I bought anymore, but it was similar in price and quality to this:
http://www.amazon.com/RejuveNaturals-Virgin-Moroccan-Argan-Oil/dp/B00WJ2G8IA/ref=sr_1_25_s_it?s=hpc&ie=UTF8&qid=1458751679&sr=1-25&keywords=Argan+oil
The castor and grapeseed I bought at whole foods, those same brands. They have a ton of oils. Then I cleanse with cerave foaming:
http://www.ulta.com/ulta/browse/productDetail.jsp?productId=xlsImpprod5140065
And just regular Nivea cream, the kind that comes in a tin. They also have big tubs of it:
http://www.walmart.com/ip/Nivea-Creme-6.8-oz/12514829
Hope this helps! You can buy all of the products at whole foods and target.
Also! I'm not sure if the rest of my routine is something everyone would agree with. It's very barebones, and I know some people prefer incorporating more steps and using other products. I just use those because I haven't been able to find anything else that I like that also doesn't breaks me out.
Do you have a card? Or can get an amazon gift card?

Got some last year. Works great for me and my girlfriend
Yes! Castor Oil has been the best thing I've done to control my psoriasis. I have it on my hands and castor oil is incredibly refreshing when applied. I've tried a few different types and have been most satisfied with this kind: http://www.amazon.com/Heritage-Store-Castor-Oil-Ounce/dp/B000BNRKPY/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1408606164&sr=8-2&keywords=castor+oil
This is gonna sound really weird but buy some glycerin and before you set your foundation/concealer with powder dip your sponge in it and dab it around your face like you would with a face powder and then set it. Glycerin helps lock in makeup like nobodies business! I use this one
https://www.amazon.com/NOW-Vegetable-Glycerine-4-Ounce/dp/B0015C0RIC/ref=sr_1_5_a_it?ie=UTF8&qid=1526022002&sr=8-5&keywords=glycerin&dpID=31aj5X4yB4L&preST=_SY300_QL70_&dpSrc=srch&th=1
How much glycerine are you supposed to use? I've been thinking about getting some for my upcoming meet but can't figure out how much to take. Also, it's just the vegetable glycerine right? I don't see anything about ingesting it.
Edit: Also, congrats on the meet and qualifying for RUM. That's huge!
Wow guys thanks so much for all your replies!
So this would be okay to use? https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/aw/d/B006Y6ZA5E/ref=mp_s_a_1_3?ie=UTF8&qid=1518632172&sr=8-3&pi=AC_SX236_SY340_QL65&keywords=mineral+oil&dpPl=1&dpID=310rAVvVM2L&ref=plSrch
Birth control can affect hair thickness/growth. But so can a number of other things, so if the change is significant I recommend checking in with your doctor.
Castor oil might help you combat it. This one is my favorite. I like to put some in a bowl, heat it up (helps your scalp absorb it), put it all over my scalp first and then get the rest of my hair with it aand throw a cap on for a few hours till I wash it out.
I made my own menthol additive, so I can freeze my face off with any soap or post-shave.
For example, I added a single drop to my brush today after loading Mickey Lee's Ruby's Green, and then lathered directly on my face. It was the perfect cooling sensation.
Then I added two drops into my palm before splashing Stirling's Coniferous Witch Hazel/Aloe on my face. Intense! (but awesome)
This is what I used:
I put some menthol crystals in a ziploc bag and crushed it with a rolling pin until it was a fine dust. I then put it in a small bottle (I used an empty travel-sized hand sanitizer bottle) and added a small amount of coconut oil to dissolve it, but I consider this optional because the menthol resolidified once the glycerin was added (since requires a certain concentration of oil to stay dissolved).
I don't care to use chemicals like Polysorbate 20 to keep the menthol dissolved, so I just shake the bottle before I use it and it works very well. I don't know if the coconut oil adds anything, so I'll probably skip it next time I make a batch.
Cold pressed castor oil. I don't fancy the smell of something like coconut on my skin and clothes and the castor oil works much better than coconut oil. It's a little on the drier side and I mix it with my favorite lotion.
They have other special lotions but I have found that coconut oil works just as well and is way cheaper
https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01EYTJNGY/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_peBSAbTSF9ATQ
https://www.amazon.com/Naturals-Fractionated-Coconut-100-Natural/dp/B01A09JXNK/ref=sr_1_4_a_it?ie=UTF8&qid=1481175164&sr=8-4&keywords=natural+coconut+oil
I'm seeing a lot of similar ones.. What the the terms fractionated and carrier mean when it comes to coconut oil? Also, a lot of natural coconut oil searches are coming up as some sort of cremes and not liquid/oil type?
Check out the Carrier Stick. It's a solid Carrier Oil. It's sold on Amazon or www.carrierstick.com
https://www.amazon.com/Carrier-Stick-Essential-Oils/dp/B01010V840/ref=sr_1_1_a_it?ie=UTF8&qid=1480631656&sr=8-1&keywords=carrier+stick
Is this mineral oil okay for oil cleansing?
Maybe vitamin E oil? I use it for my acne scars sometimes. This is the one I use. http://www.amazon.com/Natural-Vitamin-Beauty-9000IU-Ounces/dp/B00014GBZ8
I've never had trouble with small amounts of jojoba oil mixed with my moisturizer, so I don't think I'm allergic to it, but maybe I should try something different just in case.
The castor oil felt very heavy to me, and not at all drying (I used this brand). How thoroughly are you supposed to rinse off the oil when you're done massaging it? Maybe I left too much on?
I use this castor oil and I've never noticed any kind of scent in it. Ingredients are just "Ultra Pure, Cold Pressed Castor Oil."
Does this work? :)
You can buy 100% glycerine and apply it to damp skin, and then follow up with a moisturizer.
Iāve been using Sky Organics. Sky Organics Castor Oil -Amazon
>https://www.amazon.ca/Jojoba-Oil-Incredible-Moisturizer-Excellent/dp/B071NPTLZT/ref=mp\_s\_a\_1\_3?ie=UTF8&qid=1543974618&sr=8-3&pi=AC\_SX236\_SY340\_FMwebp\_QL65&keywords=Art+naturals+jojoba&dpPl=1&dpID=516WLzfl9wL&ref=plSrch
Do you find that they leak at all?
No problem! My 'recipe' is 90% mineral oil + 10% Polysorbate 20 (can get from ebay) and 3 drops of tea tree oil. Put it in a pump bottle which water can't get into, otherwise you'd also need to add a preservative.
Edit I bought my Polysorbate 20 and Mineral oil from amazon. The tea tree oil is optional.
I'm finally ready to switch to natural solutions to heal my horrific skin. But how should I actually apply these products?
http://i.imgur.com/7zLgE2B.jpg
I did a lot of research and figured out that these products were proven to be a good solutions to naturally heal one's skin. I've tried all the oil products (except Argan) on my face and hands and I haven't had any breakouts as a result but haven't seen much improvement either. Now that I got all these things, I really have no idea on how to use them together in a constructive routine.
If anyone was wondering, the products are (in order):
Argan Oil (Beauty by Earth): http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00I134Y82/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o04_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

Virgin Coconut Oil (Nutiva, they don't make the one I got anymore):
