Ballet. Ballet, ballet, ballet. The cornerstone of classical ballet is turnout (lateral rotation) from the hip; your gluteus max, min, and obdurator muscles (that's butt and inner thighs) are mainly responsible for this kind of movement. There is literally no point in a ballet class when these muscles aren't working, and I can't recommend it any more highly for a butt-workout. Not to mention the added perks of increased flexibility, abs of steel, and generally long, lean muscles and a lot more varied and interesting movement than the repetitive action of running that can do some nasty stuff to your iliac nerve. At the very least a strengthening class geared towards dancers is a great start.

If you'd rather work out at home, the New York City Ballet workout DVD is a personal favorite.

Good luck!

|name|Molly Drake|
|about artist|Mary Lloyd (1916–1993), also known as Molly, was the mother of Nick Drake. In 1934, she met Rodney Drake, and they were married in 1937. Molly gave birth to Nick in 1948. She was an accomplished poet and songwriter. Her poetry is somewhat maudlin but beautiful. Her compositions for piano are marked by the same looping style that characterized her son Nick's guitar work. Her daughter Gabrielle asserts that her mother's work is unquestionably a strong influence on Nick's work. ([more on last.fm](http://www.last.fm/music/Molly Drake))|

I was, of course, being sarcastic.

I'm there with you. I think this is a bad decision that only succeeds in people patting themselves as they take the classical guitar to an ivory tower to fawn over.

It's stupid.

We're not the piano, or violin. Hell, we're not even the Cello. We don't have an immense repetoire written by hugely talented composers. Like I said earlier the classical guitar does not have the repetoire nor the following to be snobby about what they play or talk about.

Don't agree with me? Look at all the important guitarists out there. After recording the "staples" eventually they all went to non-traditional classical guitar music.

Look at LAGQ, they're essentially the perfect example of this. They did about 3 or 4 albums of classical music but then the rest of their stuff is non-traditional like this: http://www.amazon.com/Lagq-Los-Angeles-Guitar-Quartet/dp/B000EGDB9M/ref=sr_1_11?ie=UTF8&qid=1416282276&sr=8-11&keywords=lagq

Christopher Parkening did a few cds of church music

http://www.amazon.com/Sacred-Music-Guitar-Christopher-Parkening/dp/B00000EB0H/ref=sr_1_3?ie=UTF8&qid=1416282359&sr=8-3&keywords=Parkening+Sacred

Barrueco did the beatles:

http://www.amazon.com/Manual-Barrueco-plays-Lennon-McCartney/dp/B000TGXOM6/ref=sr_1_8?ie=UTF8&qid=1416282405&sr=8-8&keywords=Barrueco

Sharon Isbin, chair of the guitar department at Juliard which by rights should be all about the Ivory Tower has several recordings of non-traditional classical music

http://www.amazon.com/Sharon-Isbin-Friends-Guitar-Passions/dp/B005BK95LY/ref=sr_1_fkmr1_3?ie=UTF8&qid=1416282506&sr=8-3-fkmr1&keywords=Sharon+Isbin+duets

Even beloved John Williams would not be up for posting under these rules
http://www.amazon.com/John-Williams-Echoes-London/dp/B0000026EF/ref=sr_1_27?ie=UTF8&qid=1416282831&sr=8-27&keywords=John+williams+guitar

In essence nearly every important classical guitarist would come here and be told to go somewhere else. I guess this reddit knows more about classical guitar than these guys and girls.

I don't think so, but I'd have to break out my CDs. I just checked my iTunes and looks like I never ripped them.

On Amazon the track is listed as "Victory Celebration/End Title" instead of what OP mentioned was on iTunes: "Ewok Celebration and Finale" which is Yub Nub

EDIT: This got me off my ass. I got out my CDs (I haven't opened them up in 15+ years) and yes, "Victory Celebration/End Title" is the smooth jazz replacement for the iconic Yub Nub music that everyone loves. Luckily for me, I also have the “Star Wars Original Trilogy Soundtrack Anthology” set from the early 1990s with the original music.

NYCB Workout I and II are great. There's floor work, stretching, and basic movements. Some jumping.

Former dancer, just started getting into lifting almost a year ago. When I danced, I used NYCB Workout I to get maintain strength and flexibility while I was getting through some injuries. I didn't have II at the time but I've done it and I like it better.

u/DiosAsesino · 1 pointr/atheism

The way I read it was that they can listen to music but just in a way that the customers cant hear it. So dont stress. When you write your follow-up, make sure you tell them to buy the 'best of' album for elevators.

Yes, Squirrel Thing Recordings put out an entire album of Molly's songs recorded in the 50's. They stand on their own as great songs and also provide a very keen insight into how much Nick was influenced by his mother's music.

u/liberdade · 2 pointsr/funny

This is actually pretty awesome.

u/GoatTnder · 6 pointsr/classicalmusic

Absolutely! Spirited Away, Porco Rosso, etc. are great. But Princess Mononoke is just EPIC by comparison. That said, I still am kinda iffy on film-scores-are-classical-music front.

If anyone is looking for recordings, there is the standard soundtrack and a symphonic suite. Go for the symphonic suite.

Amazon!

u/gobananamonkey · 3 pointsr/soundtracks

Forgot how great this soundtrack is. It's seven bucks on Amazon and you get a free MP3 copy. No brainer. Or, you can pick up the cassette for ten.

u/gtalley10 · 1 pointr/movies

A comment in one of those links mentioned John Williams Greatest Hits. I must now get that.

u/JMR9000 · 1 pointr/todayilearned

You can actually buy the soundtrack. It is interesting to hear if you are a big fan of Kubrick and the movie.

u/evilanimator1138 · 1 pointr/JurassicPark

It looks like you can snag it from Amazon.

https://www.amazon.com/Jurassic-Park-Various/dp/B000002OOZ/ref=tmm_acs_swatch_0?_encoding=UTF8&qid=1521818302&sr=8-1

I plan on collecting vinyl soon. I was born in 1982 and am proud to say that my first music listening device was a Fisher Price turntable. Then I moved on to a JVC turntable. I definitely miss the sound. Once I'm able, I need to pick up a new turntable. Which one do you use/recommend?

Unfortunately, I missed out on the La La Land release, but I did see listings for it on Amazon. I'm going to have to bump that one up on my priorities list.

u/[deleted] · 1 pointr/beatles

After scouring the internet for at least three, maybe even as many as four seconds, I luckily came across this rare find on Amazon.com.

Is this what you're looking for?

u/fortebass1 · 3 pointsr/Trombone

According to the wiki (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Quincy_Jones_Plays_Hip_Hits) it looks like they had many people on this album.

Billy Byers, Jimmy Cleveland, Kai Winding, Melba Liston, Paul Faulise, Quentin "Butter" Jackson, Santo Russo, Thomas Mitchell - trombone

Also, if you go to https://www.amazon.com/Quincy-Jones-Plays-Hip-Hits/dp/B008EDCGRK, the second picture is an image of the back of album sleeve which gives more information about the album and who was playing on it.

True. Kubrick was often guilty of growing so attached to the temp track score that he refused to change.

Alex North composed much of the score before Kubrick cancelled on him. There's also a modern recording by Jerry Goldmith Alex North's 2001: World Premiere Recording, which is quite striking.
