If you have a little handyman skills and dont mind turning off the power, they have lights with built in motion sensor that probably offer more light

Amazon is a really good source for this stuff because its all imports from china and they end up on Amazon because its simple. Just find one with a good review and give it a shot

8FT long T8 bulbs are available from websites like 1000bulbs but are quite expensive.

A good alternative are linkable "Shop Lights" that incorporate LEDs inside a metal housing with some sort of lens. The good thing about these fixtures is that they are plug and play and typically easy to install. The downside is that you can't simply replace the led inside if it malfunctions, usually you will have to buy a new unit to replace the one that goes bad. Although it can happen usually these fixtures are tested and work pretty well for 5+ years with no troubles.

Maybe you can consider LED light fixtures, Save 87% on your energy bill by replacing 150W with 24W LED. And LED disks that look pretty much just like recessed but they are surface mounted, so the installation work would be minimal.

And there's a couple more competitively priced units on that website also. They also sell ballasts which might be nice to combine with these since they don't come with HO ballasts but it would be relatively easy to swap out and make sure all the connections are stable.

I bought two of these for a 500 SF basement split between a home gym, workshop, and storage and they are as bright as the sun. Just replace with your old light fixture. Bonus feature is that they are able to be daisy chained if you want more lights than you have wired hookups for.

Best sellers rank? If you are scanning with the amazon seller app(you should be) it will tell you the rank at the top. For home improvement, i find a rank under 50,000 will sell relatively fast, between 50k and 100k will still sell, but slower. If they are ranked 20K, that's money in the bank.

Is amazon a seller? If they are, you still may be able to undercut them, and get your sales, but i wouldn't go too deep on something amazon has their fingers in.

Is a low ranked item (fast seller) but amazon is a seller. You can still probably sell some, but you'll be battling a giant robot the whole time. but if you got that item for 5$, you could undercut amazon by as much as 10$ and still make decent money, so i'd go for it.

Edit: bonus from me to any light fixture where you can change the bulb without taking the whole thing apart. Not as much of a big deal with leds but still something I appreciate!

I would not LED strip, its clumsy, lots of parts, and so on

Suggestions:

1. I would repair the wire connection and use a candelabra LED bulb [I think candelabra is the right socket shape?], which will put far less strain on the weak splices than the old light did because LED uses far less amps. Thats the easy option, use the brightest bulb you can find
   
2. Adapt to a normal socket size [you lose space in the glass cover because of the adaption] Use 100w LED bulb
   
3. LED light engine retrofit
   
4. Replace the socket with a Type A normal socket size, which opens a vast number of LED light bulbs to you, like this very bright LED bulb [you have to check how long these special bulbs are, minus screw base, plus the socket depth etc]

Thank you for the recommendation! This was one I had stumbled across, but wasn't sure if it was worth the price. Is there a discernible/significant difference between this product and, say, an LED shop light like this? Also, despite not having a case, is it essentially a plug-n-play product, or is there more I need to do to it? (It just looks so... delicate without a case)

Super easy to do. I got mine off amazon for less than$20 each. When you remove the screws the light will come down. You will have white, black and ground wires connected with screw caps. Take them off and remove the light. Replace with the new light.

Looks like a decent solution, though it will still hang down some with that standoff they have on the back.

Take a look at the second image and you can see the flat LEDs. Then look at the ring around the center of your light. They're flat LEDs

I believe that is an all-in-one LED light, meaning you’d have to replace the whole fixture to have a different design.
