Reddit mentions: The best club & night out

I don't know if this counts as "warm fuzzies", but I'll share my happiest memory. I have had issues with depression like forever, but one good thing is that when I'm truly happy, it really stands out. I'll be fully aware for those few minutes or whatever that I'm super happy, and it's nice. But I digress...

We were playing Super Smash Bros one day on the Wii. It was myself, my husband, and our roommate. We had just recently gotten the Wii, I think, so this must have been this past December or January. The three of us had been working our asses off to unlock more characters and battle stages. And that afternoon, my husband had unlocked Sonic.

This particular battle was my first time playing Sonic. I'm not very good at the game, but he's a great character for amateurs. I was just running around punching people, it was great. But then it got even better--I got the Smash Ball (side note: I love that I can Google "super smash bros glowing ball that lets you do special moves" and it can tell me what I mean).

I had only gotten the ball a couple times before with other characters. That's what happens when you only play with people who are better than you. But I had Sonic, I was actually not sucking horribly, and I had the Smash Ball.

If you've played SSB with Sonic before, I think you know what's coming next. I was literally zooming around the screen. It just makes Sonic kind of fly, and you're a ball of energy, literally, just smashing into everything you hit. And it was one of the small stages that doesn't move around, so I was hitting EVERYONE.

I just remember giggling my freaking ass off. It was honestly the happiest I had been in a long time, and it's one of the most clear memories of being unbearably happy. I was kind of winning at the game (although in a cheap way), it was super amusing, and I was having fun with friends while doing it.

Definitely a Chinese site with an iffy track record. They're apparently using some kind of anonymizing service to pretend they're based in the US, which is already pretty creepy. Looks like they've also changed their name a few times. I don't know how reliable those sources are, but I definitely get a weird vibe from the site. I don't think the pictures are stolen, since they're styled consistently and have the same models in all of them. But it's definitely the kind of place where I would be dubious that I would actually receive what was pictured—if I ever even got it.

I don't know if you're looking for long or short, but I think something with a lace top and sleeves would be perfect for you! Nordstrom has some promising options, such as one, two, and three. I know the sleeves are a liiiiittle short on this one, but how pretty is this?! This dress from Asos has a lot going on, but could be super cute. You could also try separates! A tulle skirt with some kind of silk or lace top could be gorgeous. This Asos dress comes in short AND long options. This one is a more pastel option. (Imagine that top with the tulle skirt if you need long, actually! Is it crazy to wear a long skirt over that short skirt? Or just replace it altogether?) This one and this one look a little red in the picture, but the color is is called "plum" and they came up when I searched purple, so I'm guessing it looks different IRL. Same with this. This one also claims to be purple, although I'm dubious. But this one definitely is! This is totally out there, but if you've got an adventurous bride, maybe?

There's also a TON of stuff available on Amazon with Prime shipping, so even if it's weird Chinese crap, you're a little more protected! For instance, I saw a couple promising Adrianna Papell dresses (one, two) there that I didn't see at any department store. Examples of weird no-name dresses: one, two, three, four, five.

I have a lot of sympathy for your struggle—there are some matronly-ass dresses within your requirements out there!

I tend to like clothing that is a bit more on the simple or plain side, because then it makes it really fun to accessorize or mix & match pieces, so a lot of my choices reflect that.

doc martens are the perfect edgy shoe you can wear all year round! The dark glossy cherry red color is super pretty too.

These pants are really cute and are a super lightweight material which makes them nice to wear in the spring/early summer/early fall. There are also similar ones in a plaid print that I looooove.

It may not meet the formality level for you, but I love this Eliacher dress for weddings. I live in a pretty casual area of the US, but I wore this dress in dark green to a film premier in NYC and it was perfect. The fabric is heavy and has a little bit of stretch, the photos in the reviews are a good gauge of how it'll fit your body type. If you aren't comfortable with the neckline, the straps are adjustable, and the style looks great with a cropped jacket.

BHLD has a great variety of grey dresses, so many I couldn't post them all. They have sparkles, sleek satin, brocade, and dark grey to name a few. They also have beautiful dresses which aren't grey but are still non traditional colors.

I did a quick search on Amazon of "grey gown" and came up with a few good options. Make sure they are fufiled by Amazon and have good reviews and lots of pictures. This one is beautiful and so is this one.

I'd get a plain black full dress like this or this or this and add a satin lilac ribbon to the waist. you can also trim the skirt if you can find a full one but it's not quite short enough. also,
it looks like it might even be a layered thing, like the nightgown or dress might be strapless and those are brastraps you see? I'd put a pretty lacy black bra under whatever dress you pick. good luck!

I have a muslim friend, so I completely understand where you're coming from. Honestly, with a little bit of research you should find plenty of dresses! I found around 30 without any problem. Some may work better than others, and it really depends on what you are comfortable to spend and how modest the dress needs to be in terms of back, cleavage and shoulders. Here are my suggestions:

BHLDN's Nova dress might work. It's just available in three colors (ivory, blush, iceblue) though; and your friend might have to alter the neckline a bit (it could be too much cleavage?)?

This dress from RenzRags on Etsy has long sleeves, but they are just lace so pretty much see-through (which might work for some people, but not others). As RenzRags offers customizations, you could probably ask if they could change the material of the sleeves/add fabric if your bridesmaids want that? If you have a winter wedding this velvet dress could work, too. [note: wedditors stated that a lot of dresses needed alterations, even a custom size was ordered]

The Nordstrom cocktail dress reminds me of this dress I recently bought off Amazon! It is a spaghetti strap dress, so strapless bras needed, and it's sort of tea length on me (5'5") and hits just below the knee, which is a length I love but some people may be less fond of, but I really liked it. They also have free returns in case someone needs a different size. And it comes in many different colors.

I think the suggestion of using fabric to create the flowy look was great advice. If sewing a full costume isn't in the cards you could start with a really simple dress. Drape the fabric over/around how you like, then sew or maybe pin it into place.

We're going to a 90's themed party as Zack and Kelly from Saved By the Bell. I'm wearing a red top with The Max logo and an inexpensive short black skirt with white tennis shoes. I had to cut/hem the top and I might do the same for the skirt, it's still a super easy costume though. I have long brown hair so I don't need a wig but I think styling it to look like Kelly's will be the biggest challenge. My husband is wearing a 90's style t-shirt, jeans, tennis shoes, and black sunglasses. He's going to carry a big inflatable cell phone too.
