Things you need to know about your husky:

• They are extremely intelligent, but not necessarily obedient. They are independent in nature, and can often be motivated by treats--unless the alternative is something they desire more.
  
• They are escape artists. If left to their own devices outside, they will dig, climb, squeeze, and then they will run. And run, and run--it's ingrained in their nature, so this will be almost impossible to correct. You can prevent this by keeping them entertained, which will also keep them from being destructive (boredom motivates them to destroy and explore). Also, never let them outside of a fenced in area without a leash. It's possible to train them to come when you call most of the time, but should they see a squirrel, cat, deer, anything they want to chase, their training goes out the window. Don't let them outside within fenced in areas without supervision.
  
• They are high-maintenance dogs and need a lot of exercise. Right now, walks and games of tug-of-war will suffice. When he gets older (<1 year), runs. If you're out of shape, get a bike, and ride together using the walkydog leash. My husky -loves- to swim. We swim and kayak together every weekend during the summer. Get creative with your exercise--hike, swim, try different training courses--they love the mental exercise and breaking out of routine!

  Your puppy is disgustingly adorable. Seriously one of the cutest little holy terrors I've ever seen (and I say this fondly, because my adorable husky was a monster as a puppy). I hope you form a bond as strong as mine and Keno's, and that you enrich each other's lives!

There are plenty of spots in Lancaster County Central Park along the Conestoga River or Mill Creek where the water is calm enough and deep enough for your dog to swim. Whenever I am visiting family in Lancaster, I take my dog for a nice walk or hike through the park and let him stop and swim when we find a good spot. There are also plenty of spots where you can wade in and the water gradually gets deeper if he's just learning.

Just find a parking spot and start walking...it's a great park. Enjoy it.

Also, I highly recommend you get a doggy life vest, just in case. I have a lab, and we never take him swimming without it even though he's a strong swimmer. It's better to be safe than sorry. This is the one our dog uses. We've had it for years and it's really high quality.

It's pretty good quality and the medium is the perfect size for our 8 month old and has adjustable staps for him to grow into. I also love the handles. I can pull him onto our canoe/boat very easily and it looks comfy.

How about a Hurtta life jacket? A bit pricey but may be worth it by the sound of it. There's also one by Ruffwear but the sizing goes by measurement and not weight, so not sure if it would fit your big guy. I have one for my dog and it makes a big difference in how well she stays upright in the water.
If neither of those work, you could try a Help 'Em Up Harness that would allow you to support him in the water. Bonus of being able to use it to help him up in other contexts too, especially if you're noticing leg weakness.

I don't think they make my exact one any more (but have one very similar), but it's from a company called ruffware I think this is the updated version

My dog Bella is a miniature Aussie so I got her a small (based on their sizing).

But the reason I got this one over other brands is it has floatation material under her chest/belly where many life jackets for dogs only have floatation on the sides and on the back.

It took some coaching her, going out in the water with her myself, and lots of treats but once she got the hang of it she loved it. It's nice having the handle because you can grab onto it and pick her up if need be.

There are a ton of options though, but I'd highly recommend getting yourself one if she likes the water but won't go out.

I’m not personally a dog owner but have seen they sell life vests fir dogs on Amazon, I would also search locally in your area an instructor or dog trainer and ask some questions/advice.

So I can take Roxy in the pool to swim because that's one of our favorite things to do! She's not as strong as she was before she had parvo but she wants to get in the pool so bad to swim. I'd feel better with her wearing one of these!

Happy first day of summer!

We got our 90lb girl this life jacket size X-Large.

It's a little pricier than some others on the market, but the quality is great. She has much more confidence in the water now with the jacket on.

The ruffwear life jacket is amazing! Bit more expensive, but you get what you pay for -it's sturdy and gives great support in the water.

It's actually a life vest. I wasn't sure if either of the dogs could swim (and Henry is pretty much like a lead weight!) The vest is very secure, though, and you can definitely pick the dogs up with the handle.

It's really hot where we live right now, so we always walk at night during the summers. We own one of these for each of our dogs, and they wear harnesses with reflective bands on them. The batteries are really easy to replace and last a really long time, and although it's small, people do see them even on our long-haired dogs. In addition, my husband and I each wear a USB-chargeable LED belt like one of these. I imagine we're pretty visible between all of that - drivers stop all the time to thank us for being so visible and ask where we got our stuff.

I have two pit mixes. One is 68 pounds and the other is 75 pounds.

Bought each of them a life jacket from Amazon. It's easy to put on and they both liked them. I think they thought it was a harness. It worked really well for them. I bought size Large for both of them.

I used the Ruffwear K9 Float Coat with my husky mutt. It was pricey, but leagues beyond the first two we tried out. Highly recommend it.

This should be what you're looking for. You can put leash wraps over the straps or sew on some Velcro so you can attach Velcro patches to it. Probably won't be able to find one with service dog on it, so gotta get creative!

Edit: be sure to bring dog shoes too. You may have to evacuate onto the runway or navigate through shrapnel. It could also prevent the possibility of your dog's nails puncturing the life raft. I'd also see if you can find flight attendant training videos so you can figure out a plan for getting your dog down the inflatable slides without getting hurt.

This life vest for my dog would help save me a lot of trouble for when we go kayaking!

He doesn't like being in the water but enjoys being with me and this would ease my mind if he fell in and started freaking out (as he usually does when he hits water)

Unfortunately it's a useless product and I'd advise everybody to steer clear from these comical "safety" products.

I got it at petco a few years back. You can find them on Amazon as well. Usually run around $15 - $20.
