I mostly shoot landscapes and astro with my Samyang 12mm F2. It is a manual lens which will help you understand and learn how different settings work in camera. Make sure you turn on focus magnifier (link below talks about it) so you can focus on smaller points to ensure you have the correct distance. Anything over ~2 meters though will be focused at infinity.

For astro the kit lens might work but no where close to the 12mm samyang. You will need a stable tripod for long exposure and I recommend a red light intensifier filter to take out artificial light bleed. I use a Hoya (linked below) and have gotten good shots (all night shots, the lightning, and the waterfall on my account were all with this lens if you want examples).

FYI samyang/rokinon/bower are the same company just sold under different names in different regions

I think it's performing fine. I actually have the A119S (so I'm not sure if there's a technological difference at play here) and I think it has trouble capturing license plates clearly while in motion. When I'm stopped, it captures the plates just fine.

I bought VIOFO's CPL filter and that helps a bit with the glare/sun as well.

I have a 64 GB card and that can record about a week's worth of footage (~1 hour total commute daily @ 1080p resolution). Do you have your motion sensor setting on, and thus recording when you're not in the car?

What I didn't realise at the time was that the genuine Cokin P-Series holder and adaptor rings weren't all that expensive. Even their filter sets are pretty cheap to be honest.

u/adamsw216 · 5 pointsr/pics

Wonderfully done. Most likely a utilization of a cokin star filter.

u/SlipandDied · 2 pointsr/analog

This looks exactly like a five image cokin filter like this one.

I have a version of that filter and it gives the center image that same circular shape while the rest is cut. My only gripe when using it is that only the center image is sharp. The filter is plastic so they rest is really soft.

u/footyDude · 4 pointsr/answers

Basically you put a filter on a Starburst filter on the front of the lens to achieve the effect.

People probably got a bit tired of it, but given how popular lens flare has become it's probably only a matter of time before it has a comeback.

Also, just because it's one of my favourite uses of the thing you're talking about - here's the effect used in Seinfeld to show off a shiny new Cadillac (skip to 10:10 for the bit I mean).

What were the settings for the image you took? I'm not 100% sure if this is right, but I think those usually occur with higher F stops. I would try something like a 30 second exposure of a light stopped at around F/15 or higher (maybe all the way up) with ISO adjusted accordingly and see if that changes what is occurring. If it doesn't do it, it might just not occur with your lens, but you could buy some Point Star Filters and force it to happen in a more pronounced way.

u/Morinaka · 1 pointr/photography

It does block half the frame, it's a double exposure technique. I have a filter that Cokin makes that does this, works pretty well.

u/MikeRollerson · 2 pointsr/Polaroid

Do you have any examples of shots?

There are some color filters that snap onto the front to tint the entire image, but I'm not sure if that's what you're looking for?

Sucks, because that means you missed out on the sale pricing.
with GPS, without GPS,
CPL filter (to reduce reflections etc)
