Sounds like fun! I'll have to do this later

1.) Something that is grey: Pelican Gray Nail Polish. (on private WL)

2.) Something reminiscent of rain: Shower Curtain is a barrier between the bathroom tiles and cascading, rain-like, waterfall that flows from the showerhead. (on dream WL)

3.) Something food related that is unusual: Candy Mold. Chocolate frogs, anyone? (on under $5 WL)

4.) Something on your list that is for someone other than yourself. Tell me who it's for and why. (Yes, pets count!): Ice Cream Maker. No ice cream for me because I started keto last week. My friends and family would benefit from this when I make them some delicious ice cream. (on dream WL)

5.) A book I should read! I am an avid reader, so take your best shot and tell me why I need to read it!: The Knife of Never Letting Go. It's book one of the Chaos Walking trilogy, which has rave reviews. Apparently it's a dark, dystopian book full of suspense. (on high priority WL)

6.) An item that is less than a dollar, including shipping... that is not jewelry, nail polish, and or hair related!: Laser Finger Beams (not on WL)

7.) Something related to cats. I love cats! (keep this SFW, you know who you are...): Westside Warrior Nail Polish. Lions, which are really big cats, are warriors of the jungle. (on under $5 WL)

8.) Something that is not useful, but so beautiful you must have it: Origami Star Paper. I like folding these, but once I make them into stars, I literally have nothing to do with them. There's jars of them all across my house and all I can do is look at them (on under $5 WL)

9.) A movie everyone should watch at least once in their life. Why?: Song from Iron Man 3 Soundtrack. Everyone should see it because Iron Man + Tony Stark + RDJ = <3 (on digital WL)

10.) Something that would be useful when the zombies attack. Explain.: Spin-the-shot. If zombies attack, I would need to be drunk, so this would come in handy for some last minute fun before I turn into a brain eating zombie. Let's face it, I'm not surviving a zombie attack... (on $5-$10 WL)

11.) Something that would have a profound impact on your life and help you to achieve your current goals: Coconut Oil. Everyone on the keto subreddit raves about this stuff. Being a newbie to this lifestyle, I feel that if so many people had great results using this oil, that it would help with my goals. (on $11-$25 WL)

12.) One of those pesky Add-On items: Anti-stress face mask (not surprisingly, found on my add-on WL)

13.) The most expensive thing on your list. Your dream item. Why?: Globe Bar. I would feel like a super cool James Bond-esque spy who would have a secret room hidden behind a bookshelf. Plus I love alcohol and globes. (on dream WL)

14.) Something bigger than a bread box: Desk Easel. (on $11-25 WL)

15.) Something smaller than a golf ball: Earrings. (on private WL)

16.) Something that smells wonderful: Pink Punch Baby Lips (on add-ons WL)

17.) A (SFW) toy: Kindle. I would consider this a techie toy. (on dream WL)

18.) Something that would be helpful for going back to school: Fun Colored Pens. (on add-on WL)

19.) Something related to your current obsession, whatever that may be: Paints. My current obsession is painting! (on $11-25 WL)

20.) Something that is just so amazing and awe-inspiring that I simply must see it. Explain why it is so grand: Mug. I love love love this literature mug. I not only love the varying typography all over it, but I think that there are some really striking first lines of literature. (on $11-25 WL)

BONUS

1.) Real name: PM sent

2.) Made in Oregon: Handwarmer Mug

A warming story, we adopted our daughter a year ago. She's the best!

They may have baby stuff but the needs of a 1 year old are different than a newborn. I only mention that if they have mostly infant gear then perhaps there are some 1 year old appropriate items you can offer.

This is around the time you get children become more mobile. If their child is not walking yet, she may benefit from "walker" toys that help her learn. Thing you push around to gain strength and practice.

Our one year old LOVES this Fisher Price toy chair that sings when you sit in it. Somebody gave it as a gift and when we saw it we didn't really think she would be that interested. Of course every child is different.

Let me find a link.

Fisher-Price Laugh & Learn Smart Stages Chair https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00J49UU0I/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_nIn2AbMTXB6RH

Also devices to child proof the house would be put to good use. Plugs for sockets, gates, things to soften corners, latches for cabinets, etc.

Do they have a registry for gifts? If they put thought into the exact things they need or want (there are so many brands of everything), you cannot go wrong with anything on the list. Even the stuff that seems less exciting, they will need and appreciate.

You can also offer to help them when they are adjusting to their new life. Go over and mow the lawn or wash dishes, stuff they will neglect until they find a new ballance in their life. Order them a spontaneous pizza. Cook foods that reheat easily, that sort of thing.

Preschool teacher here!

Expensive STEM stuff -- I've worked with all of them. If I had to get one, I'd probably do Osmo.

Bee bots

Dot and Dash

Cubetto

Osmo

---------

Other Manipulatives and Toys:

Reptangles - I found these at Savers and my students are super in to them right now.

Snap Circuits

Ikea Cars (not really stem but fun and high quality)

Mobilos -- can create cars but also so many other things

Marble runs of any style

"Pattern Play" Blocks -- We have these but I don't have the instructions, but kids still end up making fun designs out of them!

BIG Waffle Blocks

Architectural blocks sets -- for example

------

I have a major soft spot for board games (and related) at this age. Here are a few I love.

Animal Upon Animal

The Little Orchard

Count Your Chickens

Snug as a Bug in a Rug

Snail's Pace Race

Rivers, Roads, and Rails

-----

Ultimately, though, your focus should be on having fun! Your 3 year old does not need to be reading and writing or doing basic math. He should be learning to play cooperatively, self regulate, and be independent. I would focus on language skills and his ability to communicate effectively and understand directions. I teach Pre-K (currently 5 year olds about to go into Kindergarten) and I do not care at all whether they can write their names or do simple math.

u/emeraldeyes · 2 pointsr/Parenting

For the 4 month old, toys that build sensory awareness are really good. Things like balls with different textures, different sizes, etc. There is a seahorse that Fisher Price makes that plays music that both my kids loved at that age. They make blue and pink.

For the 1 year olds, I got LeapFrog's Scout/Violet for each of my children on their first birthdays. They were hits with both of them (in fact my 4 year old still plays with her Violet every now and then). Scout is the boy version, Violet is the girl version. They can be personalized with the child's name and it is incorporated into songs that are played and little activities. It's very cool.

For the 20 month old, you could get this Twilight Turtle Constellation Night Light. Each of my children have one (4 yrs and 17 months) and it's a must have at bedtime for each of them. My daughter was so impressed by it, she named hers "wow" and that name has stuck (she's the 4 yo). You could also get the LeapFrog My First Leaptop. Again, both my kids love this (although we only have one and it's my daughter's, my son steals it frequently to play with himself).

Also, I did those recordable books from Hallmark as gifts when my daughter was a year old and she loves them very much. You could do one for your son. They are pretty cool.

Hope this helps!

Hey nicely done Caleb! I’m sure as a gamer parent youre already aware of some of the awesome speech games/activities out there, so I don’t wanna overstep my bounds here! However, if he responds to matching games I’d suggest checking out some of the Super Duper Inc./ Webber Illustrated sets of cards! I’d start with the “Minimal Pairs” deck because they’re perfect for some of his phonological speech errors.

Here’s an amazon link to a $20 deck: Webber Illustrated Phonology "Fronting" Minimal Pair Card Deck - Super Duper Educational Learning Toy for Kids https://www.amazon.com/dp/1586503928/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_4W5YAbYTQSCGJ

Great video!

u/[deleted] · 1 pointr/Random_Acts_Of_Amazon

How beautiful!

My son just turned one on May 7th. Here are his favorite things:

Laugh and Learn Remote

Scout - Leapfrog My Pal - they make a girl version named Violet, too!

My Talking Lap Pup - and there's a Violet version.

I love the My Pal the best, because you plug it into the computer and load different songs and "likes". The puppy learns the child's name that way, and you can tell it how to pronounce the name, too. Then you can pick colors, animals and foods for favorites, which the puppy will sing to the child. It's so awesome, and my son loves his pal Scout.

u/Schwartz_the_Younger · 1 pointr/boardgames

Your welcome! Yeah this isn’t a game specifically for help with speech development. It’s just the game Caleb wanted to show off.

Further up in the comments u/RansomMan suggested a game that may be useful.

Honestly I wish I could say I'm asking for something for me. But nothing would make me happier than to see my kids face light up. My daughter would definitely love this. Does that still count? Kind of hard to think about something for myself when my kids desever the world and beyond.

HAZ CHEEZBURGER lol.

$.98 free shipping! these would be perfect for my son and daughter for summer fun! we ran around outside at 11 at night with glow sticks. lol. first day of summer entitles them to stay up late. :)

u/nmmb · 2 pointsr/Parenting

Both my kids loved a play table like [this] (https://smile.amazon.com/Fisher-Price-Laugh-Learn-Around-Learning/dp/B01ASVCTIG/ref=sr_1_7?s=toys-and-games&ie=UTF8&qid=1479498352&sr=1-7&keywords=fisher+price+door) around age 1. They still played with them at 2.

I would also recommend books. You can write a nice massage on the inside cover. It is a nice keepsake.

She has done coding with Scratch, Microbit, and Minecraft. She has made a balloon and other pictures through coding as well. She has created a Minecraft rollercoaster type park on her desktop while using her laptop side by side to get on the instructional videos from youtube, so she's good about learning stuff online by herself.

She has a one on one tech teacher who gives her three hour lessons once a week. She knows how to put together a basic kiddie computer, which means she's already better than I am tech wise. lol. I think she has a good intro to tech so far.

Her main interest is chemistry though. She wants to blow stuff up but I don't think she's ready for that yet. But tech is probably a close second as she spends all of her free time in front of the computer. Unlike most parents, I let her have unlimited internet access. Her spoken english is of an 11 yo even tho she's only 7.

Is it possible to combine chemistry with tech?

As far as math, she has already mastered addition, subtraction, and multiplication (3 digits times 3 digits). Her has done division, fractions, and the number line. I'm probably going to teach complex division and fractions during Christmas break. Not bad for a kid who started grade 2 a couple of months ago.

She has already used Dash by manually operating it using her ipad and coding his movement, so she already has a rudimentary intro on what a robot is about. https://www.amazon.com/Wonder-Workshop-Dash-Activated-Programming/dp/B00SKURVKY/ref=sr_1_6?s=toys-and-games&ie=UTF8&qid=1539117016&sr=1-6&keywords=robots+for+kids

If she was your kiddo, what else would you want her to learn? She seems pick things up quickly.

Best toy. My son has had these for awhile and we use them to teach him letters, animals and other items.

Hello! I have these cool laser fingers on my WL and they're $1.45, so you could gift two people on $3!

Thank you for the contest! I hope you have a great weekend too!

u/k_snyder07 · 1 pointr/beyondthebump

Maybe not quite old enough, but when she is this toy is a hit with my LO that gets bored easily. He's a stage 5 clinger, so I can't put him down and let him play by himself, but hopefully soon he'll grow out of it. Its a great toy to suction cup to their highchair tray or one of those floor seats with a tray.

spending bloat is real. It happens all over the place, not just at universities.

I work in Special Needs Education. After a tangent of research, I started looking at Speech devices after seeing a lady taught a dog using them. A single red button for teaching a word can cost $150 or more, and yes schools and businesses WILL pay for them (especially if you have a budget that requires you use specific vendors.

So...I hopped on Amazon......Here is a set of 4 programmable ones for $15

I've done this for other Special Needs products. I've looked through the catalogs, everything is absurdly priced. A set of cheap-ass (and I mean like the shittiest quality you can get) hula-hoops is like well over $300 if I remember correctly....I'm involved in the flow community. I built them much higher quality hula-hoops, that actually work because of weight mechanics, and it cost me under $40 to build them. The kids and staff love them.

u/epi_counts · 11 pointsr/london

I've got a cheap knock-off one from Amazon - it's a bit crap in that it only lasts ~1hr before I need to recharge it, but the video is great (especially for that price) and I figured I'd try a cheap one to see whether I actually use it.

Got my first letter saying a video I recorded got a driver a £100 fine and 2 points on his license last Friday. \o/

u/yosoybillbrasky · 2 pointsr/sandiego

I found a video on YouTube of some guy who did a pseudo teardown on one of these. They aren't too complicated and not 100% sealed with epoxy. Should be easy to fix.

If it can't be fixed you could order another one from Amazon for $15 and just take the electronics out of your son's scout, setup the new scout like the old, and then transplant the new scout's electronics into the old scout, and non-the-wiser. IMO this may be the better way to start with, because then you get all new electronics, buttons and LED and it's still the "same" scout on the outside to your son. Only downside is a possible ethics debate about plush-toy organ-harvesting :P

I'm free most this weekend so PM if you're interested and can meet in PB.

u/riseupagainst · 1 pointr/Random_Acts_Of_Amazon

These cool finger laser beams are only $1.47 and have free shipping! I would like it because I love glowsticks and these are kind of like glowsticks but last longer. It would probably be fun to dance with them, especially with Dancing Lobsters!

Edit: you can find this item on my "Under $5" wishlist.

u/I_cannot_poofread · 1 pointr/Parenting

6 year old girl who needs to be entertained and stimulate learning- Craft supplies. Perler bead set would be good, but can't get ironed in a hospital maybe the similar ones that you use water to fuse them.

Expensive but maybe a robot that you program yourself like Dash

My daughter loves Find it books something similar to this. Along a similar vein she could do Mad Libs but would need help on what a noun, verb, adjective is etc...

Hi,SusanBKahn

Congratulations! I am going to put your sub in our sidebar, hence people that need the information can find the site. I should have already added your sub and I do, apologize for this unpleasant situation. Nevertheless, the dyslexic nerd is geared more toward articles and other (SLD) related content. The grammar and spelling post are awkward; therefore, we can only allow the ones with audio. You have to consider that many of us have serious impairments with our phonological awareness. However, videos with audio are ALWAYS appreciated, even then; I still need a Toobaloo. Thanks for understanding our struggle, and I look forward to your videos.

Do you have a description of your subreddit? This will help me with the sidebar information.

My game resembles an old DOS game and so it's got a fake BIOS bootup. That's a great basket for eggs for sure because it's all just text. Those old BIOS bootups were obtuse anyway -- loading up such-and-such a config file, listing some initialization info, and so on -- so it works as part of the aesthetic too. If you're unfamiliar you should look up a video. Fun times.

Birthdays, friends' games, references to DOS-era viruses, fake cheat codes for the game, fake textures and data for the game ("Loading better graphics..."); it's all there. Some randomly appear, some appear if you hold certain keys/buttons down, some are "blink-and-you'll-miss-it" in a huge wall of text.

The randomized file listing is challenging because I'm adhering to the DOS limitation of eight characters and a three-character file extension, but there's plenty in there too.

Yeah, adding Easter eggs can definitely be cathartic when you're bored or burned out of other stuff. That's why I made it as easy as possible on myself to shove them in.

edit: I also have about a million sets of controller glyphs (graphical prompts for pressing A, B, LT, Start, Dpad left, etc.). Of course it (hopefully) detects the sort of controller you're using, and so I have glyphs for Xbox, DS4, Switch, and so on. That's no big deal because that's just a game feature. But there are also hidden ways to make them look like the Gravis gamepad, the MS Sidewinder, this thing (got really bored at one point), and others.

how long is the drive?

When we travelled with our 10 month old, we found the following helped:

A hanging toy on the seat. This is the one we bought

A remote/phone toy. Our son always loves going right for our phones or the remote control so we bought this

I dont think movies are a good idea, as they'll get bored relatively quickly because they can't really make sense of what is happening.

If your 11 mo can sleep in the car seat, plan on long stretches during naptime or night. Its best to travel while they sleep for everyone.

Our longest drive was 6 hours, and we did a 2 hour drive at naptime, stop to feed, 1-2 hours awake, stop to feed/roam around outside (for like an hour, gotta give him energy burning time), nap time again for the last 2 hours or so.

u/nikcorg · 1 pointr/londoncycling

I got myself a Crosstour 4k for recording my summer bikepacking trip. I also bought a kit of various attachments, mainly for the chest harness but also the monopod proved very useful, and a few spare batteries to keep it going for longer. (A battery will record between 1.5-2 hours.) Considering how cheap the camera is, I've considered getting a second one to mount under the saddle pointing backwards.

Apart from said bikepacking trip, I've tested it in London mounted on my handlebars. Mind you, I only used 720p @ 30 fps on normal quality to save disk space, so the picture is a bit porridgey. (The camera will do 1080p @ 30 fps, or 720p @ 60/30 fps, in fine/normal/low quality.)

For the price, I think it's a decent piece of kit. Interpret that as you wish. One thing to note, is that each time you remove the battery the time and date will reset. If you depend on that being overlayed you'll be setting it a lot, which I would personally find annoying, unless you always charge the battery in the camera. Other settings are persisted, the clock clearly has no backup power to keep it going.

I'm definitely going for the cheapest camera that is still HD quality and waterproof. E.g: https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B073WWSYJK/ref=ox_sc_act_title_1?smid=AGFQ4N3973X2N&psc=1

There's a vent in the chin of the BX-1 that'd be good to keep air flow into. I see people with them mounted on the side and wondered how that worked, so it's adhesive and an arm?

Cameras right on the top look a bit silly. But I'm going for function over fashion.

I hadn't thought of a rear facing camera, is that common or is it seen as over cautious? I guess if someone goes into the back of you that'd be clear from the helmet cam when you look around, no?

u/NadaOmelet · 1 pointr/daddit

We got him a crawl-to-sit-to-stand toy. Specifically, this. In the hopes that he plays with it for like a year. Last year we bought our 1-year-old a VTech train set that he didn't touch for 11 months and now plays with CONSTANTLY. It's a crapshoot.

Hi r/videography. I'm a musician and looking to get a video camera that can record sessions in my bedroom studio for about 6 hours. I've been looking at the Crosstour CT series (I'm on a budget below £50). If I keep this product plugged in and have a 32gb SD card recording at 1080p would that produce clean images? If there are other cheap cameras you think would be better suited to a stationary wide angle pursuit like this please let me know.

Just chiming in as someone who received three Fisher Price Laugh & Learn Puppies and two Leapfrog picnic baskets last year you may also want to consider making a suggested wish list for family and friends on Amazon with ideas of things you could use. Again, not to be gift grabby but in case anyone asks and wants suggestions that way you can maybe avoid multiple of the same popular toys of the season. That way too you can put a variety of things such as clothes, books, diapers, and toys so there are options. Something I am considering for this year!

u/veracite · 2 pointsr/maker

I think I saw this idea on /r/3dprinting. It came out pretty awesome.

The snake toy!!! You put it together by individual pieces, each piece goes in a particular direction and plays a tune, put them together in different patterns and combos, put More pieces together for longer songs. I'm sorry I don't remember the name I just remember my friends toddler going at it. By in a particular direction u mean when the snakes light hits that tune the snake move to the right if it has a right arrow on it, straigh t arrow it goes straight, all while the tune is going edit: its called code-apiller https://www.amazon.com/Fisher-Price-Think-Learn-Code-a-Pillar-Toy/dp/B01ASVD2L4

If it sings "I've got a remote and I'm ready to roll, making things happen 'cause I'm in control," it was made by Fisher Price and was still available at big box stores a couple of years ago.

Could you set up an Amazon Wishlist with it on there? It's $15 on there and I'd be happy to buy you a new one.

A lot of people hang bells from the doorknob and ring them each time they let the dog out; the dogs pick up that "bells=door opens" pretty quickly.

I have cats who played nonstop with the bells when I tried that approach, so instead I got these buttons off of Amazon, mounted them on the wall next to the door at nose height, and taught my dog to push the button with his nose when he needs to go out.

I got this camera three weeks ago, and have used it every day since then. I don't know how it performs in low light, but it is perfect for me.

This activity table has been a big hit from when they could sit (about 6 months) til now (14 months). They still use it fairly frequently. https://www.amazon.com/Fisher-Price-Laugh-Learn-Around-Learning/dp/B01ASVCTIG

Toy cellphones also remain popular, AND spares my cellphone from their wrath: https://www.amazon.com/VTech-Touch-Swipe-Baby-Phone/dp/B00HLAN5GS

IKEA has a pop up play tent and crawl tube (BUSA) that terrified them when we first set them up at 12 months, but now at 14 months they're a favorite and will probably last for quite a while.

I went searching for this for my 3yo and soon to be 2yo. We recently found a VTECH Spin & Learn Color Flashlight . They both love it, but it plays music and games, sometimes to unbearable levels.

I do have 70% tint stickers that I plan to use for a flashlights for them now.

Congratulations man! Get your gaming in now and never let it get in the way of being a dad.

You can game and be a dad, it is possible. A lot more casual than you might be used to but it is possible.

I got these for my niece and nephew and they seem to enjoy it a lot. (Dash). I like mindstorms a lot too, but it might be more advance for 3 and 5 years old.

My daughter might be a bit young at only 7 weeks old, but yeah I will be getting one.

My boys just got this for their birthday with some extra cars and a tractor.
They also play with this together a lot.

u/Maximus5531 · 2 pointsr/succulents

I used this for the magnet base. Pulled the flimsy metal cover off and chopped off the LEDs then routed out a cavity for it to fit into the cherry slab.

I made these sweet Manzanita Tree Centerpieces. I bought Manzanita branches, dried them in the sun, painstakingly peeled each and every tiny branch, painted each tree, then potted each tree, adding sparkly lights, pebbles and moss to the base of each tree. They're quite nice!

Ring size 7.5!

I could really use this Fake TV Remote Baby Toy so my son will stop chewing on our real remote. He figured out how to turn the xbox, ps3, tv and sound system on and off last month and it's been unpleasant ever since.

Congratulations on this sobriety. It's not an easy task, as a few of my siblings suffer from addictions. But anyway, [This] (http://www.amazon.com/Fisher-Price-Laugh-Learn-Click-Remote/dp/B005XVCR48/ref=wl_it_dp_o_pC_nS_nC?ie=UTF8&colid=NEAIO1BF7QCZ&coliid=I1MN9K4066LED) would be awesome cause it would stop my daughter from stealing and losing the real one.

How about a toy flashlight. It will keep baby busy and could come in handy if they need a quick light.

I really need to get a pair of these headphones since the normal hard ones hurt my ears! (on my $15 and under list)

Otherwise...

These are pretty cool and are on my $5 and under wishlist

I have this go pro knock off: https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B073WWSYJK/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_i_9B8JDb9Z5TZHX

Does the trick for the price. Records for about 1hr30min but comes with two batteries.

Sound isn't great I will admit, but I haven't played with it much, I just wanted it to have proof of anything happened!

Can't fault it for the price, and if anything happens, for that price, I'm not bothered!!

u/munkijunk · 5 pointsr/londoncycling

I really feel for you, but I think this is as a good a time as any to remind people to get a camera, use it and report bad drivers. I have two of these, and for £35 I may not be any safer, but if my family ever have to take a case against someone who murders me with their car they'll at least be closer to getting some kind of justice. The more geared up we all are, and the more we are willing to report dangerous behaviour on the roads, the safer all of us will be.
