I'm too lazy to type it out again:

> I've spent somewhere in the neighborhood of $1,500 on chairs (Herman Miller Mirra and Via Swopper) but I prefer my $68 Swiss Ball Pro.
>
> If you decide to go the exercise ball route buy a nice burst proof one. Emphasis on nice. The stuff Walmart sells and the cheaper stuff Amazon sells is garbage. I also recommend a stabilizer ring to keep your ball from rolling away and to keep your ball away from any sharp stuff on the floor. I use one of these:

When I sit I use that. I regularly switch between sitting and standing. When I stand I use http://i.imgur.com/nldh3WF.jpg.

Edit: That's a WorkFit-S HD but Ergotron has plenty of different configurations:

Edit 2: If I was in the market for a standing desk today I wouldn't buy the WorkFit-S HD. It was a fine choice back when I bought it but these days you can get a nice frame for less:

Massage therapist here! If you have those massage balls (the softer ones, kind of like the density of a dodge ball, but smooth) that are about the size of a softball, like these you can start right at your SITS bone on the sore side- NOT your tailbone (that is incredibly easy to break) get in there and stimulate all the muscles that attach to it. Sit directly on top of the ball over the SITS bone and let your body weight sink into the ball. Then, shift the ball diagonally, higher and closer to the center of your sacrum, but still on the side of it. You’ll know if you’re on the right spot or not. Hold there until it feels like nothing- sinking your body weight onto the ball the entire time. Then move the ball up an inch to the next spot. Again, you will know if you’re on it properly because you’ll feel the spot that needs to be released. Keep moving up til you get to the top of the sacrum.

If you get a good physical therapist, they will probably know how to do this manually, but it’s going to cost you the same as a high end massage because a LOT of PT isn’t covered by insurance. I paid $150/hr for my 12 weeks of PT and never got reimbursed.

I’ve shared this before, but don’t know if anyone else has tried it. It works for me: I got a 12lb exercise ball (AmazonBasics Medicine Ball, 12-Pounds https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00R3N712M/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_i_s-7HDbS90GFM9). I roll it clockwise around my abdomen while laying in bed. When I find a sore spot, I rest it there. You can do self-massage, but I always found it hard to apply pressure AND relax at the same time. I’m a pretty big guy—not huge, but “sturdy”, so 12lb was good for me. You may want to adjust which weight you get based on your size. You want it to push with some force, but not so much you have to tense up. I do it for 15-20 min before sleep and after a few days, it does help. Just practice breathing. As you exhale, let the ball rest on the sore bits to work the knots out. If you don’t want to buy a ball, try an empty milk jug filled with water (1 gallon of water = 8lbs). But the rigid exercise ball is perfect for me.

This is my own personal discovery. I’m not a doctor or a PT. I’d be interested to know how it feels/works for you. Shoot me a message if you try it.

I bought one at the insistence of my husband's cousin's wife because she said it was a lifesaver. Glad to know others have had similar experiences. It's inflated and hanging out until I need it! Btw, for anyone concerned about the ball attempting to roll out from under you while you're trying to use it, I got one that has a ring like this: https://www.amazon.com/SoAlpha-Exercise-Resistance-Stability-Supports/dp/B01KKRGAN8/. Also comes with the added bonus of resistance bands for those who are looking to use it to get in shape PP!

A yoga ball works great, and it doesn't hurt if you happen to knock into it.
I use this one and it works great, the slightly oval shape and a seam at the base means it doesn't roll around the room. I just shove into a known corner of the room, and it is easy to find and move without taking off the headset.

I'd like this fitness ball :)

thanks for the contest, Have a great day!

Yes, practise always helps you improve. Technique can always be refined. Plyometrics are good for spped, look for a wall to practise control and passing, these are good for reflexes and aglity, watch videos on skills and dribbling techniques, and look at videos on how to shoot with correct technique. Then start practising, video yourself, and correct it after practising.

For exercising the body, as well as the mind, i like body awareness exercises. You need some equipment (like 2 ball cushions, or four halfround massage balls), a little more expensive are the k9 fitpaws. I just use the equipment for humans, which i got cheap from someone who thought buying exercise equipment without using it would do the trick :).
You can also do some cavaletti training.

There are facebook groups, where you can get a lot of inspiration for free.

doing this now since i'm tired of the packed gym around here with only 1 squat rack....

  • $345 - Power Cage from amazon with good reviews here
  • $248 - 300# olympic set with rubber layer from Sports Authority (in store with coupon)
  • $168 - Adjustible Bench from amazon here
  • $80 - Stall Mat x2 from Tractor Supply here
  • $22 - stability ball for shits here

Total was $863 in my spare bedroom. At $62 per month at my local gym this will be paid off in 14 months.

Although I may be looking for some kind of treadmill / elliptical for the girlfriend, I'm pretty happy with the price. If you put some effort into it you could find better deals on used equipment.
u/Aloof_pooch · 1 pointr/Random_Acts_Of_Amazon

Yeah, I thought you were security guard. I had one of these chairs at my old job and it made me feel like I was doing good stuff. Maybe not an option at your work though.

u/Cwreck92 · 13 pointsr/pcmasterrace

I've had mine for about 2 years now, and have used it every day since. My back is much, much stronger. It develops core strength, and forces you to stay postured.
It attacks and engages the small muscle groups in your back, and core, including obliques. It's great.

u/Vixter90 · 2 pointsr/BabyBumps

I got [this one] (https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00NGP1JWY/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_4dYHxbWMYPH7B) and I absolutely love it! You have to inflate it for 24 hours and then inflate it again to use it, but it's a steal. Now that I've been using it for a while it keeps the air very well since it's stretched out now. Totally worth it, and it comes with a little foot pump but a bike pump sounds much easier.

u/greenlady1 · 1 pointr/running

I think I'm going to take some time to do strengthening exercises, and if it doesn't get better, I'll go back to the doctor. And I'll definitely see about getting a balance disc. You're talking about something like this, right?

u/mikeyuf · 2 pointsr/sysadmin

I actually use one of those excercise balls, like this. It feels a bit more active than lounging in a chair like I used to do.

u/most_of_the_time · 7 pointsr/Parenting

Is it the rhythmic bouncing? He might want to bounce in your arms rather than the swing or seat. You could try an exercise ball like this, it worked wonders for us and while it is still a work out is much easier than the stairs: https://www.amazon.com/Exercise-QUALITY-DynaPro-Direct-available/dp/B00U2LNQV2/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1468383819&sr=8-1&keywords=amazon+exercise+balls

u/justcallmesparky · 12 pointsr/todayilearned

Please look into chair inserts or exercise balls and rubber bands across the chair legs. Each of these allow the student to move without being a huge distraction to the others. Exercise balls like this can be left at the desk without them rolling all over the room. http://www.amazon.com/Abilitations-Integrations-4-Leg-Chair-Inches/dp/B005P3NQDA/ref=sr_1_4?ie=UTF8&qid=1450063490&sr=8-4&keywords=exercise+ball+with+legs

A ball chair like this http://www.amazon.com/Health-Mark-BT20000-Swiss-Chair/dp/B000X1O066 might help, or if you could setup your workstation so you are standing. With everything in life try not to have your body in one position for hours at a time.

u/PhilxBefore · 1 pointr/AskReddit

Replace your office chair at home with one of these exercise balls. It helps keep your posture intact and you will constantly (and subconsciously) be working your core/abs without realizing it.

They are also great to roll around on for balance and exercise if you have bad back/joints.

Plot Twist: OP can palm an exercise ball

u/aztec04 · 1 pointr/ChronicPain

I am not sure if I will be able to perform the yoga pose right away but I can try the roller. I tried using gym ball for pelvic exercises and they helped a lot.
