>1.What do I look out for to know if my routine is working or not, and how long do I give it?

Obligatory add new products one at a time so you can pinpoint any issues to one product. Just look for any changes, positive or negative. Does your skin feel softer, more glowy? Good! Do you notices issues (like acne or dryness) are hanging around for shorter periods of time? Good! Do you have any stinging or prolonged redness from products? Bad! New weird acne? Bad!

Honestly, I don't ever inspect my skin, even when introducing new products. I find that inspecting my skin for any changes will get me too caught up in everything, and I won't be able to see the forest through the trees. I introduce a product, and I keep using it, and usually any benefits or negatives will be very noticeable. I'll wake up and go, "Wow! My skin is really soft!" or a couple days later I'll go "Wow, this is way more acne than usual." And if nothing really happens? Meh. 3/5 stars, off to find a better product! Listen to your skin, but don't interrogate it. Skin is always fluctuating anyway.

I give new products about a week to show me any problems. Sometimes, if it's not clear if a new breakout is from a product or just my face being my face, I'll give it longer - 2 weeks, 3 weeks even. It usually becomes clear through time. If the issues go away within a normal timeframe, I know it's just my face being inconvenient with timing. If they don't, I drop the product and see if that helps.

> 2.Suggestions for moisturizers and sunscreens and also foundations that won't break me out and that will help with (or at least not hurt) wrinkles and acne scars?

Any of the ones on the sidebar. I personally like CeraVe Baby Lotion, 40 Carrots Night Cream, Pond's Creams, and I have my eye on CosRx Honey Ceramide Cream (also sold at Ulta!)

I use Biore Watery Gel, but I've heard EltaMD UV Clear, Coola Mineral Matte Tint, and Canmake Mermaid Skin UV are all good.

Not sure about foundations - I use L'Oreal True Match Lumi with no issues, I know The Ordinary just came out with a foundation line, and I've heard people with sensitive skin / acne prone skin sing praises for Clinique.

Not sure if these products will help all that much for wrinkles or acne scars - I look for concentrated actives to target issues rather than all-in-one products because I'm not entirely convinced that, say, a moisturizer containing retinol would have a high enough concentration of retinol to be effective.

>I really like both and have no idea how to compare or know/tell which is best for my skin.

Sometimes products can really be just about equal in terms of performance, especially with moisturizers. Just use em both interchangeably honestly - as long as your skin feels good and moisturized, and there's no negative reactions, they're doing what they're supposed to do. Over time you might realize one leaves your skin feeling better than the other, but there's no harm in taking a while to discern differences like that.

>Should I do my routine for a few months before adding in other products or should I do this kit once a week on top of everything?

Follow your routine. Skin craves routine. Then you can add in parts of the kit if you like them.

>have this same question regarding a mint julep mask and some bentonite clay powder I have.

Same as above, although I imagine that doing a mask once a week won't stress or confuse your skin too much, so really whatever you want. Personally, I'd like to get familiar with my routine so that it becomes comfortable before I add in new things.

>I guess I just don't when when is enough and when is too much switching it up for my skin to be able to relax?

Skin craves routine. I only introduce one new product at a time, everything else is boring and old and what I've done for a while. This matters less for things like moisturizers, but still matters. Even if I have things in rotation - like three moisturizers that I choose from depending on what's going on with my skin that day - I've still used those products a lot, and am familiar and comfortable with them.

A routine should be gentle and pampering and focused on self-care, but not too exciting imo. I mean, it can still be exciting in a certain sense, but you don't want to try out a million different products at once and stress out your skin.

You want to find your workhorses first - your HG cleaner, your HG moisturizer, your HG sunscreen. The products you come back to time and time again. You want to find them to build your foundation, then worry about all the extras.

Take your time, this isn't a race. Focus on building a relationship with your skin and working with it rather than throwing a lot of products at it and battling it. You're both on the same side here - be gentle and listen to your skin.

Hello!

I've been lurking on this subreddit for a few months, and while it's helped me put together a routine, I feel like there's more I can do to improve my skin!

To start, here are some pictures! https://imgur.com/a/0JLlV

I'm 31 (32 soon!), and I THINK I have normal/dry skin. Sometimes it feels tight or flaky in the morning, before I wash and moisturize. Overall my face is soft, but there's a tiny bit of roughness. I have the occasional breakout (around nose/chin), but it's never more than one or two whiteheads, and they usually go away after a few days.

My main concern is REDNESS, as well as whatever's going on with my forehead.

The pictures are after I've been up for a while, before I wash my face. This is about how my face looks normally, and I'd really like to reduce the blotches and have a more even skintone. My forehead is a little bumpy, with red spots.

Here's my routine!

Every once in a while I'll use the FOMO jelly mask from LUSH.
I also have this diy mask powder from WitchBaby that I haven't tried yet, but I was thinking about mixing it with Aloe.

I used the Mario Badescu Drying Lotion like, once. It didn't really do much for the pimple I had, but it could be because it rubbed off. Maybe I'd have better luck if I slapped a hydrocolloid bandage over it after it dries?

I WAS mixing Acure Seriously Soothing Blue Tansy Night Oil (new formula) with my moisturizer for a couple weeks, and it made my face feel GREAT, but I started getting more breakouts than usual, in spots that I don't normally break out.

I also tried using CosRX AHA 7 Whitehead Power Liquid every other day (alternating with Stridex Red) for about a month, and stopped because I didn't see much difference and I got tired of waiting 20mins to finish my routine.

I've been doing this since early January, and I haven't really seen much improvement. I really like to keep things simple (my PM routine is already on that border of being too much!), so I'd rather replace parts of my routine with things that could work out better, than add to it, unless it's super necessary.

I'm thinking about replacing the Matcha toner (which is kind of meh to me) and the MB spray with some Thayer's witch hazel (cucumber or rose?). I really like the MB spray because it makes it easier to apply moisturizer, but if I can do the same thing with Thayer's (in a spray bottle) then it'd be nice to combine the two steps into one product. And it'd be cheaper!

I'd like to add some sort of oil (rosehip seed? squalane?) that I can just mix with my moisturizer. I liked doing it with the Acure, but something about it broke me out.

I was also considering using Azelaic Acid instead of Stridex. If I did that, my choices would be either TO or Melazepam since I'm in the US.

I was also looking into the possibility of using Curology as a way to just mix all that good stuff into one product.

I'm very lazy.

Anyways, this ended up being REALLY long! I probably should have made this its own post, but I figured I'd try the daily help thread first!

Thanks for any advice!

The Azzaro Chrome aftershave you're using is alcohol-based, and will likely dry your skin. Feel that burn? Yeah, it's nice, but I prefer the soothing and less-astringent Witch Hazel alternative.

Listed in order of recommended products:

  • Nivea for Men Sensitive Post Shave Balm, Active Comfort System, 3.3-Ounce Bottles (Pack of 4) note: witch-hazel based, so good for your face

  • Yes To Carrots Fragrance-Free Intense Hydration Night Cream, 1.7 Fluid Ounce

  • Yes To Carrots Nourishing Exfoliating Cleanser, 3.38-Ounce Boxes (Pack of 2)

  • Musgo Real Lime Glyce Oil (MR GLO) Soap (use for pre-shave beard and face conditioning)

I have not personally used MR GLO but the glycerin in it is great for skin hydration, and I plan on picking some up to add to my pre-shave routine.

Looks like a lot of money, I know that, but I'm just tossing you some options here. I would highly recommend the night cream if you can at all afford it, since my face in particular dries out overnight if I don't apply this stuff. YMMV, but I can definitely vouch for the night cream, which is also available at Target.

My local Target has discontinued the exfoliator, but I get mine on Amazon now. Feels fantastic on dry skin, just massage in with fingers until your skin feels buffed out. Not necessary, since your razor will exfoliate you plenty (and all you really care about are your shaved areas), but I use it on my whole face.

And of course, Nivea Sensitive Post-Shave Balm works amazingly well for an off-the-shelf solution, also found at Target.

PS: A cheap easy way to really clean up before you apply your aftershave balm is to apply straight-up Witch Hazel to your face using Cotton Rounds. Wipe it on generously, fan it to feel a cooling sensation if you want, let it sit for about a minute, then rub in what hasn't dried off. Apply aftershave balm, and enjoy your well-maintained face. Witch hazel and rounds are easily available at your local Target/Wally World/Walgreens.

This was my first time ever buying from PinkSeoul, and I am really impressed with their Mystery Box and the quality and value! I will definitely be buying one of these Mystery Boxes from them again! I think for anyone wanting to try out some new AB items, they send FULL SIZE quality items in this box for about half the cost! Honestly, this was such an amazing deal, I just want to spread the word and show what sorts of items you might get inside the boxes.

Leaders sheet mask - Coconut Gel with Blueberry (~$2.50/$4)

Leaders sheet mask - Collagen Boosting Renewal (~$2.50/$4)

Tony Moly - Banana Hand Milk 45 ml (~$10) - I tried this when I first opened up the box, because it was just so adorable! I smells like Banana! The hand milk/cream is nice too, but my only issue is that it seems to take a lot of it to moisten my hands, and there's not very much in the little squeezable plastic banana. I might get maybe ten uses out of this. It seems like this would be a really cute/cool gift for a young girl or teenager though!

Skin&Lab - Red Cream 50 ml (~$30) - I tried this last night. The first thing I noticed was that the jar is about half full when you open it. I checked reviews on Amazon, and this seems to be normal, and something others noted/complained of. It has a very strong, natural scent of roses, like you are smelling a real rose right under your nose. It is very thick and sticky, and should likely be used as a sleeping mask, which is how I used it. I didn't notice much effect on my skin in the morning, but I have only used it once so far so I will have to see if it offers more effect with more use. The smell is really amazing though if you love roses. / Update: I tried this cream again, and figured out how to work it. You only need a really tiny amount, thin it in your hands, and then pat it on. It worked great when less was used and then it wasn't so sticky feeling.

RiRe - Essential Hydrogel Mask Pack 75ml (~12) - This is a Hydrogel Mask in a spray bottle. I used it after my toners this morning. I love that it is a spray, which makes applying it so easy. So far it seems really nice.

Elizavecca Hell Pore Control Hyaluronic acid Serum 50 ml (~$10) - No scent. I applied to my face after toner this morning, and it is light on the skin without any tackiness. My skin seems to have absorbed it well.

Total value ~67

This is my first time trying everything in this box, and I'm enjoying the experience of trying these all out, and so far I like all of them.

In this case if you don't think it's milia, you should consult a dermatologist for a proper diagnosis - just in case!

To me though, it really does look like milia. Just speculating because I had the exact same thing in the exact same spot recently when I had neglected my skin for a few days. I had also tried a new eye cream (CeraVe eye cream) and I think that may have contributed to the area getting bumpy and clogged.

Now this isn't a for-sure, but it might help. I got a couple tubes of RoC brand retinol moisturizer to see if I could gently exfoliate the area. It definitely did help over a couple of weeks and the bumps are pretty much gone now. The only real side-effect for me was that my skin felt a tad bit sensitive a few days after I stopped using it.

Now I'm using Hada Labo brand moisturizers to keep the area moisturized.

Here's some links if you want to give any of them a shot, though I would suggest getting them from a local drugstore when they're on sale, especially someplace that has a good return policy in case they don't work for you. I got mine at CVS when they had a buy 1 get 1 for 50% sale.

RoC retinol correxion night cream

RoC retinol correxion eye cream

You will definitely need a sunscreen if you decide to try these, or they also make a day cream with SPF:

(the one with SPF in the combo pack) (I haven't tried this one so I can't attest to its effectiveness like the other two)

The moisturizers I'm using that don't clog my incredibly clog-prone skin:

Hada Labo clear "toner" lotion

Hada Labo "milky" lotion

I really like these since they only require about 3 drops each and keep my skin nicely moisturized. I tried the thicker creams from the brand but found they were more suited to super-dry skin. Also they dry to almost-matte and have no added scent.

Again, worth a try, but definitely try to get an appointment with a derm if you can, just to be sure it isn't anything serious.

    > Bend over backwards? Putting a pink background on something and writing "smooth" "for women" isn't bending over backwards.

  60. Go to any general home goods and clothing store (target/encore, walmart,etc.).
  61. Look at the mens tiny clothing department.
  62. look at how the women's clothing department is 3-4 times as large, if not more, the vast majority of the time.
  63. Now do steps 2 and 3 but for cosmetic skin care, WOW, there is lots of extra marketting too.
  64. Look at the igredients list of mens and womens and OMG< they aren't the same!

The domestic goods market heavily caters to women with both selection and easier access to higher quality goods. Among goods that serve the same purpose from the same brand more care goes into the product as a rule.

    > This is obviously not how business works or phrases like organic, or free-range, or the fact that packaging that insinuates healthier ingredients are often more expensive when the evidence proves they are normally exactly the same as cheaper brand or more expensive products. Packaging, marketing and price act as incentives to buy things.

And people still have free will to buy or not buy as they choose. Women are choosing to pay more for these products to cater to them. Do you see anyone forcing them to go out and buy the fancier stuff? I sure as hell don't.

    > Your argument is laced with anti-woman emotive phrases

You are conflating anti-stupidity with anti-women. Anyone can find the facts I just did to reply to you. Many already have. People are stupid if they honestly think an open market that generates tailored products and finds success because their market is willing to pay more is somehow proof of discrimination.

It is sheer idiocy and invalidates a women's own intelligence and agency to say she is discriminated against because the market makes a lot of stuff that she can choose to buy.

    > which completely invalidates your argument because you can't defend your point without it being biased.

And that is the fallacy fallacy, Even if we assume I used a logical fallacy (I am not conceding I did) then just saying that I committed a logical fallacy doesn't invalidate the entirety of the argument.

Yea, it can be a bit overwhelming but I try to treat it all as a fun experiment. I think that if you're dry you probably don't need anything mattifying so that's probably not a great option either. I wonder if that feeling of being too wet comes from your skin not actually absorbing the moisturizer and AHAs can help with that. People generally think that lactic acid is the most gentle so maybe start there?

As for moisturizers I've been using TO's Rose Hip oil and I quite like it but you could try any accessible moisturizer that contains some high-quality oil or buy a pure oil and mix a few drops into your moisturizer. I haven't tried this one but if you like TBS it might be worth trying. But, really there are so many possible products. I've been using this one in the evening and I like it as a really rich night cream.

Very light, natural fragrance, someone once described it as "wet cardboard". Its thicker than the Nivea and works better IMO.

I've had a lot of success with generic brands, all from Dollar Tree! Here are some products I've used and really liked:

  • Dermasil Oil-Free Night Cream - The ones I have are in tubes, I'm not sure if the jars are new packaging or not.
  • Dermasil Dry Skin Treatment - I use this for body lotion and it's great, very moisturizing.
  • Dermasil Moisturizing Cleansing Bar - Very gentle soap-free cleansing bar. It has a nice, creamy lather and isn't drying because it's soap-free.
  • Dollar Tree brand Gentle Skin Cleanser - I couldn't find a product page for this one so I linked to a review instead. This seems to be Dollar Tree's version of Cetaphil's Gentle Skin Cleanser, which I've used and liked. I've been using this one for about a month now and so far, I can't tell a difference at all between this and the Cetaphil one. Except this is $1 for 16 oz. of cleanser.

I realized a while ago that I have to apply my moisture in layers. So yes I do use a ton of moisture products, but my skin has proper hydration and a consistent moisture barrier that no active has ever been able to penetrate.

OP I would stop washing your face unless maybe once at night, and only oil cleansing. Oil cleanses oil. Your face doesn’t need extreme cleansing or other cleansing products.

I would spray with a moisturizing toner (there are a million, choose one that you like) then layer 1-2 layers of a hyaluronic Acid over your face when it’s wet with Toner. I like Korean brands, like this one and this one. Then layer that with a snail mucus which sounds awful but it’s crazy hydrating, like this one. Layer that with a gel, like this. Then a cream like this one and finally a sleeping mask like this one. Bonus points for applying a wet sheet mask over it for 30 minutes.

It seems absolutely extra and I personally wish I could slap on a moisturizer and call it a night but it’s the only way to truly hydrate and nourish the moisture barrier.

I think it's awesome that you came to us :) You get major "cool dude" points from me!

What you're looking for is pretty much the same thing as an anti-aging cream. I'd recommend reading this and coming to your own conclusions.

Here are some products I'd recommend based on my own opinions and what I think you might like:

Not AB, but this cream is extremely moisturizing, albeit a little on the greasy side. Its mainly olive oil, beeswax, and honey.

Bee Friendly Rest and Repair night cream

I also love the Soon Jung Cica Panthenoside Sleeping Pack, mixed with Aquafor at night.

Soon Jung Sleeping Pack

ETA I also love these Snail sheet masks by Etude House. The essence is creamy, and thicker than most.

I keep it very simple. I used to think I had very oily, acne-prone skin. Found out it was actually dehydrated instead. Made the switch from oil-removing products to moisturizing ones and its made a HUGE difference! Here's my routine now:

Am- rinse skin with water and apply [nivea daily lotion for dry and sensitive skin] (http://www.amazon.ca/gp/product/B00BO0A2LC?psc=1&redirect=true&ref_=oh_aui_detailpage_o01_s01) followed by [biore uv perfect face milk spf 50+++] (http://www.amazon.ca/gp/product/B00IHPJKCO?psc=1&redirect=true&ref_=oh_aui_detailpage_o02_s00).

PM- cleanse with [cervae foaming cleanser] (http://www.amazon.ca/CeraVe-Foaming-Facial-Cleanser-Ounce/dp/B003YMJJSK/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1427731224&sr=8-1&keywords=cerave+foaming) (might switch to gentler formula after I'm finished this one), then maybe apply vit-c serum (I use [this ole henricksen one] (http://www.sephora.com/truth-serum-vitamin-c-collagen-booster-P42343?skuId=1403518&icid2=ole_lp_bestsellers_carousel_P42343_image), free sample!) and finish with [nivea aqua effect nourishing night creme] (http://www.amazon.ca/gp/product/B003OSH6FW?psc=1&redirect=true&ref_=oh_aui_detailpage_o01_s00).

EDIT: Another important step I now take is removing my makeup as soon as I get home from work, before I work out. I use [these exfoliating facial wipes] (http://www.walmart.com/ip/Equate-Beauty-Exfoliating-Wet-Cleansing-Towelettes-60ct-Tub/10316847) that give me daily gentle exfoliation and some hydration.

I have dry skin and I use milk cleansers since they're more moisturizing. Here's a list of all of the ones I'm aware of:

u/GimmeTheGunKaren · 2 pointsr/crueltyfree

I like this one- it's good enough for night but i can even get away with it in the morning without making me a greaseball. I don't think it smells great but the scent only lasts for a couple of minutes so it's not a big deal. It's pretty cheap at Whole Foods & Amazon.

It's really great (for me at least)! I got it because it's loaded with niacinamide, and I needed some extra help with my , and I definitely think it has helped! It's also super moisturizing! The past 2 nights I tried using the "light" moisturizer my esthetician recommended at my first peel, and it just really does not cut it. My face has been so flaky since using that.

My boyfriend was also interested in trying my moisturizer, but didn't like the price tag. He ended up getting this one since it has great reviews and is a bit cheaper, and he really likes it!

Using a BHA product should help your SF and make your pores appear smaller. I prefer Betaine Salicylate instead of Salicylic acid because I find it much more gentle. This is my favorite BHA product. I rarely use it now but it's something I can always rely on to decrease the SF on my nose and make my pores appear smaller if need be. It does have some Glycolic acid in it as well and is formulated at the proper PH to be effective. I never hear about this product but it's my holy grail BHA product if I ever need one. Works fantastically. I really should make a review thread for this product because I only ever hear about the Cosrx one which probably isn't even at the right PH. (Though Cosrx is in the process of making a new one)

It's out of stock on Wishtrend right now but it's on Amazon though idk if you're in the US or not. Ebay should have it as well. https://www.amazon.com/23yearsold-Badecasil-Solution-Betaine-Salicylate/dp/B013B33CFC

I just got a new PM moisturizer to try, and then realized it contains retinol! The moisturizer is 40 carrots sleep cream (link). It doesn't say how much retinol is in it, but says it is very gentle. I already use vitamin c (AM) and alternate stridex and azaelic acid at night. Would using a moisturizer with retinol cause any issues with these actives? This page says there shouldn't be an issue, but I still wanted to check with people here.

CETAPHIL!!! You save at checkout on several of these. Cardholders also get 6% back instead of 5%.

Cetaphil Daily Facial Cleanser (32 oz for $19) - hurry on this.

Cetaphil Daily Facial Moisturizer with SPF 15 (pack of 2 - $18.25)

Cetaphil Rich Hydrating Night Cream - $9.23

Whatever you prefer! I've seen people just use one or pick a combo like use this during the day, this to cleanse, and this at night. I'd just start with the lotion or regular cream (not night cream) and see how it does then expand your arsenal from there.

u/ashleyn09 · 1 pointr/AsianBeauty

Looks like the innisfree sold out quickly. I actually signed up for this for $2 the other day. You kind of have to keep an eye out for the ab.
