Top Reddit comments about Flying Discs:

For a more traditional disc that is durable, but flies relatively well compared to Hero Discs, I would go with a [Hyperflite Jawz] (https://www.amazon.com/Hyperflite-Jawz-Disc-4-Inch-Blueberry/dp/B002CM3O6G) disc. They are puncture resistant and can fly a lot further than the soft rubber or foam discs. They are also softer than Hero Discs, which makes them a little safer. They are more expensive than other discs, but I have had mine for over a year without any punctures holes. They are heavier than Hero Discs so they don't float quite as well, but they can carry some distance, especially compared to the Kong flyers.

u/OnExtendedWings · 10 pointsr/dogs

Glad you might start disc dogging! We've been active in the sport for about a decade, and if your dog can get the hang of it, it's tons of fun.

Here's a floppy, non-scary, easy to throw and catch disc you could start with (we used this when our dogs were puppies):
https://www.amazon.com/Floppy-Disc-Soft-Flying-Dogs/dp/B00DFABI8A

You can then progress to something specifically for dogs that's competition-grade but fairly light and easy to catch, like this:
https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0022V73DW/ref=psdc_166432011_t2_B001HL7J9G

Roll it on its edge away from him so he chases it down. Roll it farther and farther so he loves to grab it from behind. Gradually work up to throwing a very low floater (you might have to crouch a bit) that he can catch without jumping, then extend the distance. Then work on making flat, longer throws that are about waist-high; practice having your dog start next to you or behind you so he has to run to catch up and catch it.

A couple of tips...High jumping can be really dangerous until the dog learns how to land on all fours, so practice throwing consistently flat and waist-high. (I swear for every hour we practice with a dog, we practice two hours alone just getting better at our disc handling!) Also, keep the discs away from him except when you play together; discs should be special and not just randomly lying around.

Good luck!

bestdiscgolfdiscs.com suggests a Valkyrie, Roc, and Aviar for 3 discs. They do use Amazon Pay but you can't use a gift card for that, which is why I assume you specify Amazon.

The problem with buying a set is they're just going to give you what ever they have but it will be cheaper than buying individually.

This Innova Set is decent, The TeeBird is my favorite Innova fairway drive and one of the best all around discs and it has a recommended Roc. I can't say anything about the Rhino but I think when you're starting out putters don't matter much. A similar Innoa Set This one is Leopard, Roc, and Aviar. So maybe this is a little safer as most players will agree that Roc and Aviar are solid discs. Then maybe throw in a GStar Valkyrie and you're just over $40 but you've got some solid discs.

This set of 4 Discraft goes right up to your budget but there's no listing of discs so it's a gamble. In the photo you see a Nuke which is a horrible disc for beginners.

This DGA set Is notable because they're all 150 class discs. Lighter discs can be good for absolute beginners but if you did play a little and can throw then light discs might be more of a burden. It all depends on your arm speed, I'd probably suggest this more for women and children. The Squall is a great beginner mid and the Reef is a solid putter. In normal plastic I'd say the Rogue is not good for beginners but being so light it might work.

Pacific standard time..

hm...

Carry the 1..

THERE'S STILL TIME!!

I'm in this RAOA!

Okay.. okay.. breathe chris..

Hi, I'm Chris! Congrats on your good deed! Now instead of just feeling regular good, you get to feel double good with a shopping spree! So that's nice.

I myself have had my eye on these CHAMPION SPORTS FLYING DISCS (or frisbees, to you)

But that's an add-on item! So I don't know how much it costs to ship by itself. So if that's not cool, I also enjoy chocolate.

u/col3yf_- · 1 pointr/discexchange

In case of lazy

I have it, for the price its nice. If you have Prime it's 28ish bucks shipped. I got it a while back when it was like 19 dollars on prime (I had it in a wish list). My nieces love playing with it. video proof

u/sloecrush · 19 pointsr/discgolf

You are arguing a false consensus. This isn't about your personal experience. Here are the stats...

PDGA 2018 Active Memberships: 46,457

USAU 2018 Total Members: 60,927

WFDF 2018 Memberships: Over 160,000

Those USAU members all throw Discraft. But since WFDF oversees multiple disc sports, it's not as easy to argue. I just want you to realize that every single club or pro ultimate player in the world has at least one Discraft UltraStar in their possession. That is the only disc that tournaments are played with. That is the only disc sold at tournaments. I had an old roommate with over 100 UltraStars in his possession.

Discraft is also the third most popular disc manufacturer for disc golfers to bag, according to this source. But unfortunately, these companies aren't publicly traded so we don't have any stakeholder newsletter or anything similar to know what their YOY profits are.

I'm just saying you're looking at this from your perspective, instead of considering the hundreds of thousands of people that play another disc sport that uses exclusively one mold.

And we haven't even touched dog disc manufacturers like HypeFlite or—don't forget—Wham-O who still produces the official GUTS disc. I'd love to compare their numbers as well. Wham-O makes an estimated $59.7 million per year in revenue...

u/bw1870 · 2 pointsr/WiggleButts

For the money, I've found these to be the best discs : http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0012OBWAA/ref=oh_details_o06_s00_i00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

I've gone through 4-5 other brands and never got more than the 2-3 months I get from these. They get chewed up within a week or two, but stay together and we still get a good 40-50' throw up to the end.
Also, Rhett likes them because they relatively soft and flexible and won't tear up her mouth.

u/stoaster · 1 pointr/pics

I don't know if the one I had as a kid was name brand or not, but it was pretty much the same. I had so much fun with that thing, definitely prefer it over the more common kind of frisbee.

Link for those that are interested.

No parently advice, but the I've listed some small-size discs that could be good options. For a one-year-old, I'm having a hard time imagining her throwing a real disc, but I'd think rollers would be an option.

My short recommendation: a light mini disc that can be thrown indoors without breaking things (Wham-o is lighter than Discraft), a soft cloth disc, or a whiz ring. Any larger disc won't be throwable by a one-year-old, and will quickly become scary indoors in the hands of a two-year-old. Links and suggestions below.

My personal experience is limited to the Discraft mini, the Wright Life Wham-o mini (light and flies), the DDC disc, fastback, and Jstar, and miscellaneous other minis (avoid the heavy disc golf markers).

Discraft mini ultra star. Very small (4" diameter?) and flies. Heavy enough to be able to throw it reliably. Even lighter minis might be better indoor choices. http://www.dtworld.com/SuperColor-Mini-Star-p/dcsmin.htm
http://www.dtworld.com/When-A-Ball-Dreams-p/licwhb02.htm
http://www.wrightlife.com/flying-disc-sports/wham-o-wl-mini-frisbee/

Double-disc court disc. 110g, I think. Smaller than Jstar and lighter, so it takes less power to throw. Not as wind-resistant. I think a Fastback would be a decent option in this category, too. http://www.dtworld.com/DDC-Disc-p/licwhf02.htm
http://www.wrightlife.com/flying-disc/wham-o-fb6-fastback-frisbee-original-mold/

Discraft J-star. This is the youth disc, smaller rim and diameter and easier to handle for small hands. But this is more for elementary school or middle school age. It's a great disc and flies well. 145g or so. http://www.discstore.com/discs/j-star-145-gram-youth-discraft-ultimate-disc

Come to think of it, having watched in terror as a 2 year old wound up and hurled a disc golf putter indoors, you might also consider a soft option, like the Pocket Disc: http://www.discstore.com/discs/pocket-disc-indoor-edition

Or maybe this soft kids disc: http://www.amazon.com/Melissa-Doug-Tootle-Turtle-Flying/dp/B003AHG2ZC/ref=pd_sim_t_5/176-7178806-2823751?ie=UTF8&refRID=1Z35A142BVVZ6DC98ZDT

These freestyle brushing practice Whiz Rings also take almost no effort to throw and are really light (less likely to break things/hurt anyone): http://www.wrightlife.com/flying-disc-sports/whiz-ring-fpa/

August is amazing as it is the container for the Perseids Meteor shower which usually kicks off and peaks around Aug 11-13th. It's one of the most active cyclical showers and there is nothing like a warm August night watching streaks of light repetitively shoot across the sky. We usually head out to a stargazing pad and spend a few hours out there just joking around and oohing and aahhing at the sky.

A badass night frisbee to play with my daughter during the 31 days of August.

u/GreatCatch · 2 pointsr/randomactsofamazon

This to play with your dog or your friends :) It would last a long time and your dog would be so happy. You would both get exercise too.

u/Chezzik · 4 pointsr/discgolf

Everything is 3/4" pipe. The total costs of the joints at Lowe's is $9.24:

  • 5 Tees, $0.47 each
  • 1 Cross, $2.37
  • 4 45-degree elbows, $0.86 each
  • 4 90-degree elbows, $0.27 each

For the pipe, you can get 10 feet of 200psi pipe for $1.51. This works fine for all the tubes except for the main vertical shaft. For that, you want to get the heavier pipe, so that it will make a tighter fit with the post on the basket. I think the heavier pipe is around $2.50 for 10 feet. All together, you'll be spending about $13.

The basket itself is $18.83 right now on Amazon: http://amzn.com/B000OWL0X0

The first design I tried was this. It's a few bucks cheaper, because it uses less of the 45 degree elbows, but would need glue to keep it from falling over in one direction. I started with edges that were 2 feet long for the base, and so when I decided to bisect them, I made them 11.25 inches (allowing 1.5 inches for the tee). When I went with the final design, I kept that measurement the same. Here's what I ended up for total pieces:

  • 8 pieces 11.25" -- for the base
  • 2 pieces 11.5" -- for the long diagonals
  • 2 pieces 8" -- for the short diagonals
  • 2 pieces 4.5" -- for the long arms
  • 2 pieces 3" -- for the short arms
  • 1 piece 2" -- vertical piece under the cross
  • 1 piece 27" -- main vertical shaft, holds the basket

Total length of tube needed: 173 inches. A single ten foot piece from the hardware store is 120 inches. So, you'll need two of them.

I marked the distances with a sharpie, and then cut them with a compound miter box saw. I didn't allow any space for the cut, since tolerances here are pretty lax anyway. If you don't have a compound miter box saw, you can just use a hacksaw instead, but it will take a lot longer, and you'll need to sand the pieces after each cut.

I didn't bother gluing any of this, but it's pretty sturdy. If you plan to use it a lot, it would be worthwhile to glue the joints, and spray paint it.

It's not a black friday deal, but amazon sells 6 packs of ultrastars at a good price. plus it's amazon so shipping isn't that much, especially if you have prime.

This light up frisbee is integral to my spirit, as it soars though the air like a bullet, riding the wind with precision and grace. My soul is a beacon in the dark, and stands as a guide for those who cannot see when all light is lost.

Kids love the squidgie:

Flying toys:

Light and compact. Good way for a shy-ish person to hang out with folks and make new friends. Just start messing around with the glowing flying toy around dusk and odds are someone will eventually hands-up for a pass.

u/lookatallthisstuff · 7 pointsr/ultimate

This is the best disc I've found. Holds the flight pattern of a Discraft while still being soft enough to not hurt my pup and it's also fairly indestructable.

u/_StatesTheObvious · 5 pointsr/videos

I am laughing at the objects he keeps pulling out.

u/adamdavenport · 3 pointsr/discgolf

I want to love it. Aeriobie’s flying rings are absolutely mind boggling.

u/dawiz2016 · 2 pointsr/BorderCollie

This one: https://www.amazon.de/Aerobie-Pro-Wurfring-präziser-Orange/dp/B002EXLBXQ/ref=mp_s_a_1_2?keywords=aerobie+pro&qid=1563315738&s=gateway&sr=8-2

Btw I’m not trying to sell these things - I have absolutely nothing to do with the company and I’m pretty sure there are other products who have similar properties

u/crucible · 4 pointsr/CasualUK

That looks like an Aerobie, I had one of those in the 1980s...

Getting it off the roof is easy though, as per the other comment try getting it off an electricity pylon.

Ours love the Chuck-It brand on and this one: http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B002SW0NUA/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o06_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

The plastic ones always made there gums bleed. =(

Buy him a Franklin Starter Pack, as a joke, with a gift card hidden in it somewhere.

Seriously, I play frisbee golf and ultimate frisbee on a regular basis, I have used a dozen of these and own a few, what exactly is the improvement here? And what warrants the inflated $17 price tag?

Same thing, $5, after a ten second google search

u/blubrydnsh · 1 pointr/AustralianCattleDog

Copied this from an old post of mine so sorry for those who may have seen it! The below has lasted over 1.5 years and still going strong.

https://www.amazon.com/Hyperflite-Jawz-Disc-4-Inch-Blueberry/dp/B002CM3O6G/ref=sr_1_8?ie=UTF8&qid=1474300389&sr=8-8&keywords=dog+frisbee

I use that brand and theyve held up extremely well, one of mine is much like y'alls where half the time hed rather try to destroy it after fetching it.

u/TentacleLoveGoddess · 1 pointr/dogs

Have you tried either the Zogoflex Zisc or the Hyperflite Jawz? Those two have held up very well with our Aussie, who shredded the Kong frisbee in minutes.

Edited to add: Looks like Leerburg still has the Chewber in stock

u/heart-cooks-brain · 1 pointr/AdviceAnimals

We're mid 30's and my husband just bought a mini Frisbee golf set up. It has been up in my living room, on my fireplace, for almost 3 weeks with no sign of it coming down anytime soon.

We're not in our 50's yet, but I think it's a good sign our inner children aren't too far away, either!

u/Chautauqua2020 · -1 pointsr/Christianity

I made this thread for this kind of thing

https://www.reddit.com/r/food/comments/3vn0au/medicinal_food_my_superfood_supersmoothie_elixir/

Oh and i also recommend getting a flying disk called an Aerobie. It's astonishing, and so addictive. You can play with him in the park. I once lost a good 6 inches off my waste playing that thing for an hour almost every day.

u/punkpixzsticks · 1 pointr/CasualConversation

Don't play with people who take it so serious. You won't enjoy it. Nor will they.

Also, consider getting one of these to keep up with any people you play with now who are better then you.

u/tstandiford · 2 pointsr/discgolf

These are by far my favorite fetch discs. They’re light, understable, and just floppy enough to be safe to catch.

Insane amount of glide, too.

Here are four designs I found on Amazon:

[Air Hogs Hyper Disc, UFO] (https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00NQBB00Y/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_h99hAbG8CD33D)

u/Lord_Ahrim1536 · 8 pointsr/ultimate

Other than the classic 175g ultimate disc, you could grab one of these throwing rings from Aerobie, I believe it still holds the world record for being the farthest object thrown by a human.

u/wbgraphic · 1 pointr/DIY

I had the same problem, but I think that's an Aerobie.

u/Lynolis · 3 pointsr/dogs

I use a frisbee made by aerobie that is a ring type, the outer edges are rubber but the inner ring that gives the frisbee its shape is made of hard plastic. They aren't the most durable frisbee but my dogs use them daily and it stands up to their chewing and quick games of tug with it for about 2-3 months before needing replaced.

Chuck-it makes several types of fabric frisbees, but I've never used them so I don't know how well they would hold up.

u/PigFarmington · 2 pointsr/discgolf

Funny story. My mom got it for my brother's kids. Some reason my (obviously anal parent with control issues) brother won't allow his kids to play disc golf. They're 10. and 8 yo. I don't know why... The worst part is, he has a disc golf course in his backyard. That's not an exaggeration, look at the hole #7 picture: http://www.dgcoursereview.com/course.php?id=4731. The house with the white fence is his!

I guess after you've seen his house, you can tell what ideologies he probably subscribes to...

Anyway, he rejected it... I...The one who actually plays disc golf got it instead. This is it: http://www.amazon.com/Wham--Mini-Frisbee-Golf-Colors/dp/B000OWL0X0 just different colors.
