Hi I like this ikea Hyllis shelf hack (so affordable!) they are console/buffet height , and could run from lining to living room and accommodate dining needs in that room and media needs in the living room.

Because your room is relatively small and open, I think one long running shelf system will tie it together nicely without visually chopping up the space, and being very functional and useful. As well as pretty.

You wouldn't have to finish the metal and the wood in the same fashion as in this blog, just use the basic concept. Then your options open up to fit in with your style.

http://www.hometalk.com/8081499/hyllis-ikea-hack?expand_all_questions=1

For example the metal part could be painted or metallic paste wax (rubnbuff) to the finish more in line with some of your Pinterest items. The wood could be white washed, or you could go with white ikea countertops or cut stone if you could find sone light weight and affordable...

You might give turning the sofa then another try. And placing the reading chair near the bookshelves. You might be surprised how you can still enjoy the view and see the tv on the shelves... I'll do a drawing.

Your dining room is under the amount of clearance needed for comfortable use (I hate it when builders do this! It should be a minimum of 9'x9') so I would, if it were me, keep it very simple. That's where I'd put your rug! (You might check late season sales for outdoor rugs at places like a Target and Walmart etc. They could be on clearance and usually have great patterns and colors, as well be easy to clean for a dining area. Then I might do one over size art on the back wall. (I'll do a drawing) then just the dining room furniture. It will be very stylish, but also comfortable and I cramped.

For the cube shelf, (I moved it to behind the sofa in my drawing) you might consider leaning a few pieces of art (differing sizes) and accessories, rather than hanging a framed piece. It makes it more changeable, when you like, but more importantly, it feels less columnar and static.

You might consider an inexpensive swivel chair in a color similar to the reading nook chair. They don't have to match exactly in style or color but just feel related. This gives you more seating, and view out the window too.

https://www.amazon.com/Coaster-Swivel-Hydraulic-Tension--Black/dp/B00PB02ZL6/ref=sr_1_13?s=home-garden&ie=UTF8&qid=1473635815&sr=1-13&keywords=swivel+chair ?

https://www.amazon.com/babyletto-Madison-Swivel-Glider-Slate/dp/B0077P3U6W/ref=sr_1_12?s=home-garden&ie=UTF8&qid=1473635899&sr=1-12&keywords=swivel+chair

This also allows the reading nook chair (in my layout suggestion) to be both a reading nook chair most of the time, but when guests are over it can be part of the livingroom seating and work well...

I'm sorry it's hard to read my writing, my drawing app sucks sometimes...

But on left is the long hyllis idea type shelf (this could be hacked with Home Depot materials too, if you don't have an ikea) with the end closest to the dining room being a buffet like shelf and the rest working like a media center.....and the rest I hope is readable. Just ask if you can't read it or have any questions.

Oh I had written putting the tv on a swivel stand. Those are also inexpensive.

Art can be diy-ed in expensively. Our sidebar has many resources and links for ideas. As well it has a rubnbuff link. Fir about $7 you could do most or all of the shelf legs. Really nice stuff and affordable.

And like mrs_shrew said! your ideas are great! and should all (any if them) look really well together in your space.

Baby girl's room is totally ready! It got a lot pinker than I originally planned but I'm so in love. I wanted floral and definitely got it!

  1. Crib and dresser set Davinci Charlie

  2. Glider While I like the glider and am very happy with it I would NOT recommend buying it from this listing as the ottoman did not come with it. Apparently whatever party my mom bought it through did not have the correct SKU# so even though we thought we were buying the matching set that is not what we received and she had to fight with Amazon to get a refund.

  3. Ottoman Not the exact place/price I got this from but same one!

  4. Floral prints from Hobby Lobby (bought in store does not appear to be for sale online anymore)

  5. Floral mobile I love how this turned out!!

    Items we made:

  6. Mobile arm - this was an item I found on Etsy but only from Eastern European shops. I knew it was something we could make cheaply ourselves as we're pretty crafty and handy people. Took some coercion to get my husband to agree and had to do a portion myself to prove him wrong that it could be done the way I wanted (he was going to screw it directly to the crib! 😱) but it was a short weekend project.

  7. We wanted shelving but something a little different rather than a Lowes floating shelf. Saw a window shelf like this at an antique store and again knew we'd be able to make it cheaper. I modge podge'd some woodland animals onto the glass panes.

  8. I couldn't find the right crib bedding (skirt and rail covers) in the style I wanted and when I finally did they were out of stock. It was horribly depressing. Plus what the heck it's so expensive! So I made everything myself. I am ok at sewing and this was a huge task - particularly because I had to draft the patterns completely freehand. All in all it took me 3 weeks of work. This fabric was way more coral than I originally wanted but I'm still terribly pleased with it and gives the room some good color!

  9. Made the window seat cushions myself, too. The cat is obsessed.

So I'm being made aware of the Top 5 rule, so here we go:

  1. The swivel chair was one of my first and favorite purchases.

Naomi Home Odelia Swivel Rocker Recliner Microfiber/Bright White https://www.amazon.com/dp/B077W192G6/ref=cm_sw_r_other_apa_i_CRPbDbVXKQ5KM

  2. Did a lot of research on dressers because apparently many of them are very poorly made, ended up finding this Delta dresser on Amazon for cheaper than BBB or Wayfair.

Delta Children Universal 6 Drawer Dresser, White https://www.amazon.com/dp/B004FUPWN6/ref=cm_sw_r_other_apa_i_FGPbDbR2TZKYS

  3. Can't forget the artwork from the very talented Lena from Bulgaria. Please check out her shop!!

    https://www.etsy.com/shop/RomaLena

  4. The rug was the second purchase I made, and I purchased an extra thick rug pad for it to make it nice and soft.

Unique Loom Estrella Collection Colorful Abstract Blue Area Rug (8' 0 x 10' 0) https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07PQMCW5F/ref=cm_sw_r_other_apa_i_jdtIDbE80RB75

  5. And lastly, for anyone looking for a smaller bookshelf/toy storage, I really love this last little piece we added to help with organization.

RiverRidge 3-Cubby, 2-Veggie Bin Kids Floor Cabinet, White https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01NBVQSXS/ref=cm_sw_r_other_apa_i_mftIDbTJACYRK

Overall I pieced this room together over the course of almost the entire pregnancy, and a lot of the bigger items were purchased during sales or using coupons, which helped a ton. The smaller touches were found in clearance bins or at Dirt Cheap (i.e. The curtains, jars, mirror, etc).

Here is the link for it! The grey is actually called Slate. It's a bit darker in the amazon picture, but it's very true to a slate color like in my pics. If you go with the Ecru, beware that it's not a pure white, more like an off-white or eggshell, according to the reviews. It's $299 with Amazon Prime shipping, if you have that subscription. Which saved us a ton of $$ on shipping from other places too!

babyletto Madison Swivel Glider, Slate

u/xtinalala · 1 pointr/beyondthebump

I actually have two (don’t judge):

Baby Relax Swivel Glider, Dark Taupe https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00I2HDG7W/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_Y9bOAbKQN1ZS3

https://www.target.com/p/dorel-rocker-glider/-/A-11538985

My wants were about comfort and height/back support. I was also concerned about size bc most of these gliders are on the small side/assuming that nursery is compact. I’m happy with both of these - they’re comfy and help support my back. I wouldn’t be able to sleep in them though my husband nods off sometimes. He can sleep standing up. The grey one is in her nursery and the wooden one is in my living room.

u/cutiebug63 · 1 pointr/BabyBumps

My ex-step mother had this one after she gave birth and it is absolutely amazing! it reclines, its so comfortable, its easy to clean, it has pockets on the side. I've been saving up money to buy it because I know no one will buy it for us. But even when I was 9 years old, holding my baby sister, I felt completely comfortable and safe in it.

u/stupidflyingmonkeys · 5 pointsr/BabyBumps

I don't like the way gliders look either, so I'm on the hunt for a nursery chair like this or this.

Back in my nannying days, I had a family that had something similar to the first link, and it was one of the most comfortable chairs my behind has ever had the pleasure of sitting in. 10/10 recommend.

u/aspiring_cat_lady · 3 pointsr/BabyBumps

Top Five!

  1. Animal prints- https://etsy.me/2HZLsgS (bonus item: frames sold separately - https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07KRJNNHS/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_i_8ybEDbCZF3VVQ)
  2. Cloud shelves- these were made for me by one of my closest friends! She also made the decorative arrows on the other wall.
  3. Rainbow- this is an awesome item that’s actually a stacker toy! For now we’re just using it as decoration because my daughter is way too young for that kind of toy https://etsy.me/2FJftCJ
  4. Crib- https://babyletto.com/products/hudson-3-in-1-convertible-crib-with-toddler-bed-conversion-kit
  5. Glider- loooove this glider! It’s so comfortable and the ottoman glides too! https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01LYJOOCH/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_i_GybEDbGB8ENGH
u/CourtStuff87 · 1 pointr/BabyBumps

It's definitely something to consider. I have my heart set on non-wood though. Lower, smaller. My style and what I'm aiming for in her nursery has me wanting something like this: http://www.amazon.com/babyletto-Madison-Swivel-Glider-Slate/dp/B0077P3U6W/ref=sr_1_23?ie=UTF8&qid=1406826793&sr=8-23&keywords=glider ...and thats without the ottomon. I love the babyletto stuff. I just bought her the Babyletto Hudson Crib and I love the sleek, modern, low to the ground style that Babyletto seems to have. I am probably going to have to compromise here though...

u/hurler_jones · 1 pointr/Buyingforbaby

We ended up with this glider and love it. We wanted something that could transition out of the nursery eventually and had the moving parts concealed. It swivels 360, smooth action and super comfy.

u/ttcatexan · 3 pointsr/TFABGrads

I think this is the rocker/recliner I had on my registry, but I think this is the one we were given. I wanted one that didn't have an ottoman to be in the way (or that I could cat nap in if needed), but still rocked (and also the other reasons you described). I'm glad we were given something, though, even if it wasn't what we requested! We get a lot of use out of the glider. FWIW, we currently have it in the living room, since Audrey's bedroom is upstairs but she's currently rooming with us downstairs. I don't think it looks hideous in the living room, but we also look like college kids with our hodgepodge furniture.

I have had this glider since we purchased it from Kohl's in 2017 for my daughter's nursery and I love it! So comfortable. I couldn't find the color I have anymore but it's a sage green microfiber that matched my daughter's room. Pictured in this nursery for baby boy is an off-white minky cover I got from Amazon. Linking to the cover as well.

I ordered it from [Amazon] (https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B01BQLP0OM/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o01_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1), and the assembly was really easy.

Pulled the trigger on a glider this morning after a surprise price drop! We're in an apartment and the boys will be sharing a room so I needed something relatively small and discrete that doesn't require a lot of space (aka not a recliner), as I'm literally shoving it against a wall in a semi-corner, plus I really loathe the look of traditional gliders/rocking chairs. It should be here Wednesday, and then we'll be all set for furniture!

Last big purchase will be the car seat :) I've been wanting to buy that keyfit combo on BBB that you can snag for about $250 (stroller + car seat) after tax, but my parents have hinted several times that the car seat is a Christmas present (I know for a fact they haven't purchased it yet.) I just worry that they're going to ignore what we've registered for and buy whatever - which would be fine, but we drive a TINY car and already have one car seat in it, so our options are extremely limited (see: 3~4 infant seats that are <$300.) When you factor in that I'd like something that clicks into a frame or stroller and I'm unwilling to spend $250+ on a stroller, that narrows our options down even more. They would be extremely offended if we were to return whatever they purchased for us - my mother would accuse us of being ungrateful and hold it above our heads for years (I have precedent for this behavior. She does this) while simultaneously ignoring my explanations of why it had to be XYZ car seat. I just want to buy the travel system and be done with it.
