I am
cheapfrugal so I always try flying Southwest when I'm traveling for golf cuz clubs fly free. I have a beastly SKB hard case that looks like an anti-aircraft bazooka case haha. It has kept my clubs safe (got it for around $150 or something), but I wish I would have bought a case like this.My case is very heavy with the clubs/shoes/etc... inside, nearly 50 lbs and it's kind of a hassle to lug around the airport and in hotels (especially if you are going to Vegas and you have to walk 1/2 a mile inside the hotel just to get to your room). The legs that pop out with the wheels so you just have to push it would be clutch.
If money is plentiful in your life, I would recommend a golf club shipping company like ShipSticks or something. I have some rich friends that use the service and they love it, I'm just too
cheapfrugal to spend $120 for a service like that (and that's domestic pricing), international I remember being $250ish.thanks! It's an older bag, couldnt tell you the model, but something like this would work which is 50 inches - http://www.amazon.com/Izzo-Golf-Padded-Travel-Cover/dp/B00CUEFDSS/ref=sr_1_4?ie=UTF8&qid=1464635898&sr=8-4&keywords=travel+golf+bag
The key is packing your Boosted in the box it came in, then throw it in the golf bag. I just measured the boosted box and its 40 inches length, so go with 45inches + on the golf bag. I flew SouthWest, and it wasnt overweight nor oversized. I was able to fit a few pairs of shoes, my helmet, gopro hardcase full of accessories, so there was plenty of room for extra gear. Hope this helps
I bought one of these
http://www.amazon.com/SKB-2SKB-4812WS-Standard-Golf-Travel/dp/B0007VNZDG/ref=lp_3411161_1_9?s=golf&ie=UTF8&qid=1451939925&sr=1-9
Considering my irons were $1000, driver $400, putter $300, wedges $100 bucks apiece, and my 4 wood around $200, $150 bucks on a sturdy hard case is nothing. I have no worries about them at all. I have owned it for 4 years and never once had a problem.
People like soft cases for some reason, probably cause they can pack their clothes and save on baggage fees, but I always fly southwest and this qualifies as one free bag, and my suitcase my second free bag.
I personally would never use a soft case. Yes, I know a lot of pro's use the Club Glove, but a lot of pro's also fly private jets to tournaments.
People swear by high end travel bags but I only need one maybe once a year and none of my clubs are worth much so I got a really cheap one and I've always been happy with it.
Soft bags are easier to fit in cars and stuff and I'd recommend soft over hard. If you get a soft bag you want want of these things https://www.amazon.com/Bag-Boy-BackBone-Travel-Cover/dp/B008FW82YQ/ref=lp_3411161_1_2?s=golf&ie=UTF8&qid=1485209599&sr=1-2
Without one you risk the shafts on woods getting damaged.
I got this one for $70 and love it. I would suggest picking up the Stiff Arm as well.
I love the piece of mind that the Stiff Arm gives you since it feel pretty sturdy and ensures that it takes any pressure put on the top of the bag.
I got an OGIO off of Amazon for my trip last year. Very great reviews and seemed to do the job. It's soft shell but there's lots of padding and straps to keep things anchored. Here's the one I got. It was like $120 on amazon prime.
https://www.amazon.com/OGIO-Golf-2017-Mutant-Travel/dp/B01IDMNR0G/ref=pd_sbs_468_9?_encoding=UTF8&pd_rd_i=B01IDMNR0G&pd_rd_r=9RKE6TX6P9ZYTRACN4CB&pd_rd_w=iOoOw&pd_rd_wg=8NpRL&refRID=9RKE6TX6P9ZYTRACN4CB
I most definitely recommend you get a Stiff Arm though, no matter what bag you choose. Don't want other luggage resting on your club heads and holding the shafts at a bend for 5 hours on a plane.
got this bag and this support rod
if you end up w/ a soft shell definitely get a support rod for peace of mind
I saw something interesting at sports authority today when I was walking around. Didn't stop to take a full look but it essentially looked like a lockable case for a bag with clubs in it similar to a pelican case you'd use for rifles or other valuable stuff.
I also just found This on Amazon when I googled locking golf club case.
I did the same. Works pretty great. Seems to have held up better than friends with actual trap cases. Also, can be cheaper...
Golf case $160 http://www.amazon.com/SKB-2SKB-4812WS-Standard-Golf-Travel/dp/B0007VNZDG
Trap case $310 http://www.amazon.com/SKB-Large-Hardware-Internal-Wheels/dp/B0002F79CK
Now, they're not exactly the same obviously, but they can pretty much do the exact same job.
Amazon has a very affordable travel bag for $55 that definitely gets the job done. Also recommend getting the BackBone for additional support (it extends in the travel bag as added protection for your clubs in case the bag is thrown in head first). Linked both below.

I got this based on the buyers guide on My Golf Spy and I absolutely love. Would also highly recommend adding a back bone.
This is what I currently use along with the stiff arm. It's gone on about 5 trips so far and not a single issue. I have a cart bag and everything fits just fine I throw my shoes in the top portion of the bag instead of the shoe pockets. I'm pretty sure the company also has a lifetime warranty with it.
I’d second the case. Here’s a link to the one I have, it has served me well. There are a ton of good options out there

I also got this, it keeps the clubs a little safer.
https://www.amazon.com/Bag-Boy-BackBone-Travel-Cover/dp/B008FW82YQ/ref=pd_aw_fbt_200_img_2/130-7637356-5498917?_encoding=UTF8&pd_rd_i=B008FW82YQ&pd_rd_r=cb14b943-c548-44d1-871e-141a08f437a0&pd_rd_w=TD5qO&pd_rd_wg=w0GUU&pf_rd_p=0bda97b1-9615-4960-b748-b906a3521083&pf_rd_r=X791MKM82QWB2KNKD0KA&psc=1&refRID=X791MKM82QWB2KNKD0KA
I got this case a couple years ago and have traveled with it several times since. It's been pretty bulletproof and protected my clubs well. It qualifies as a normal checked bag, so it's not super expensive to fly with.
This CaddyDaddy Golf Constrictor 2 Travel Cover (Black/Grey) https://www.amazon.com/dp/B007OK8588/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_6eWSAbTHBD5E0
And this Bag Boy BackBone Travel Cover https://www.amazon.com/dp/B008FW82YQ/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_0fWSAbXKTVF9E
And now you can travel with your clubs. I have this setup and have never had problems. Just take the head off your driver. It's worth the investment trust me. Once you can travel with your clubs it's a game changer and you'll find plenty of excuses over the years to bring them with you places.
I have this one. It's survived multiple round trip flights
https://www.amazon.com/INTECH-Golf-Travel-Cover-Wheels/dp/B000A0IK8O/ref=sr_1_6?s=golf&ie=UTF8&qid=1488254807&sr=1-6&keywords=golf+travel+bag
I also can recommend the Caddy Daddy constrictor 2 from Amazon. I've used it a few times and haven't had any issues. I make sure to use it with a backbone like this one. I take the driver head off and keep it in the driver head cover. I wrap a bath towel around the top as well just to provide a bit more cushioning.
I would like a hard cover case but I observed that it would have been difficult to transport it in a sedan sized car.
No wheels, but that's what I have a scooter for. Ha! Here's a link to the bag: https://smile.amazon.com/gp/product/B00CUEFDSS
There is one with dolly-wheels, just ordered to test compatibility with other models like the Spider, Dart/Zero 9, etc. Will report finding back by the end of the week.
https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00CUEFDGA
With my wife we use a bag forGolf equipmen for our bogus, easily enter both bogus and our shinai and bokken. But we only use it for travel (it is quite large), for daily use she made me a bag for my shinai with old pants.
___
You could buy a golf bag travel case and fit sticks and equipment in there then just empty your equipment bag and stuff it in there that's an idea.
http://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B000A0IK8O/ref=mp_s_a_1_4?qid=1427828858&sr=1-4&pi=AC_SX110_SY165_QL70
I've taken my clubs on southwest for 20+ flights and never had any issue with broken or damaged clubs.
I've always used one of these long arm club protectors to keep shafts from snapping if the case gets dropped, or hit hard.
https://www.amazon.com/JEF-Protector-Travel-Support-Protection/dp/B06VW6JF1D/ref=sr_1_6?ie=UTF8&qid=1511459087&sr=8-6&keywords=stiff+arm
This is the soft case i've used for the last 5 years and it has held up great!
https://www.amazon.com/CaddyDaddy-Constrictor-Travel-Cover-Black/dp/B007OK866Y/ref=sr_1_7?s=sporting-goods&ie=UTF8&qid=1511459315&sr=1-7&keywords=caddy%2Bdaddy&th=1
Granted the bag + the stiff arm would go a little over your budget but for the same price as ship sticks you'll have a travel case and as long as your fly southwest you never pay extra to bring your clubs
i always preferred one of these.
http://www.amazon.com/INTECH-Golf-Travel-Cover-Wheels/dp/B000A0IK8O/ref=sr_1_5?ie=UTF8&qid=1451588532&sr=8-5&keywords=golf+club+case
https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0007VNZDG/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_search_asin_title?ie=UTF8&psc=1
could have just gotten this and you wouldn't need the club protector...
Very sturdy case: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B000A13PGA
This is what I use: https://www.amazon.com/Bag-Boy-Hybrid-Travel-Cover/dp/B004NZNCE4
I have a hard shell one similar to the one in the link below. I'd sell it for $100 + shipping. Shipping from Illinois.

Flown with my 716 Mb's, scotty cameron, and 915 driver 3 times the last two years with one of these. No problems. If you're really worried, disassemble your driver head with a torque wrench and leave the shaft in the bag.
