This is about a 3b. I have 3b hair and while his cut is a lot different than mine the curl is pretty similar.

You need a good daily hair care routine that is going to require some trial and error on your end.

Here's a basic step by step routine:

Detangling - Get in the habit of detangling your hair while its wet. Get yourself a widetooth comb intended for detangling (like this one) and while your hair is wet use it and your fingers to pull out any of your tangles, pay close attention to the back of your head where it would normally rest against any sort of headrest (chair, car, whatever). Don't worry about getting them all, this is something you'll be doing throughout the routine, we're just getting started.

Now that we've loosened up our hair it's time to cleanse it.

Cleanser - It's best to think of this step like face wash, but for your hair, in this step you're getting rid of any oils or products still left in your hair and cleaning it.

There are three main types:

1. Shampoo - We don't want normal shampoo, however, it isn't good for our hair. You want a non-sulfate shampoo, which won't dry out or damage your hair.
   
   
2. Hair Cleanser - Often comes in a creme form, this is one of the more popular shampoo alternatives.
   
   
3. Cowash - This is a conditioner that also cleanses. Sort of like those all in one bottles of body wash/shampoo/conditioners except its just conditioner intended to clean your hair without damaging it like a sulfate shampoo. I currently use a cowash, this one in particular.
   
   With your hair still wet use your cleanser of choice and wash your hair, but before you start washing it out, it's time to break out your detangler comb and work out the tougher tangles now that your hair is lubed up and they'll give easier.
   
   Wash the product out and if you weren't using a cowash, go ahead and use your favorite conditioner (this is going to be a big experiment on your part, personally I cut this out by going the cowash route).
   
   To Dry or Not to Dry?
   
   So the next stype is styling your curls with any number of products, but before we get to that step, there's another thing you're going to want to experiment with, which is, whether or not you want to dry your hair before applying it. Personally, I prefer a good middle ground on this as it gives me the best results, so I'll towel dry my hair a little bit so that it's no longer "wet" but sort of "damp". Experiment with this until you find the best results for you.
   
   Curl Definintion, Anti-Frizz, and Styling
   
   Now that your hair is clean and conditioned and ready to apply hair product let's talk about some hair products. I recommend picking up at least 1 of each of the big options I'll list below because they each do things a little differently and often times you can find yourself mixing and matching and experimenting to find the best results.
   
   The big ones to consider:
   
   
4. Leave-In Conditioner/Hair Milk - These are light hair products that are meant to hydrate/moisturize your hair. They are great to get your hair ready to style and are often used as a refresher to re-define loose curls and combat frizz. In some cases this is all you need to get a nice leave and go hair style. I have been using this leave-in for a few months now and I love it!
   
5. Curl Creme/Smoothie - This product is all about softening, moisturizing, refreshing, conditioning, styling, and combatting frizz, a lot like a Leave-In, and because they are so much like a leave-in you can use them as such, some cremes/smoothies are marketed that way. It's a moistorizing styler that leaves your hair soft to the touch unlike other options. I use this curl smoothie, I have been using this one for 2 months now, but I experimented with a lot before settling on this one.
   
6. Curl Definer/Pomade - In contrast to the Creme/Smoothie option we have the definer/pomade/gel option. These are good for hold, shine, and controlling frizz. They have a sleek/wet/polished look to them as they lock in moisture and often have wax in them. This combination makes them great for maintaining that defined curl look throughout the day, where others you'll have to re-apply or refresh at some point in a longer day. These products will leave your hair crunchy or oily or both, especially if you over-use the product, and if you have naturally oily hair I'd avoid using this product entirely. I have two products for this job. First is Curls' Gel-Les'C, which is pretty light (thanks to using a little gel in its mixture) and doesn't give me too much crunch, which I like. The second is
   Carol's Daughter Mimosa Hair Honey, which I'm really liking.
   
   Once you figure out which products youre going to use, follow their directions and style your hair the way you like.
   
   But just to quickly review my process is as follows:
   
   
7. Wake up, shower, de-tangle.
   
8. Cowash + detangle some more.
   
9. Partially dry the hair, and put in leave-in conditioner.
   
10. I let it sit for a few minutes while I get dressed/make breakfast/whatever.
    
11. Apply either Curl Creme/Smoothie or Pomade and style. My day-to-day is the curl creme and I usually shake and go/finger comb and use a pick to make sure there's an equal amount of "puff" all around.

• a professional straight razor shave. I had some friends do this on a bachelor party and they all seemed to love the whole old school experience of the hot towel and warmed cream etc.

I have my best luck on hair that is drenched in conditioner. I never try to detangle dry hair (but it works for some people). My method for extremely tangled hair:

• section hair into 4-6 sections with clips or hair ties
  
  
• apply conditioner to a section till drenched. (Sometimes it helps to either (1) wet hair first with a spray bottle like this, then apply conditioner, or (2) mix conditioner and water in a spray bottle
  
  
• finger detangle section
  
  
• use wide tooth comb like this to gently detangle hair. start at the end of the hair and with each pass of the comb gradually move up higher until you reach the root of your hair and are combing from root to ends
  
  
• put the section back up and move on to the next, following the same steps
  
  
• shampoo and condition hair like normal
  
  
• for extra detangling, I might finger detangle/ comb my hair again while conditioner in is my hair, using the stream of water to help ease out any tangles
  
  If my hair isn’t too tangled, I basically do the same process, but I do it all in the shower (sectioned hair, detangle section by section with conditioner)

It is way post-Christmas but I'd revisited your other post because I remembered your hair. My hair used to look like that.

Gurl, your hair looks seriously dry and damaged, and I think that is 99% of the reason why it looks so frizzy in these photos. I dunno if you've spent much time over at /r/curlyhair but it is worth getting there for an in-depth look. But basically, right now I would bet you shampoo your hair every day and if you use a conditioner it has silicones in it. The silicones build up in your hair, necessitating a harsh shampoo to get rid of them. This means you're constantly stripping the oils from your hair, day after day, and it's seriously messing them up. You gotta remove the silicones from your routine, stop shampooing as often, and moisturize the crap out of it.


That said, as a fellow poor person here is what I would do if I were you:

Buy

1. VO5 Shampoo. You want the cheap kind that comes in these types of bottles, ~$0.50-1.50/bottle at a drugstore or grocery. I have no idea why these cost so much on Amazon, that's crazy. Doesn't matter the scent, just pick one without silicones. Look on the back, there shouldn't be anything in the ingredient list that ends in "-one". Most don't, but there are a couple that do, I think the "strengthening" types.
   
2. VO5 Conditioner. Again, SILICONE-FREE. Again, you should not be paying more than $0.50-$1.50 for this.
   
3. Nature's Gate Conditioner in Jojoba or Aloe. I like Jojoba better. This is a nice base conditioner that's also silicone-free. It's probably going to run you $5-$7 a bottle and may be harder to find in a grocery or drugstore--this you may have to order online.
   
4. Jojoba Oil. You do not want "hair oil" that you find in most drug and grocery stores. Look at the ingredient list--it will be basically industrial-grade silicones that won't do shit for repairing your hair. So you gotta find the real stuff. Crunchy-granola stores, Trader Joe's, Wegman's, Whole Foods will probably sell small bottles of it, usually by a company called Desert Essence (I literally have never seen any other brand of Jojoba Oil sold in any physical stores). This is the most expensive item on this whole list. If you buy it in physical stores you'll pay about $10 for this 4 oz bottle. If you buy online, you can find much better deals--this brand is cheaper per ounce and it's working for me. But you may want to get the smaller bottle at first just to see if you like it.
   
5. A normal-type comb for distributing hair-care products though your hair.
   
6. A wide-tooth comb for detangling.
   
7. Shower cap (optional)
   
   Next, it's time to
   
   
   FIX DAT HAIR
   
   
8. Wash with the VO5 Shampoo. We're getting all the residual silicones out. Use the wide-tooth comb followed by the small comb to gently distribute it through then rise. Now put it away. You will not need this again for at least a week.
   
9. Take your Nature's Gate Conditioner, and draw the outline of a circle about quarter to half-dollar size on your palm.
   
10. Fill that circle in with jojoba oil. Yes this is a lot of oil. Your hair needs it, trust me.
    
11. Mix the oil and conditioner together.
    
12. Massage it into your hair. Concentrate on the ends. Comb with the wide and small-toothed comb to really distribute it evenly. Be gentle because technically you're not supposed to comb wet hair but darnit, I've found it turns out better that way.
    
13. Now, ideally you put your hair up in the shower cap and wait at least 30 minutes. Maybe take a long bath, or primp, or watch Netflix, or whatever. The idea is you let the oil really soak in. At the very least take your sweet time taking the rest of your shower.
    
14. Rinse. Your hair should not feel squeaky when you pull on it in the shower. You don't want it to. That would mean it's not moisturized.
    
15. Gently detangle with fingers and wide-tooth comb (NOT THE SMALL ONE!) and let air dry.
    
    
    Ideally your hair will look a lot smoother and more manageable at this point. Hopefully it is not limp. If it feels limp and heavy, then I apologize, I told you to use too much jojoba. Use less next time. If it is not smoother and more manageable and still looks frizzy then you need to use MORE jojoba. Whatever the case, move to the next step:
    
    ALL DAY ERRY DAY
    
    This is what you'll be doing to your hair on a daily basis. Notice no shampoo is used. That is fine! The VO5 conditioner is cleaning enough, promise me!
    
    
16. Wash your hair with the VO5 conditioner. Pretend it's shampoo. That is, rub it in your hair, focus near the roots (not those delicate, delicate ends), rinse out. Use more if your hair is feeling limp or you think you used too much jojoba. Use less if it's not or if you haven't done that much that day. DO NOT USE THE SHAMPOO SRSLY YOU DON'T NEED IT
    
17. Repeat steps 2-5 from "Fix Dat Hair". You probably want to use more conditioner and less jojoba, but that will depend on whether your hair is feeling frizzy or limp. If it came out of the the FDH routine still frizzy, then by all means, load up on the jojoba. If it feels limp, then dial the jojoba back and make more of your circle conditioner. As always, when you're conditioning focus your attention on the ends and middle of your hair.
    
18. DO NOT RINSE YET. Now you do the rest of your shower-related routine. This gives the conditioner and oils a bit of time to sink in, just not as much as for the big ol' oil treatment above.
    
19. Rinse. Gently dry to dampness with towel, finger and wide-tooth comb detangle, let air dry.
    
    
    On a weekly basis--at most--you are allowed to replace the VO5 conditioner with the VO5 shampoo. But to compensate you must use extra jojoba because of all the oils you're stripping, and ideally you give it extra time to soak in. Shampoo day is usually the day when I stop being lazy and actually shave my legs and shit. I mean, ideally you shampoo less than weekly but you do what you can tolerate.
    
    
    When you first start this up you might feel like your hair is extra-greasy at the roots. This is normal. Your hair is used to you using the equivalent of dish soap on it every day and has been overproducing oils to try to compensate. The oil production will back down as it gets used to your new, gentler routine. Give it time! If you are really self-conscious about it then use a soft boar-bristle-type brush to distribute the oils from root to tip.
    
    Do NOT flat-iron or use a hair-dryer during this time period. The heat is damaging your hair further. It will make things worse. Anyway, once you see how lovely your curls are in their natural, healthy state you won't feel the need to. :)
    
    If your hair is very thick and coarse then as you get used to the routine you may even want to finger-comb a few drops or more of jojoba oil through it while it's still damp to help moisturize, after the towel-dry. You may want to do this anyway if it's very damaged (especially at the middle and ends).
    
    
    Anyway, I promise this will help. The routine took my hair from being a mess of split ends and nastiness to shiny and healthy, and it's turned my boyfriend's curly beard from a Brillo pad to a soft, bouncy cloud. It is a hell of a lot cheaper than keratin treatments and all that, too. If you go to the /r/curlyhair sub they have all sorts of product and routine suggestions, but I like using the above because they've worked for me and are comparatively cost-conscious.

Are you male or female? If female, I may have some suggestions for you. I've found a few little things that are really helpful. I desperately wish that I'd discovered them years ago before I lost half of my hair volume.

Followup: Hello ladies!

I did some research into female hair loss (reading published medical journal articles, etc.) and found out some of the skinny.

Most female hair loss is related to hormones (Sigh. Isn't everything?) and so to change the loss pattern the hormone receptors in the scalp must be targeted.

For me it is a combination of peri-menopause, being a chubby bunny and extreme stress. The body fat thing is actually quite interesting. Fat cells make and store estrogen, and excess estrogen is converted to androgens by the body, leading to Androgenic Alopecia, ie, Lady Balding.

So how to tackle?

The first and most significant thing that I did was get this nifty shampoo .

Within the first week I noticed a significant lessoning of hair loss (I was coming up with lots in the shower and while brushing. ). I was so excited that I started using the shampoo as sort of a leave-in mask overnight and wash it out in the morning.

I applied it to the "Jean-Luc Picard" area of the scalp, ie the front and top of the head that you see on balding men as those are the most sensitive to the hormonal signals, and ignored the hair itself; remember, hair is dead and there is no point wasting expensive product on something that cannot be changed.

As the shampoo was working so well I went ahead and sprang for this . It's pretty pricy, but based on my research it really does have the most bang for the buck. Again, I use it only on the scalp, and then I use a regular conditioner on the hair itself. It's not greasy at all and doesn't leave the scalp or hair feeling heavy or lank. (As an aside, it is one of the few products that contain caffeine, which has been proven to stimulate hair growth. And the caffein has to be topical. Sorry- a Starbucks Trenta won't work.)



Next, I thought about strengthening the hair itself through better care and found out that using plastic brushes and combs actually weakens and damages hair, leading to breakage and splitting. In the manufacturing process of plastic hair implements molten plastic is forced into a mold and when the plastic has cooled, the mold pulls apart to reveal the bristles/teeth. The means that each and every part has a tiny but significant seam where the two halves of the mold met. This seam acts just like a dull blade and shears along the side of the hair as it passes through, thinning and damaging the shaft. Not cool.

The three best choices for hair brushes/combs are a wooden bristle hairbrush (get the German one; they are better quality), a wide tooth wooden comb , and a boar bristle brush.

Now, if you're going hard core, you can also try microneedling . It increases effectiveness of any scalp application and also just helps to increase blood flow, which in turn gives more nourishment to the hair roots. I'm not gonna lie- it's ouchy, but not unbearably so, and the tenderness fades in a day or so. I do it one a week or so to help with the penetration of the stuff I've spent so much damn money on!

And there's always Rogain/Minoxidil. It's over the counter and they have it at Target. They make both a male and female strength, so read the label.

With all of this stuff I have seen a significant improvement, both in keeping the hair I have and in new growth. I have a weird but wonder layer of about two-inch long baby hairs filling in all over now, and by baby I mean new, not weirdly fine or something. This crap really works!

There are a few more little things, like de-stressing and taking multi-vitamins, plus there is a low-dose old-school blood pressure medication called Aldactone that helps interrupt the DHT receptors and so is good for hair loss, acne, and is a diuretic, so helps with bloating. Your doc may be willing to proscribe as it is sometimes used to treat our other favorite problem, Lady Beards!

We have the same density, fineness and porosity! Tried the method and while it worked for me, I definitely needed to detangle with a wide tooth, but short-toothed comb like this during the conditioning or deep conditioning process because my hair is way fine to just finger detangle.

Using whatever leave-in and styler combo you’ve got lying around is a great starting place. Try a lighter leave-in like in a spray bottle and squeeze that through. You can even try combining a clear but thick leave in with some water in a spray bottle to make sure you can get it all over. The important thing is that you do this while your hair is saturated with water and then squeeze the product through.

Then follow up with a styling cream, or even a gel. It may take a few tries to get the set of stylers right. I used a heat protectant leave-in by Mielle Organics because I planned to diffuse, and followed it up with TGIN gel. It didn’t sound like it mixed well, but these results??? 😭 4c/(b in the back) success! Didn’t even have to use a hair dryer, and it dried in a few hours!!

Either way I hope you’ll find something that works for you. It certainly takes time but it’s worth it!!! Good luck!

I also bought a set of 3, but actually I've found that if you only want to buy just one to start then you can get this one which is 10 dollars and has wider teeth on one side and finer teeth on the other half. Originally I didn't like the design but it is actually super functional because I can use the fine side for stache top lip and maybe even side burns. And use the wider part for the first passes through the sides. Plus the small mustache comb in the 3 pack is good, but it's much too small to be practical for me because I can only use it on my stache so I don't really need it.
All of the Kent combs are awesome, and if you have a longer beard then this portable comb or this rake comb will get deeper into your beard.

Honestly you can't really go wrong with Kent because even the fine toothed combs glide through my curly beard super easily especially when it's wet and/or has oil or balm in it.

I'm sure there are some all in one options but if you don't mind getting single items and composing a box of your own I would recommend:

Grandpas Pine Tar soap

A good conditioner. (I use OGX Hydrating Tea Tree Mint Moisturizing Conditioner)

Some beard oil. Choose something you like. Chances are you will be spending a lot of time close to it. I like Wildman beard oil found on Etsy
Mine has lasted me more than year now.

If possible try and limit the amount you wash your hair allowing your hair to build oils naturally. Washing your hair too often can cause it to become brittle and dry. But if you are in the pool all the time then obviously wash it :) If you are looking for a more affordable shampoo and conditioner I really like Organix Vitamin E shampoo and conditioner. I spend lots of $$ on all things hair but this shampoo and conditioner is hands down my favorite and I have seen the best results. What has really helped me is when using a wide comb and comb your hair when you have conditioner on before rinsing it out. I like the wet brush comb because it is painless! Hey fellow Indian male, I've had mostly short hair for the past 10 years but last year I started growing my hair out and I ran into similar issues. I started using sulfate-free shampoo and silicone-free conditioner about 5 years ago, and after the initial grease period I found myself getting away with only having to use shampoo and conditioner once a week if I washed my hair daily while it was short.

More recently, I've actually switched to water only and it's been pretty good so far! I also started washing my hair every other day instead of daily.

But like I mentioned, I started growing my hair out last year and my hair began to get greasy again like yours. What I've been doing more of is following the advice I found here. I had never heard of terms like scritching and preening before, but thankfully I was already doing them to some extent naturally.

The big difference for me came from combing regularly. With short hair I never really bothered with a comb, but now with longer hair it's very much a necessity. I recently invested in some nice Kent combs and they work so much better than the cheap plastic comb I was using for a while.

The other game changer for me was using a t-shirt to dry my hair after washing it. It's incredible how much less tangled my hair is purely from that change alone.

I also grabbed a boar bristle brush, but with thick, wavy hair it's really not that useful, so I wouldn't recommend getting one if your hair is similar.

I just got a beard brush and beard wax 2 weeks ago for the first time in my life. The beard brush is made of sandlewood

Not sure where you live, but here in the US, Honest Amish makes some good beard wax and beard oil. I think it's great for keeping your beard tidy so it doesn't get all curled up and gnarly looking as it gets longer. Plus, the wax/oil smells really good.

Yep! A beard club can be a lot of fun and most of them run events to benefit a charity of their choosing, generally something local.

There are countless of companies making these products. A search on amazon for beard balm will bring up a ton of options for you as well. The above are just a few that I have tried over the years and they were memorable enough to stick with me, obviously.

For a brush I have been using this simple Diane D8114

For a comb I use this Cricket Ultra Smooth Conditioning Rake

Ultimately it is up to you and what you prefer. I prefer a bit of a firmer balm.

For routine I condition every shower and wash 2-3 times a week. After the shower I towel dry and go about my business allowing my beard to dry naturally if I can (blow dry on cold days when you are in a rush if necessary).
Once dry I put in balm and let that soak in for a few minutes then I will add oil and start combing with the Cricket comb.
Once I am all combed up I have at it with the brush. Use it with a bit of a soft hand you don't want to smash your beard into your face.
At night I will do just balm or oil depending on how dry it is from the day and use the brush. At night I go a bit deeper with the brush to get to the skin.

Me, too! I always find SheaMoisture products in the "ethnic products" section at Walgreens or Target! You might also find a very wide toothed comb useful, something like this, to comb conditioner through your hair in the shower, or to gently detangle before washing.

It does make a difference. It helps keep the follicles moisturized, preventing your beard from getting dry and brittle, but also keeps your beard soft and more manageable. The different scents they come in are very pleasant as well.

Along with combs, I use these daily, you'll want a good boars hair brush to evenly distribute the oil and also to exfoliate the skin underneath the beard to avoid any dry skin or dandruff.

I started using oil about the 1 month mark and I'm now almost to 5 months in. I've used oil every single day since. Hope that helps get you started at least.

This stuff is great as far as a waxy balm. My wife just got me this comb for Christmas and it's so so nice! I find what's almost better than a comb is a nice boar bristle brush. You can find them for cheap at Walmart. I haven't dealt with soaps too much so I can't recommend any. Hope he loves the package!

I think maybe it got too tangled after 8 days. You might want to try detangling it every time you wash so that doesn’t happen but be very, very gentle. Your hair is going to be fragile from the perm. When using the comb start at the very bottom of your hair, detangle that, then work your way up.

Also, if your hair wasn’t detangled for 8 days and is curly it probably wasn’t shedding hair naturally that whole time until you detangled it. So it’s possible that it was 8 days worth of normal hair shedding but just all at once.

Edit: you also said you were using a fine tooth comb and you don’t want that. It’s going to cause breakage. Try something like this instead

Keep it clean and keep it oiled. I have terrible skin, and it wasn't until I got some good shampoo/conditioner and oil that I was able to finally grow a beard. Also using a beard comb to train your whiskers to grow in the right direction can help. There's tons of great products out there, here are the ones that I found and like.

Since her hair is dry from overwashing, you can make your own conditioner for very cheap to help restore it. (Do this after getting a haircut and taking several inches off to get rid of the split ends.)

Buy whole flax seeds. Simmer them in a small pot for an hour on low. Let them air cool for a few hours on the stove. Skim the goop from the top. Strain it using a coffee filter into a little bowl.

Have your daughter use it as a conditioner when she showers next. Going forward, she never shampoos her hair. Ever. Instead, have her wet her hair thoroughly, put this stuff in her hair and leave it there. Then she washes her body, shaves, brushes her teeth, whatever. Then she combs her hair in the shower using a wet brush or very wide tooth comb. Then she rises it out.

It feels very greasy and is kind of difficult to rinse out completely, but I'm okay with that because my hair has a tendency to go fuzzy, so the oilyness helps prevent that.

I used to have hair almost down to my butt and without this stuff, I could have dreadlocks in about two days. I found the spray detanglers aimed at kids don't work nearly as well as this stuff.

I still lose hair in the shower, but not that much. Here's my two cents:

• detangle in the shower with lots of conditioner and a wide tooth comb meant for detangling. I've been using this one for over a year, and haven't had to replace it.
  
  
• when you're detangling, grasp your hair halfway down the shaft and detangle your ends first. If you start closer to the roots, you'll create bigger knots near your ends that are impossible to get out without tearing your hair.
  
  I have extremely thick hair, and I've reduced the amount in my comb/drain catcher each day by at least half. Good luck!

1.5 years after starting the CG method and I will never turn back! See my progress pics from one year ago. I have 3b/3c, extremely low porosity hair. I'm mixed race - African and European descent. I got my first Devacut 3 months ago and I am LOVING it!!

Wash routine: Apply SheaMoisture conditioner (currently using coconut&hibiscus) in shower. Part hair from ear to ear and split into two sections. Comb out tangles in each section with shower comb and plop on top of head. Let hair sit and absorb conditioner for 5-10 minutes. Turn shower water to cold and rinse out conditioner. Lightly pat out excess water. Apply about 1/4 cup of SheaMoisture leave-in conditioner to top and bottom sections. Apply argan oil to roots and tips. Let hair down to dry and pick a side part (I usually pick a different side after each wash). Let dry then apply about 2 tbsp SheaMoisture curl enhancing smoothie.

No-wash routine: Sleep with hair in pineapple. In the morning, spritz hair with just water to loosen curls. Apply more curl smoothie as needed on later no-wash days. I usually go 3-4 days without a wash using this method.

Deep condition routine: I just added this to my routine so I'm still working out details and order, happy to hear suggestions! Heat hair cap in microwave. Apply SheaMoisture shampoo in shower. Rinse. Heat hair cap again if needed (I like to "pre-heat" before my shower so it's close to target temp as soon as I get out). Apply about 2-3 tbsps of Jessicurl Deep Conditioner into hair. Try to detangle hair with shower comb (this part is a struggle and I think needs reordering). Put plastic shower cap over hair and heated hair cap over shower cap. Let sit for 30 minutes. Rinse out deep conditioner in cold water in sink. From here I follow the second half of the wash routine, but I use about half the products.

Razor comb hair trims are super easy and difficult to notice mess-ups. I often use it even after I get haircuts to lighten up my super thick hair.

One of the things I'd definitely advise against is to comb your hair when it's wet. Doing so can pull hairs out unnecessarily. Your best bet if you really want to comb your hair is to get a wide toothed comb like a detangler comb. Because it has wide teeth, your hair is less prone to get stuck at all.

I think he just needs to keep at it. A male model with an amazing beard recommended this to me, and I loved what it did for my beard. The science is that cheap combs can split your ends, make your beard look gross, and rob you of length when you trim the split ends. I cut my own hair all the time with this razor comb. Brush it into the style you want and then just comb through it. Super easy and it saves me cash until I can get into the salon. I actually get compliments when I cut my own hair which confuses me because I literally have little to no idea what I’m doing. The first couple times I was praying that I wouldn’t put a whole in my hair and now I’m just combing like a mad woman. I love it.

Kent Folding Comb. Mine actually broke a week after buying it. The comb is held together with a rivet, but I repaired it with a machine screw and an inset bolt. They have some combs that have pouches to protect the teeth, but the teeth on mine are strong enough I think they could survive a pocket.

Since subscribing to this subreddit (~3 years), I have seen immense changes in my hair - volume, frizz control, overall health. I switch up my routine constantly because I am forever experimenting. However, the common denominator is to avoid parabens, sulfates and silicones and minimize heat. At 26, I realize I am on a never-ending hair journey but it is a fun experience of self-love and a lot of trial and error :)

So without further adieu...

- Washed with Maui Moisture Heal & Hydrate + Shea Butter Shampoo - primarily scalp and then rinsed it out

- Applied Maui Moisture Heal & Hydrate + Shea Butter Hair Mask and Maui Moisture Heal & Hydrate + Shea Butter Conditioner - ponytail length to tip (I struggle with build up), left it in for ~10 minutes in steam shower, ridding large tangles by finger combing

- Semi-dried with a t-shirt

- Finished detangling with large tooth comb

- Separated my hair into sections and applied Maui Moisture Curl Quench + Coconut Oil Curl Smoothie evenly and scrunching with finished sections

- Final spritz for shine and hair health, I sprayed my hair with Marc Anthony Grow Long Anti-Breakage Oil

- Put my hair in a bun for a few hours and then let it down to air dry later - the bun was not meant to be part of my routine, I just had a busy day of errands but this may have helped with the final result

I should also add that this photo was taken on day 2, I slept with my hair in a pineapple style bun as per usual to reduce frizz.

Lol, but seriously. Get yourself a wet comb, and only comb to detangle it in the shower where it's nice and wet. Once you're out of the shower, don't let a comb come anywhere near it. :-P

Clippers? Clippers encourage large mistakes and leave your beard hairs with split ends.

I encourage you to start training yourself to use a pocket comb and barber shears.

  These photos are a couple hours after a shower with time for my hair to naturally dry. I wash every other day and add plenty of conditioner which I allow to sit while I do the rest of my cleaning. If I do ever comb its while in the shower with plenty of conditioner still in my hair as a detangler with a wide tooth comb. After rinsing my hair out I may add a bit more conditioner as a leave-in followed by a couple gobs of the curl defining lotion.
  
  I will gently squeeze extra water from my hair before wrapping my hair in a towel for aprox 5 - 10 minutes just to keep it from dripping on me. I don't do a standard towel hair warp that twist the hair.
  
  On lazy days I skip the leave-in and curl defining lotion.

both are small, light, and disappear into my pack my hair is very wavy and tends to twist and lock up if i don't comb it regularly. i tend to use the comb instead of touching my face if i feel a tickle or a pull, which helps keep the oils clean and healthy.

another thing to consider is how you'll wash your hair. i've been using the biodegradable backcountry all over wash stuff, and it works well, but takes a few days to get proper health and moisture back after being on the trail. i've even had to trim everything off and start over after longer trips.

Three words: wide tooth comb.

Start by combing out the bottom. Slowly work your way up the hair shaft. It takes a bit longer than a brush, but it's pretty effective. Repeat until your hair is completely detangled. The only time I really miss an actual brush is when my hair get's extremely tangled from windy days or other such nonsense, but that's really more of a sign that I should have had it up.

It's okay. It's really nice to see a dude with long hair who doesn't leave it dirty and greasy, lol! Not a dig at you. I'm just so tired of seeing dudes like, grow out hair and then not fucking wash it. Why?

The sideburns are a little messy, but that's covered in other comments. The nape of your neck has a lot of baby hairs, but they're all in a really uniform length... Do you cut them that way? It could be breakage from the hair band, so you might want to switch to a hair stick or a comb like this or this to prevent that if your hair tends to break. If you cut it that way... stop it.

The frizz and flyaways could be from static or dryness. There's some non static combs. You can go high grade or low grade. For dryness, you can try a leave in conditioner, but I don't know what dudes put in their hair, so I don't have any real recommendations.
