The technique I ended up using had you run glue along the top and bottom of the hair of the entire weft where it is sewn together, cut off a small weft, thread hair (with threader) into a large, long needle, and “sew” into place by pushing the needle from the inside to the outside of the head.

I was using the sewing technique originally, but I was cutting small wefts and tying knots into them to keep them in place. It was time consuming and messy. I did not like using a rooting tool, so I never finished a doll that way (maybe I’ll try again some day). But, I did one complete Barbie head and finished a second in one day...not sure of the amount of time. But with my starting method I had already worked on this doll several different days and easily had 1/3 of her head to go.

I purchased the hair on Amazon. I live in an area where doll making/customizing/repairing must not be much of a thing, so the craft/sewing stores had nothing. I just took a chance on some inexpensive synthetic hair and hoped for the best since I’m just learning. I would probably look for a different hair for the PJ doll I want to re-root, but also wouldn’t mind this for some other Barbies. I’ve also used this hair to make a Barbie wig.

Here is a video containing a small clip of me going over my hair that I found from two weeks ago.
My hair has a red tint to it currently, and is lighter on top than bottom and the red shows more on top as well. I plan on braiding the extensions or curling them in, so I just want to make sure they blend well.

There's the link for the extensions! Thank you!

For the long hair you could just use clip-on hair extensions to the hair on the back of your head. Something like this is pretty cheap though not very long.

I dunno about the pants and big ol' belt. Maybe a weight belt like this one on backwards and above some harem pants.

You might also reference these pictures 1 & 2 to do the blue warpaint and for a good visual on the wedding belt.

Looks easy enough to me.

Slightly blown out yet still textured hair.

Cornrow or flat twist as a center part.

Looks like her hair is either in a half up half down ponytail or the double pony for fullness

The rings can be bought at most beauty supply stores, add to center braid or twist.

Voilà!

Edit: hair rings on Amazon

I've done micro ring hair extensions myself before and it turned out well. I'm going to do it again in couple of days, I'll post a photo here to see how it turns out and you can decide if it's worth it. I get the seamless hair extensions from foxy locks (£150, the superior set so I have loads left over), and cut the extensions small enough to fit into a microring beads ( https://www.amazon.co.uk/Silicone-Micro-Rings-Beads-Extensions/dp/B008GHVBEI ) and super glue the top so the hairs don't fall out.

Pros: It save A LOT of money. To get micro rings done by a professional, it'd cost me £500. I also have some left over, or can buy a volumiser from foxy locks (just an additional £50) when I need to top them up.

Cons: It takes a long time. Make sure you free up your day, because it took me at least 4 or 5 hours.. And it is a lot of up keep. Also make sure you google how to do micro ring extensions on youtube and don't put them in too close to your scalp. Once you get the hair extension in, make sure you can comfortably move it around. If it hurts when you move it, then it's too close and needs to be put in further away.

So if you want hair extensions by a professional, it costs a lot but takes less time of course. Doing it yourself is possible and saves me £350, but it's a lot of up keep, annoying and time consuming.

I found these on Amazon and they were phenomenal...even my hair stylist was impressed. Just us here tone and trim them a bit so they matched perfectly.

I'm going for the same feel this year, and decided to go as Abby from NCIS. If you don't know the show, she's a cute, sexy and smart gothic forensic scientist. Aside from gothic clothes, I just needed to get a hold of a lab coat and some bangs from amazon.

They make a clip on bang extension you could try. Maybe look on amazon. HAIQUAN Natural Real Human Hair Flat Bangs/Fringe Hand Tied Bangs Fashion Clip-in Hair Extension (Flat Bangs with Temples, Natural Black) https://www.amazon.com/dp/B071VW3KLZ/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_1HU5BbKSEHNS2

I got this super cute [wig] (https://imgur.com/a/3DowS) for super cheap on [Amazon] (https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00LP3VRQM/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_.SylybX25N9RG) it's super soft, doesn't shed, looks real, and hasn't tangled yet (I've had it for 2 months)

u/cecikierk · 5 pointsr/Wigs

Updos are tricky with wigs unless you want to shell out money for full lace wigs. When I do Victorian hair for historical costuming I would tie my existing up into a tiny bun, then put on a ear to ear front lace piece like this to hide my scalp and finally clip in a fancy bun (similar to this but I made mine with real hair wefts). It's a lot lighter and more comfortable than wearing a full wig, not to mention it's way cheaper. If you don't have bald spots then you probably don't even need the lace front piece because hair stylists can make the top of your hair look quite full.

I want my long hair back, too :(

This has been my temporary solution for the last year in the meantime. I purchase mine from Dirty Looks, but these ones are a cheaper solution and still do the trick.

Additionally, I've been taking Biotin and Folic Acid daily and using Lee Stafford's hair growth treatment in between shampoo and conditioning (just keep it in while you shave, wash your face, etc.) I then use Redken's anti snap conditioner.

Keep blow drying and straightening to a minimum if possible. My hair is insanely frizzy and curly so I'll comb it straight when it's wet and then put a beanie on to keep it from going too crazy.

All this has been working surprisingly well. I'm getting close to not needing extensions anymore!

u/QuidAegisTS · 5 pointsr/Weddingsunder10k

These!

I already have like 2 friends buying more!

u/Atojiso · 3 pointsr/TrollXChromosomes

Psst... clip-in bangs exist! Also those little clip in haircolour dealies are great for variety.

(Just had these particular ones on my Amazon wishlist, there's lots more if you google around.)

u/Samantha_I_Am · 5 pointsr/weddingplanning

Not at all! I was definitely wearing extensions. My hair is already just under that length, so it was more for volume. Highly recommend! These are the ones I used.
