Thanks. If you want to save $2,000 scrap the whole plan and start over with completely new parts selection. If you're trying to cut costs, a good idea is to start small. By all means, get high quality expensive speakers up front, but wait to buy surround and Atmos speakers until another time when you have more money saved. Build it over the course of a year or two instead of all at once.

1. That projector is not true 4K. It is a 1080p projector that somehow magically upscales to 4K. Also the reviews are not stunning. Save your money and buy a good quality 1080p projector for under $1,000. You can always upgrade to 4k down the road.
   
   
2. $1,000 for a white projector screen!?! Either buy the one I suggested above earlier, or DIY.
   
   
3. The receiver is pretty expensive for what you're getting. Although it's not uncommon to spend ~$500 for a receiver, for a good 7 channel unit you should buy the one I recommended above. It has high praise in this sub and has alot of similar features the Yamaha has.
   
   
4. Shop around for speakers. Read and watch reviews. A good pair of bookshelf speakers can have great sound quality that rivals tower speakers. If you are set on buying a pair of tower speakers, continue shopping around for other brands. Don't settle on Klipsch if you're trying to save money. You are paying alot for the brand name. Klipsch is NOT a bad brand, however there is a big tax that comes with the logo.
   If you are dead set on the Klipsch brand, consider getting cheaper surround and Atmos speakers. Your front 3 speakers are very important, but the rest do not need to be brand-matched and are there simply for affect. They don't need to be expensive for you to have an awesome surround sound movie watching experience. Please do not spend nearly $700 on surround speakers if you are trying to save money. For god's sake, they're more expensive than your fronts! - that's just wrong.
   
   
5. Finally, the subwoofer. I guess I don't have any problems with that choice. Here's another option if you're interested

This is going to be a way better setup in my opinion. Now the reasoning behind why I chose this all.

Screen: Do you really want 135"? you will distort the picture more and it will not be as clear. The reason why i chose a grey screen is because of the windows behind your screen location. The grey will not reflect as much natural light giving you a better picture IMO.

Projector: Personal favorite, If you would like the Epson has good quality as well I physically have not seen it though.

Receiver: This receiver is going to preform way better with the speakers I have picked out. Denon specializes in movie like sound giving better lows and a cleaner sound in all.

Center, Front, Rear Speakers: The reason I chose Definitive Technology is because they have great sound quality and are meant for a more movie like atmosphere. The fronts I have picked out are their small tower speakers, If you want to step up you can do the 8040's which are a little larger or the 8060's which will probably be the largest I would recommend for your home theater location.

Speaker mounts, If you want to mount the rear speakers, those will work with the rear speakers.

Subwoofer: Now the reason why I say optional on this is because the tower speakers have two sub-woofers built into each. And they are fairly noticeable with the lows. If you want more lows I recommended a subwoofer up there for you.

I hope you enjoy the system I picked out, and it is right in the middle of your price range as well leaving you room for speaker wire and other things. If you want to physically hear these go to any Best Buy Magnolia store and just ask them, they should be set up at all locations.

Sounds like the 305's would fit the bill then, you may have to hang them, but for the dollar they are very good.

Er, the tweeters on the LSR's are very good, Im not sure if you are confusing the waveguide tops on the speakers with a traditional dome tweeter. Both serve the same purpose, but the waveguide just distributes sound better than domes do at this pricepoint.

The only thing you may want with these speakers is a separate subwoofer. If you want to get one, it'll be a tight fit in the $600CDN you have to spend on the audio stuff.

OK. You have several speaker options:

• KEF Q100 (on sale right now for $300): I got them recently and they are very clear and detailed. I listen to electronic music primarily and these definitely need a subwoofer to get a full sound, especially if you said that you like bass. These speakers can be used for near field as well as far field listening, have a neutral frequency response, sound crisp and a little on the bright side. I have paired them with a warm sounding [Harman Kardon receiver] (http://www.harmankardon.com/audio-video-receivers/AVR+1510S_.html), which I got for $140 (factory refurbished) from New Egg's recent flash sale and comes with original warranty. This one does not have bluetooth.
  
  
• Wharfedale Diamond 10.1 ($249): These speakers are warm sounding with very good clarity.
  
• Dali Zensor 1, ELAC B6 are other options.
  
  You can read all you want about speakers, but you will only really find out if you like their sound when you have had the opportunity to listen to them.
  
  I would echo the reply by u/BeardedAlbatross and also suggest the same bluetooth enabled 5.1 receiver, which can be used to listen to stereo music quite nicely. I like the Harman Kardon sound, so that's what I use. Denon, Marantz are very good. Does your laptop have optical output? You can also use HDMI out if your laptop can output audio through it. Otherwise, just use bluetooth.
  
  Speakers and receiver both will be around $500-600. So, you will have to stretch your budget by $100 to get an entry level subwoofer. The method you choose to get the signal into the sub depends on the sub and the inputs that is has. If you want a good budget sub I would look at these. They all have RCA inputs and speaker level in and outs so you're wiring will be easy.

1. Dayton Sub 1000 $120 - Great entry level all around sub. It's good for music and movies but won't reach super deep. It's a compromise of price, size, and performance.
   
   
2. Dayton Sub 800 $100 The little brother of the one above. Great for music and adequate for small room HT use just don't expect the lowest stuff to come though.
   
   
3. Monoprice 12" $140 - This is a larger sub but will go lower than the above two. If you're a fan of large bass, rap, or EDM you might want to go wtih this one. This guy will also work for HT use.
   
   If you go with a split signal you need to control the volume with the source once you get the sub level matched to the amp. If you use speaker level inputs the amp can also control the volume of the sub once you get it level matched. I think I would go with the speaker wire inputs as I like having that ability to control both with the amp but that's just me.
   
   Keep in mind to that you will also have to set the xover on the sub to a level that blends it well with your mains. It's a pretty easy process and should only take a few minutes.

For your situation I would recommend a smaller, decent quality sub. It will be good for music (which doesn't see a lot of action below 40Hz) and add sufficient bottom end to enhance movies over lessor speakers (but true SUB junkies may sneer). And you can use bookshelf speakers without worrying about missing the lower notes. I think an 8" model would be ideal.

Apparently, I haven't shopped for an inexpensive 8" sub in a while, and all my go-to items are now discontinued or replaced, but I'll list them anyway as they have some limited availability new, or on the used market. (Prices are USD.)

The HSU STF-1 (used as they no longer seem to be made) might be good. (The $400 VTF-1 seems like overkill in your situation.)

You can sometimes get good deals on the $200 Martin Logan Dynamo 300, which is pretty nice, my son has one, we picked up for not much over $100.

And a lot of folks appreciated the Pioneer SW-8. (Discontinued - now the $160 SW-8Mk2, which can frequently be had for < $120.)

*Edit: Don't feel compelled to match the manufacturer of the sub to the rest of your speakers. There have been a number of good budget subs out there, and all will work well with the Wharfedales, not just a Wharfedale sub.

I have SVS PC2000, I love them. They are expensive, but I have listened to The PB1000 as well which is wonderful.

HSU and SVS are my favorite sub brands, and to get one around 250 or lower, you would have to find a used one of their entry models, but they are both super reliable brands.

Bic and Dayton both make solid starter subs that don't go super low, but they are nice bang for the buck. Definitely better than the Polk. Listen to them if you can, though. I know SVS let's you audition, and HSU lets you audition if you are near Orange county, CA.

Good enough for me, especially for the price. Plenty loud enough for the bedroom, even the media room. Sounds good with music and movies/tv. Mounting brackets on the back of the satellites make it easy to hang on a screw on the wall if that's something you would do.

In my media room I have these bookshelfs for left/right/rear left/rear right, and then the center, and the two satellites for surround left/right. All hooked up to this guy with two of these thrown in because fuck the neighbors lol. I live in the country so no worries.

I thought about upgrading the center (since it does a good bit of the work), but when I mention it to my gf or friends they look at me like I'm full retard. So I guess it's plenty loud enough lol. My media room is definitely louder or as loud as any theater I've ever been to. I know it's far, far from the best sound but I personally am very happy with my setups.

I can't speak to the headphones, but it looks like you already have a pretty nice system, so replacing anything in the $500 price range is probably going to be an incrimental improvement or a matter of taste. I'm assuming you are interested in music listening and not in adding speakers to go toward a home theater set up, so I would add a subwoofer to fill in the low end and take some strain off woofer and your amp. If your priority is music, I would go with a sealed sub, but a ported will give you much greater output, but take up more space in your room. It looks like SVS sells via amazon, so hopefully, you get their whole customer bill of rights even if you don't order from them. Also, of course what sub you get depends largely on your room and preferences, but for whatever its worth the Merlin tool on SVS's website, matches your speakers with the SB200 or PB2000.

Total audio newbie, I currently use a Logitech Z263 but it's not loud enough and I want a more powerful sub, looking to spend $400-500. I can't find any desktop packages that seem to be a large improvement over what I have already. First of all, you're wasting a lot of money on electronics. Speakers make sound and speakers are what you should spend money on. Electronics merely have to drive the speakers and as soon as they're capable of doing that, they can't provide a very tangible ulterior benefit.

I'll give you two alternatives; the first one covers the whole frequency range, but requires more real estate and a bit of tinkering:

• Two standmount speakers such as the KEF R300s or Monitor Audio Gold 100s
  
• A capable 5.2 receiver with room correction for proper bass management such as this, which includes support for networking services including chromecast
  
• Two SVS SB-2000 subwoofers
  
  the second sacrifices the subwoofers for simplicity and is intended if you don't listen to music that reaches into the lowest sub-bass frequencies (while still being perfectly capable of hitting very low notes, pretty much the whole range of most music):
  
  
• A pair of Magneplanar 1.7is
  
• A Yamaha A-S501 amplifier (although you could always get the aforementioned 5.2 receiver gearing for an eventual subwoofer addition, which I recommend)
  
  To conclude, Maggies with a pair subwoofers would be my favourite setup. It is a bit over your current budget but there's always time for additions: you can get one sub in a while, then a second later on. If you don't get a multichannel receiver now, you need an external active crossover then, possibly with DSP, which will eventually bring the total cost above that of the more costly receiver.
  
  Granted, these are my preferences and you should go out and listen before making a purchase.

You did ask for monitors then complain about monitors being flat? That is the point of them :)

You can of course go with other speakers as well but they aren't powered. Unless of course you use a nice set of 2.1 computer speakers. Monitors really aren't necessary for a DJ and without an (expensive) sub to pair with them they can be arguably worse for DJing than a decent 2.1 computer system. Flat response isn't necessary for DJing - remember you wont get any flat response in a club so why at home?

I DJ at home with a high end set of Altec Lansing PC speakers that have been converted to 2.1 (removed center/rear channels and used this adapter. Computer speakers can be the best 'bang for the buck' if you don't have an old home theater amplifier or something to power unpowered speakers.

If you do have an amplifier (even an old home stereo/theater amp) you can go with something like these BIC America RTR-1530 for $125 each, which are 3 way and with a 15" cone will provide quite significant bass even without a subwoofer. They do have a matching sub too for $210. These speakers will perform admirably at home or on the go - although passive powered speakers are a hassle for moving around and setup.

I'm not very well versed on audio outlets from the Netherlands, but it does look like the Klipsch SW115 subwoofer is available on Amazon.de for only €318.00 link. That's a crazy deal considering the same model is currently being sold for $800USD in the states. Link. You really won't find anything else that comes anywhere close for only €318.

My personal recommendation would be to buy the receiver + sub immediately and then replace your main speakers as you can but you can honestly do much better than Polk with your budget.

I have gone out of my way on several installs to place small but clean subwoofers intersecting with just the center channel. You don't know what your missing until you hear a center channel setup that can hit the real low tones. (Gunshots on-screen, Explosions on-screen, Barry White on-screen)

Fronts are essentially effects and music. Speaking is rarely heard except for some reverb in church scenes and off screen yelling. Put your money in a robust center and enjoy its mono goodness.

So basically. I start to get into high-end audio, I was originally going to get a Micca OriGain and RB42's with Dayton SUB-800 (Was waiting for restock). Then I find a bunch of nice stuff in my mom's garage (Onkyo TX-NR609 and an RCA-RTD3133 (speakers and sub only)). Now I have/setting up a 7.1 Surround Sound System. I want to add some Micaa RB42's as my front L/R speakers, Micca RB42-C as my center channel speaker, and the remaining 4 RCA speakers as my surround speaker L/R and back speaker L/R (I will upgrade the RCA speakers over time to nicer ones), using these speaker stands. Here are some of my questions/problems

1. Is this the right setup microphone for my receiver? and, will it smooth out all the different speakers?
   
2. My receiver is plugged into my PC through HDMI, so will it use my PC's DAC or my receivers? Also, a 3rd monitor shows up when I plug in my receiver (I have 2 monitors), is this normal?
   
3. Which subwoofer? Dayton Audio Sub-800 or Monoprice 12" 150W. The room is only 14x12ft, so Is a larger subwoofer even necessary? Also, I don't really want to spend more than $150 on a subwoofer.
   
4. On page 6 of the Onkyo RX-NR609's manual, it says • 100 Watts/Channel @ 8 ohms (FTC) • 160 Watts/Channel @ 6 ohms (IEC) • 175 Watts/Channel @ 6 ohms (JEITA). What does all this mean, is there a way to switch the ohms or wattage? because my RTD3133 speakers say 6 Ω on the back. I already have 2 RTD3133 connected to the TX-NR609 and everything is working fine, but I don't want to blow the speakers out (will the setup microphone set the wattage and ohms to each speaker accordingly?)
   
5. What banana plugs and cables do you guys recommend?

Okay ouch two speakers and a sub is a tight budget, but I know just the stuff.

Fluance Signature Series. Front ported, so you can put them up against a wall or whatever. Placement doesn't matter as much as something with a rear port.

Elac subwoofer. If you haven't been researching speakers, there's a good chance you've never heard of elac, or Andrew Jones. If you know your stuff about speakers, you'll know Andrew Jones. He's basically the rock star of the speaker designing world.

That will be a very good $300 setup.

Any way you slice it, $400 for this soundbar with Android TV built-in is a terrible deal.

My biggest problem with this soundbar is that you will be relying on JBL for software updates. This is a company with zero track record for software development and support. Until they can prove they are competent at this, it is a nonstarter for me.

The second thing is that the price simply does not justify the convenience of having an Android TV box built into the soundbar. If it was $100-200, I would understand. But at $400, the competition and alternatives are way too fierce.

If I am being generous, I would say this soundbar is on par with the Yamaha YAS-108. I seriously doubt it though. I'll give them the benefit though. This is a $200 soundbar.
A Mi Box S is $60. This bring the total value of having two separate items to $260. Is it really worth the $140 price difference to have them built into a single item?

Another alternative for $400 would be to start a proper home stereo audio setup. Once again, $60 for a Mi Box and $340 for audio equipment. You can buy a cheap amp, a couple of bookshelf speakers, and a subwoofer for that price. That would be the beginning of your very own home theater setup:

I'm looking to pick up a sub for my PC audio setup. Currently I've got an SMSL AD18 with a pair of Q Acoustics 3010 bookshelf speakers. I use it primarily for music, with games as a secondary usage with movies and tv in a distant third.

I wouldn't mind buying a used subwoofer from ebay, but i don't see any good offers there either (looked for SVS, XTZ, Canton).
The klipsch r-10 is 225€ and the r-12 is just shy of 300€ and they have a ton of positive amazon reviews.
Considering that 300€ can get you a 12 inch driver from klipsch vs an 8 inch driver from canton it seems like the klipsch is a much better deal to me...

I have this Definitive Technology ProSub 800 (CDN$ 325.66). It's awesome. It goes all the way down to 20hz, sounds great, AND has a built in high pas filter that's set @ 80hz when you use the speaker level in/outs. It's pretty small too. Mine is currently on the floor under a coffee table. 40.1 x 26.4 x 32.8 cm

EDIT: if $300-500 is your budget then you are in for a treat when you get some actual speakers up an running. For a ~$300 budget I recommend getting the Pioneer SP-BS41-LR bookshelf speakers, Onkyo TX-8255 receiver, and if you want more bass you could get the Pioneer SW-8. I suggest monoprice.com for speaker cables and such.

But this is a new set-up. For more bang for your buck though you should definitely go vintage. It's just a lot more complicated and more time consuming trying to find the right equipment at the right price in a good condition.

The Yamaha 10” box sub works great with some klipsch promedia ultra satellites I have going to a receiver, instead of the original klipsch with system amp. Sounds great.

I have this subwoofer for my home theatre setup its way under $500 and it is awesome its a great addition to my difinitive speakers

At any given price point Hsu and rythmik will usually offer the very best cost/performance ratios. Also, the Klipsch 15 (https://www.amazon.com/Klipsch-R-115SW-Subwoofer/dp/B00NT3TANI ) can be found at $499 oaccasionally, that is a very good value too. Svs doesn't even come close to providing the same performance as hsu/rythmik. The $850 hsu vtf-3 would perform similar to the $1900 pb4000 for example.

1)the upgrade would be very audible. Not only with movie sound effects---sounding much deeper and more powerful---but just overall accuracy and sound quality too.

2)It is easiest to integrate two identical subs but two different models can also work well. In this case, however, using the polk 505 with the rythmik or hsu...it will likely do more harm than good(destructive cancellations).

2. You want a subwoofer. This one looks okay, but I don't recognize a lot of your brands - presumably there's JBL and Infinity somewhere?
   
3. Ideally, swap the SMSL for something with a proper high pass - any old 5.1 receiver will do. Cutting the bass out of the main speakers does wonders for distortion, especially if you're playing a lot of bass - let the sub take care of all that.

I have the Acoustic Audio PSW-8 as my subwoofer.

Its actually quite easy as there is a red/white line in on the subwoofer and all you do is directly connect that to the back of the one A2+ that has all the connections and it will sync. I'm away from my setup at the moment so can't add any pictures to show.

I also have the Audio Engine D1 DAC/Headphone Amp which really helps with controlling the volume of both the speakers and the subwoofer. I plug my headphones into the headphone port on it so I don't have to change the audio output on my computer when I want to use them. It help makes the whole setup a bit more seamless in my opinion.

Yes I would be building a cabinet, and well my brother bought this Subwoofer and although it sounds nice, it does not have nearly the chest thumping bass I was looking for. I had two three-way units that had nearly the same feel, just didn't shake the house as much.

Could this have been because of the down-firing and small box?

I figured I could get a lower wattage amp with the pro-woofer and get better sound due to a 10 decibel higher sensitivity.

Why not towers? because I was going to say something like the dayton MK442T and the Matching center and you could get a more expensive sub, or even 2 less expensive subs. Sometimes when you add stands to the mix you might as well have gotten some towers. You could also get one of the Polk TSI xxx bundles from amazon that are within your budget as stated below. or the fluance signatures, and the JBL Studio's And also save more towards the sub(s) Don't get a polk sub unless its one of the HTS one's.

I'd be pretty much solely using it on pc, but I wouldn't see how pc to phone would make much difference since they both have a headphone jack.

Also yeah I'd get a subwoofer then, do you normally buy one or two of them? I was assuming two, but I saw They sell them individually so I thought I'd ask.

   I don't have direct experience with any of these subs, just going by reviews. Despite the small driver size, the 6" (!) Earthquake sub apparently puts out some really deep bass. For a smaller room it should be perfect.

The speakers are 2 sets of Arion Legacy AR506-BK. I daisy-chained in those stouter speakers for more pronounced highs. On the bottom, although you can't really see it in any of the pictures, I have a BIC America RTR-EV1200 475W Subwoofer.

For what it is going to cost you to get this working, you can get a powered sub that will do a MUCH better job... I went with the Monoprice 9723 myself, mainly because it seems to be a decent sub for the cost compared to anything else in that price range. I plan to go to a SVS 1000 or 2000 eventually, but I have to save up a bit for that upgrade.

Thanks for the input. Just curious though (note: i don't know too much about any of this)...how would a 10" 300 watt sub (PB1000) have more output than a 12" 300 watt sub (SB-1000)? The only thing I'm thinking is that you meant the PB2000?

does your current setup support dual subs? If so, the cheapest option is to buy a second ARS300, if you can find a decent used one. that might not be easy to do though. In that case, you can look at stepping up to a 15" sub. about as cheap as I'd go is the Klipsch Reference R-115SW. it's got a 500W amp, so you should notice some improvement, however also note it is forward-firing, unlike your downward firing ARS300. not sure if this will make a difference in your room.

EDIT - I just looked at the spec sheet, evidently it only has a 400W amp. You should still hear noticeable improvement.

it's not over killing the sound it's getting better sound quality, good doesn't equal loud. Just saying those speakers you're looking at aren't special and your budget could get you far better speakers in terms of quality. For example

Something like this - look on the back where it has "line in" and "line out". You'd have source > line in, then another cable going line out > line in on your speakers. It allows the signal to pass through the subwoofer while it plays the low end.

There are workarounds depending on the subwoofer and the connections it will have. You could in some cases split the connection but since each has their own volume knob controlling the volume can get kind of complicated. Adding a line level volume controller before it goes to the sub would be simple and cheap, but you'd just have a lot of wire involved.

I have the BIC's RtR twin. Same manufacturer with minor differences: side instead of rear-ported, and has a red speaker. It's a few dollars cheaper for some reason.

I haven't listened to the Klipsch for comparison, but I can offer a subjective: I love my sub. The specs say the BIC/RtR has a slightly lower end (25 vs 29), FWIW. I don't think you'd be disappointed.

A real problem is that that system only goes down to 35 hz. A true HT subwoofer should get down into the 20s.

It apparently goes down to 26 hz, which is a bit more reasonable. a bigger sub (12") like the Outlaw Ultra-X12 or the SVS SB2000 can get down into the teens.

A low frequency response is what makes a subwoofer a subwoofer, and not just a speaker with a low-pass filter.

i've got a 1 year old kiddo so a front facing sub scares me. would the bic v1220 be a good alternative or would you suggest a different down firing sub under 250-ish?

Email SVS directly and tell them who the vendor is, and see if they are an affiliate of SVS or not. SVS has great customer service and can tell you whether or not they'll honor the warranty.
