If you can time it right and catch the 795 on sale, you can save a decent bit of money. I hadn't seen them on sale, so I bought my fiancee a 795 and spent about $175 on it. I recently got the tech sights for both her rifle and mine. For an appleseed event, you'll want two ten round magazines. Since they are hard to find in a brick and mortar location and I was going to be paying shipping anyway, I ordered two 10 rounders in addition to the one the rifle came with.

Costs as follows:

That total does not include shipping charges, nor does it include any further equipment costs such as:

• Eye protection (I splurged and got my lady the Smith Ageis Arc because I like her eyes and it looks like they rated very well for the price in The Lucky Gunner Eye Pro Breakdown. Fortunately, I have some older glasses that offer sufficient protection but I will be buying myself some newer eye protection before we do our appleseed event at the end of the month.),
  
• Ear protection (you'll want to double up and get plugs of some sort and muffs, especially if you're shooting at an indoor range at times. I got us the Howard Leight Impact Sport electronic muffs which are pretty highly recommended) or,
  
• Ammo (if you can find 22lr at a reasonable price)
  
  You can go less expensive on the ear an eye protection. The first few times I took my lady shooting, we had good ear plugs and less expensive eye protection (at an outdoor range) and I saved up for a while to get the better stuff.
  
  I feel like it was worth it to get the extra stuff and rifle so that we can attend the appleseed event together. Much of the value in it, I think, comes from all the range time you get. If One of us were to go without the other then try to teach the other, it would probably take significantly longer to teach the second person unless you later dedicated an entire weekend to shooting. I think it's better to knock it out in on weekend, rather than spread out over weeks or months. You two can develop together as shooters.
  
  As I've been educating my fiancee and guiding her into being comfortable with guns, this is something I've given a good bit of thought to, and something I had and have been saving for for a few months. Buying shooting gear can be a large-ish initial outlay, but the headphones, eye protection, and firearms acquired are something that will serve us well for many years to come, so that is something to bear in mind as you weight the options, buy initial gear, and possibly later acquire replacement gear of higher quality.
  
  

I bought these [Safety Glasses](ESS Eyewear Crosshair One Kit, Black https://www.amazon.com/dp/B009KRDZE2/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_Xb4HxbMYXAQXM) then I customized them by masking the clear area off and lightly sanding the rest of the glasses.

They turned out really great, comfortable to wear for hours ant a time. The sell replacement lenses like sunglasses that you could switch out. The lens swap takes about 30 seconds to do so not a huge hassle.

The arms are really thin and fit well under my headset as well.

This is a great option that beats most pairs I've tried. So go grab a $2 pair of safety glasses some masking tape and sandpaper to custom fit a pair.

I sat in the plane and marked a line even with the top of the instrument panel, then marked the sides so I couldn't see out of the plane. So the result is a custom pair that fit my eyes and the plane that I fly, C172.

Radians Adrenaline aluminum frame, smoke tinted safety glasses.

You know those Remington shooting glasses you can get? Radians is the company that actually makes those. For a few bucks more, you get a set of awesome looking (aluminum), very comfortable (lightweight and rubber where it contacts you), a great value (the come with a strap and a nice hard case), and - most importantly - safe (ANSI Z87.1 +).

They work great indoors and outdoors with the slight smoke tinting.

If you are spending $10 (possibly plus shipping) anyway, might I recommend a pair that runs $80 that's on sale for $18? The Smith Optics Aegis Arc is on crazy sale right now on Amazon through Botach. I have gotten two pairs and I'm about to order a third. The Smith Optics are not only Z87.1 certified but they are US MIL-PRF-31013 certified for use by frontline troops. $18 gets you a clear lens, a sunglasses lens and a stupid nice case.

Goggles, glasses, or even cheapo safety glasses are a must, but snowboarding helmets are not designed for the type of impact you're likely to see if you fall off a bike. Stick with a regular bike helmet, but wear a waterproof plastic outer layer (like the pants/jacket set you can get at walmart). You don't need too much more insulation, since your own body heat will keep you warm. As long as your commute is less than 10 miles, you don't need to worry about breathability since presumably you're commuting to a heated space, and any sweat will dry off. The only winter biking gear that's really worth spending additional money on is good, waterproof gloves and a thin balaclava to sit under the helmet.

Actually I prefer the yellow lenses for nightriding, but they give you 5 lenses for various conditions including clear ones. Nail polish remover took care of the silk screened duck logos on the frame and lenses, so no worries on that. I don't ride without them anymore.

3m Tekk is often in the $8-$11 range (not to be confused with the $3 super uncomfortable crap one) and is rated for impact and chemsplash, as well as the similar Dewalt.

Something like these, these, or these should suffice as long as you're using a face shield too. A lot of injury reports are from debris going under safety glasses.

By using a shield or guard, "full wrap" goggles (not just glasses, like I use for using the miter/table saw), and a face shield, I think I should be pretty safe.

Edit: You want to look for ANSI Z87 rated goggles, that's the OSHA specification. You could also use a face shield and something with military standard rating like these which meets MIL-PRF-31013 and ANSI Z87 specifications.

Be sure to get eyewear that is not just ANSI rated, but MIL-SPEC rated. Numerous tests have shown that the kind of impacts you might receive can still be injurious with ANSI protection (such as the entire unbroken lens being forced into the eye). As /u/Ferrard said, the ESS Crossbow glasses are the closest you can get that ARE PROPERLY RATED. They meet MIL-PRF-31013 (shot with a 0.15 caliber, 5.8grain, chisel tip steel projectile going at 640-660FPS, which equates to about 7.1Joules) which is above and beyond what is required of airsoft (and here's a video showing a set being tested). The gasket kit works like advertised (makes it full seal) but if you're prone to fogging goggles you'll probably fog them as well. However they don't really fit into your budget coming in at $41. Plus you'd have to buy the gasket kit on top of that. I wouldn't ever skimp out on eye protection though. You only get one set of eyes!

If you still want glasses style goggles that are properly rated, check out the Pyramex I-Force goggles. Cheap (coming in at $20) and effective.

Most protective eyewear have thick frames that cut into your ears with ear pro on top. These have super thin frames and lens quality like Oakley for only $60.

These are actually really great bc they have thing frames so it doesn’t break the seal on your ear muffs

Once you have your prescription nailed down, you can order a safety frame with impact rated lenses. They're going to be thicker and heavier than most other glasses, but that's to be expected. There's also the cheaper option of over-the-glasses eyepro with something like this

Yep. Here's one of the options that works well for me.

So this is a Smith and Wesson Model 27, made in 1960 (per the serial number), .357 Magnum (also .38 special). I received it as a gift and it is my first gun ever! Super stoked to own it now, and I'll probably join the prolonged slide of gun ownership that I see in this sub time to time. My next purchase is likely a smaller concealed carry weapon.

The giant ammo tin is vintage, I'm guessing vietnam era, but no idea, I could be full of shit. It's stacked with hundreds of .357 FMJs. 1 box of .357 hollow points, and 2 boxes of Shotshell snake charmers.

ESS crossbow suppressor. thin frames specifically for earpro. I picked up the tombstones for trap/skeet where I use ear plugs not muffs, I have the suppressors for rifle and handgun shooting where I have muffs. ESS is owned by Oakley so they're decently built.
