Top Reddit comments about Lag Screws:

  • Metal locking cabinet

  • Stud Finder

  • Some lag screws with washers

Use the stud finder to locate a stud in your wall (closets can be a good place), mark it above the top of the safe. Take your safe, find the holes in the back (or drill some) Mark the top of the safe in line with the holes in the back. Line up both marks, getting the safe as close to the wall as possible (you might need to put it up on some plywood if there is a kicker board). Drive the bolts into the stud anchoring it in place.

This is easy to remove and patching 4 or 5 screw holes in drywall is something that most apartment dwellers will be doing anyway.

I have some experience with this.

  1. Get a good stud finder. Most won’t work with lathe and plaster. This one does for my house. Your mileage may vary so buy from somewhere with an easy return policy:
    https://www.amazon.com/Franklin-Sensors-FS710PROProSensor-Professional-Finder/dp/B0195K8OT4/ref=sr_1_4?ie=UTF8&qid=1519272814&sr=8-4&keywords=ProSensor%2B710&th=1

    (Sometimes available at Costco)

  2. Get a mounting bracket than will span between two studs.

  3. Buy good lag screws (not too thick as your tv isn’t that heavy) vs. the typically crappy ones that come with the bracket. Something that looks like this (not necessarily these exactly):
    https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B074ZMZMT9/ref=s9_acsd_top_hd_bw_b16qtJ_c_x_2_w?pf_rd_m=ATVPDKIKX0DER&pf_rd_s=merchandised-search-4&pf_rd_r=J14PERT8ZSKA9GRZVC1H&pf_rd_t=101&pf_rd_p=c0cdc314-6aee-50c9-b0bb-83f1e9593841&pf_rd_i=1640962

  4. Mark where the bolts will go on the wall and predrill.

  5. Mount the bracket using the screws but don’t overtighten as that will crack the plaster.

    Good luck.

I bought these and had them shipped to a receiver state side. 50 might be too many, but I imagine you can find others in your local community to go in on, or gift extras too. They're zinc plated but as others in the thread have said there's ways to clean them up post-playa.

I'd tend towards DIY but you can get wall mounts designed for locks. Google shows lots like: https://www.saris.com/product/bike-tracs https://www.belson.com/Ultra-Space-Saver-Single
https://www.chainreactioncycles.com/us/en/hiplok-airlok-wall-mounted-lock-hanger

And mount to the wall using something like https://www.amazon.com/Hillman-230372-One-Way-Screws-50-Pack/dp/B003VG39Z8/

It isn't going to stop a determined thief but should at least slow them down.

Here is the cheapest route for fastening the wire to your end posts. Aluminum Oval Crimping Sleeve. You'll need a swaging tool to crimp them. The link is the cheapest one I could find.

What you'll do on your end posts is drill two holes per line, vertical of each other (edit: side by side would be stronger, but might not look as nice, your call on this). Make them about 1/2"-1" apart. Feed the cable through one and back through the other and crimp it together. You'll need some help on one end of the railing to make sure you get it really tight before crimping.

The other option is this Atlantis rail stuff that you're probably seen, it's expensive.

Tensioners: These go on only one side of each cable run.

Achors: These go on the other side of each cable run.

You only need 1 tensioner per line.

Good price on these, I used them for our shiftpods last year and I grabbed these after looking at quite a few options and they were great. Hex Lag Screws Hot Dipped Galvanized 3/8"-7 x 12" - Qty-25 https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01AZVZK1M/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_jhM-ybEH4S8MS

I had chain link cut at a hardware store into sections of 2 links for each lag screw (one for the screw and combined with a large washer and one with room for rope). Maybe you already know all of that but someone had posted those details and it worked out nicely for us.

if you want easy get four large lag screws and two links of chain per screw.

then you can use an impact driver to set them and remove them.

You need a stud finder and some lag bolts like these and washers. https://www.amazon.com/Hillman-Group-230095-8-Inch-50-Pack/dp/B000BDB8VQ/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1473567395&sr=8-2&keywords=lag+bolts

Go into a Home Depot and they will set your up. Make sure you are putting them into a stud, drywall does not cut it.

I love this idea and am only a little annoyed that I never thought of it. Even not having used them, I'm betting the 12" would hold plenty...rebar breaks the playa up as you drive it down. If the the lag really "threads" into the playa it should be much less disruptive and so I would think it's hold would be very effective.

With all of that said, here's a link to some 24" lags on Amazon if you wanted to trade 1:1 for your rebar length.

It may not be an electric fence, but those two things are ceramic electric fence insulators

https://www.amazon.com/Zareba-WP6-Corner-Ceramic-Insulator/dp/B001D0YFR0

For that price you can buy 100 plastic ones.

Edit:

https://www.amazon.com/Zareba-Systems-WP1929-Ceramic-Insulator/dp/B01BQASY8C/

not an exact match but yours look more like one with a built in lag screw.
