No, I think the mineral spirits helps remove the wax a little and the wax is blackened. Getting the wax off is hard--there are specific wax remover products you might try to remove it more completely.
Perhaps more exciting, I remembered that there are specialty aluminum cleaners. Maybe try one of them.
