Some dash cams have a small battery in them that allows them to turn on and begin recording when the detect and disturbance. I'm no expert on cams but I've seen plenty of videos of people catching their car being vandalized on dash cam because the cam woke up and began recording.

Best of luck! This type of crap is one of my nightmares.

Someone can chime in if this is the "right" one but, at less than the cost of your deductible can pay for itself pretty quickly.

I have this dash cam and it has served me well, though I haven't had a need for the footage yet. The video quality is solid and it has a lot of features, like GPS, speed overlay, date time stuff, etc.

Thats what i use, i had a blackvue before which was a 400 dollar dash cam that in my opinion works the same as the falcon zero and has very similar quality for 1/4 the price.

I use this dashcam

It turns on and records for a set period of time if it detects an impact. It's pretty sensitive for what determines an impact, sometimes opening and closing my doors will turn it on. It has a battery that charges while you drive. It has a very good day time quality and pretty good night time quality. I'll upload a snippet of both on youtube tonight.

You could put one in the front and then stick one in the back window I suppose for a rear view

I got this one and I really like it:

$99 and you’ll forget it’s there, turns on and off on it’s own when the car turns on. I do recommend getting a bigger better quality SD card though

I'm reasonably pleased with it, but really, a cheaper one would probably work just as well. The GPS sensor is separate and connects by a wire. It's very sensitive to placement and, as you see from this video (speed 0) it doesn't work if you don't put it in a good spot.

I run this one. Cheap, HD, GPS included, Google Map Integration.

I highly recommend the one I use currently, it's a little less than $100 (at least it was when I bought it on Amazon and it is now too) - Falcon zero F170.

I previously had a really cheap one that was hard to use and didn't have very usable footage especially at night. With this one, it's easy and I don't have to mess with it at all. I like that the recording also includes the speed you are going. And it's very crisp and clear footage.

One negative is that you probably should detach the camera if you park outside in the summer sun, as mine will get blazing hot after 8+ hours in the sun, but that would apply to anything sitting in the sun in Texas.

I wouldn't spend less than $70 after my $60 one crapped out. I got the Falcon Zero on a lightning sale. I'm definitely impressed with is so far.
