Newer ones are probably far better. but come on, who didnt have one of these poppers growing up?

Catch-Me-Kitty. I'm usually pretty good about tuning-out some of my daughter's toys. But this one. Its annoying, gets stuck on carpet, and does not have an automatic "I shut off after 5 minutes of not being played with" feature. Honestly, I prefer the Popper over that devil-cat any day.

A diesel engine works more like a Corn Popper Push Toy, and a gasoline engine works more like a Hopper Ball.

Diesels run on what is called, "Detonation", where the fuel explodes by itself under pressure like the little spring in your push toy (that makes the "popping" sound and makes the balls fly). This explosion transmits a lot more sound and pressure through the engine and out the exhaust pipe as well.

A gasoline engine, however, does not run under enough pressure to detonate like a diesel engine. It's more like your hopper ball toy. In order for the ball to jump, you have to jump with your legs. In the engine, there's a little electrical spark that triggers the gasoline to explode. The timing of this can be controlled so that it's not as loud as your popper toy or a diesel, just as you can control the timing of your push on the hopper ball so that your legs don't violently smack the ground.

This? I was thinking the same thing. My kid only loves to use it when I'm on the phone it seems.

So my son turns one on Dec 17 and is going to have a Star Wars themed birthday.. We are going to try and get his birthday presents seperate from his Christmas present but we will see how the money goes. It would be awesome if he could get a bunch of educational and coordination toys.. with some Star Wars ships for his birthday!! Hes also starting to walk so hed love walking stuff!

I listed a few things we were going to try and get him..

These things are the most annoying toy ever invented: Fisher Price Corn Poppers.

My daughter had both of these and they were the inspiration for my long standing hatred of Fisher-Price.

kids love these things. all they do is push it around and it just makes so much noise. Bonus it has no batteries that he can remove.

puzzle

push toy

walkeR and ride on -this was a favorite of my sons for a long, long time, and I've often said it was the best $ I ever spent, that kids loved it so much.

pull toy

If you want to up it, get wooden versions of them. They are learning to walk at that age, so toys that focus on walking are a really big hit.

Something like this would probably be great. The kid should be starting to walk now, so anything to encourage that helps. If you think someone will already be bringing that, you could go for something cute like this, but if you do clothing, try going to a larger size then the kid needs. That way they grow into it, and can use it for longer then a few months. Avoid going for girly colors because the child is female.
