I've ordered it. I've used this at my friend's house on Vive with this chair:

https://www.amazon.com/Openwheeler-Logitech-Thrustmaster-controllers-PlayStation-4/dp/B01CGVG0N6/

...enough to know it's pretty good and does the job for VR driving. I only have PSVR right now so this is kind of for the future but I planned to get it anyway.

That game compelled me to get this: https://imgur.com/gallery/MbBkK

I never even had a steering wheel before this. After getting the seat, steering wheel, pedals, and shifter, I got the amp and two bass shakers to make the seat vibrate. The wheel vibrates a lot on its own. My brain barely realizes it's not in a car. Of course, it's not feeling any inertia because the seat doesn't move. I'm not motivated enough to buy something that expensive.

Update: Here's everything I got in addition to speaker wire:

I have that 3.5mm plug going into the green output on my sound card. The other ends go into the amp like in the pic. The back of the amp has red and black cables. One goes to one shaker, and the other goes to the other shaker (match the colors). Then, connect the bass shakers with one speaker wire from the ends that don't have wires already (this is connecting them in series). In the Steam VR menu, you have to mirror your audio to these to get them to shake in VR. I have to mirror to something called "Speakers" to get them to work. I find that I have to turn the amp up high to get the amount of vibration I want, so I'm not sure if there's something I'm doing wrong. Some people say they don't need it up high.

Right now I just have a Logitech G29, but may upgrade in the future. The cockpit is Openwheeler

I absolutely love having the cockpit where I can just sit down and play and not worry about setting stuff up every time

I was so happy with OW gen2 and customer service, I eventually bought every available accessory. I believe the center-mount bracket is a prototype.

Thanks! It's many years of acquired hardware at this point, but it's such a more immersive and pleasurable experience with it all.

Here's what I have:

Logitech G27 (Newegg link - non-Newegg seller) (I picked mine up at Newegg for $255 in Oct 2011) -- I can't find any new ones that aren't pushing $500+ and the G920 nor the G29 are really great replacements IMO.

OpenWheeler Racing Seat & Frame (Amazon link) (I actually got this free because of saved up credit card points) -- Regularly going for $370-$400

In the actual hardware (not including PC, tablet/phone for PowerGrid or Steam Link/TV), I've only invested ~$260 in this setup. I was unaware that the G27 was discontinued and I'm not even sure what I would replace it with. If you can find one used in decent shape I would highly recommend it though.

As for the seat, I do like how comfortable it is, the backrest moves back and forward like a normal car seat and the base slides forwards and backwards as well. My biggest gripe with it (and not sure if it's changed, but it doesn't appear that it has, the adjustment for the shifter is seriously lacking. I'd like for it to be able to move higher as well as further back, it's really in an awkward position when compared to my actual car, but you do get used to it for the most part. I also wish that the wheel had a "quick release" feature to move it up and down, also like most car adjustable steering wheels, but it doesn't, it's controlled by the tightness of the bolt that keeps it from moving. I haven't found a sweet spot for it to be loose enough to move it out of the way to get in and out while still managing to be tight enough to not move during more intense gaming sessions (I like to turn the force feedback nearly all the way up).

All in all though, it's really a great setup, the hardware may not be the best available, but it's very good and stands on its own without questions.

If you're anywhere near Ohio I just put my cockpit on craigslist for $200. Same as this one here:https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B01CGVG0N6/ref=oh_aui_search_detailpage?ie=UTF8&psc=1 Only been used for 2 months (I just upgraded to a motion rig)

OpenWheeler Gen 2 seat. The company will mail you free add-on brackets to use with Thrustmaster T Flight Hotas 4. Sit like you’re in the cockpit of a fighter jet and you can also use it for racing games.

It's a bit tricky to get a wheel and pedals setup to cooperate well with this game. One of the biggest issues I have with it is that it's only got 180° of wheel rotation. If you're interested in getting setup with a wheel and pedals with VR, you might check out Assetto Corsa, Project CARS 2, Dirt Rally or iRacing. They all have their own learning curve and audience, but my personal choice of setup is the following:

Logitech G920 Racing Wheel with Shifter - $270

This is honestly a bargain in its own right. It was closer to $500 when I bought mine and it was seen as a reasonable price even then.

OpenWheeler Racing Cockpit - $380

I've used this cockpit for over a year now and it's held up well. You can mount a wheel to a desk, but this brings it to a whole new level.

Oculus Rift S - $400

This one is a lot harder to recommend. VR is still in its early stages and I personally own a Rift CV1 (the first consumer version) and love it. My honest recommendation is to get a CV1 used if you're new to it. They go for cheap and I've never had any real complaints, but unless you're ready to pour $1000 into a Valve Index, the Rift S is one of the few other headsets being sold new that actually makes sense.

If you want to ask a whole community and not take my word for it on this stuff, I'd highly recommend /r/simracing. Don't let others' budgets throw you off over there. If you're looking for something entry level, but still a good experience, the setup I mentioned here has served me well in the past couple years.

Honestly I think you'd be better off getting one of the steering wheel and pedal units, more specifically one with steering wheel with paddles (could be used as high/low for older games) clutch, brake, gas pedals (would work for all games), and then one with the gear shifter (would work for more modern/complex driving games). The idea of making your own is awesome, but if you're going to go out of your way to make a racing cabinet you might as well make it for as many games as possible. Hell if you really wanted to get crazy you could even mount something like this to the front of your cab and turn it into a true cockpit racer.....and you could always switch it over to a flight, etc. cab by swapping out the controls as well. https://www.amazon.com/Openwheeler-Logitech-Thrustmaster-controllers-Xbox-One/dp/B01CGVG0N6?th=1

That's the Openwheeler Gen 2.
