I think that'll be a great boat to get started with for calmer water. I mean, as long as it's safe for where you are kayaking, the boat you have is much better than the boat you don't! Plus you can probably sell it towards the purchase of a new boat down the line if you want. The only downside to that boat, is you'll only want to use it when the water is warmer, because since the seat sits pretty low you're more likely to get wet... not a huge deal, just something to consider.
Looks like you should be able to lash a milk crate down behind your seat, and once that's in place you can use zip ties to attach 2-3 sections of PVC to it for rod holders, or use one of these:
