This is the SN700 not the newly released SN750 series for anyone wondering about the price. The SN750 can be found for 144.99 on Amazon.ca here

https://imgur.com/UMIR4HO that right there is the M.2 slot. I labelled it SSD but it might be a NVME slot.

Before you do anything, google your laptop's model and check if it has (m.2 nvme) slot or ( m.2 SSD) slot (this will also be inscribed on the slot itself if you look closely)

Buy one of these of your brand/capacity of choice:

The HDD is perhaps the best bang for the buck HDD out there in the market. However, the SSD seems a little expensive for what it is. Seagate isn't the best company for SSDs. You can find a Samsung 970 Evo 500GB for $10 less and Samsung currently makes the best SSDs in the market. Other options include the Western Digital Black SN750 which you could easily find for the same price as the 970 Evo. If you want a cheaper alternative without sacrificing day-to-day performance, I would recommend the Intel 660p. It's a QLC SSD where there are 4 bits stored in each cell instead of TLC where there are 3 bits stored in each cell. This gives you lower performance but massively cheaper compared to TLC drives. Both the SN750 and 970 Evo are TLC drives therefore are more expensive than the 660p. This drop in performance is not noticeable at all if all you do is gaming, web browsing and the usual stuffs consumers use their laptops for. The Sabrent Rocket is also a great budget option for an NVMe drive. It's a TLC drive which you could find for as low as $70 for the 512 GB model.

Awesome choice!

... but now you should resubmit your order. :) You mention that the cost was prohibitive, but you could save a lot of money by upgrading the RAM and SSD yourself.

When it comes to SSDs, you could get the (faster than whatever Lenovo's shipping) [Samsung 970 Pro] (https://www.amazon.com/Samsung-970-PRO-512GB-MZ-V7P512BW/dp/B07C8Y31G2) for way less than the $200+ US price increase for the 512GB SSD option on Lenovo's site. Or you could get the [970 Evo Plus] (https://www.amazon.com/Samsung-970-EVO-Plus-MZ-V7S1T0B/dp/B07M7Q21N7) for a lot less, the [WD Black SN750] (https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07MH2P5ZD) for even less, etc.

You could also get more for your money. For instance, for less than the price of upgrading from 8GB to 16GB of RAM on the Lenovo site, you could buy an extra 16GB, install it yourself and wind up with 24GB.

(Prices checked are in USD, but the same generally holds on other global sites.)

Hrmmm, maybe for video, but loading and playing games , an nvme has 4x the bandwidth, no seek times, and no damage with vibration, and about 2-10 times the mtbf.

No moving parts means less likely to fail, faster loading, lower energy costs, faster to recover from sleep mode (no spinning up again)...

Hard drives are good for backup but not primary storage with the prices on SSD's dropping like crazy.

https://www.amazon.com/dp/B073SB2MXT/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_awdb_t1_JmxWCbNHATCTY
107$ for storage 1tb

https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07MH2P5ZD/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_awdb_t1_4oxWCbY35HFRK
107$ for boot and gaming 500gb

And I know you don't want to admit that storage doesn't affect frames per second... You're right...
But how many times are you going to die in a game and have to wait at a loading screen? 20-30 seconds? 5 deaths = 100 to 150 seconds of loading screens...

All because you went with an old cheap SATA HDD you're throwing your own time in the garbage.

Look at uptime/useable time and you will see the investment pay out in load times.

sorry, two seperate issues, and you are correct.

I though you linked the older black with the older controller. But what you linked is a guess the SN720 which isnt much different, but either way its literally $2 to get the SN750
https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07MH2P5ZD/ref=psdc_1292116011_t1_B07BR9FV1C

then as the second issue, replace the 1tb spinner with a 2tb spinner.
this is literally $5 more for double the storage:

The SSD you chose connects via SATA. The newest SSDs look like memory cards and connect directly into the motherboard without cables or power. It's a quicker drive and a cleaner look. If you're a Samsung fan, the 970 nvme m.2 drive is fine, but I like the WD Black https://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B07MH2P5ZD/ref=dp_ob_neva_mobile

I already have an SSD, WD BLACK SN750 500GB NVMe Internal Gaming SSD - Gen3 PCIe, M.2 2280, 3D NAND - WDS500G3X0C https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07MH2P5ZD/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apap_9dVmLeB3aDzXE
Im pretty sure it will work

Even before the update loading times were a breeze. This is a nice cheap upgrade that will work wonders. Anthem load times had NOTHING on Destiny load times that could take upwards of 5 minutes on consoles without a SSD

I'm not too NVMe-savvy, but WD-Black is supposedly a great gaming-geared NVMe. Thermals should be the biggest concern with NVMe drives. The Pro Carbon has its own m.2 shield, but I see bad reviews on it. Might want someone with some more knowledge about storage than me to give advice there.
