A few disclaimers:

I know I'm late to the punch, and I apologize. I also know I'm going to look like a crazy person for throwing so many items at you, so I apologize for that as well. I may also seem vaguely arrogant by the end of this, so please accept a third apology. I just like to take care of my electronics is all. My only credentials are anecdotal evidence that despite my rather rough job I've never even so much as cracked the screen on my cell phone so I like to think I'm pretty good at the "how do I prevent breakages" question.

Okay. So, I'm gonna rattle off a few items that I've bought for my own Switch, and my reasoning behind them. You DO NOT have to buy all of these items, but they are all useful on some level for the console.

The Joy-Con Controller If you're looking to get a second controller, start here. I'm sure you've figured out by now that one Joy-Con (JC) can be reconfigured to work as two controllers, so simply by buying a second JC you're now able to hit the 4-player local maximum for many of the Switch's games (including Mario Kart!). You can get the spouse, another kid, or even some friends playing during a party.

The Switch Pro Controller A more traditional-style controller. It's slightly cheaper and it's much more comfortable on large hands, but it CANNOT be split into two separate controllers like the Joy-Con can. Well, unless you get a saw or something but then it won't work at all anymore. Besides that it does function exactly the same as the standard JC controllers. There is also a wired version available that is even cheaper, but I personally have become spoiled in this wireless age and don't like cables dangling across my living room anymore.

Fitian Charging Dock for Joy-Cons Pretty self explanatory. Normally you charge your Joy-Cons by plugging them into the Switch, but if you have a second (or more) JC, it becomes a slight hassle to keep them all charged up. A charging dock can be a godsend. This is the one I use, simply plug it straight into your Switch Dock via USB.

FastSnail Joy-Con Grips There's a gazillion different versions of these things floating around, but these are the ones I personally use. I like them cause the shoulder L/R buttons are massive, and the grippy parts are really comfortable for extended use. Simply stick your Joy-Con halves into the plastic holders for a more comfortable grip. Holds them securely but they're still easy to pop back out as needed, no latches or screws or anything.

Orzly Carry Case ONE option for a carrying case. I was a little hesitant to recommend this particular item, but I may as well cause again, it's the one I use. The case itself is fine: durable, carries your Switch plus some games and accessories, and keeps them safe through your standards drops and bumps. However, if you fill it up as much as is shown in the pictures there on Amazon... At best you're gonna feel like you're mashing something, at worst you're gonna have trouble zipping it closed. What I've ended up doing is putting my Switch with an attached set of JCs, the games, and my adjustable stand (see next item) into the case, and then tossing the case plus whatever other particular accessories I need into my backpack. This case is NOT good to haul a lot of Switch stuff, JUST the console itself plus a handful of small bits for maybe a day trip or something. If you want to carry everything, look elsewhere. I've seen a few cases mentioned, but I can't recommend anything as I haven't tried anything.

Younik Compact Adjustable Stand I love this thing. If you're playing on the go and don't feel like holding it (and don't trust that stupid little kick stand on the back), you can unfold this thing and prop up the Switch on any flat surface for a much more comfortable viewing able. When you're done with it, you can fold it back flat and it fits nicely pretty much anywhere (like, for example, in the Orzly case I mentioned previously). Nintendo makes a first-party adjustable stand, but I actually like this one better. It costs a couple dollars less and feels sturdier. Its a luxury item to be sure, but it's nice to have when you want it.

Findway Protective Case A protective "jacket" for the Switch itself. I like this one because it snaps on and off of the Switch and JCs super easily, and is a sort of bendable plastic. Only 3 pieces: one for the tablet, and then one piece each for the left and right JCs. Easy to clean, too. Only drawback is that you HAVE to remove the jacket any time you want to dock the Switch in its charger. However, you're going to find that this is the case for any jacket that you want to buy for your Switch. You do NOT need to remove the jacket if you're simply sticking it in the aforementioned Adjustable Stand.

Pleson Tempered Glass Screen Protector Not much explanation needed here. I'm neurotic about getting screen protectors for all of my portable electronics, and I love the tempered glass ones. This one is cheap, it's durable, and it's easy to install with a steady hand. HIGHLY, HIGHLY recommend, even if only to keep your Switch looking nice through the wear and tear. You won't need to remove it for the dock, unlike the jacket.

I think that's everything for now. Again, I know it's a lot being thrown at you all at once, but you don't have to buy everything. This is all just stuff I've amassed for my own Switch that I've found useful or that I recommend. Pick and choose as you see fit. Feel free to shop around as well, these are just examples of all the particular items and there are MANY choices available for almost everything listed.

If you have any questions, I'm always happy to help.

I was Xbox forever, started a new job on the road and decided to go for the switch as well for portability. Good choice.

Must Buys Accessories:

Screen protector - there is a 2 pack on amazon:

amFilm Tempered Glass Screen Protector for Nintendo Switch 2017 (2-Pack) https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01N3ASPNV/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_XMpaCbKXMWRXR

SD card (if going digital with games) - maybe go 256gb, amazon has a sale on them, you only need U1 speeds for the switch:

Carrying cases - I have two, one for the whole collection (switch, joycons, dock, charger, hdmi):

AmazonBasics Travel and Storage Case for Nintendo Switch - Black https://www.amazon.com/dp/B072C9BVTW/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_ePpaCbSBT7C1S

And one for the switch in handheld mode. I use both quite frequently:

Pro controller - easier to play games in docked mode than the joycons.

Smash is out next Friday, but it looks like the best game of the year material.

Pokémon Let’s Go is a spin off, remake of yellow version, but it is a great game. Maybe not $60 great for gameplay, but for nostalgia. I’d say a fair price is around $40.

Games suggested:

Must Play Exclusives:

Zelda: BOTW (10/10) little bit of a learning curve, but open world game with 100+ hours of content

Super Mario Odyssey (9.5/10) very laid back and at times almost too easy, but overall very fun and creative. 30 hours of content

—————

Exclusives W/ Friends or Online:

Mario Kart 8 (9/10)

Super Mario Party Switch (8.5/10)

—————

Other Top Tier Exclusives:

Splatoon (8.5/10) (may be stressful online, but awesome game for both online play and “salmon runs”)

Donkey Kong Tropical Freeze (8.5/10) (tough game but such awesome level design, music; this game can become frustrating)

Mario Rabbids (8.5/10) (fun game, again, can become frustrating as it is a strategy, turn based game with Nintendo characters)

Pokémon Let’s Go (8.5/10) (fun game, super nostalgic trip back to the past of Pokémon origins but now in 3D with alolan forms)

We still don’t know about Super Smash Bros Ulitmate, but I can’t imagine it won’t be a 9 or 9.5 out of 10.

Golf story is the next exclusive game I’ll be getting some time down the road, very hit or miss with people however.

Disclaimer: I don’t really get non exclusives on switch, as I can get them on PC for cheap 9/10 times (except red dead). Also, I do not care for JRPG’s, so I can’t comment on Xenoblade, Octopath, Fire Emblem, Monster Hunter etc.

As others have pointed out, indies are great for the Switch, not too demanding to require further CPU or GPU Power to hinder gameplay, but you will pay the “Nintendo tax”. This is that Nintendo hardly has sales on games. But the point of the Switch is gaming on the go, so it’s a good trade off. If that’s not your reasoning, then stick with indies on stronger consoles or PC.

Joycons are not too small, I would pair them with these if you want to use them single player (like Mario kart or Mario party):

When attached to the switch in handheld mode, you can use this to help:

Hey folks, PC gamer here who just got a Switch about two weeks ago. I love it. At first I said, I don't need a case because I will never take this out of the house. Suddenly, I see a lot of value in bringing it with me so we can have short gaming sessions during downtime. I started looking for a case but I can't seem to find anything that really seems to fit my needs. I read through the reddit guide, and scoured Amazon, Target and Best Buy. I would love some help because I am a little picky. I feel like Switch cases are designed for just the Switch, and a few games or every for single accessory. I like the Amazon Basic Vault case but if I were to go with that, how would I best transport the few accessories (Power A stand and joycon lanyards) I care about? I got this case at Target, but it doesn't really work well for me.

Any thoughts? Here is more of what I am looking for:

  1. I am trying to stay all digital, and I see the game flaps as potential annoyances and wastes of space. I also don't need space for the dock, AC adapter, additional joycons, or any other cables.
  2. I got the Power A stand and I really like it. I would like to have a safe place to put it.
  3. I don't care if the joy cons are attached in the case, but I do want to have space for the controller lanyards so we can comfortably play two player.
  4. I prefer hard cases as it will travel in an un-cushioned backpack pocket.
u/Saxophobe · 2 pointsr/NintendoSwitch

I hate to say it, but this happened to me too after a while. What caused it was the thumbstick getting knocked about in transit. (So even though it looks like it's ion its normal place, the mechanism underneath makes the onscreen positioning stick in a certain direction from time to time).

This is why I have stopped transporting it in soft pocuhes, and always make sure to use a more solid one that is well padded, as the thumb-sticks are always the most vulnerable part.

There are a few good ones out there that proitect them well.
Any of the RDS ones are solid, and well padded. (though not much space for carrying anything else though besides your switch and very small items like cartridges).

https://www.amazon.co.uk/Nintendo-Switch-Traveler-Deluxe-Travel-Breath/dp/B01N6S888E

The best one I have used by far though is the Orzly Carry Case for Nintendo Switch, as not only is it exactly the same size on the outside as the RDS one, but the inner space management is alot better on the Orzly one. You get lots of top pocket room, aswell as everything being well padded inside, and the outside is solid enough to never press down on the thumbsticks, so my joy-cons always last alot longer.

https://www.amazon.com/Orzly-Carry-Compatible-Nintendo-Switch/dp/B01NAUKS62

Unfortunately once the thumbstick's start failing, it does mean the whole joy-cons need replacing. Were your joy-cons always like that, or did it happen over time? (I'm just thinking that if you bought them new and they had this fault, they may still be under guarantee from where you bought them from, which would save you having to pay). When it happened to me though, it happened after a while of use, so unfortunately I just had to buy new ones, and just be more careful how I transport my switch. It was a valuable lesson well learned. (well, an expensive one, anyway)

Hello, I literally just got my Switch yesterday! I'm assuming your son is ~10 years old. Hopefully this can help;

  1. "Updates" only took 1 minute for me. I'm unsure if the console was already up-to-date to a certain point, but updating was practically instant. Same with my Super Mario Odyssey update, took an extra 1 minute. So 2 minutes total doing updates and then I was playing a game.
  2. I highly recommend one. I got the tempered glass amFilm one from Amazon. Really nice screen protector and you get two for ~$10, this one specifically: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B01N3ASPNV/
  3. I personally recommend a rubber TPU case for the switch/joycons, this is the one I bought: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0716KM5BB/

I recommend the rubber case because it'll protect the device itself from small drops and scuffs that can occur if the user of the device isn't careful. I'm in my early 20's and I'm extremely careful with my phones(haven't dropped any phones for about 3-4 years now).

I bought this rubber case for my Switch just in case someone else is using it and drops it. The console and joycons all have their own rubber piece, but the joycons can still snap onto the Switch, however the Switch cannot dock into the TV Dock enclosure with the rubber case on. So if your son wants to play on the TV constantly then this case isn't worth the hassle in my opinion.

I never had any issues with the SP but my DS Lite's left-side hinge broke from just opening it to play one time about two years after I bought it new, which prevented me from being able to play unless it was on a flat surface. At the time I had a carrying case, wrist strap and was super careful with it all the time too.

After the hinge snapped, if I angled it too high it would shut because there was nothing keeping it from shutting, and when it was on a table it would bend all the way back which was annoying but at least I could play it. Couldn't play it while walking or seated up or anything, which may not sound like much but was really super annoying. Looked online and realized it was a common issue. Ended up tossing it after my attempt to repair it broke the top screen, and bought a 3DS. I haven't changed any of my habits in regards to system care because I can't think of any ways I can be more careful with it but neither hinge has broken yet. But the hinges will break eventually since physical, moving parts rubbing against each other break down after time.

Dust and junk are not an issue as long as you have a case and put the device in the case whenever you're not using it, and I've had a case for all of the portable gaming systems I've owned (including GBA, which I don't use anymore but is still clean as a whistle). I bought this hard shell case for my Switch because it has cut-outs on the top that protect the analog sticks. I don't have a 2DS but if I did I'd pay more to buy a case like that one to protect the analog sticks so they're not getting wobbled around in transit as well.

u/gvmemv16 · 2 pointsr/NintendoSwitch

I think I’m familiar with your problem. I was searching for something that makes it easier to carry around and less of a hassle to play. Now, I’m using a leather case for my switch. It is a case that is slightly similar to an Ipad case with a cover. It covers the whole switch, but it has holes for the joystick so you won’t have to worry about it. It also has pockets for game cartridge, but I only put 2-4 cartridges, because 8 carts forms bumps on the cover. It also has a stand function, much easier for table top modes and joycons can easily be removed. And most importantly, it can still fit in my pocket, and has a wrist strap if I want to carry it around. My friends mistook it as a regular tablet when I first showed it to them LOL.

I bought this from an online store from my country. I searched a similar leather case from amazon, and found this https://www.amazon.com/Nintendo-Switch-Carrying-Hornorm-Holeders-Function/dp/B07JC89C5N

u/Rawking · 1 pointr/NintendoSwitch

It's the reason I bought a switch and I love it. Handheld + indie games = amazing. I enjoyed handheld without a case but I bought one because I wanted to keep my switch in as good of shape as I could. I bought YCCTEAM Nintendo Switch Case and I can never go back, it fits perfectly for me and feels great.

u/porchguitar · 2 pointsr/NintendoSwitch

You really have to stay with nintendo parts on the dock. 3rd party docks have been known to brick systems. Could brick them fast, could take a while but it's not worth it. Buy a second dock on ebay or something, rehouse it in that small casing you are talking about. It's really the only option. I don't know of any smaller adapters, I bought the nintendo one again for travel. Add this case (https://www.amazon.com/Compatible-tomtoc-Protective-Hardshell-Accessories/dp/B07HCZ6BN5/ref=sr_1_9?ie=UTF8&qid=1550237816&sr=8-9&keywords=tomtoc+case+switch) and you can fit all of it in one very nice and small package. It's really your best bet. I've put a ton of research and testing into these and this is the best rig for switch.

1.) For scratch & bump protection I have the Nyko Thin Case on my Switch (available in different colors):

https://www.amazon.com/Nyko-Thin-Case-Dockable-Protective-Protector/dp/B072KHS2Q5/

https://www.amazon.com/Nyko-Thin-Case-Dockable-Protective-Protector/dp/B077ZKVRTR/

It's a thin plastic case around almost all of your Switch to protect it from scratches & bumps, and comes with a tempered glass screen protector. It's also dockable, and thin enough to fit in many carrying cases.

If you want a Switch case that matches your Pikachu/Eevee theme, they have some available now:

https://www.amazon.com/HORI-Nintendo-Switch-Pikachu-Protector/dp/B07HMTX414/

2.) For everyday travel protection, you can get a zippered carrying case. Since I love "slim", but didn't want to sacrifice protection, I bought the TomToc Slim Hard Case (available in different colors):

https://www.amazon.com/Compatible-Nintendo-Hardshell-Cartridges-Accessory-Sswitch/dp/B0769GCSMK/

https://www.amazon.com/Compatible-Nintendo-Original-Hardshell-Cartridges-Accessory/dp/B07C3Z8FFC/

When the Switch first came out, there weren't that many choices for "slim" hard cases, but now I see there are several similar-styled cases that also look pretty durable.

And again, if you want an everyday carrying case that is Pokemon-themed, they have some available now too:

https://www.amazon.com/Nintendo-Switch-Pikachu-Officially-Licensed-Pokemon/dp/B07HBMKFVY/

https://www.amazon.com/Nintendo-Switch-Pikachu-Officially-Licensed-Pokemon/dp/B07HBMZRJT/

https://www.amazon.com/Nintendo-Switch-System-Travel-Pikachu-500-110/dp/B07HM6Q8L9/

https://www.amazon.com/Nintendo-Switch-Deluxe-Pikachu-Element-500-093/dp/B07GX89VWN/

... just google for more.

3.) If you travel long-distances or on lengthy trips, you may want to get a larger zippered hard case to fit your chargers, battery packs, extra joy-cons and/or pro controllers, HDMI dock, tons of games, etc. I don't have any one in particular to recommend, but in searching ebay it seems like there are hundreds of different cases available now (though not all of them look good).

u/Irrelevant231 · 10 pointsr/Switch

I personally have an Orzly tempered glass screen protector, but these are mostly useful against scratches; Nintendo opted for a plastic screen which can scratch very easily, whereas glass is more prone to cracking (I have heard that plastic won't do this as easily). Tempered glass, as the wikipedia article states that when broken, because of the way it is manufactured it will 'crumble into small granular chunks instead of splintering into jagged shards as plate glass (a.k.a. annealed glass) does. The granular chunks are less likely to cause injury.' This should, therefore, protect the screen, and the worst case scenario isn't dangerous.

https://www.amazon.co.uk/Screen-Protector-Nintendo-Switch-Tempered-2x-TRANSPARENT-Glass-Protectors/dp/B01N9RG3XS/

For something to protect it when in use, I have no personal experience. However, both my travel case and screen protector are from Orzly, and they appear very high quality, the screen protector had a very helpful tutorial video on youtube regarding application, and a few days after ordering I got a helpful email with tips for application. Because of this, I am inclined to believe they have high standards, so I am not surprised that their grip case is Amazon's choice for "Nintendo Switch grip". The description mentions impact resistance, and it has very positive reviews and several questions answered. Because of this, I highly suggest you have a look at the Amazon page yourself.

Zelda is a no brainer. If he's never played Binding of Isaac go with that one. Honestly, I would stop there. Zelda will keep him busy for a long time.

I would strongly recommend an official Nintendo carrying case. He's going to want to travel with it at some point. Have a doctors appointment, got to go get your car inspected, or anything else where you have to sit and wait? The Switch is perfect and the carrying case is big for it. The small one that carries just the Switch will do. You don't need the $30 one that carries even the dock. He'll like this one or this one.

The next question is physical vs digital. Does your boyfriend like to collect physical copies of games or just download them? Check for one of his existing systems. Does he have a huge library of physical games or does he just have the console? If he is a digital guy you may want to consider an SD card of 128 GB or 256 GB.

The Pro controller is great, but it costs about $70. If it is in your budget get it. It is great.

u/bishoujo688 · -1 pointsr/NintendoSwitch

I was very fortunate this weekend to meet Patricia Summersett, who provides the voice for Princess Zelda in BotW. I got her to sign my Switch! But now I would love suggestions for a clear case for my console so I don't have to worry about the signature fading while in portable mode. I'm not too worried about the signature while the system is docked. Right now, I'm looking at this case in particular:
https://www.amazon.com/Nintendo-Findway-Protective-Absorption-Resistant/dp/B0716KM5BB/ref=sr_1_3?ie=UTF8&qid=1498584142&sr=8-3&keywords=switch+clear+case
Any thoughts or suggestions are greatly appreciated!

u/rhet115 · 2 pointsr/NintendoSwitch

I've some random examples here, however I would recommend you do some shopping around for yourself.

Findway Crystal Case

Kungber Hard Back Case

Kungber Ergonomic Back Case

Nyko Bubble Case

Nyko Slim Case

Mumba Protective Case

Liangsm Leather Cover

Utoper Wallet Carrying Case

Yoswan Aluminum Case

Chinfai Silicone Skin

YoRHa Hand Grip

Keep your specific needs in mind. Do you want a case that will allow your Switch to fit inside the dock? Do you use tabletop mode often and want your Joy-Cons to be easily detachable? Do you want a case that will cover your screen when not in use? Do you want your case to give you extra grip while holding it in handheld mode? Do you prefer hard plastic or is silicone acceptable? How important is it that the buttons remain uncovered? Etc.

u/Marxally · 1 pointr/NintendoSwitch

Since I got a Orzly case, I decided to keep purchasing product from that brand, and I grabbed their comfort grip for handheld use. Pretty basic, but for its price it's pretty decent. It's made in good materials, and it isn't floppy at all! I really like the design too!

I have the larger storage version of this one (Tom Toc brand), plus the smaller switch-only version, and they are both fantastic. Extremely high quality fabric and zippers, plus looks great. I think you're looking for the mid-size, I'm sure its great too.

u/Saborwing · 4 pointsr/NintendoSwitchDeals

I’m wavering between this and the tomtoc travel case for safe transportation of my switch and accessories. Has anyone compared them both (or do any of you have the tomtoc case)?

They’re pretty close in price so at this point I’m more concerned with safety/durability, capacity, convenience when actually traveling, etc. If I were traveling and using a backpack, I’d probably want one big enough to fit my other tech like my laptop, sound canceling headphones, etc. If anyone has an opinion one way or the other, I’d love to hear it.

u/GettingRidOfAuntEdna · 2 pointsr/NintendoSwitch

I have a switch backpack , it’s lovely for travel, can carry up to 8 joy cons (2 attached to the switch and 6 pockets), lots of pockets for everything and room for others. People have mentioned to not carry it in a visibly licensed product in big cities, but you could remove the licensing with a seam ripper and a patient and careful hand. I got a glass screen protector , it comes with 2 and I got this small case to basically protect it around the house. They have larger small cases that carry more than just the switch, there is also a Zelda themed case and as of right now Walmart has it on sale for the physical copy of the game.

u/cowsareverywhere · 1 pointr/NintendoSwitch

Hey, the ButterFox case is pretty great. But if you want something cheaper I would highly recommend the AmazonBasics case for $10.

Also the AmFilm tempered glass protector is the best and real easy to apply.

u/Nintendoismeh78 · 0 pointsr/nintendo

I'd agree with you, although seeing how there's only 18 reserved spots for the $49 version, that may be a reason for it being overlooked.

As for an additional grip, there's pretty much a hundred options to choose from, with a pretty good one only being $7.99

https://www.amazon.com/dp/B077V9B7C6/ref=sspa_dk_detail_2?psc=1&pd_rd_i=B077V9B7C6&pf_rd_m=ATVPDKIKX0DER&pf_rd_p=1713835751726239774&pf_rd_r=CFN1HSJA0KBPF5E5YQDY&pd_rd_wg=YQi7B&pf_rd_s=desktop-dp-sims&pf_rd_t=40701&pd_rd_w=Q8h3a&pf_rd_i=desktop-dp-sims&pd_rd_r=147af2cf-6097-11e8-a668-ed0ada30d19e

Add that with the powerbank I mentioned earlier:

https://www.amazon.com/Portable-RAVPower-22000mAh-Li-polymer-Smartphone/dp/B01G1XH46M/ref=sr_1_1_sspa?ie=UTF8&qid=1527306595&sr=8-1-spons&keywords=anker+usb+c+power+bank&psc=1

You have your own makeshift case for nearly half. Granted you may need some tape or glue if you really intent on having the powerbank stick to the case.

If you just want to carry games and the Switch I got this one. For the price it is a great deal has a hard plastic shell and a nice foam fitted lining (think like those fancy camera or gun cases). I have dropped the case a bunch and it protects the switch in it perfectly (Once in a shallow puddle. I would not recommend swimming with it though.).

So I am looking to order a case soon for my Switch, and have mostly settled on ordering one from FYOUNG via Amazon. I came across two that seem to be the same, but are priced differently and have separate listings. To anyone that has used one of these cases before, is there one to choose over the other? I noticed a slight difference to the cutouts near the rear ventilation, but that's all. Thanks!

Just picked up a Switch via the Target deal. Need the usual accompaniment.

I'm picking up an amFilm screen protector and would like a case.

I've seen cases from TomToc, Fyoung, and the Orzly pack which seems like a good deal; and just came across this Zadii grip (Satisfye clone?), case, and screen protector that also looks like a good deal.

Any recommendations?

u/ThePoetPyronius · 8 pointsr/NintendoSwitch

Tomtoc Hard Storage Case is the bomb. It's thicker than most slim cases, which means I have the option to fit 2 extra joycons, or a pro controller, or a power bank, as well as other extras. Fits 18 game carts, and turns into a stand so I don't have to pack one. Bought it in red, looks great, comes in slim or whole console versions too. https://www.amazon.com/Compatible-tomtoc-Protective-Hardshell-Accessories/dp/B07HCZ6BN5/ref=mp_s_a_1_3?keywords=tomtoc+switch&qid=1558618107&s=gateway&sr=8-3

That's pretty cool but I think I've seen it in Datablitz SM Megamall, weeks ago. Maybe it was a different brand, but I question the necessity of this considering you'll either be carrying the Switch in a travel case when it's out, or leaving it in its dock at home. And speaking of the dock, you'll have to remove the case every time you want to dock the Switch. Bit of a hassle if you plan on switching modes a lot.

>Messenger Bag (since I'm always moving weekly)
https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01N22YAIP/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_dp_T2_rhGlzb5Z4BRJ7

Datablitz carries this HORI travel bag for the Switch, which I bought for myself and it does a good job carrying the console, dock, HDMI cable, power adapter, and Joycon grip with extra Joycon attached. The dividers on the inside are modular and can be moved around to suit your packing style. It's about half the price of the messenger bag, and you can still stuff it into a backpack for portability (which is how I carry it around when I do need to bring everything, though that's only happened twice).

>Case (sana meron dito nito)
https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01MY9JB2U/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_dp_T2_shGlzbTK8JKQZ

There are cases here though none that I've seen which have handles. This isn't an issue though if you've already got a bag or backpack to carry it in, which I highly recommend doing anyway; carrying a Nintendo-branded bag/case around, especially one tailor-fit for the Switch, is just begging to be stolen.

While I don't agree with the necessity of some of these accessories, my Switch use case may very well differ from yours (when you eventually do decide to get it). So if you still think those exact items are the ones you really need to get, then I'd suggest using a shipping forwarder like Jinio (Xend-owned), My-ShoppingBox (FICI-owned), or Shippingcart (LBC-owned) to receive and ship your orders directly to you. I've used all three and they're generally equally reliable.

u/PinoyLaker · 1 pointr/NintendoSwitchDeals

How many of you are using a grip on your switch? Any recommendations and is it mandatory?

Also, I just bought this ultra slim protective case from Tomtoc, on a lightning deal for $16.99, and I really do like it and how slim it is. But I also saw that Tomtoc had this case that came with a free grip for the same if not lesser price than the ultra slim. What do you guys think. I’ve only had my switch for about a week and probably gonna play 60-70% in console mode and the rest handheld. What’s nice about the ultra slim is that it fits in a couple of my shoulder bags when I take on the go.

u/TheTerribleSnowflac · 1 pointr/NintendoSwitch

For all of you undocked users, do you use a plastic cover like this or one of these hybrid covers.

Also does anyone have a good recommendation for back covers to protect the backplate when it is docked?

Thanks!

Can you tell me if it helps mitigate the slight wobble of the Joycons? That is the one thing about the Nintendo switch that drives me nuts.

u/RyZeHammoud · 3 pointsr/NintendoSwitch

Yeah those look good, but would leave the joycon quite exposed in my backpack.

Ive seen this case last night. Which also protects the joycon when it’s shut, however I don’t know how good it would be to play with while the case is on. (It also looks bulky and hideous in my opinion)

u/forestminish · 1 pointr/NintendoSwitch

I'd recommend getting a case similar to this as well as a tempered glass screen protector (this is a good one). That should be enough to keep your Switch safe as long as you aren't dropping it or throwing it around, and you can put it in the case when you're taking it around with you.

u/Lorben · 3 pointsr/NintendoSwitch

In that scenario I'd get an Amazon Basics Vault case. The hard outer shell protects it well in a bag and keeps things from accidentally turning on the Switch by bumping the case which drains the battery. No room for accessories like additional Joycons or battery banks, but you could throw those in your backpack separate if needed.

The Switch Pro controller is well worth it if you're going to be playing in docked mode.

Also a tempered glass screen protector is highly recommended.

Just gonna go ahead and put this right here: nothing fancy no weird eBay or cL stuff; straight up amazon prices: also with the exception of the Yok brand wheels being subbed for the licensed Nintendo ones; this is all apples to apples

Amazon links and prices for everything brand new:
Switch - New $300 / used $255

NBA 2k18 - New $60 / Used $36

Mario Odyssey - New $49 / Used $40

Hori Gamepad - New $21 / Used $15

(can't find the wheel by brand so)Nintendo Steering Wheels 2 - New $15 / Used $12

Nyko Thin Case - New $10 / Used in color shown $28 on amazon

Hori Screen Protector - new $3.26 / used why buy a used screen protector

So yeah, that's about everything

Total for everything new: $459

Total for everything used: $372

I’m not saying you should sell it at $372 (not strongly anyway) just ya know, it’s maybe $20 for you to ship it, $390?

What would be the downside of a refurbished Switch, though?

I've kind of gotten in the mindset that officially refurbed items really are not much different than the brand new ones. I bought my Canon T6 refurbed, had the same exact warranty as a brand new one, no issues with it.

I feel like the refurb price is a better deal than the Wal-Mart ad. I don't think the case is a big deal an the $20 credit is mitigated by the lower price. Honestly I kind of like this case better anyways.

I'm still miffed it doesn't come with a game by default, though. Darn consoles these days.

Nintendo Switch Clear Case

u/TemptedTemplar · 4 pointsr/NintendoSwitch

The 3ds is absolutely worth if you want to play some its games. Last year at Black friday I topped off my 3DS library and I think my final count is 20 cartridges + another 10 or 15 digital titles. Having an active Virtual console probably helps too.

For the 3DS I would suggest getting a snap on case. They make metal ones like this, and clear plastic ones too if its a special edition system.

Similarly for your current switch, or if you do get the Pokemon one, get a protective case. While making docking a pain, it will at least offer some protection if you accidentally drop it in the future.

u/BunnyGandhi · 1 pointr/NintendoSwitch

Hey jerburt, I have a Switch travel case I could trade you for Crash if you're interested. I don't have pictures of it on Imgur 'cause I haven't been trying to trade it, but it's kind of like this one but with more of a cloth-ish exterior and it isn't made by Amazon.

I have this carry case and although the unit fits it is a pretty tight fit. Normally I can store a six foot cord in the case with the switch however with the protector on it barely shuts even with nothing in the front zipper pouch. Since the protector in this thread is a bit thinner it might not be an issue?

u/hengelheimer · 0 pointsr/NintendoSwitch

I picked up this case for something simple but attractive:

I really wanted the blue version of it from Amazon:

but it was $50 (and also out of stock) when I was looking.

It has 2 little cases that hold 4 game cartridges each, and a zippered pouch big enough for the joycon straps and a pair of wired earbuds.

I currently use the smoky Nyko Dock Case, and I like it because it gives a plastic shell on the console without making it bulky. It is advertised to be so thin in docks in the case, and I remember it did decently. Plus, for $10 on Amazon it's a hard value to beat: https://www.amazon.com/Nyko-Dockable-Thin-Case-compatible-Nintendo/dp/B077ZKVRTR/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1524341625&sr=8-1&keywords=nyko+switch+case

u/mcantrell · 5 pointsr/KotakuInAction

Get a screen protector immediately, the dock scratches the screen. Until you have one, leave it docked as much as you can (the scratches come from being slid into the dock / taken out, not from standard use).

I got this one, it's great: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B01N3ASPNV/

I also got this for it, but it won't fit in the dock anymore with it, which is fine for me as I don't use the dock: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0716KM5BB/

logo or not, these cases all scream "nintendo switch" since there currently is nothing else that has quite these(long thin rectanglesque dimensions

you could use one that has deliberately a different form factor https://www.amazon.com/AmazonBasics-Travel-Storage-Nintendo-Switch-Yellow/dp/B074C83C5T/ the red one could probably be made to look like a medkit

or there is one that looks like a toolbox https://www.amazon.com/AmazonBasics-Vault-Case-Nintendo-Switch-Red/dp/B073486QF5/ and you could probably put a screwdriver & wrench sticker on it to add to the illusion

for generic cases, make sure they're not pressing any buttons (particularly the joycon shoulder buttons, and analog sticks). otherwise the switch might wake inside the case and overheat

It doesn't have a stand built in, but it has a 'cut out' on the back so you can use the stand that's built into the Switch. The case is sort of a rubbery/silicone material, so it's easy to take off & put on, without it being loose. The extra trip is good too.

u/B_G_L · 2 pointsr/NintendoSwitch

I do have a case, but it's too bulky to be practical in my traveling kit. Last time I traveled, I slid the Joycons off and packed them separately, and I have one of those glass screen protectors on my Switch, so I slipped it in with my laptop, using my notebook as padding between the two.

It still travels well, but it's a mite bit fiddlier than the 3DS was.

If you recover or replace it, pick up one of these. It just looks like a generic case, and folks don't pay it much attention. Plus you can drop it down a flight of stairs and it'll be fine. Plus, no identifying logos like some other cases.

I use this One for my big grown-up man hands and it’s worked pretty well.

It’s black in the picture but it’s mostly clear plastic in reality. The only problem with it is that it isn’t dockable with this case on.

Just picked one up. This is 3 dollars less in USD than is currently listed on Amazon, but for a product so well reviewed, I think it's worth the splurge.

u/burstfiredragon · 1 pointr/NintendoSwitch

My boyfriend got me this one for christmas; https://www.amazon.co.uk/Nintendo-Pikachu-Officially-Licensed-Pokemon/dp/B07HBMKFVY/ref=sr_1_18?keywords=switch+case&qid=1558619685&s=gateway&sr=8-18

And it's insanely strong for a case. I've dropped it down a set of stone stairs and there's barely even a mark on the case, let alone the Switch.

u/Sacache · 1 pointr/NintendoSwitch

How about this one?

Otherwise just search Nintendo Switch Pouch on Amazon and have a scroll.

Switch - $300
Set of JoyCons - $80
Zelda - $60
Mario Kart - $60
Snipperclips - $20
Blaster Master Zero - $10
Tempter glass screen protector - $11 for a two pack
BotW zipper case - $18

So, $559 before tax. Zelda and four player games with my wife and kids make it 100% worth if for me. I scavenged the 32GB memory card from my tablet, and my next purchases will be sonic and a powerbank as I have a long trip coming up.

It doesn't actually cover the buttons, but i haven't really had an issue

That's why I always leave my joycons on the thing, and place my switch in my travel case every night if I'm taking it to work or on a trip.

https://www.amazon.com/Nintendo-Switch-Traveler-Deluxe-Travel-Breath/dp/B01N6S888E/ref=sr_1_6?ie=UTF8&qid=1501849416&sr=8-6&keywords=switch+travel+case has been worth every penny.

u/caffeineshakesthe2nd · 1 pointr/Switch

For me a case has been necessary. With the amount of traveling my wife and I have done it is convenient way to keep games, extra joycons, and USB-C charging cable all together. While I don't have this case, I like the design of the Amazon basics case a lot. Amazon basics case

u/jooooonnny · 1 pointr/Breath_of_the_Wild

There’s a photo of the switch in the case on the amazon page

u/mwaldron · 7 pointsr/Switch

It's the basic stock "official" Nintendo switch case and it is very nice.

I ended up preferring the Amazon Basics version as it was slightly smaller and the handle on the official one annoyed me.

u/big_duck_energy · 1 pointr/NintendoSwitch

I use this, and I like it sooooo much that after my child bought me the Satisfye, which prompted me to give my Orzly away, I bought another one.

how is the case in the Starter Kit? I bought a hard case which seems to offer a lot of protection but is a little bulky for my bookbag

I got one very similar to this https://www.amazon.com/Fintie-Nintendo-Switch-Case-Multi-Angle-Viewing/dp/B06XWC4DND it's decent. I wound up getting the a new one though because that one does have holders for game carts

u/CyanicCloud · 0 pointsr/gaming

I noticed you don’t have a case, may I suggest this one?

u/revtoiletduck · 3 pointsr/NintendoSwitch

I just picked up a Switch. Any recommendations of accessories kit? I browsed the wiki but it's more of a listing than actual recommendations. I think this one is my current frontrunner.

u/Wescyde · 0 pointsr/NintendoSwitch

Does anyone have a Nyko thin protective case on their switch, and then have added another protective case over it such as one of these. Wondering if it would be thin enough and that way when undocked can attach it

I bought this one, it is a hard plastic shell.

AmazonBasics Vault Case for Nintendo Switch, Red https://www.amazon.com/dp/B073486QF5/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_fIsRBbHFJHS3X

I got it for way cheaper than currently listed, it was actually an add on item then. Just saying that the price fluctuates wildly if you wanted to watch it for awhile.

Trying to figure out what case she has in a few of the pics.

I think it's this one but I'm not sure:

u/Exile20 · 1 pointr/NintendoSwitch

Thanks so much for the pics, I appreciate you taking them for me. The case looks like it aligns pretty well and good build. Is it easy to take on and off?

Fakespot is a site that analyzes amazon product reviews to determine if the reviewers are fake or not. It is not a for sure thing ofcourse, just a warning.

I ordered it just now to see it for myself. I bought this one, https://www.amazon.com/YCCTEAM-Nintendo-Switch-Case-Protective/dp/B075CDW965/ref=cm_cr_arp_d_product_top?ie=UTF8 and it arrived today and I am not completely impressed, the handles don't seem to stop the cramp so hopefully these larger ones will be good. I looked at the switch grip but that is expensive as hell.

u/asianflipboy · 4 pointsr/NintendoSwitch

Had my Switch in one of these while traveling up to Orlando.

https://www.amazon.com/AmazonBasics-Vault-Case-Nintendo-Switch-Black/dp/B07348551R

3.5 hour drive. At some point, my Switch turned on mid trip and just idled for the rest of the drive. It was set to never sleep for some reason. Got to my destination, Switch was still on. At that point, it had ~30% battery and was running pretty hot. The fans were on overdrive trying to keep it cool. The game holder flap was starting to get mushy, but wasn't at its melting point. It surprised me that it overheat and die in there.

u/Solar_Kestrel · -2 pointsr/NintendoSwitch

This is what I’m using:

https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01N6S888E/ref=twister_B01N14XHML?_encoding=UTF8&psc=1

It has pockets that can hold some loose carts, and comes with two small transparent plastic cart cases that can hold 4 carts each, which are stored in fitted slots underneath the Switch.

u/i3londee · 1 pointr/Breath_of_the_Wild

It was in the TEENY TINY case inside my bigger switch case. Tried everything. Must have fallen out in the street or the moving truck. If someone found it (LL or moving truck company) they lied to me about not having it.

I love that game SO MUCH that when my switch broke 100 hours in, I happily started right over again when my save-data was wiped. I was 150 hours in before I lost the game. I’m just glad that when I can afford to buy it again my saves will still be there cause I was in the middle of a big korok seed hunt!

I got this one along with my switch last June and I’ve taken my switch cross country and I’ve had no problems with it the cartridge containers hold 8 games in total which is more than enough for me and should accommodate you unless you have everything physical

I bought this one. No complaints.

  1. Grab one of these: http://www.8bitdo.com/wireless-usb-adapter/

    -
  2. The switch is all plastic (even the screen) so it's a bit more susceptible to damage. In some cases, it has also warped because of heat, so be sure you have good airflow wherever you put the dock. Definitely get a hard(er) carrying case (something like this: https://www.amazon.com/AmazonBasics-Vault-Case-Nintendo-Switch-Black/dp/B07348551R/), a tempered glass screen protector (https://www.amazon.com/amFilm-Tempered-Protector-Switch-2017/dp/B01N3ASPNV/) and maybe a slim case for the switch itself if you drop shit a lot or just leave it lying around (https://www.amazon.com/Nintendo-Switch-Station-Protective-Accessories/dp/B078MKQY2W/).
u/ShiftyThePirate · 1 pointr/NintendoSwitch

I mean it is used on cell-phones and tablets world-wide...doubt it'll hurt it, but I am using it with this case. https://www.amazon.com/Findway-Absorption-Technology-Protective-Accessories/dp/B0716KM5BB/ref=sr_1_15?s=videogames&ie=UTF8&qid=1517802598&sr=1-15&keywords=switch+case

Can't imagine the adhesive would ever hurt a switch if it doesn't hurt other plastic though. I wouldn't put it on a naked switch unless I never wanted to use a case and only used dock extensions.
