> what thermometer are you using?

I use this easy@home one. It is a lot more expensive than a lot, but I absolutely love it. Plus, it came with a nice case that I use for all my TTC stuff.
> Where did you get it?

Amazon
> How long does it take to give you a result?

I'm not sure how long it takes to read, because I tend to pass out again until it beeps.

> Does it remember multiple readings?

It remembers up to 60 readings (including date and time) which is super helpful because I always forget to enter and just do so on a weekly basis.

>What do you like and dislike about yours?

Like: Big, backlit display, memory. Dislike: Almost 3x as expensive as alternatives.

>Should I go for one that gives two-decimal readings?

Absolutely.
>And does anyone prefer something else over FertilityFriend to chart temps?

I love the no-frills, analytical feel of FF.

I got this one from Amazon. The Easy@home one. Somewhere in this sub someone mentioned it before, and I saved it in my wishlist... and then it was price reduced and I ordered it. So far I've been using it for a little over two weeks, and it seems to be doing great. There was one morning I wasn't sure if it cut off or not, but I think I just fell back asleep and couldn't judge time lol. There have also been a couple of consecutive mornings where the temp was the same, so I tested later in the day to make sure it would give me a different reading, and it did. So I feel like it's pretty accurate. Also easy to use :)

The daily chat is likely winding down at this time of night (at least in north america)! So, most people recommend either the mabis or the easy@home. I like the MABIS - quiet beeps, temperature recall, no backlighting. Lots of people like the easy@home for the backlighting.

Most of us use fertility friend - it does the best job at using your data in predicting future cycles. Wanna help people do science and get a free VIP subscription? Join the BU presto study. You might want to take the free course they offer to get started on how to temp.

Lots of people use OPKs - most people buy wondfo brand OPKs and HPTs so we can piss on something if the wind blows. OPKs are useful for timing sex. HPTs are useful if you want to have a drink on 10DPO but you're a little worried. At least, that's the only use I've found for them. :)

Lots of people take prenatals - a multivitamin that has 400 mg of folic acid should have you covered, but y'know. Talk to your doctor. I'm guessing if you're in the WTT crowd you got this covered.

You'll also find that we have a stickied thread at the top of the subreddit that goes over the sub's rules, and has additional information. Searching the subreddit will also often find you the answers you seek, in a more timely fashion.

It is important to temp at roughly the same time every morning. I wake up at 5:30 for work and on days when I'm not working, I still set an alarm for 5:30 to temp, but I just keep the thermometer next to my phone so I can grab it without looking when I turn off the alarm, turn it on, temp, and just turn it off when it beeps. My thermometer has a memory function so I can check the temperature later when I'm more awake.

After nine years of temping for both contraception and TTC, I've decided that this is my favorite thermometer. It has a large display and a backlight so I can see the reading in the dark without turning on a lamp. It has a memory function AND a clock/date setting, so I can double-check that the temperature I'm reading is for the right day. It's large enough and the buttons are big enough that I can find it and push the right buttons to turn it on without looking at it. And you can easily replace the battery when it dies. I also feel like it doesn't "like" certain temperatures the way some thermometers do.

Unfortunately, it looks like my favorite thermometer has been discontinued. This one looks like the closest replacement, but I can't vouch for it personally.

u/kpendolino · 6 pointsr/TryingForABaby

I've been using this one for about two weeks now, and really like it. The backlight makes it easy to operate in the dark. It dims during the measurement, then brightens again when the measurement is done. Stores date and time of 60 measurements, and the alarm feature is really handy.

I had been using my phone with an alarm about half an hour before my normal wake-up time (because it had to be different for me to remember the new habit), but even then, it was difficult to remember and sometimes difficult to find the thermometer. With this one, I've got the alarm feature enabled, which makes it both super clear why I'm being awoken and super easy to find the darn thing.

u/Saint_Olaf · 3 pointsr/TryingForABaby

This has been awesome. I set the alarm for 5, wakes me up--take the temp and fall back asleep. Sometimes I won't even input my temps into my apps right away and will do it when I go to bed because I can recall the past few days. Seems pretty darn accurate. Takes over a minute to get the temp, but I am all for accuracy so that is ok with me. Good price too. See information below:

u/brrlynne · 3 pointsr/TryingForABaby

I use the Easy@Home one and it's been great so far. It also has memory and holds up to 60 temps, so you can fall back asleep after temping :) I recommend just getting a 250 pack or so of alcohol wipes for cleaning.

u/Peimaj · 4 pointsr/TryingForABaby

I had the same problem! I strongly recommend [this] (https://www.amazon.com/iSnow-Med-Thermometer-Temperature-ovulation-switchable/dp/B06WRPQ3ZB/ref=sr_1_2_a_it?ie=UTF8&qid=1525305939&sr=8-2&keywords=isnow-med+digital+thermometer) thermometer. I apologize in advance if the link doesnt work because this is my first attempt at adding a link to a comment. The beep isn't particularly loud BUT the screen lights up when its done so for me the light will catch my attention. It also keeps record of temps for 30 days (will save the temp day and time). Plus, as already mentioned it is backlit and has a large display so no matter how dark it is in your room you can still easily catch a glimpse of what your temp was before you fall back asleep.

If your cycles are more than 38 days or less than 21 days your problem is more than likely beyond anything "natural" methods will deal with - unless the method is actually just an herb that mimics estrogens or progesterones, such as dong quai which has been used to regulate periods but has been found to contain phytoestrogens.

Other "natural" methods would regulate the health of your body so that if you are under a state of perpetual stress which is causing anovulation that may stop. These methods are general healthy habits: balanced diet, regular and high quality sleep, regular exercise, etc.

But, really, if your periods are as irregular as you say and you are 29 year old it is unlikely to be managed through phytoestrogens or healthy habits (although the latter will help you in a plethora of other ways of course). You could have PCOS, or even be going through early menopause.

What I would also recommend to you is to buy a thermometer (this one is great for daily use) and take your temp at the same time every day when you wake up or an hour or two before you usually wake up to track your basal body temperature and see if you actually ARE ovulating. This would give your endocrinologist more information to work with in tracking down what could be wrong.

u/Gizmos_Human · 1 pointr/infertility

Are you using this one?

That's the one I keep calling cheep lol. It only goes to one decimal place and I can take my temperature 3 times in a row and its drastically different (up and back down again by half a degree or more). The easy@home one is soooo much better. I've been spoiled. It has a backlight and a memory, so I literally fall asleep with it taking my temperature orally and wake up 10 min later when my snooze alarm goes off again and can recall the temp. It goes to 2 decimal places and I have great accuracy with it.

u/Ginger_1989 · 1 pointr/TryingForABaby

I'm the same way. I get so stressed out and my husband is hardly ever stressed. He's always the one making jokes and having to calm me down.

This is the thermometer I ordered from Amazon. I like this one because you can go back to old temps, it has a blacklight, and it comes in a nice box to keep it in.

I catch these all the time and didn't even know it was a big deal. It started when I'd see 5 star products with a lot of reviews but they were given the product for free to write the review. At that time, they'd actually mention it in their review that it worked that way. All the sudden, I started noticing the same type of thing happening, but no one mentioning they got it free and all tagged as verified purchases. Here's the thermometer I caught this shit on recently.

Edit to fix my link

u/redutton · 3 pointsr/TryingForABaby

The sidebar recommendations on temping refer to the Easy@home thermometer, is it...

u/baileyfaze · 1 pointr/TryingForABaby

Thanks for the recommendations! I'm still getting the forbidden page for the thermometer wiki.

Sounds like the Easy@Home fits my needs. The only Easy@Home BBT thermometer I'm finding on Amazon looks like it's been discontinued/it's unavailable. I'm also finding this non-BBT one.

Do you have one of these?

u/bunchacruncha16 · 1 pointr/TryingForABaby

here to share my hub & i also got married in august 2012 and once i get my first period off BCP we're trying :) i ordered this basal thermometer http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B013CVQ476?psc=1&redirect=true&ref_=oh_aui_detailpage_o02_s00 and no complaints. good luck!

u/Faythy · 2 pointsr/Parenting

I have had this one for 3 years and it works fine for me every time. I can take a temp 3-4 times in a row and its pretty much the same for 2-4 I normally do it twice just to be sure, and it lights up red based on the "input" (underarm/Rectal/oral) type if there is a fever.

I'm really glad to hear no one feels temping is a hassle! You're definitely helping me lean towards temping.. I see a BBT then thermometer purchase in my future (this one, probably: https://www.amazon.ca/gp/aw/d/B013CVQ476?vs=1)

u/agirlandhergame · 5 pointsr/Mommit

Honestly this was a big deal for me. I am a nurse practitioner. If I am going to take my child to the ER - I want to have the right temp when I do. So, I bought the same thermometer we use in the hospital. Not cheap - but one ER visit is more than the cost of the thermometer and I want to know for sure. Doctors make judgements based on the readings of this thermometer (and general condition) and so do I.

I just wish I could find a glass thermometer that didn't have the candy thermometer bulge in it like this one does.

u/Mcnugget84 · 2 pointsr/TryingForABaby

Welcome! I too share the 'because I've never had a scare there must be something wrong school'. I've learned here that despite what we've all been told getting knocked up isn't as easy as we thought (OK so some folks sneeze and are pregnant). While I do feel kind of let down that's OK.

My husband and I also both have a low sex drive (another thing I've learned is OK and not uncommon here) so timing things adds extra importance. I started temping this cycle I have a whole 2 points! Woo-hoo!

I have this thermometer. I don't love it but I don't have experience with anything else beeping at me at 5 am so there is that.

u/loopymath · 2 pointsr/waiting_to_try

Jumping in to say I'm a fitful sleeper as well (my fitbit always says I got 1-1.5 hours less sleep than the time I was in bed), but have been able to see the temp shift indicating O.

I have the Easy@Home thermometer which stores 60 temps and has an alarm on it. So I have the alarm set for 5:30 every day (it's the time I get up for work). Then even on weekends and holidays, I temp at that time, then go back to sleep and record the temp later in the day.

It doesn't hurt to try! :)

Both from my Under 5 WL - add-on item or a not add-on item. Thank you Santa Chica for the contest! I've been good I swear!!

Yep I got a new thermometer two months ago, switch to vaginally temping and it went wrong. I got a this from amazon which had fairly good reviews. Right around O it started giving stupidly low temperatures around 86F. I contacted customer support and they informed me that I was probably using it incorrectly. Since then I found this website http://fakespot.com/ which lets you check to see if reviews are real or not. Turns out most of the reviews on that thermometer are fake. What I did was switch back to my old thermometer, mid-cycle just so at least I had data.

Doodlebug
Yours (especially if you have kids) and mine.

EDIT: Totally read the objective wrong. I'm not good at this.
Great idea, thank you for the contest.

u/medtech07 · 1 pointr/TTC30

I use a Vick's Thermometer. It isn't a basal thermometer.

Likes:

  • big light up display. I can see it without my glasses, when I am still bleary-eyed barely awake (also color coded for fever) and haven't turned on the light. When it registers your temp it beeps and lights up
  • Reads in just a couple of seconds
  • Displays last temp taken when you turn it on
  • Reads to the 1/10th degree
  • Has a case

    Dislikes:

  • it beeps too much. It does 3-4 double beeps before lighting up the background up so you can see the temp in the dark. (you can see it before the background lights up if you have a light on)
u/desperateneedofcake · 2 pointsr/TryingForABaby

Which one did you get? I got this one and it gave terrible readings.

u/LadyLatitude · 1 pointr/infertility

WHAT THE FUCK GUYS?! I bought a new thermometer online, this one, mostly because it's backlit. I started using it about a month ago. And I swear it's not recording my temperature properly! I'm only in my second cycle taking my temperature, but here are my charts: December and current. I started using the new thermometer on the 15th of December.

I'm a very regular ovulator. I almost always detect an OPK surge on CD13 a couple of times on CD14. I didn't take Clomid or any other treatment this cycle, and I didn't monitor with OPKs either. We're just taking a month off between RE's. What do you guys think?
