Possibly Dumb Question: Does anyone know what kind of jacket this is or where I can find high quality ones? https://i.imgur.com/8GChcqg.jpg
Bit of a fashion novice but I really like the style of this type of jacket with the fur lining and am interested in the wool material of the coat, fleece is okay too. I live in a cold climate but I only own bulky heavy duty coats and I want a bit of a lighter jacket.
Unfortunately I've tried 50 different google and reddit searches, including checking the sidebar, and for some reason can't find any outside of cheap Asian companies from Amazon.
Examples from amazon: My favorite looking one "Men's Winter Wool Blend Casual Jacket Stand Collar Coat Outerwear"
"Yeokou Men's Vintage Slim Sherpa Lined Shearling Corduroy Trucker Jacket"
"Vcansion Men's Outdoors Casual Fleece Windproof Jacket Coat"
"M2MO Mens Casual Turn-down Collar Thicken Faux Lamb Wool Lined Jacket"
"Men's Winter Cotton Canvas Tucker Sherpa Collar Jacket with Fur Lining"
Edit just to add: This type of jacket would go great with the social environment I live in. 200$ Budget.
I just answered a nearly identical question in the SQ thread. To quote:
> I've seen this asked before and people typically say to look at military surplus.
> Here are some other options:
> - Craghoppers ($200) ~ recommended to me from another user here. I have no experience, but he liked his a lot and it looked good in fits.
> - Alpha Industries ($160-$200) ~ once again no experience, but people throw this brand around all the time here.
> - Helly Hansen ($208 after applying 20% off promotion) ~ supposedly underrated brand. Looks like a really nice parka for the price.
All of that said, I have to agree with what /u/thesaltyoubreathe said. It might be worthwhile to stretch your price range to $300 or $400 to get a decent quality parka. Otherwise you might have some luck looking through resale ads on grailed or ebay.

You gonna die.

You need a good fleece.
Something medium-weight, but breathable.
You might want to bring this with you, or plan to buy it not-too-long after arrival.
You need a good Parka. Not a jacket. A dang Parka.
But you will not need said parka when you arrive in the Fall. You can buy it later.
You need waterproof boots.
Lightly insulated is a plus.
You will not need these either on move-in day.
You will very probably want a hat & gloves too if you generally like doing things outdoors.
You can buy those same time as parka.
When I say Parka, I mean this:
https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01JEO3QOY/
Not this:
https://www.amazon.com/dp/B002GHC41S/
Long enough to cover your butt. An insulated hood. Pockets deep enough for your entire hand, plus your phone, plus a pair of gloves.
Now, if you are a home-body, and don't like to go outside, you can get buy with sweaters under anything rain-resistant, plus tennis shoes with thicker socks to just dash to class.
You don't HAVE to buy North Face / Columbia / LL Bean gear.
My understanding is that the Boston Area Goodwill has a solid supply of warm coats due in part from all the students coming & going. (There are like 26 universities in the Boston area).
This "32 Degrees" brand jacket seems to get rebadged and sold just about everywhere under this and different names, for around the $30 USD mark. I imagine you could find one in the UK easily enough, or get one shipped someplace. Hit up Amazon UK and you'll probably find that someone is willing to sell one to you.
I bought one for about $20 right at the peak of the winter holiday season (i.e. when coats are most expensive) at a department store a couple of years ago. For the money it is fantastic, and I usually use it exactly as you describe: Either when lounging around camp or underneath something else when hiking. For its price and weight it is extremely warm. You can also pack it down to about the size of
base... tennis ball when not in use.The shell material is not particularly durable so I wouldn't wear it when you're hiking anywhere you'll get poked by lots of tree branches or where it might get scraped on rocks. It also doesn't block wind very well. The breeze wafts through both the material (slightly) and the zipper (extremely), so pairing it with a windbreaker is probably a good idea in very windy conditions. I use my rain jacket for that, usually.
Best purchase: HH coastline Parka for $60. It was heavily discounted because I'm assuming people didn't want to wear red but I'm loving it so far and it was a nice bonus getting complimented on the jacket.
Worst purchase: Jack and Jones sweater, the collar is very loose and I'm having a hard time fitting it into my style.
Still a little puffy but I love Woolrich
If you don't care about money, the John Rich & Bros version
I bought this down jacket for $40 and really love it for the quality and price. I think the brand 32degrees is really underrated. I love their shirts and underwear too.

Bought a microscope... didn't realize it was entire order, just one item so might try to add something via chat.
I have this Fjallraven jacket and really like it. Get a lot of compliments but not everyone's style, $140 size Medium, Moosejaw has it on sale for $200 right now.
Looks better in person, I'd look at google images. No hand pockets though.

Amazon Essential has a Packable Down Jacket for $50, and a Packable Puffer Jacket for $40.
The only difference seems to be that the Puffer Jacket uses a synthetic filling.
I have the Puffer Jacket and can confirm that it's very warm, water resistant, and feels at least as good as the Uniqlo Ultra Light Down Jacket. I live in San Francisco, where it's perpetually kind-of-cold, and this has quickly become my go-to everyday jacket.
590 Turbodown Columbia Jacket Just moved to PNW, interested in a down jacket (never owned one before), this seems pretty good I think? I'd prefer to get the Titan Ridge Down Jacket, but can't justify doubling the price to be just a little warmer.
This thing will keep you so warm, you'll sweat in negative temps.
I bought this from Penneys when I first moved up here. It is definitely too heavy for the usual days, but when we have those extreme polar vortexes or cold snaps, it is perfect. This is a "it is in the negatives, wind is 30mph, and currently snowing" coat.
Amazon Essentials Puffy Coat with hood. $45 https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07C8Y6V4G/
That is the warmest jacket I've ever owned and it's $45...with a hood. Buy it.
Polypro baselayers.
Dryducks rain jacket and or pants.
Inexpensive grid fleece mid layer (or use a synthetic hoodie if you alreay have... don't use cotton.)
Uniglo or cheap down jacket
Underwear: any synthetic athletic mid thigh boxer-brief. No tighty whities, no short shorts, no cotton, not cotton boxers. You'll sweat and chafe.
Socks: Darn tuff are the best for the money, however any wool or synthetic will do. I recommend crew length and more thin than heavy. Heavy at night is fine around the camp, but hiking I'm using a runner's sock.
Shirt: any synthetic athletic shirt. I prefer long sleeves because you'll be hiking in sun all day...
Shorts/pants: Columbia makes good inexpensive pants. Synthetic golfing pants are another cheap option. or... althletic shorts.
Hiking hat: mesh trucker cap.
Cold hat: buff + watchcap.
As always avoid cotton, it absorbs moisture, gets cold, takes too long to dry.
How does the Tough Duck Hydro Parka fare in terms of quality, fit, and looks?
Just got this one http://www.amazon.com/Woolrich-Mens-Arctic-Parka-X-Large/dp/B005UD8QTE/ref=cm_cr_pr_product_top and like it.
Also at amazon for slightly cheaper (and in more colors): http://www.amazon.com/Fjallraven-Greenland-Jacket-Tarmac-Medium/dp/B00IGMCEVM/
They're running 25% off outerwear over $100, so it came out to about $325 shipped for me.
I'm trying the Goodthreads Men's Down Filled Hooded Parka, which is down to $122.50 from $175 today and the J.Crew Nordic Parka, which is about $205 after Black Friday 50 percent off sale.
Will report back!
I have this one in Medium. 14.49 oz. It looks similar but without a hood. Heavier than I expected the "lightweight" model to be.
https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07C8YCDTG/
I have the 2X regular version of this one from amazon.
