These are the Teva's I have. Nothing fancy but I liked that they didn't have a toe ring (what gave my sister blisters) and that they had added cushioning around the heel.

As for Doc Martens, I would love to branch to different styles, but I always get their boots. I've gotten their smooth, patent leather, and nappa. I have shiny brownish bronze ones, shiny black ones, and regular black ones for normal use, and for fun I have collectors ones. My favorite come from this page I wanted the Bosch or William Blake ones but they sold out so I ended up with the Di Antonio's and I love them! I get a lot of compliments and they are a sure statement piece.

My sister also collects and wears Doc Marten's every day and normally wears white, red, or black. We recently got my neice into Docs as well and she likes the glittery ones, sequin ones, and anything with fun or rainbow colors.

Currently I'm hoping to get some pastel peach colored ones for fall. The best part about docs is that the more beat up they get, the cooler they look and the more comfortable they are.

I guess it depends on your definition of hideous, but if you're not averse to Tevas, I have these Universals in Grenadine and they're super cute (IMO) and great for getting wet. I wear my thicker/uglier black Teva Hurricanes when I go to swim in the river, and they really protect my feet from rocks, etc. For a water park though where you don't really need foot protection, the Universal style is a lot lower-profile than the Hurricane and will look really cute with a bathing suit. I especially like the ones with the white sole because they seem much more feminine than the other styles.

I loooooooove my Tevas. I have a more heavy duty pair meant for longer use/hiking but the soles are super soft and comfy. I would 100% recommend them, I don’t have a standing job anymore so I usually have a hard time standing for a long time at festivals, but my Tevas basically solve my sore feet problem.

They don’t have the crazy arch support that Chacos have, which is fine for me bc I don’t need it, but you’ll definitely see a difference between the two brands. There still is arch support, but it’s not as dramatic.

Really, they’re both excellent brands and it comes down to personal preference. But if you’re having some trouble with the grip texture of Chacos, I think you should give Tevas a try.

These are the Tevas that I have.

I have a Morton's neuroma that was exacerbated by an old ankle injury this spring. I can't wear any of my old shoes.

This summer I bought Birkenstocks, they are damn comfortable and some of the styles aren't exactly like the classic Arizonas (not a look I like, despite the current trend). For more formal summer shoes, I have been struggling to find something... My orthopedist recommended Vionic by Orthaheel, and I tried these but had to return them because they didn't fit right (I have wide toes and narrow heels). But they do have good arch support, and seemed like they'd be really comfortable. Other than that, check out the brands sold at Comfort One shoes. My technique is buying them on Amazon Prime and returning stuff that doesn't fit.

I recently picked up these sandals for a trip to Thailand. I only wanted to bring one pair of shoes so I needed something that would be able to go on a muddy hike but still not scream "frumpy American tourist" when I walk into a restaurant.

They might not fit the climate (my toes would get cold if I tried to wear these in the UK) but they're easily comfy enough to go all day and are actually pretty cute, for sport sandals. Definitely my go-to warm weather tourist shoes.

I'm going to Cuba in the beginning of May and I'm not sure what to wear on my feet. We will be doing a bit of everything, from touring cities to seeing the beaches and mountains, and I feel like I really need sandals because I can't stand my feet being hot. A couple of years ago I went to the Yucatan in June when I was 18 weeks pregnant, and I wore these in white, because I was so afraid of getting overheated while we walked around in the hot sun all day to see the archeological sites. They were very comfortable, but they are so ugly! I'm hoping for something a bit more stylish? Any ideas? Anyone been to Cuba during this season who cares to share what they wore? Edit: I am thinking of getting these, has anyone tried them?

I wear Keens exclusively for my job (a few pairs in 6 years) and well....when eve it’s warm enough in real life. I’m a preschool teacher so I’m on my feet A LOT. I like them bc they are light weight and breezy, don’t make my feet get got, and had zero break in time. They can be kinda pricey, but I think they’re worth it. I’m a female and really love the Whisper style as they are easy to throw in the wash when they get dirty. I wear an 11 abs have a wide-ish foot and find them true to size!

I’ve been wearing this pair of Tevas, but they do require strapping up:

Teva Women's W Tirra Sport Sandal, https://www.amazon.ca/dp/B071WML5NF/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_0BEKBbVRA3VAP

My feet haven’t been too picky about support, thank goodness, so the other pair I’ve been wearing are Ocean Pacific flip flops like these but with looser, thicker cloth straps:

I have Terra Verra in Drizzle. Nobody can tell they're activewear sandals on me! They're comfortable enough for me to count as activewear- I went hiking up/down a 400 m hill in them and then loved how I could jump into the water thereafter since they were sandals. They only downside is that because they're thin strap sandals the footbed does get a little slippery after it's wet.

I also wore them with a dress to coffee farm tours and the pictures came out super cute.

Athletic type sandals, hands down! Something with good support and straps.

For any ladies reading through, I got these ahead of our trip and they were excellent for rainy days and extremely comfortable. I ended up wearing them the entire trip rather than touch my sneakers - https://www.amazon.com/Skechers-Performance-Womens-600-Brilliancy-Sandal/dp/B072T2VSVL/ref=sr_1_4?keywords=sketchers+sandals&qid=1558731550&s=gateway&sr=8-4

I have had tevas for years and I hike in them all the time. Something to note is that tevas are much lighter than chacos, though I believe that chacos are generally more durable. Also when I owned the original style of tevas I got blisters on my feet from the straps rubbing, so watch out for that. Once I broke them in they were super comfy, but I did have to wear moleskin for a little while. I currently have these tevas and I have never had to break them in, plus they are not as clunky looking as the original style. I love them SO much.

u/frogshit · 3 pointsr/malefashionadvice

Teva's and other similar sandals are inherently "sporty" so the leather mixed with the "sport" gives the grandpa tourist look. Other types of sandals like flip flops and birkenstocks are very casual and not sporty. Mixing casual and leather looks nice together.

If I were you I would just get some nice brown birkenstocks. You can't go wrong with them and they will look nice with a lot of summer outfits whereas the Teva's will be much tougher to match well due to the sporty-ness.

A thread I can answer! I seem to have the opposite experience to folks here. Tevas hurt my feet and kept giving me blisters. I really wanted to like them because they look awesome. Merrells look a bit more.. boring? But they are comfortable as hell. I picked up a pair second-hand gently used (ebay) and they've been my go to sandals.

These are the ones I have, the "Merrell Women's Adhera Three Athletic Sandal".
https://www.amazon.com/Merrell-Womens-Adhera-Athletic-Sandal/dp/B01HIZVA94/ref=sr_1_27?qid=1556990562&refinements=p_89%3AMerrell&s=apparel&sr=1-27

I live in a place where it's super humid and hot, far southeast Texas, so that likely impacts my experience with the two sandal brands.

u/singletracks · 2 pointsr/BuyItForLife

I'm currently in Europe and spending a lot of my time walking. I brought these: http://www.amazon.com/Teva-Womens-Northwater-W-Sandal/dp/B00DQUJQQA/ref=cm_cr_pr_sims_t

They've been perfect, although I wish there was a tiny bit more arch support. They are lightweight and airy, and still manage to provide good cushioning and a little bit of toe protection.

My feet aren't very wide, but there is quite a bit of side to side play for me. You may want to try a pair on to see if they work for your feet.

u/PlumLion · 3 pointsr/femalefashionadvice

I have those exact sandals and they're my favorite too :)

You might be able to find some Chacos on sale, or Skechers makes a couple styles like this too here's one for an example

u/Cleodora · 3 pointsr/femalefashionadvice

My Keen rose hiking sandals are super comfortable and waterproof. I have them in the black on black color which I think makes them look less athletic. Most of the other sandals I can think of can’t withstand a lot of water or don’t offer enough support, unfortunately.

u/dammitannie · 3 pointsr/femalefashionadvice

I generally get Clarks, Naturalizer, Cole Haan, and sometimes Dr. Scholls for all my work shoes. However, I never wear the same shoes to commute in as I wear around the office. I have these Tevas to wear during my commute in the summer months, and will wear sneakers or boots the rest of the year. Currently under my desk, I have no fewer than 10 pairs of heels, wedges, and flats that I wear at the office. I live in Boston and take the T or walk everywhere, and have cranky old-lady feet, so I need something durable, with good support for all my adventures.

u/fangirlsqueee · 2 pointsr/Fibromyalgia

First off, I never go barefoot. Around the house I wear Crocs. For sandals, Teva are nice. I like slip on Skechers for daily sneaker wear.

u/pixiespaz · 2 pointsr/femalefashionadvice

I have to say that in my experience- there is nothing that can stand up to a Chaco when it comes to arch support and straps. Perhaps it is worth being a little less fashion forward in this particular instance? I purchased Chaco's with a double strap as I found them to look a little more feminine. http://www.amazon.com/Chaco-Womens-Sandal-Field-Green/dp/B0038WPLOM/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1332793223&sr=8-1

Teva Women's Tirra Sandal,Black/Grey,9 M US https://www.amazon.com/dp/B003AYLPKM/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_i_LL8PCbR0MDH9J

The price varies dramatically from $40-80 on Amazon.

I bought mine on sale at REI for $50.

I also sized down a half size. I'm usually a 10, and wear a 10 in TEVA boots, but wear a 9.5 in this particular sandal.
