I've been baking every weekend for a few months now. My one and only burn so far was while making pizza. It landed on the pizza stone badly and I tried to fix it with my bare hands. I bumped into something in the 600 F oven and instant burn.

The lesson for me was to never stick my hand in a hot oven without a mitt. What are you using to protect your hands? If you're using something like tiny square potholders I highly recommend upgrading to a nice silicone mitt like this: https://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B003V8AMDS/ref=mp_s_a_1_12?ie=UTF8&qid=1479664911&sr=8-12&pi=AC_SX236_SY340_QL65&keywords=silicone+mitt

Edit: and actually make that 2 mitts. Having one for each hand is helpful when handling heavy Dutch ovens.

This has some good ideas. Otherwise here are things you might need (copy/pasted from one of my other posts):

I have a couple of these which I absolutely love https://www.amazon.co.uk/Master-Class-Waterproof-Heat-Proof-Silicone/dp/B001CIOPWI

Best thing about them is they just wipe clean if you accidentally dunk them in your dinner when taking it out of the oven 🙂

Happy anniversary! Mine is coming up next month. My original intro is long gone, but I do know I gifted my very first gift that day, and according to my Amazon order history, that was October 19th! :D

Item!

I think we both need these to take things out of the oven with because, come on, how many people have these. They are AWESOME!

Thanks for the contest!

500F is a bit much for most silicone gloves/mitts. Might work if you need need to hold it for a few seconds, but I'd get something more protective.

I found this Silicone Insulated Glove (which is only $.10 away from Pi). I love how small it is- it would store away much better than a oven mitt.

(Edit to say $.10 away with shipping)

FYI for those considering them, these oven mitts are garbage and you can still burn the shit out of your hands while wearing them.

These are the ones I use. I like them but not sure if they are good enough for a professional environment

My go-to is always a nice bottle of alcohol - For being an adult and some form of novelty kitchen gift (usually animal oven mitts) - for embracing your child side.

Not going to lie, I clicked that link expecting something like this to imply she's crabby or this to convey things a bit more bluntly. Your link is far more beneficial.

Silicone gloves that are heat resistant and waterproof [2] are a god send with BIAB. Lets you squeeze with impunity.

Refractometers are always good, as well as pH meters.

Searching through the early access list, there are a number of food scales on there. Do that.

What I'm on the lookout for is a vacuum sealer and bags. Just picked up a pound of Mosaic and no way to split it.

Adding to my list.

I either use 100% cotton kitchen towels or if I need a better grip I will use something like this.

They do rock. I can't remember exactly but search silicone oven mitts and ull find lots of good options:

Look for Silicone Grip/Pinch Holders. There are several inexpensive products on Amazon. Here's just one example:

A much less elegant solution would be to place a binder clip on the inner pot. I do NOT like this solution because I fear it would scratch my inner pot. But Karen Peterson does have some good IP-related content on her site:

I have a silicone mitt, and one of these:

https://www.amazon.com/San-Jamar-KT0215-Conventional-Intermittent/dp/B0000DE503/

I use the silicone mitt more, but the San Jamar is more heat resistant. Both work with large hands.
