Sure! So we're looking for something casual but classy for cooler weather and frrrrrigid winters, all-purpose wear, youthful but not immature, and most importantly, affordable.

Burberry Brit is a very good start. Burberry London might be worth a shot, too. It's sweeter and richer than Brit, trading vanilla powder for sweet, dark woods. A great fall/winter scent.

Tommy Bahama Men (the old one in the kidney-shaped bottle, not the new fruity one in the flask-shaped bottle, Tommy Bahama FOR Men). It's peppery and woody and warm, unsweet, very manly. Similar to Brit except lacking the rose/powder notes.

Versace The Dreamer - give this one a full wear before you rule it out. At first spray it smells odd, almost like rotting pine needles and burning plastic, herbal and spicy and weird. But after a half hour or so those notes fade and work to give a kick to a gorgeous tobacco, floral, and dry vanilla bean heart. Utterly masculine, but not macho or brutish like some stuff.

Bulgari Pour Homme: a slightly musty tea scent with classy florals. Fascinating and unique without being off-putting or out-there.

John Varvatos Platinum - another nice woody that works great in cool weather with a business casual attire. Dark and semi-sweet sandalwood. I am a fan of the entire Varvatos line and his nose of choice, Rodrigo Flores-Roux. They make fragrances that are simultaneously modern and classic, classy but not dated or stodgy. Also try John Varvatos, John Varvatos Vintage, and John Varvatos Artisan Acqua.

Prada Amber Pour Homme Intense - Woody-creamy and a bit red-spicy, it's a really nice designer fragrance. The skin-saltiness of myrrh and labdanum carries a soapy vanilla/amber/floral heart. As with most of the Prada line, it's a bit abstract and chemical-y but in a good way.

As always try before you buy. I'm making some assumptions about your style and taste recommending these.

Top shelf:
Van Der Hagen shaving brush.
It actually works pretty well, and is my most commonly used one.
Art of Shaving sampler pack brush brush.
I like it, but it seems to take me a lot longer to build lather.
Dolce and Gabbana Light Blue.
Not much to say about it, the wife likes it!
Adidas Aftershave
I like the smell of this one, and it pairs pretty well with the D&G
Coates Lime Shaving Cream!
I love the smell of this stuff! I have Sandalwood too, but it mostly sits in my small chest of things I have for "Another day"
Feather blade bank
Keeps my trash bags from getting ripped open. I have been using it for over a year, and it isn't even half way full yet.

Middle Shelf:
Lady Gillette Safety Razor
This one is the Wife's she loves it and uses it exclusively after she realised how much better it was over cartridges! It did take a while for her to stop thinking that she was going to Sweeny Todd her legs with one.
Gillette Knack Safety Razor
I use this one pretty much every shave. It is fairly mild, but paired with some Sharks it really works well for me!
No Name razor I picked up at an Indian Bazaar for $3.
It has about a 2 inch gap(exaggerating here, but it is huge!) between the blade and the head, so I haven't used it and probably won't! But it is pretty on the shelf!
Styptic Pencil
It works! And gets used!

Bottom Shelf:
Gillette Travel Tech
It has a small mirror inside and an old pack of Gillette blades. Nothing real special but I like it! I haven't shaved with it yet, the handle seems too short.
The rest of TAoS Starter Kit
I haven't used any of these yet, I still have my own soaps, so these kinda just sit around... I should try em though!
Gillette 40s Style Super Speed
I got this off an ebay auction, I haven't tried it out yet either. It came in great shape though! And I plan on giving it a test run tonight!
Gillette Milord
Apparently, it is the same razor as the Super Speed, but with gold plating. Also came in great shape, and I haven't tried it out either!
Shark DE Blades
These are my go to blades! I love em!
Wilkinson Sword Classics
I was buying these guys at Walmart, and I loved em! But then I got Sharks and I haven't had to buy anything else because of how many Sharks I still have left over!
Merkur Blades
I haven't tried these, I honestly have no idea how they came into my possession. They look nice though!
Alum Block
It works great!

>Make Up Kit. (Have no clue though so will search online and decide on one.)

Does she wear makeup regularly? Well good makeup is really expensive and hard to find, especially with foundations and concealers because they need to match the skintone of the person perfectly. If you look up a makeup kit online and it doesnt match her - big fail. You can put together an eyeshadow pallete, a nice set of brushes, kajal, eyeliner and some lipstick (nudes, reds, pinks), some nailpolish. You can find this on the Nykaa App or Purplle.com. If there is a new-u store in town, they have a good collection of drugstore brands.

>Perfume: She wears one daily but a rather cheap one.

Good perfume is a good idea. Nykaa has a very good luxe fragrance selection with many reviews, so do check that out. I love the Body Shop Cherry Blossom EDT and Tenderly by Oriflame.

>So thinking of gifting her a coupon or voucher to a nice hair salon in the city.

Great idea. A good hair salon, a spa anything will be awesome.

My other recommendations will be

  • a handbag, esp if she is working. I love me a good bag. Sling bag, wallet, cute little purse, trendy backpack -
    anything.

  • You can also venture into jewelry if you want (Earrings, a statement necklace etc)

  • Since you talked about makeup, how about high end skin care and bath products? Forest Essentials,Kama Ayurveda, the Body Shop etc. are luxurious skin care/hair care/beauty brands, she will love them. If she works long hours, this will be perfect for her to pamper herself. For example, check [these gift boxes] (https://www.nykaa.com/forest-essentials-facial-essentials-gift-set.html) out. Usually they have a body wash, a body mist, shampoo, lotion, body scrub etc. with exotic ingredients.

  • A small succulent plant is a cute idea. She can keep it in her room or on her desk.

Edit : Oh, and happy birthday to her!

That's a mighty big question there. I won't go into department store brands, as you should really just swing by the fragrance counter at any store and try them. So here are some ones that I personally like that definitely don't break the bank. I stuck to my summer scents, but there's no rules about what you can wear or when.

I would highly suggest researching any suggestion that sounds good to you a bit more on forums like Basenotes just to see what others say, as you always want at least a second opinion before you blind buy anything. If you feel like just trying out a bunch of scents, there are good decant (bigger than samples) sites like Surrender to Chance or The Perfumed Court where you can get 3,5,8mL samples that will last quite a solid amount of time. Long enough to really get a feel for a fragrance as it works on you. It's not a cheaper way to do fragrances, as you're paying for convenience. But, since your only other option is a few whiffs at a department store or a blind buy, there's some good reason to pay the premium.

I'm terrified to recommend blind buys, but if there was ever a low-risk/high-reward ratio winner, it would be : L'Eau D'issey Pour Homme.

Then there's a lighter, basic summer citrus, with enough melon to keep it interesting and enough bergamot to keep it from being orange juice: Ferre Bergamotto Marino I wouldn't exactly call this one similar to the Issey Miyake but would call them too "clustered" if they were my only 2 bottles.

I'm a big fan of vetiver-notes in the summer, as it never sits too close to any other type of fragrance, especially the usual department store suspects (nothing wrong with those!) that you smell often. The best Vetiver circa $50 at any volume, and you get a tub full of it: Comme des Garcons Vettiveru. Green and clean in all the best of ways! But you definitely want to try a Vetiver (any vetiver) before you buy any full bottle. It's a great scent to mix into a rotation but probably not your one-bottle-quiver.

Tech note: the second two suggestions are EdC's but wear like EdPs, which, if you're not reading /r/fragrance, just means they're not as light as Eau de Colognes generally are relative to their more concentrated Eau de Parfums siblings. Terms are just a hierarchy of how much fragrance they have relative to unscented filler used as a carrier. But like everything in fragrance there's not a lot of hard rules.

And for my last trick, try this guy: Generic ISO E Super Don't bother going down the rabbit hole researching this "Molecule 01" as it's branded. I'm sure I'll get yelled at for even suggesting it. But it's nothing fancy; it's a synthetic that's used in a lot of fragrances, in fact. The dicey part is that a company decided to try as a one-note-wonder. Nothing wrong with one-notes per se, except it's a bit dirty charging $150+, implying that this synthetic is derived from moonlight and unicorn dust, when it's a generic $2 chem experiment. So there's a lot of animosity surrounding it. Nevertheless, it has its uses. For one, it's light. Nothing sticky about this on any summer day. Next, it lasts all day. Not like you doused yourself in Grandpa's cologne at all though; it's staying power, not volume. It has this weird way of disappearing for minutes, hours, etc, and then popping up again. Never smells stronger or weaker, but just waxes and wanes during the day. Which frankly I find kind of nice. Finally, and perhaps most interestingly, it layers really well. Throw it on your skin before you get dressed so it's not right up in your face. Let it sit while you do your morning routine. And then use another "real" fragrance (play around!) on your skin after you're dressed but before you leave the house. The synthetic will last forever and subtly change the way your "real" fragrance smells. Not like you hosed yourself with two different bottles. This synthetic in particular is "cedary" so it can darken up some citrus and natural, light, scents. There are other synthetics, including another sold by that ebay link, but I haven't found it to play as nicely. But it does open the door to more experimentation and modification by you as the wearer of any fragrance. Probably not your best solo pick though.

sorry to all the haters, I'm just going with bang-for-your-buck utility here, and there's a solid amount of utility in ISO E super. Note that some people legitimately can't smell it at all, due to the synthetic's physical size, IIRC. Smell is pretty subjective but this guy can literally be a non-entity to some, you included. Hence, another reason to buy the generic (literally ISO E Super mixed with some perfumer's alcohol) and just play with it.

Sorry for the long post. But basically, just have fun with it. Try decants/samples instead of buying a full bottle so you can do a pub-crawl of scents before you commit, if you're on the fence after reading too many conflicting reviews (which often happens.) Good luck!

1: Learn to like yourself. Don't be vain, but do be proud. This makes a big difference in your physical appearance. Really, it does.

2: Be happy. My god, happiness is insanely alluring and people can spot it from a mile away. If you're not happy, use that as motivation to change in order to become a happier person.

3: Be interesting. "What do you like?" "Oh, the usual stuff." Well then, who cares? ...I like taking pictures of city details out of context. That may sound weird, but it's interesting, and it's gotten me a ton of dates for going on photo walks, which often turn into a pub crawl, and that's fun. I've had women tell me point-blank that interesting is sexy.

4: Find a few clothing basics that work for you. Build a wardrobe around a few key pieces. It's a great place to start. Dark jeans that really fit you right. A few great shirts. Start with a few key pieces.

5: Use your camera a lot when trying on clothes, or at home to evaluate what you already have. The mirror lies, but photos usually don't.

6: Smell good, but don't overdo it.

7: Get in shape. You don't have to live in a gym, but you do need to be active.

8: Be yourself. Too many people are fooled into believing that being different is bad or weird. Eff that.

9: Smile.

10: Last, but not least, get rid of any clothes you wouldn't want to be seen in. Donate them to Goodwill. One of the easiest ways to always look good is to not let yourself wear things that look bad. And yet, we all keep ugly stuff in the closet, right? Create a rule where, each time you add something to your wardrobe, something else gets the boot. Don't hang on to anything that does you no favors.

P.S. Good luck!!!

u/themisanthrope · 1 pointr/AskMen

Great contribution! My two go-tos are John Varvatos Artisan and House of Creed's Green Irish Tweed.

I foolishly bought both of them blind upon recommendations on reddit, actually - but I get complimented on them both everywhere I go. I got super lucky.

I would recommend Artisan before Green Irish Tweed (mostly because of the price - GIT is very expensive).

Have you smelled either? I'd be curious to hear your thoughts.

I will definitely check out Diesel Only the Brave for sure. I used to LOVE their Musculine and used it all the time when I lived in a colder climate.

In fragrance there are very select products that Amazon uses FBA self-fulfillment for in Canada. If you check a majority of listings on Amazon.ca they are not FBA but 3rd party vendor fulfilled, which means they are shipped from third parties who pay Amazon a 15% listing commission. We've sold on Amazon prior and were also offered FBA opportunities which we declined.

On a side note, when an item gets popular, Amazon usually likes to take your supplier invoices and go direct and fulfill FBA. You will find they did this with Juicy Couture for example and now Juicy Couture being sold by FBA direct is close to full retail price ( https://www.amazon.ca/Juicy-Couture-Viva-Parfum-Spray/dp/B002XQ1YTK/ref=sr_1_1?s=luxury-beauty&ie=UTF8&qid=1525727159&sr=1-1&keywords=viva+la+juicy)

Happy Birthday!

It's my party! For my party I would love to see this Tokyo Milk perfume. I've been lusting after this forever.

That galaxy palette looks beautiful!

For those with a taste for expensive check out Replica so many great scents and they are on the stronger side.

Everyday wear I'm a fan of Gucci Guilty which is reasonably priced enough for everyday wear.

http://m.macys.com/shop/b/gucci-guilty?id=71834

And for something different it might sound crazy but Victoria Secret sells a men fragrance line called Very Sexy that is very refreshing. Worth a smell for the uninitiated.

I rotate through all of these and am quite fond of them.

u/dogggis · 4 pointsr/malefashionadvice

$60? So where does that fit in the price ranges of frangrances? Is that a good deal?

u/eruptcyber · 1 pointr/SwagBucks

I believe It is this one RawChemistry Cologne, for Him - Bold, Extra Strength Formula 1 oz. https://www.amazon.com/dp/B014G8IYRM/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_i_FB6lDb2RB55NA

u/joshg8 · 1 pointr/malefashionadvice

I love it. It's really pricey in stores and such but on Amazon it's about $120 for 4oz and very worth it IMO.

u/ytown · 6 pointsr/politics

The Amazon Q&A is fantastic.

Mambo Amazon reviews
The only thing better than all these reviews are the people who don't understand what's going on and why it's so highly rated.

u/Nailz509 · 3 pointsr/malefashionadvice

I just recently picked up a bottle of Gucci Guilty and I'm really liking it. Could be coincidence but I got way more attention from the ladies on Saturday night than I am accustomed to (though any attention would be more than I'm consistently accustomed to). Before switching to Guilty I rotated through Diesel Fuel For Life and Le Male, both of which are excellent.

u/MostlyKelp · 2 pointsr/AskMen

It's an interesting cologne but I've received quite a few compliments on dates. It's def no a pheromone/woman magnet.

This is my ultimate favorite.

u/riplox · 7 pointsr/The_Donald

Lol. Check out the reviews. It's either 5 or 1 stars (with some minor 2-4s), yet, even though the 1's outnumber the 5's, it's still a 5-star-rated product.

u/brobits · 1 pointr/malefashionadvice

I recommend lacoste essential, 1 spray from a ~1.5' distance on the chest below the neck before you put on your shirt

u/SeeOhEl-E · 1 pointr/mensfashion

Polo blue is for high school kids or old men. If you like eau de toilette get this: http://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B0056Z278M/ref=mp_s_a_1_1?qid=1397322927&sr=8-1&pi=SY200_QL40

I've used Victoria's Secret Very Sexy for Him for years. I can barely smell so I can't really comment on the fragance, but women always complement me on it.

u/rnjbond · 3 pointsr/malefashionadvice

I'm also a fan of the new YSL L'Homme Libre

u/sed_study · 1 pointr/AskMen

This has served me well.

I went to look up the price for lactose essential on Amazon and this: http://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B000GI0S62/ref=mp_s_a_1_1?qid=1412719429&sr=8-1&pi=SL75 was the first result.

Not sure I want to buy something that has "toilet water" in the title.

u/lovesyoumoore · 1 pointr/fashion

Except on Amazon.

u/f_youropinion · 1 pointr/The_Donald

Here.

Tons of salty ass 1 star reviews from unverified purchases. Thankfully Amazon only weighs verified purchases which sits at 4.8/5. Stay salty.

u/PretendsToKnowThings · 2 pointsr/frugalmalefashion

I was about to say. Their 2.0 oz of Yves Saint Laurent comes to about $35 after the coupon, which is the same as on Amazon.

u/rakkoma · 1 pointr/fragrance

You're kind of vague in your post... perfume is a very individual thing, having said that since she's 18 I would go with something generic like this

u/Theblandyman · 1 pointr/streetwear

Polo Red or Chanel Blue.

Try the Ferragamo scents too, I like those a lot.

Oh, also idk if they still make it but before YSL became SLP, they had some bomb ass cologne I used to love.
