I mean, that's what the Apple one does, so it's possible. Not sure if this is comparable with the nexus line, though

This is a USB-C charger and cable. You get the equivalent of this in the box with the dock.

This is a USB-C to HDMI and USB-A adapter.

These in combination do not hold up your Switch. Yes you can find cheaper options, but they have compatibility issues, or don't provide as much power (meaning you could actually run out of battery while you're charging) or will break your electronics or start a fire.

I'll pay the goddamn $90.

From what I've seen, all of the comparable PC adapters are around $29.99 for just a HDMI adapter and $59.99 for an adapter + USB hub.

They also do not come with any power adapters.

The price that Nintendo is charging really isn't all that outrageous when you just look at the PC equivalent...

Now Apple on the other hand...

What they really need to do is add support for adapters like this:

u/xanadu1988 · 4 pointsr/NintendoSwitch

Fwiw the Apple USB-C adapter that does the same thing is $80 list (but $50 on sale on Amazon). https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00VU2K10G/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_CuWGyb6HVQ1BQ

Here's hoping it's just standard, so we have some cheaper options.

I've read about people having success running their rift off VirtualLink using Apple's AV multi adapter. Many adapters don't work but this one does for some reason. https://www.amazon.com/Apple-USB-C-Digital-Multiport-Adapter/dp/B00VU2K10G

I have this one currently: https://www.amazon.com/dodocool-Thunderbolt-Support-Transfer-MacBook/dp/B0744GZJSH although I don't honestly use it for much. When it's at home I tend to use the Apple USB-C Digital AV Multiport Adapter https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00VU2K10G with an Amazon Basics 7 port USB 3.0 hub feeding into it, although I'm not entirely happy with that solution.

I upgraded for a bit of a complicated reason, but mainly because I saw an opportunity to get the 2016 model at a great price.

For the 2016, my two main dongles are USB-C to USB-A and the Multi-Port Adapter. I got them at a time when they were on sale though. They both work well, but you may be able to find them cheaper.

I think $90 is worth the upgrade though, as long as you think you can get used to the keyboard. I thought it was mediocre at first but within two or three days I enjoyed it a lot. It has extremely short travel, but apple did a good job with the tactile feedback which let me adapt pretty quick.

I have that Macbook and it's working great for music production. I use this and it's a total ripoff and I hate it but charging and using the display at the same time works. I don't know about using two at once like you'd need but my guess is that it'd be fine. I use a regular USB-A hub attached to the USB-A port to connect mouse & thumb drives and stuff.

You might as well list the correct adapter.

I have the same setup, 27QHD and MacBook Pro 2016. I use the HDMI cable with my Cintiq and use this Apple Multiport adapter. Works great.

Oh shoot I forgot to mention. So one downfall, current MacBook's have completely ditched USB for about the past year in favor of USB-C so you're gonna have to get some sort of adaptor to use traditional USB. The official Apple dongle gives you a USB-C, HDMI, and traditional USB port if you go that route and I've linked that below. You can probably find something cheaper but understand you're definitely gonna need an adaptor. I'm pretty sure Apple made this change with their hardware revisions in 2016 so you'd have to go back a couple years to find a MacBook with traditional USB.

I have apple hdmi to usb-c I'm using with my MacBook 12' and when I'm trying to use it with the galaxy is seems to work but on the TV everything is too small. This is why I don't want to buy hdmi cable without knowing that it's working well.

I have the apple one and have no issues with it with using the rift (going on 6 months now):
https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00VU2K10G

It is expensive though and didn't have any luck with USB c extensions (though hdmi and USB extensions still worked).

It took me a while to find this adapter, I should have checked MonoPrice first. I'd searched multiple times but all the adapters are either this same configuration with HDMI instead of DisplayPort, or they come with DisplayPort and every other commonly used port except for USB 3.0 Type A, or if they do come with USB 3.0, then it's Mini DisplayPort. DisplayPort really still feels like the bastard child of AV ports.

Hopefully this will allow people to use the VirtualLink port on their graphics card for both plugs on the headset, similar to how the Apple Digital AV multiport adapter allowed original Rift users to save themselves a USB 3.0 port by using it on their VirtualLink ports.

Couldn't figure this out. I think it is this because USB-C to USB adapters can look like this

What is interesting to me about this, is that to be practical, you have to make your beautiful Macbook (Pro?) look ugly.

Apple USB-C Digital AV Multiport Adapter https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00VU2K10G/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_sACNybVYPS067 but there are cheaper clones on amazon

u/Transmatrix · 1 pointr/NintendoSwitch

It looks like this, but one of the reviews for this device say it doesn't work with the Nintendo Switch. https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00VU2K10G

u/deepfriedasian · 1 pointr/NintendoSwitch

Correct me if I'm wrong... But is the dock effectively just this, except in plastic housing?

https://www.amazon.com/Apple-USB-C-Digital-Multiport-Adapter/dp/B00VU2K10G/

u/celsiusnarhwal · 1 pointr/NintendoSwitch

> If something like this does work I would go for a reputable brand.

Apple sells exactly this for $49 on Amazon.

u/yahmad · 1 pointr/NintendoSwitch

Does the Switch Dock just function as a USB-C dongle with and HDMI output, USB 3.0 port, and USB-C port? It sounds a lot like a dongle you would buy for the new MacBook Pro.

If this is this is the case, would a dongle such as that function exactly the same as a dock for nearly half the cost?

u/victortrash · 0 pointsr/NintendoSwitch

Really looks exactly like the apple usb-c digital AV multiport adapter. I've got a few around the office...will see if it works!
