I highly recommend this as well! I use two of these synced to the same transmitter (one upside-down in front and one behind so they both point the "right" way) which help eliminate hesitance/uncertainty in drivers around me (several three/four-way stops on my commute) and especially help when I need to move to the left to turn. Only downside is you do have to reset/"turn off" after each turn by holding center button for like two seconds (or you can use forward arrow but the blinking pattern is less confusing I think). I think it would auto turn off after 30 seconds though. Also helps with nighttime visibility--I've had several positive comments from drivers and other commuters too on how unambiguous/helpful it is. You do not need a backpack (can clip to clothes/helmet straps/whatever), but I do wear one and just clip the front to my jacket or pants.
