Yay house!! We're still renting, but we just moved into a mobile home from living in a tiny little townhouse in March. The space increase is like... whoa. It's a whole different world not sharing walls with anyone, so congratulations! Yaaaay assets!

So, I'm actually going to list a few a lot, because I love decorating and it gives me an excuse to play house AND randomly browse Amazon! I played a lot of Sims just for the decorating part as a kid.

Also I get to play around with that Amazon Scout style explorer thing now, yippie! These are not all things that I want or have, obviously, I'm just killing time on Amazon.

Omg thank you so much! This black couch can be limiting, but since you can't change too much, I'd lean into it with a warm red rug like this one or something really basic like this one. Something in white can really brighten up a room. I also love a jute woven/cowhide look but that's if you really want to go southwest boho.

Some choice pillow combos can really help brighten up a room, too! I've seen these a lot lately and almost considered purchasing too.

What I really recommend is getting on Pinterest and doing some research on what works with the vibe you want and what you have. Example: "black couch boho living room" etc. if that's what you're going for. Then you can pick the image that really gets it and recreate it from there!

I would look to subway tunnel art installations for inspiration. Long spaces like this are uniquely suited to linear art that changes as your perspective changes along the way.

Something rhythmic/repeating that helps mark your progress would be nice. A textured or repeating-medallion runner rug would be an easy choice. I chose this one for my own very long hallway because it comes in custom lengths (and it's cheap).

Focal point at the end! I like some of these examples.

It looks like the walls are heavily textured, so stencils, taped lines and murals are would be difficult. Maybe use light to project soft colors or subtle patterns across the walls? Or LED strip lights mounted around to the ceiling in the area where it drops down a bit and is quite dark?

Or purchase a series of cheap blank canvases (I like MDF panels or slab doors) to DIY paint in a series of colors and mount kind of like these.

If none of those ideas work, go for fun with a giant Hot Wheels track on the wall.

There’s so many options. There’s oriental, plush beige, abstract, something with a light design and you could pull other colors into it. if you buy through amazon but not prime contact the vendor and ask if there’s a charge if the rug doesn’t work for you. Many will offer free returns. You probably need 7 x9 or 8 x 10. Don’t forget amazon has a 3D view on some rugs so it lets you get a virtual view. Adding other colors needs to be either a rug that just makes the room. Remember you’re stuck with the colors if you change things. A few ideas. The gray you have is very pretty just needs to be bigger.

Thanks! Hmm, I don't particularly like that floral pattern (pattern is too big and too modern) but it's giving me something to think about. I haven't really considered getting a floral rug but I think it could work. Maybe more of an antique vibe...

Do you think a traditional style rug would fit my room? Like maybe something similar to

I have the same setup as you agree the bare wood is too slippery. There are textured grit pads/tape but they are best for use outside like my garage stairs. Not a great look indoors. You can always get a stain for your stairs and mix it with an anti-slip additive (essentially sand) that will make it less slippery, however I have found that this seems to wear down quicker.

I know you said you were trying to avoid carpet...but that’s what I went with. I went with these on amazon. Lots of different colors and sizes to choose from. Just buy carpet tape to put under them. They’ve held up well.

Someone was selling this one on letgo for like $80 and at the time it was selling for over $300 on amazon. Here’s the link to it now. It’s a bit cheaper (:

you might want to add some gray rug in here like this one and your wall actually is perfect for a gallery wall

Try a runner that is either jute or cotton with navy as the main color and a smaller geometric pattern. Similar to this these.

To prevent my dog tracking as much mud into the house as she currently does.

I got a cheap a roll of carpet protector from amazon that I cut to size with a utility knife and put over the places my cat likes to scratch. Initially I taped it down with the double sided anti scratch tape, but I've found that's not really necessary. I started this too late with my old apartment, but so far no damage at my new place!
