Hi!
This is so exciting I've been browsing bags left and right hehe I could keep going but I already had to make a decision on which ones made the cut and it wasn't easy, hope you don't mind I put more than one option. Seeing as it is your first purse you have to take into consideration what size fits your needs better and the design has to be somewhat easy to dress up or down so you don't have to move things around.
Anne Klein makes pretty good purses, I've owned a few and they are simple in design, stylish and good sized. This is one model I've owned and it takes me a bit to fill it all up, mind you whatever the size of the bag you'll always manage to get it pretty full, which can be bad for the shoulders... nevertheless space is always welcome.
https://www.amazon.com/Anne-Klein-Perfect-Tote-Medium/dp/B01HCN0ZXE/ref=sr_1_3?s=apparel&ie=UTF8&qid=1485650514&sr=1-3&nodeID=3421075011&keywords=anne%2Bklein%2Bhandbags&th=1
Here's another Anne Klein with a beautiful design, I feel it's a bit more modern, this one has a zipper which I recommend if you're a bit clumsy like me, it's always a relief when you drop your bag or go to a crowded not so secure place, make the thiefs work harder for your goodies. Also, it has a long strap which is always convenient, I used to hate the bags with small handles and a big strap, but then I got one and realized it's so convenient to have the option of swinging the bag cross body and the purse still looks stylish with it, doesn't compromise it at all. https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00MPG3P5Y/ref=wl_it_dp_o_pC_nS_img?_encoding=UTF8&colid=1LVA55GNH0URO&coliid=I32T5CIH1WG6OW&th=1
This one is a bit more flashy than you'd probably consider, but it's got a mad discount, it's pretty lovely, decent brand and I bet you'd get many compliments on it: https://www.amazon.com/Calvin-Klein-Raffia-Saffiano-Chevron/dp/B01KLVREL0/ref=sr_1_68?s=apparel&ie=UTF8&qid=1485662580&sr=1-68&nodeID=15743631&refinements=p_89%3ACalvin+Klein
I saw this little thing that I think is pretty good to keep at hand just what you need, not bulky at all, pretty design and the material is easy to clean and preserve: https://www.amazon.com/Travelon-East-West-Satchel-RFID/dp/B01LDCZJ2M/ref=sr_1_297?s=apparel&ie=UTF8&qid=1485663063&sr=1-297&nodeID=2475901011&keywords=purse&refinements=p_n_feature_eighteen_browse-bin%3A14630392011

Finally, this is a perfect little thing to own for a big purse because with everything that goes in there, it gets hard to find things fast or things lose their lid and catastrophe ensues. https://www.amazon.com/HDE-Expandable-Handbag-Organizer-Handles/dp/B00JXMEUP2/ref=sr_1_4?ie=UTF8&qid=1485649561&sr=8-4&keywords=bag+organizer+for+purse
I hope this is helpful, it's been fun searching for your specifics :)

I love Fossil bags since they are quality for a relatively good price unlike some big popular brands. My first purse as a teen was Fossil and it still looks great! I love their crossbody, the Sydney Satchel, and I own it in black (mine was an older model, the new one has a better design IMO) and it has lasted YEARS and looks great. I know you said crossbody and I've found T J Maxx to just about always have their crossbody bags.

Yes to Fossil. I've had one of their laptop-sized bags in heavy daily use for 5 years, and it's just finally getting tattered. It still gets tons of compliments though. I have a thrifted small crossbody that has been in use for >10 years as well. I feel like a lot of Fossil bags work well for the Indiana Jones aesthetic, like this, this, or this. The quality isn't "keep it as your only bag for the rest of your life," but it's solid. One zipper lost it's pull on my big bag, and one seam popped on my small bag, but in each case it was after heavy use and they were easy fixes that aren't noticeable, which is good enough for me :)

Because of all the shit I lug around and I don't like the aesthetic of a small backpack.

My purses are pretty practical. Most of them are either Lug or similar and are crossbody. Nothing huge, just something with good storage and easy to clean. Like this one.

When I'm dressing up, I need one because even though I won't have as much on me, almost nothing I own seems to have proper pockets. I downsize and use something nice that goes with my outfit but it's necessary since I still need my wallet, keys, phone, and stuff like tampons with me.

Hmm, you know I'm not sure. I'd look in the satchel category on a store website but googling "rounded top handle satchel handbag" only gave ok results.
"zipper satchel" on amazon got me this which is kind of similar and cheaper so try those keywords

Being a woman coming from 4.5 hours out of town for day trips to games, it really sucks for me. I usually take my Kindle and/or iPod to read on the Amtrak, my phone, and my camera to take pics. Then I have my wallet, tickets, kleenex, tampons (sorry guys), and random other things.

Putting it all in a clear bag and walking around Chicago is like an advertisement saying HEY LOOK AT ALL MY STUFF, ROB ME!

TMI alert : plus who wants everyone in the city to know when they are on their period?

I'll probably end up getting a satchel like this and putting some things inside a non-clear cosmetic pouch inside it. Hey, the rules only say the bag has to be clear, right?

Happiness is required in life

  1. My dog
  2. Driving anywhere.
  3. Painting my nails.
  4. Drawing/painting/crafting/artsy stuff

I'm trying BGO for the first time today. It's fun so far! Although I'm dead at the moment.

This purse is just dying to be on my arm

I've bought this purse in a lot of colors. I wear one color for months and then switch when I feel like it. None of them are showing any signs of wear.

Have you check to see if there’s a fossil outlet near you? The bags at the outlet feel just as good quality imo and I’ve gotten some steals there. Similarly I often see Fossil on sale at Dillard’s or Macy’s.

Amazon has it for $200

  • $25 Equipment dress, thrifted. Similar to this
  • $40 white converse, from Poshmark.
  • $35 purse from Amazon. I like how it looks but if I actually wouldn't recommend it because the strap kind of digs into your skin and can get uncomfortable. If I were to do it again I'd buy something like this with a leather strap.

= $100 total. I make about $200,000 a year. So about 0.05% of my income.
