They actually work pretty good -- I laced them around my regular laces, so they don't affect the tightness of my shoe. I've run in the rain with them on, and they are very bright.

Not very good to see where you are going, but very good to be seen by traffic.

A little late to this but maybe nomex is a good option. These laces have been working well while burning brushpiles this past winter. Hopefully they will last through the prescribed burn season.

Yeah, I think one just has to be careful not to get shoe trees that are too large. They should slide in easily. As a guy with narrow heels, I have noticed some shoe trees do have heels that might stretch out my footwear, so I get ones with narrower heels.

If one is getting Modified Last boots, as I own, then that can mean needing to find shoe trees with more flexibility to bend into the boots. I don't own any, but there are designs such as (being sure, again, that it fits in easily, and that the forefoot isn't applying stretch to the front of the footwear):

I used the black ones. To be honest all of them end up grayish due to the amount of reflective material on them. I probably would go non-reflective rope laces for a different pair of shoes if I were to order in the future. But thankfully the black with a load of gray goes REALLY well with this particular colorway.

When you go to a shoe store, you can ask someone who works there to measure your foot. That way you will know where to start on find the best shoe size. Some shoes fit differently so, you might need to go up a size, or you might need a wider fit.
