Hi there, I'm 15 and wanted to get into skating, so I dug up my old target board from when I was like, 10 or something. I'd like some suggestions for new wheels and bearings. The deck and trucks seem fine, but I need to constantly keep pushing to have this thing go forward. The roads here are pretty rough too, so I was thinking like 57 or 58mm wheels?

Edit: Would this be a good purchase?

Edit 2: Just got these. http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00N2059VA/ref=ox_sc_act_title_1?ie=UTF8&psc=1&smid=A192EBGYMAZDO7

I'm currently looking at building my own longboard and returning my current one to its original owner (my freshman year roommate lol)-- looking at wheels specifically, I came across the Powell Peralta Snakes (66mm, 78a). As far as the size and Durometer, they're what I want... But Amazon classifies them as skateboard wheels. Is that anything to be concerned with?

I've been using Skateboard Warehouse's guides to figure out what would be best for me. Really my only question is if it's ok to put "skateboard" wheels on a longboard so long as they're what I want out of wheels.

Thanks!

u/sumostar · 3 pointsr/skateboarding

They're amazing at first, then the urethane crumbles and breaks off. I have 2 sets and loved them until big chunks started breaking off. Apparently this is pretty common based on the reviews I've seen. I don't think they're meant for lots of ollies/flip tricks. I got a set of these to replace them:

Powell-Peralta "Rat Bones" 60mm 90A Blue Skateboard Wheels (Set of 4) https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00168DGXS/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apip_etTSVSEaNlQGu

They're a little bigger but the urethane is higher quality. Throw in some risers and you're good to go :)

Sunset Skateboards Orange 65mm Longboard LED Light-Up Wheels Set with ABEC-7 Carbon Steel Bearings (4-Pack) https://www.amazon.com/dp/B071ZN6DW9/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_i_ZxZ4Cb30H8G1T

Like I said, honest review would be that they won't roll as good as regular wheels but you get awesome visability. Give a little, take a little. :)

These because a nice set of butterballs is always good for a longboarder(even though I've never had any). Good luck in training! Thanks for the contest!

I have no idea how shipping works in Europe, but I suggest Amazon. You're going to have different types of wheels for different types of riding styles. Since it'll be a fairly rigid board I suggest softer wheels, between 75a and 78a. These won't work for bombing down hills or doing any fancy sliding tricks. Stick with a wider wheel, they'll be more stable. Round edges are for sliding, square ones are good for carving and cruising, plus they give a larger contact area (which is v. important for grip). The larger the wheels the faster they'll go but the slower they accelerate, smaller is the reverse. Quick acceleration, lower top speed.

These are my favorite set of wheels so far.

I also have a set of these that I have on my pintail.

depends if you are gonna skate mostly at parks or street. For proper street skating, as in stair sets, ledges and skating rough spots, I like something in the middle, I would get the 53's here for my low trucks: https://www.amazon.co.uk/Ricta-Clouds-Set-Wheels-Size/dp/B00NU7IJ2G/ref=sr_1_1/256-6309153-1596843?ie=UTF8&qid=1478088427&sr=8-1&keywords=ricta+clouds+86a. Still get decent pop but also a bit of a better ride.

It's all preference though, you could go full cruiser wheels and get some high trucks.

Basically bigger and softer wheels = better ride. > 58mm, < 80a

smaller, harder wheels = faster stronger pop for tricks. < 51mm, 105a

So yeh just find your own preference.

My friend and I want to start sliding, but we don't know if our wheels will work ( we don't want to 180 and then flip ).

I have sector 9 race formula wheels.

So, can I slide with these/what changes could I make to my board to make it easier to slide?

My board is a Churchill Suzie with Triumph trucks . . . not sure if any/what else info is needed.

Specs:

  • 2x 6374 180kv motors

  • MBS all-terrain wheels

  • 2x pulley kit (36:13)

  • 2x motor mounts

  • Caliber II Trucks (I have wider Torqueboard 218 trucks coming so I can mount both motors inside)

  • Antispark switch

  • FSESC 200A

  • 2x 6s 6000mAh Lipos

  • Deck from a longboard I bought like 4 years ago

  • Both enclosures were 3d printed with ProtoPasta carbon fiber and TPU washers that vary in thickness to compensate for the contours of the board (my own design).

  • bearings

  • Dual charger

  • other various screws, nuts, wires, connectors, solder, etc

    Total Cost: Approx. $1200

    Additional notes:

  • This was my first time using this brand of carbon fiber filament and I have to say its insanely strong, knocking on the back of the case, which is only 5mm thick, feels like knocking on a brick wall, its nothing like any filament i've ever used before and prints surprisingly well but will destroy brass nozzles (which cost pennies anyways).

  • I've gotten it up to 26mph so far, with plenty of throttle left to go (I'd honestly say I didn't hit over 50% throttle). It's been about 2 years since I've rode my longboard, and I've only tried a friends boosted board once about a year ago, so I still need to build up to going fast. A more experienced rider got it up to 29mph and said he still had throttle to spare. So so far no one has been willing to top it off, I'll report back once I get some numbers. I will say that it accelerates faster than most if not all brand name boards.

  • Yes I am aware that I fucked up my rear motor, I have since fixed the issue... Whoops.

here's a quick list I put together for a solid custom setup.

Deck: Enjoi 8.0 (you could swap this for another deck of any quality brand.

Trucks: independent stage 11's. (note this is in a set of one, so you'll have to buy two trucks)

Wheels: Spitfire formula four's

bearings: bones reds

grip tape: mob grip

Hardware: 7/8". (personally I go to a hardware store and get them a bit cheaper)

Definitely do your research and decide what would be best for you though.

u/UCSultanPepper · 1 pointr/UCSantaBarbara

To me, this is the dream set up for getting around IV:

Bone Swiss Bearings

Bear trucks

Gumball wheels

And any deck you want. As another poster said, I'd recommend a shorter deck because it's easier to manage while on campus.

I used this deck for awhile, and it was awesome

If you want to skate, do get a set up that will make you love it. If you skimp out on parts, especially wheels/bearings, you're going to have a bad time.

Help choose a fast, durable wheel for cruising. Whatever is the best for the price.

i ride a penny skateboard around and they use 59mm 78a wheels. You could get bigger wheels if you wanted, but with so many people copying penny, wheels in this size are pretty easily obtained, and about $10 cheaper than typical longboard wheels ($25 as opposed to $35)

and if you dont have bearings, you can get the stereo vinyl cruiser wheels. those come with bearings

u/LagggyLuke · 2 pointsr/longboarding

Wow. That's very informative, thx!
I have some 72mm Freeride Retros on my current board - maybe I'll start with that, but I definitely want to go bigger that it.

u/blarrick · 1 pointr/longboarding

Oh I've got a fun one! So I'm going to list all my decks/trucks/wheels. Let me know which combination you think is the best for learning my standup slides on.

Decks:

Rayne Brightside

Rayne Nemesis

Sector 9 Lookout

Bustin Maestro 6

Trucks:

Gullwing Charger II

Paris v2 180mm 50*

Rogues

Wheels:

Sector 9 Butterballs. These are the old formula wheels from around 2012, maybe 2013? They are yellow, have a pinup girl as the artwork and are 78a instead of 80a. Can't find them on the web unfortunately, so no link for these ones.

Cult Centrifuge 85a TFR formula.

Sector 9 74mm Nineballs

70mm Snipers

Bustin 66mm premier

Currently the combo I'm using is the Brightside, with Rogues and Butterballs.

u/youfuckingslaves · 1 pointr/NewSkaters

Ricta Clouds 78A

Lucky Bearings

Hardware

Trucks and deck is based on how wide you want I personally prefer 9+ inch decks give me how wide you want it and I will send you the rest. Also please give me your weight as well for proper bushings.

u/CynDoS · 1 pointr/NewSkaters

Everyone here seems to love Ricta Clouds, I ordered a pair because of that for cruising too.

I went with the 86A 55mm so I don't have to buy a riser pad (hopefully, no problem with 54mm so far) they are quiet expensive though.

You might want even softer wheels though, and bigger ones, take a look at these https://www.amazon.com/Ricta-Clouds-White-Skateboard-Wheels/dp/B0049W3TVW/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1473786573&sr=8-2&keywords=ricta+clouds

You would probably need a 1/4" riser pad for those, they are around $5

They use the Abec pulley kit.
