Items are as follows:

  1. Camera is a Fujifilm XE-1. I technically bought it for my fiancé but I've slowly began to adopt it as my "carry-around-anywhere" camera. It's smaller and cheaper than my primary camera and still produces killer images - so it tends to just come around with me, sometimes carried on a wrist strap, sometimes around the neck, sometimes in a bag (which I mentioned in another comment).

  2. Knife is a Sog Reactor. I really enjoy the small size and minimalist feel. Has the essentials: a nice blade, a fantastic setoff pliers, an innovative, interchangeable bit driver, and, of course, a bottle opener. I recommend it - the blade has held its edge really well, it fits comfortably in a pocket, I find myself carrying it much more often than my last multitool.

  3. Flashlight is a Jetbeam (aka Niteye) KO-01. It runs on a single 18650 rechargeable battery - super powerful, runs forever and is IPX-6 water-resistant - (Protects from powerful water jets. So if you modified your super soaker with an air compressor and an aftermarket tip, your stuff is still safe.).

  4. Shades are Kaenon Bluesmasters which you have to believe me when I say are a steal at $150 (in that link). I also have the Kaenon Burnets which I actually favor for more of a stylish pair and treat them a little nicer. I believe it was two brothers who left Oakley to start Kaenon... but don't quote me... and they produce some crystal clear lenses far superior to brands like Oakley and Ray Ban. They may even be better than Maui Jims.

  5. Notebook is a Rite in the Rain all-weather notebook. They make tons of different sizes and styles of notebooks with paper that feels like paper but can be written on in pouring rain... Obviously, then, you need a pen that can live up to that as well...

  6. Pen is a Fisher Space Pen which is a great pen for $12. The all-metal construction, nice clicky mechanism, and ink that works in all conditions because it is pressurized ([it was designed for astronauts](fisher space end astronauts)) make it an ideal pen, IMO.

  7. Wallet is my most recent addition. It's a Trayvax Element which is a Buy-it for-life, Made-in-the-USA wallet to end all wallets. It's made out of cerakoted stainless steel, thick leather, and 550 paracord along with a unique rivet-esque patented button. It holds cash, comfortably 6 cards and a Zootility Pocket Monkey which I failed to include in the picture. Both the wallet and the pocket monkey have bottle openers.

  8. Buds are some older Bose SoundTrue Earbuds which I love for their decent noise-canceling and fantastic sound.

  9. iPhone6

Well, here's what I'd get if I was starting today:

Tippman Commando or Tippman Recon. I have no experience with the Recon, but it's their higher end model with quick change spring and mosfet. I'd love to try it, but I'd probably go with the Commando because I know it's solid.

9.6v nimh/smart charger - Just a standard battery and charger

G&P High RPS mags - I'm not sure which mags fit best in a Tippman, but G&P are usually a safe bet. They're usually a tight fit which usually means good feeding, and they're just good quality. I have had issues with fresh ones misfeeding the first few shots, but if you leave them fully loaded for a bit to wear the spring out a bit it should fix that.

Pyramex i-force - Just good and cheap goggles. Even though I use some fancy fan goggles now, I keep 3 pairs of I-forces in my bag in case I need to lend goggles out or I just feel like using them.

One Tigris mask - Just the best lower face mask. Also have a version with ear covers if you want that. For ear protection, I just use Howard Leights.

Mechanix M-pact gloves - I like them.

Condor Rapid Assault Chest rig - I like it.

Magpul RSA - Just a front sling point

LBX 2-point sling - I like mine.

Boots are really personal preference, but I love my Salomons

Ya'll are awesome, seriously, I can't wait till I get my first paycheck from my new job, I think I'm going to have like 80 hours. I'm going to try and throw an amazing contest like ya'll!

Gift one a Juicer :) to be healthy and what not, if that's too high these would be awesome!

Gift Two Adventure Time Season Two for my brother :)

C'mon...gimme. pretty please

u/RoseInTheSangres · 1 pointr/Random_Acts_Of_Amazon

Because I go through these constantly at camp! Kids seem to gravitate towards an exciting pair of shades.

That's kinda what works for me in trying to meet members of the other gender. When I want to meet guys, I try and meet those who I know I'll share interests with-- so I go to places I love and wear comfortable things that show what I love. When I first lived at my old camp, I wore a Power Rangers hoodie over my uniform. It was a fantastic ice breaker, AND it helped me figure out who was cool... and/or of the right age bracket...

As for what worked on me? Yeah, I love cheesy pick-up lines and bad fake accents. I find the stuff many folks hate to be hilarious to the point where I am interested.

Regardless of the contest, hope you got some entertainment out of the answers everyone posted! =]

These are decent sunglasses, I use them with just the clear lenses so keep the wind out of my eyes, clear so I can use them in all conditions. It's a safety thing, definitely not a waste of money at all. If you get shit in your eye from riding without them and crash it could be bad.
Lunar R2 and Cateye tl-ld610 I have both and would definitely recommend them.
I'd also recommend a saddle bag to put 2 spare inner tubes and a small pump/co2 inflator. I can fit my velochampion hand pump in my Topeak small saddle bag, it's great. Also have a Lifeline CO2 inflater, cheap and works just as good as the pricier ones.
I'd also recommend a couple pairs of cycling shorts, I got some of these, very comfortable and a good price, Dhb are decent quality and don't break the bank.

First of all, in using polarized lenses you should notice a pretty drastic decrease in eye-strain (a known cause of migraines), especially if you don't usually wear sunglasses. You can further reference this here, (https://www.mayoclinic.org/diseases-conditions/eyestrain/symptoms-causes/syc-20372397).

Also, if you have a problem with the extra cost of polarization I got really lucky recently with a pair of sunglasses from this company (https://byzasusa.com/products/amalfi), and they don't charge extra for polarization. They're roughly 100 cheaper than a new pair of polarized Bans, and, if you'd care for my opinion, better constructed. (I got the blue lenses and they've proved to be really relaxing on the eyes as well.)

Raen Optics (http://raen.com/) also makes some reasonably priced polarized sunglasses (the polarization is about an extra 20-30 bucks on average), and I've heard good things about them comfort-wise. They have a pretty large assortment in terms of color (lens and frame) too.

That said, I can vouch for the RayBan G15 as being a reliable lens for the sun (they are a bit heavy though [ they're glass] and, depending on the frame you get, could contribute to the protraction of your migraines). But, do make sure that you get them discounted like jetxobri recommended as they are quite overpriced.

p.s. If you're looking to go overboard on eye protection make sure to check these out, (https://www.amazon.com/Julbo-Vermont-Mythic-Sunglasses/dp/B00VAH8X9C). I have had a pair for over a year and, while they're absolute overkill, the level of protection achievable with these sunglasses is unmatched. However, if you do plan on driving (I noticed you said you don't often), the leather guards make it a fair bit difficult.

I love these. I have the lens set that comes with foto igniter and I LOVE it. They fit great, I like the lens options and quality, all around great set.

As the others said, layers. The three things I'd suggest getting are:

  1. a layered winter jacket. This is generally something like a fleece jacket that zips inside a waterproof shell. You wear both layers when it's winter to keep warm and dry; the rest of the year, you can separate the layers and wear the inner jacket to keep warm or the outer jacket to keep dry, as needed.

While I rarely bothered in upstate NY, you might also consider silk thermal underwear. You can wear it underneath your clothes for another layer of warmth if needed and it doesn't add much bulk or restrict movement, which is nice.

  2. boots. You're going to have to shovel snow, and you'll want to wear boots while doing it. While it's nice, they don't have to be waterproof. Pick up some thick winter socks while you're at the boot store. If your boots are thin or you're going to spend a lot of time in them, consider getting a pair of winter liner socks, which can help keep your feet warm and dry.

  3. gloves or mittens. Again, you'll be shoveling snow; in this case, you'll definitely want something waterproof. My personal favourites (and, actually, the favourite of my entire extended family after I bought everyone a pair) are these Gordini Aquabloc mittens. The velcro keeps it snug around your wrist; the knitted bit on the wrist tucks nicely into your jacket, so snow doesn't go up your sleeve or down your hand; and OMG they're warm! They also apparently make them in gloves as well, but I've never tried them.

Other winter advice for upstate New York: get the tread on your tires checked before your first winter there, and check whether your battery needs replacing. And in our car, we always carried an ice scraper, a big bag of kitty litter, a snow shovel, a car charger for the cell phone and the phone number for AAA. (Even if you're not a member, carry the AAA number for your area. If you get stuck, you can call them, sign up for a membership over the phone and immediately ask them to send a truck out to you.)

There're a bunch of other recommendations for stuff to store in your car during winter -- blanket, food, water, those little chemical heaters you can 'break' open, etc. And none of those are a bad idea. But for us the very minimum were things to get us out of the snow if we got stuck, and to call for help if needed.

Finally, if you wear glasses in real life, consider getting a pair of Solar Shield sunglasses (the link is for grey lenses, but they also come in blue, orange, etc). At times, you'll be outside when it's snowing or drifting. The drops will get on your glasses and then you'll find yourself trying to clean your glasses while wearing gloves and winter clothing. Not fun. The solar shield glasses are worn right over your regular glasses, so you can pop them on before you go out and take them off when you get inside. They also do a nice job of blocking sunglare from the sides and overhead.

I hope you enjoy the snow! :)

What is your budget? You can sometimes find these at outlet prices, and they of course work great as safety glasses and fit incredibly well:

https://www.amazon.com/Oakley-Mens-M-Frame-Sunglasses/dp/B002EL3122

>Tested and qualified as true safety glasses, this lens/frame combination meets all ANSI Z87.1 standards for clarity and impact resistance, as well as the protection criteria of Canada’s CSA Z94.3-02 standards.

i like spy sunglasses. they're pretty good quality, but you're ultimately still paying for the brand name. I like the "helm" glasses; they're the squared off wayfarer style that i think fits my face a little better.

anyway, they're good glasses, imo. the arm things (industry term) can be replaced, which can sometimes be annoying because they separate. i dunno, i'm not really partial to that feature, but i honestly get compliments on them all the time. i own one pair, and will probably buy another at some point.

edit: some color styles are more expensive than others.

Happy belated birthday!

  1. Your dad should get you this because it's cool and unique! How many other people can say that's what they got for their birthday!

  2. I want these because they light up, there is only one left in stock, and my daughter will LOVE them!

  3. welcome home

  4. Always have a light jacket because you never know when a warm day might get chilly :-)
u/Karmakerosene · 2 pointsr/Random_Acts_Of_Amazon

A hat that will keep the sun out of your face - The sun is not your friend. Sunny days may be beautiful, but they're dangerous! As you know, sun is pretty bad for your eyes and skin. So be sure to be wearing a hat that will shade your face. Also, in addition to the hat, don't forget sunscreen and sunglasses.

As a pale-skinned person, I have learned to do all I can to protect myself. Sunburn is no fun at all! But even if you don't burn and only tan, it's still not good for you.

Well, here's to a sunburn-free vacation! Cheers!

u/Sieberella · 2 pointsr/Random_Acts_Of_Amazon

Hey! I live there! It's an awesome place! :) You are definitely going to need some sunglasses and sunblock. The sun is wicked strong here and you'll get a headache if you're outside in the sun too long without them. And I always take a roll of TP with me for road trips, you never know when you're going to need a quick stop! Thanks for the contest!

u/DoubleTrump · 1 pointr/CampingandHiking

Julbo Sherpas are fantastic. I bought them for climbing, but they are great for any outdoor stuff. They stay on really well, are cheap (you can usually find them for 30 dollars somewhere), and block a ton of light for people with sensitive eyes like me. Also, the leather sidepieces are removable if the peripheral vision issue worries you.

u/SirElkarOwhey · 1 pointr/AskMen

I broke mine in Florida and my dad loaned me a pair of those fit-over-your-glasses sunglasses that old people in Florida wear. (These: http://www.amazon.com/Solar-Shield-Fits-Over-Sunglasses/dp/B000TJQPVA .)

I liked them so much I bought a pair myself. My eyes just feel so much more relaxed on sunny days when they aren't getting blinded from the side. (I guess old people learn a few things over the years.)

u/CaseyDoran · 3 pointsr/Stargate

I got these a few years back for a Jack costume. They're pretty decent but I turned out to need prescription sunglasses so they're just on the shelf now. Good for fishing on occasion though.

u/asciiaardvark · 1 pointr/CampingGear

[These](https://www.amazon.com/my favorite sunglasses/dp/B001O0DN4U) "glacier" glasses are my favorite I've ever tried. The leather wrap-around shade really helps in extra-bright conditions making them better than normal sunglasses. But they're not a complete seal so they're still breathable, unlike goggles so my eyes don't sweat in the summer.

I mostly wear them at Burning Man & Frostburn (February burn in PA/WV area), but they're also light enough that I sometimes wear them with steampunk gear at cons.

u/nateyboy22 · 2 pointsr/malefashionadvice

I'm assuming these are the classic clubmasters. They make a slightly smaller version of these called the "new clubmaster" and they'd probably fit your face better. The model is RB 2156.

u/turkish112 · 1 pointr/airsoft

Your goggles cost $180. What kind of cheap assholes do you play with who can't afford a $200 primary? Well, I suppose you do have it better than me- the closest place that I'm aware of to play is ~3 hours one way.

u/MattRoy · -1 pointsr/malefashionadvice

Those look like clubmasters with prescription lenses. The wide known brand for those is "Ray-ban" here

u/Costco_Law_Degree · 1 pointr/space

I think what you are referring to are solar shields.

u/FrailRain · 1 pointr/Random_Acts_Of_Amazon

What's more summer that a giant yellow ball of explosion blinding you all day long? :D

I don't like being blinded....BINGO!

u/jlchimera · 5 pointsr/Anxiety
  1. Yours IS a genuine concern. Anxiety is a real, well-documented medical condition. And it sucks, for real. No more "silly" than diabetes -- we don't shout at people for not digesting sugar approriately and you should not feel guilty for anxiety.

  2. Your employers should also be sensitive to your condition, even if he weren't related to you.

  3. Congrats on having the supportive partner.

  4. Remaining on the shop floor during a breakdown/attack seems like an unreasonable responsibilty. I presume you're permitted bathroom breaks? That's usually what I do to get away while I'm at work.

  5. Sunglasses are a second option for the floor -- something wrap-around, that can obscure your eyes if you've been crying. (I have Julbo Sherpa's. http://www.amazon.com/Julbo-Sherpa-Mountain-Sunglasses-Spectron/dp/B001O0DN4U)

  6. Hang in there. And try not to be so hard on yourself. There is a difference between addressing your anxiety responsibly and beating yourself up for no good reason.
