yeah, now I need to find somewhere to stretch it out even further.

the phone mount works pretty good, this is the setup https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07CG54ZXH

Something like this might be all you really need. You're not going to get amazing quality without paying for it. This is especially true with optics of all sorts.

For something a little different I like a Pilad 1x42 Red Dot
I have mine on an AS VAL and I really like how it works. My favorite part is the “T” shaped reticle (has a “T”, “T” + a dot, and a dot by itself)

Because it’s open I find it’s very quick to use, and doesn’t give me any sort of tunnel vision. More of a personal preference though.

u/Doc308 · 1 pointr/longrange

This doesn't quite apply to your immediate needs, but if there is ever a chance that you'll shoot with a spotter you'll want a spotting scope that is capable of reading trace, which means ED glass. That'll mean a higher price point. Something like this.

u/wildcam · 1 pointr/photography

I'm considering this one. I didn't want it to be too expensive because I have to accept the fair chance that it won't be where I left it when I come to recover the SD card.

u/CrackerJackJack · 1 pointr/telescopes

So when it comes to spotting scopes (since I can't find a focal length) if it's a decent/ reputable brand, like Celestron, etc. Does that mean that the advertised magnification of say 20x-80x would be the same as a telescope with the math that equates to 80x? In short, is 80x just that, 80x, regardless of the device or combination to achieve it?

so for example this one or this one or even this

I'm looking at some on Amazon for about $288 http://www.amazon.com/RSM-Russian-Mosin-nagant-Sniper-Scope/dp/B00H9VGGS8 , hoping this thing will be worth the money

I appreciate you backing me up bud. Cause of what you said I looked it up. Pilad appears to be the manufacturer? But "weaver" defo refers to the mounting interface. On amazon you can find P1X42 "dovetail" and "weaver" models. "Weaver" is a ᵗᵉᶜʰᶰᶦᶜᵃᶫᶫʸ ᵉʳʳᵒᶰᵉᵒᵘˢ synonym to refer to 1913 "Picatinny" rails. I think Weavers were close enough to be used on picatinny or RIS rails and eventually just became synonymous.

the mor u kno

Admittedly I know nothing of what spotting scopes are good and what ones are crap. That being said my in-laws picked one up for me (for no particular reason other than I like guns). Its a Simmons 20 - 60. Link here. I like it... although I really have nothing to compare it to.

u/xxxJakkxxx · 3 pointsr/guns

I recently got an inexpensive spotters scope and took it to the local pit to play around with. I didn't need it for the distance I was at but wanted to fuck around with it. I also got an adapter to attach my phone to it so that I can take pictures and video, also known as "digiscoping". I mainly use it for watching nature because I go for hikes and to parks more than I go shooting.

The scope was on a tripod about 3 feet away and it still shook like I kicked it from the shot. I honestly don't know if I hit the target or if I just got close enough. There's no noticeable extra hole

This is the mostrosity I was shooting(fite me irl)

This was at 50 yards using 60x on my scope. I was fucking around with my phone's "slow-mo" function but it didn't really slow it much. The target is a 2" round hangin target from Newbold Targets.

ps: yes, this is just a shitpost but I'm getting tired of seeing all of the posts bitching about the admins so figured I'd try to get some happiness out here. Everyone loves modified Mosins an shitposts

Edit

In case anyone wants a "cheap" spotters scope setup

Redfield Rampage 20-60x60mm. It's $186 and comes with a small tripod. It's a company owned by Leupold.

Gosky Universal Mount. It's $21 and comes with a universal mount to attach your cellphone to a scope/spotters scope/binocular and a shutter button for phones so you can take pictures and videos from away from the phone and without shaking it.

The quality of the video, including bad framing, is my bad because I was still getting used to the setup. It can do much better than shown in the video.

u/greenfruitsalad · 1 pointr/HomeNetworking

wouldn't this be cheaper and easier to install?

u/no0neiv · 1 pointr/GH5

Hey, I modified one of these a few years back: https://www.amazon.com/Stedi-Stock-Shoulder-Stabilizer-Spotting/dp/B004816LZA and it still serves it's purpose well! I've gotten plenty of compliments and questions about it over the years. I bought a simple 15mm mount, plate and rod setup to go on top of this. I had to glue some rubber to the top of the stock for better grip on the mount, but that was a breeze (it's still attached for the record). It's almost literally run and gun.

u/ban_me_bro · 2 pointsr/ar15

$150 is still tough. maybe catch a deal on something like a Bushnell or a Nikon.

If you don't need a name brand, you can give Primary Arms a shot.

u/DoesntFearZeus · -1 pointsr/ar15

If it was a real ACOG it wouldn't say made by ACOG. This thing screams knockoff. If you're going to spend that kind of coin, use a more reliable model that says made by Trijicon at least.

Better choice: http://www.amazon.com/Trijicon-ACOG-Scope-Illuminated-Horseshoe/dp/B004VSQ5G0/ref=sr_1_1?s=sporting-goods&ie=UTF8&qid=1376318426&sr=1-1&keywords=Trijicon+ACOG+3x30

u/dragonlax · 2 pointsr/guns

Here's one.

u/inkista · 1 pointr/AskPhotography

Dunno if this is what you have mind, but there are rifle stock-like camera mounts, some of them pretty darned expensive. But if it's the overall weight of the camera, a tripod and gimbal mount might make more sense.

Or, getting a smaller/lighter camera, maybe if she's using a dSLR. A micro four-thirds camera has a 2x crop factor, so a smaller/lighter lens can be used to get an equivalent FoV.

u/Lost_Thought · 1 pointr/guns

Here, Here and Here, though i would pick a $10 binocular over a $30 spotting scope. (based on experience with both)
