The trick is to go through the irritating rigamarole of trying on a million suits that don't fit correctly until you find one that does. Then note the brand and always go right for that brand. For me it's calvin klein and kenneth cole. I've got a slim boyish figure and these work for me. For you I'd try some of the suit styles that market to Asian men, who tend to be shorter and slimmer. Some of the ones on amazon are even pretty affordable: MOGU Mens One Button Suits 3 Piece Suit US Size 30(Tag Asian Size S) Light Gray https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01EL3KDW6/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_FZlFzbWVM21XA

When buying a suit the most important fit is the shoulders. You want a jacket that fits your shoulders. Everything else can easily be tailored. Waist of the jacket, length of sleeves and trousers, etc. It's a big outlay of funds in the beginning for a trans guy to buy a suit, and that sucks, but it's worth it to get one every other year or so IMHO. And sometimes you get lucky and find sales or the perfect thing at a second hand store. Macy's does a BOGO suit sale every year. I love suit shopping at Macy's even though it does tend to be spendy. Maybe try going in at like 10am on a Tuesday or something and telling the sales associate you are trying to figure out how to find a good fit. There are a few guys at my local Macy's who know I'm trans and love geeking out about suits with me. It's worth it to find those guys at whatever store you choose and find out when they're on shift to go shopping.

Anyway, for a starter suit I recommend looking into Asian brands on Amazon and checking out suit separates at H&M. When you're ready to upgrade to something really nice, hit your local Macys at a nonbusy time and forge an alliance with the sales people and they will get you hooked up :)

(And if you live in the Maryland area, let's go suit shopping!)

> worried that a cruise would be a week spent trapped with 3,000 people who've never lost sight of their tour bus.

This is pretty much exactly what a cruise is.

Cruising is like Disney World for adults. It's pretty much all hand-holding and mediated experiences. Cruising is life with all the rough edges sanded off. Most of the ports are indeed tourist traps. If you repeatedly dump a few thousand tourists into the same spot it will pretty much turn all but the most resilient locations into generic 'cruise ports'. Obviously, you can ditch the tours when you get to a port, head out of town and find your own fun. (We do it at almost every port.) But onboard and overall, your best bet is just to embrace the mindlessness and spend the week enjoying the lack of stress.

Here's the part where I tell you why I keep getting on these damn boats:

For all the various shortcomings of cruising, there really is quite a bit to do on the ships and the staff does an excellent job of making sure you have absolutely nothing to worry about. Find whatever appeals to you most and concentrate on that. Relaxing with a good book and watching the sea go by isn't the worst way to spend a few days.

Personally, we split our vacations between the enrichment/adventure trips and mindless indulgence. Cruising is decidedly in the latter category. It's enjoyable, you just need to walk on with the right expectations. For all the marketing and folks who will insist otherwise, cruising is not really a 'something for everyone' vacation. They're more of a lowest-common-denominator (and I mean that in the most loving way possible) vacation. It's not deep. It's not healthy or enriching. However, it is fun. It is cheap. It is easy. It is utterly devoid of stress and judgment. Have a cocktail for breakfast. Spend six uninterrupted hours sitting in the shade with your kindle. Hop on Amazon, get the most ridiculous suit you can find and enjoy 'formal night'.

Anything you need is a 5-minute walk away ...and if that's too far they'll bring it to you.

In that case, to Amazon we go!

You don't need to spend $250, look around the interwebs, make sure to read reviews before making any decisions but I think looking online could prove very helpful for you, good luck! I know that some people are afraid to get cloths without trying on first, but I've never owned a suite that I haven't had to get at least slightly modified to fit correctly so they'll probably end up at a tailor either way

I hope you and your friends can find some that work for all of you!

What up dawgs, I appreciate the comments (glad the outfit worked out)

I’m getting a couple messages regarding the fit. If you wanna be Igor you will need:

u/Yeabarron · 1 pointr/malefashionadvice

Agree with that solid + solid is a perfectly good combination. Solid + pattern usually works as well. Matching patterns (other than solid) is probably bad. Any two loud patterns are probably bad. A loud pattern and a subdued pattern might work -- when in doubt, look for a second opinion.

And in my opinon, three points below are important:

u/Rpup1529 · 3 pointsr/tylerthecreator

i’m doing the same. i found 2 suits on amazon. one only has like a dark blue and a lime green, like the only ‘igor’ color suits. that one has a max of $45. the 2nd one is more pricey, topping at $66, but it has more colors, there’s like 3 shades of blue, a red, a nice pink, and a black. so obviously pay more, you get more. but yeah. none of those prices include shipping btw.

1st suit: Mmmmmm
2nd suit: Cloudstyle Men's Suit Single-Breasted One Button Center Vent 2 Pieces Slim Fit Formal Suits

I have one of the suits that are currently on sale on Amazon. Lightly used, worn under 10 times. Dry cleaned once. Owned in a smoke free home. Kept Macys coat hanger since purchase.

Thats the one I have. 42S Never altered. Amazon wants 195$. Ill take 150 shipped to CONUS. If you have some interest let me know and I am happy to take any pictures you would like or answer any questions to the best of my ability.

You might laugh, but I've had great success with Georgio Cerruti suits. Buy one online and then pay to have it tailored to you. http://www.amazon.com/Button-Super-Extra-Black-Dress/dp/B001IB0NCA/ref=sr_1_11?ie=UTF8&qid=1425427956&sr=8-11&keywords=mens+suit+super+150

u/duffman13jws · 4 pointsr/frugalmalefashion

I bought this suit yesterday and the one I linked was in the suggested items. Seems like too good of a deal to pass up for a designer label 100% wool suit. I would think it can't be any worse than your average Jos A. Bank suit.

Reviews say it is more of a modern fit than slim fit FYI. Anybody have any experience with them?

u/TigerScream · 1 pointr/frugalmalefashion

Right now, I'd grab one of these 100% wool suits that were just marked down, and use the email 20% off as well to get them around $150.

You might also want to look at a J. Crew Thomson suit. It's only cotton, but if you're planning on doing some dancing it will keep you cooler. The dark charcoal is on sale for $175 for the top and bottom, plus shipping. If you wanna be super classy you can grab a matching vest and will probably be the only guy at the prom in a 3-piece suit.

u/ShortStoutandBitter · 1 pointr/frugalmalefashion

Found this vendor on Amazon yesterday. Reviews for these suits seem pretty positive, given how cheap the suits are. Thinking about buying a Tan suit, just to see what the quality is like. Thoughts?

u/klew3 · 4 pointsr/frugalmalefashion

Those with fully synthetic materials will probably have poor breathability, movement, drape, etc. If you only need a suit for the occasional funeral sure but if you want a suit to last you with even semi-frequent wear you're better off getting something from jcf. You're definitely getting what you pay for here and check camelcamelcamel or another price tracker to get an actual idea of the value of the suit but it's likely to not have any price history so hard to say.

The few full wool ones like this might be a decent buy.

Expect a $50 minimum add on for tailoring.

u/Minivil · 2 pointsr/joker

I bought this one for my son’s costume (with a separate shirt and gold vest): MAGE MALE Men's 3 Pieces Suit Elegant Solid One Button Slim Fit Single Breasted Party Blazer Vest Pants Set https://www.amazon.com/dp/B073TWMFV5/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_i_N4yPDbRMZBN75

Any luck with Amazon? Saw this CK 100% wool for cheap. Free returns worth a shot https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00SZXEQ2W/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_i_tzJYCb8SGXTMH

u/TheLawIsi · 6 pointsr/weddingplanning

Honestly JC penny is selling suits around the same price you would rent them at right now.

150$ for the whole suit and I think you can get cash back if you use ebates.

150$ as well

or 62$ for the jacket and below it says matching pants are 40$

That amazon link would be around 100$ for a suit you can keep to me that's a better deal than renting(and around the same price). I know you say your friends have no need for a suit but I mean what if they are invited to a wedding last minute or have to attend a funeral or a spur of the moment job interview its good to be prepared.

u/freeweddingphotog · 1 pointr/weddingplanning

I think even if you just had a white long sleeve button up with a vest and nice slacks, that would be super hot.

ROLLED. SLEEVES. 🤤

It’s casual, but simple and I think it would work.

Edit: grey pants (silver?) and a nice scarlet vest.

Edit #2: It’s nothing like I described, but this is kind of cool. I would find something similar at a suit shop.

u/SolidPalpitation · 1 pointr/malefashionadvice

Hey,

Bought a suit like this at Mens' Wearhouse the other day. First, holy crap I should just buy suits online and tailor them after... so much cheaper. Second...

The salesman said that cognac is a popular color with gray suits. Any validity to it? Something like this

And finally, I have some pastel dress shirts. A lighter green with a matching paisley, same with a light purple. Would either of these go well with the gray 3piece at a formal event?

u/IamARealEstateBroker · 6 pointsr/frugalmalefashion

38r full wool suit for 40 bucks

38r Mens wool Tux for 67 bucks.

Throw in 30-50 bucks of tailoring on each and you should have a pretty nice Tux and suit for the price.
