Although some people have reported gastrointestinal issues, my own transition was a non-event that lasted less than a week. To put it bluntly, I haven't had a "bad" or "difficult" shit since I started on Soylent. I produce a steady "Type 4" on the Bristol Stool Scale with an occaisonal "Type 3" showing up if I forget to hydrate properly. I did fart a bit more at first but that minor symptom has dissipated like a fart in the wind.
For those people with issues, it seems to come down to fiber intake. Soylent generally has "enough" fiber for the general health of the general population - but certain people may need a bit more. Luckily, Soylent 1.5 (the powdered version) is very easy to supplement for reasons of flavor, texture or nutrition. I personally add a variety of supplements for a variety of reasons.
) - possible antioxidant properties, takes the edge off the sweetness of stock Soylent
Although I am perfectly happy to answer any questions you may have, there are endless threads about all of these questions at r/soylent.
EDIT: Soylent v1.6 will start shipping next week with nearly double the fiber and 5 more grams of protein per daily serving.
Sardines, fish oil supplements (kept cool in the fridge), avocados...
Anecdotal but I've noticed an improvement in cognitive function and alleviation of anxiety from an increase in fiber from raw cruciferous veggies, raw almonds, berries, kiwi with the skin on, steel cut oats. I'm a believer that your gut health is responsible for many different aspects of one's health including mental state and mood. It's definitely improved my immune system too but I've also been doing cold showers/cold thermogenesis for almost a year now.
Probiotic stuff like kimchi, kefir and kombucha are good just watch the sugar content on any flavored versions.
Also I've noticed an increase in short term memory from using a lot more turmeric and black pepper in meals. I crush fresh black peppercorns and use this organic turmeric powder.
Coffee <3
Many Walgreens stores carry turmeric in capsules, like this, in the supplement section.
I'm sure you could order some online, too. Either in pills or powdered form. Another powdered product.
I haven't tried any of those products. They're just examples. I love cooking with turmeric, personally. I just pour it in when I make Indian dals and sabjis. But yes, finding it fresh is another story.
Edit: Amazon apparently has everything. Whole turmeric root is available from multiple sellers.
Just eat it raw. It's best thrown in a smoothie. When tumeric is boiled and ground into powder it is more stable and longer shelf life but you will be missing alot of the benefits raw tumeric can provide. Like tumeric oil for instance which is lost in the boiling process, circumin % will be much higher in raw tumeric than tumeric powder. Blend it in a smoothie with almond or coconut milk (fats increase tumeric/curcumin bioavailability very much as well) that's the best way to get the most out if raw tumeric. I take curcumin supplements and make golden paste with the finest tumeric powder I can find, but I still by fresh tumeric at the store if they have it and use it in my breakfast smoothie. Only reason I know so much is because I made the same mistake, when my local market started selling raw tumeric I jumped on it and bought 2 lbs! I used maybe a 1/4 of that in week and even kept in the refrigerator the rest were all shriveled up and slimey within a few days after. I had thought about processing them into powder but why do that when I can just pay $9 for high quality tumeric on Amazon
Have you checked out Amazon for spices? If you have friends who use the same spices you do, they have some pretty amazing deals on bulk spices. I'm thinking maybe whole cumin would keep longer than ground, but I'm not at all sure what the average person would do with 2lbs of the stuff. But, you might be able to split an order with friends and relatives. Just a thought. 2lbs bulk whole cumin at $0.56/oz, fresh yellow turmeric root $8/lb
I actually use BCM-95 (1 per day) + I use turmeric in my food (I use it in beans, and in a traditional Indian soup). If had to choose 1, it'd be the turmeric. I suppose 1-2 tsp a day of turmeric is about where I'd cap the dosage. Black pepper and cooking in oil (as done traditionally in India) will increase absorption.
If you're going to take plain turmeric, then there is a difference in quality between suppliers.
The stuff my dad gets at the Indian markets is awful. I really hope that was pure turmeric he was buying. I no longer trust it. Very stale, and pale-looking with almost no aroma.
https://www.amazon.com/Simply-Organic-Certified-2-38-Ounce-Container/dp/B0731QGTKT/ - The Simply Organic turmeric is good, but amazon has increased its prices. I've been ordering elsewhere: https://www.vitacost.com/simply-organic-turmeric-2-38-oz-2 - like Vitacost, because I usually get 10-20% off my orders.
Alternatively, the Simply Organic turmeric is actually Frontier turmeric: https://www.amazon.com/Frontier-Turmeric-Ground-Alleppey-Curcumin/dp/B0001M0YWQ/ - it MIGHT be this one, but there are several Frontier Organic turmerics... I don't know the differences - only that Simply Organic and Frontier CO-OP = same.
Edit: Sorry, I probably didn't provide UK-applicable links :(
I've tried a few different ones and as long as they have the 95% curcuminoids (and not a bunch of BS reviews), the effect is significant as in I feel my joints more without it. That said, if you were to get a decent powder with a verified percentage of curcumin Like this one on Amazon and some gelcaps and roll your own (with some black pepper for bioavailability and add your ginger root) you could get it down to .10 a pop which is really nice.
Nice work! I've had no luck getting store bought turmeric roots to grow. I suspect they've been irradiated or may have died at some point. So I bought these turmeric from Amazon last summer which successfully grew into plants.

It's mostly not for eye health but overall health but it has helped me tremendously when combined with ginseng.

I usually do green tea packet with teaspoon of tumeric powder, teaspoon of psyllium fiber, 1/2 tablespoon of brain octave, half scoop of green powder, small slice of butter and add hot water to mix with the ginseng.
i got mine in china town in Philly. here is an amazon link. it's sold as a spice for like 5 bucks.
never tried it on the groin, but i imagine it would still work, as it's the same kind of sore or lesion or whatever you wanna call it. my groin usually doesn't flare up as bad as my pits, so i never tried it. hope it helps.
