You should be able to buy 3/8" fuel line and a tubing bender from your local auto parts store. I would advise getting a roll of the Copper Nickel rather than steel. It's more expensive to buy but it's much easier to work with since it bends easier.

It is an '82 XS400 special. It ran from 77 to 82. I have drag bars, but left all the cables the original length. The horn bracket got flipped upside down so I could access it/install a new one. I made a bracket that attaches to the bar running down in front of the engine to hold to LED fog lights, run by an auxiliary switch. Painted and wrapped the headers and have emgo shorty mufflers. Emgo pod filters, and a puck-style filter for the breather tube nipple. Led tails, led indicator lights, Upgraded headlight. Point of note on the headlight, mine was a sealed beam halogen. So to add a new bulb you have to buy an aftermarket reflector housing from candlepower.

EDIT: Also forgot Oury grips, cafe mirrors, new fuel lines, fuel filter and vacuum tube.

Thanks! We ended up ordering this off of Amazon. Figured buying a longer length would save us if (when) we screwed it up. The manufacturer site does list it as rated for fuel injection!

Would a fuel line such as this LDR fuel line be worth the money?
And does this fuel filter seem to be worth it? What should one look for in fuel filters?

Stainless braided is different than a solid line. Solid is a a metal tube. Something like this, although you only need a few feet, not 25

I disagree. If only parts of the line are corroded, which is pretty typical, a repair is trivial and very safe.

Just cut the line back to a clean section on both ends and then use fuel-specific nylon tubing and a suitable connector for the new line. You can flare it and use the quick connects or you can use fuel-specific compression unions since the pressure is low.

Dorman makes a tool kit (https://www.amazon.com/Dorman-800-300-Nylon-Repair-Piece/dp/B000XQ5IO4/) for repairs and also sells a bunch of pre-made ready to use lines w/ fittings for common applications.

Not many shops would do it because it has a higher probability to fail and the hour it would take then to make the fitting would come close to that compete $400 fuel pump. Here's a page where a guy uses a caulk gun and a flair tool to press in the fittings without buying the $100 tool to do so http://www.nastyz28.com/forum/showthread.php?t=220894. Advance is famous for selling universal crap to keep inventory down, I'd bet that pump is shared in a car or two so they sell it with the doorman nylon fuel repair line to keep people happyish. Using the repair fittings may or may not work depending on how well the person doing the splicing does the work. Personally I'd buy the complete assembly and keep the headace to a minimum, but if I had the tool I'd give it a go to save a few bucks. Here's the tool in question http://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B000E35W1K/ref=mp_s_a_1_3?qid=1451370349&sr=8-3&pi=AC_SX236_SY340_FMwebp_QL65&keywords=nylon+fuel+line+tool&dpPl=1&dpID=41fs4rjwydL&ref=plSrch.

The parts store should have the flair fitting and o-ring that go into the radiator. It's probably the same fitting for carburetor fuel lines. http://www.amazon.com/Dorman-800-160-Steel-Fuel-Line/dp/B002ESTPMU You may have to bend or cut to fit.

u/The_Burt · 2 pointsr/MechanicAdvice

It's a bundy type head. Super similar to this.

u/Un_Pino_Alto · 1 pointr/CherokeeXJ

That's what I use.

I looked at a YJ yesterday with the same problem. He said it had a new pump in it, but expecting it to be some cheap, sub generic bullshit I suggested he order a whole pump kit.

You can find R9 at O'reilly's but it'll be about $20 for a foot or two. It sells in an aisle as opposed to being behind the counter in bulk.

R9 may last six months to a year, maybe longer inside the tank. Its not rated for submersion, but its the closest you'll easily find. Here is what most reviewers say is ten inches of 3/8" R10 for $20. Had to search the part number to ensure it really is R10, or at least listed properly.

the steel line looks similar to the right hand side of line "C" in this image

It measures 5/16" external diameter not counting the ridges.

The stock nylon line also measured 5/16" external diameter, and the new line is of similar dimensions. I tried microwaving a bowl of water to soak the line but was a no go. Tomorrow im gonna try boiling on the stove and heating the end up to soften so itll stretch, if not I'll ask my uncle's if they have a kit similar to THIS at their shop I can borrow for an hour
