yay dachshund stuff! This is the iron door stopper I'm using. I just painted it in like 12 coats of paint to make it pretty and silvery. It would probably look really good in like a matte blue or orange too.

Also I just got these from a friend off my registry. So cute!!

I would buy a good pair of shoes for my son. Most people don't realize how damaging modern shoes are to our feet, with their tiny toe boxes and weird curves & padding. It's hard to find shoes that are actually good (or rather, not damaging) for our feet, and the ones that are available are super expensive. So I would love to be able to spend $30 and get something I can feel good about him wearing on his feet. Wide toe box, flat, and super flexible!

My favorite snow boots for young toddlers are the Kamik Snobug boots. For older kid, any 2 piece snowsuit (bibs + jacket) will work. I like to go with name brands because I know the quality is good. For price, Columbia beats most of the others. Add a fleece hat (with ear flaps) and mittens (apparently cosco has a killer set that all my friends love). For the 8 month old, a fleece or waterproof one piece bunting are good for when you're going out on cold days. For daily outings, a general hooded fleece jacket is good, when you don't want to put on a one piece. I'm in Boulder, if you have any more questions let me know!

Edited to add Socks! I love the Smartwool toddler sock. The toddler ones are super undersized, though, so you'll want to size up there.

AOTD: I'd like to go somewhere over winter break, but my girlfriend and I haven't really decided where yet. Maybe Montreal?

GD1: I'm using my girlfriend's nephew as an excuse to buy these. Does anyone have a better quality and/or cheaper option?

GD2: Thanks to /u/life_glug and his guide to purchasing from Yahoo Japan auctions, I now have a pair of Quoddys on the way. I really liked /u/Deusis's pair, and when I found a similar pair for a great price I just had to jump on them.

Congrats on your sobriety! That's awesome :)

If this doesn't scream childish, then I don't know what does!

HAPPY BIRTHDAY HDATZ! :)

You can get pants to go over the onsies but while my little one was tiny we almost never put pants on him. We would just cover him up with a blanket if he was too cold. You change diapers so often when they're itty bitty that you don't want to take pants on and off all the time.

You can also look for sleep and plays or pajamas that have legs. I personally prefer the kinds with snaps as most of the zipper ones I have encountered are harder to do diaper changes They also make little gowns like this that are really nice for the frequent diaper changes. As far as the tempurature goes... you'll figure it out. Have a check list: hungry? new diaper needed? too hot? too cold? etc. It helps narrow it down. The generic advice we got in terms of dressing was one more layer than I would wear and I found that to be pretty true.

I'm sorry you're feeling this way, but just allow yourself to feel however you feel. I just want you to know that you get to raise her however you want. My mom is super girly and I am not... I wear shirts that describe bacteria, have patterns and most of my shirts are blue. We are also having a girl and her wardrobe is extremely similar. I am not a fan of pink, things that say princess or diva, glitter or anything resembling this category. We bought her this taquito onesie that she will wear with a white bow so people can tell she's a girl. Did people roll their eyes at how "gender neutral" most of her clothes are? Sure. However, she is my daughter and I will choose what she wears until she is ready to decide on what she would like to wear.

Happy birthday! I’m sorry to be one of those asking for something. The winter is coming and my son just has a thick sweatshirt to keep him warm. We’ll be able to bundle him up in layers but we need a hat/mittens for him to wait for the bus and possibly play in the snow. I’ve provided a link for one that I found. Thank you if you can help out. My LO wore this to a wedding when he was 4 months. It's 1 piece w snaps in diaper area, super easy to put on and comfy for him. https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B013R8BIWU/ref=oh_aui_search_detailpage?ie=UTF8&psc=1

Last month, I got this for a funeral we had to go to in the middle of the (sweltering) summer. https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01M3OBCTW/ref=twister_B019MQXO78

It was nice bc the shirt is super light weight and it came w shorts he could wear on a regular day, too. And we ditched the vest halfway through which was fine, he still looked nice w the tie.

Maybe try getting some squeaky shoes. Neither of my toddlers have really given us too much hassle over walking, but it does happen from time to time. However, when they wear their squeaky shoes, they are on an entire adventure of their own and love to walk. Bonus: it’s freaking adorable and you aren’t gonna loose them.

Pro tip, get ones that can have the squeaky function turned off easily so you don’t go insane. While adorable, it does have its limits.

here are the ones we have

My daughter did seal swim school when she was 2-4 months old and, like some of the other mamas mentioned, they required two reusable swim diapers worn one over the other. Some mamas in the class just had their babies wear the swim diapers and that was it, but I put my daughter in a bathing suit. I like the rash guard idea, it makes diaper checks easier.

Keep in mind they will have you checking your LO's diaper every 5 minutes, and if your swim class is like mine, if LO poops during class you have to get out of the pool and can't come back in. Best of luck to you and your LO, swim class was so much fun and I miss it!

i don't know about completely random factor. I'd like at least know what choices are or are they gender neutral designs etc... Also I do care about fabric A LOT. Also 15 pounds is about 19$ and for that price I'd like to know what i get.
I personally like to order designs what i like and see, some of them are pretty harsh and not everybody like them and that's ok. Here is one great example, my point is, not everybody like those onesies, and complete random, it may not be for everybody, but it's fun for sure

u/DorianC0C0C0 · 1 pointr/TrollXChromosomes

Not sure where you're located, but maybe these would work? (some of the other designs are pretty cute, too, - I'm partial to the toucan and zebra, as well as the little monsters - and the price varies by size and design.) I mean.. they say "boy" in the description but someone tell me why green apple print is boy?

Ok - also not cheap (but also not $20, and there's licensing because _NASA logo onesie!!_)

Also this one or this one for saturn.

This one has the whole solar system on it and it's $10.

There's pluto! and neptune!

Unidentifieable celestial bodies that vaguely look like they belong in goth Rainbow brite!

Ok. I have fallen down a rabbit hole, and I need to stop. There's also a lot of crap, but if you just go to Amazon under clothing--> baby and search "Planet" there's a ton of stuff. (I'm on page 5.)

I hope you can find a few things that work? I think it's really stupid how tough it is to buy things that don't come with weird implications about your kid baked in, especially because it's so much fun to look at cute things for little humans otherwise.

It's hard to say - my son was 6lbs 12oz at birth and ended up wearing NB sizes for two months.

Knowing what I know now, I'd go with something like this -

Newborn:

Two packs of these sleep gowns - so you'll have 6 total. This is what my son wore... 80% of the time for a few months. Night and day - they allow the easiest access for diaper changes, especially with a sleeping baby. And no buttons or zippers to fuck with at 3am. Seriously - the best.

One Pack of the Gerber Onesies - so you've got 8 onesies that can be bleached if you need to.

One Pack of Leggings/Pants - so you'll have 4 pants total that you can throw over the onesies if you need to layer up.

One Pack of Socks - this is my favorite brand. They've never fallen off of my son in 17 months. As a newborn I'd put them on and pull them up over his pants and that helped keep them on before his feet grew big enough to hold them up. The pack I got were white, which don't seem to be available right now on Amazon, but if you can find white - DOOO EEEET. No one wants to try to match up 24 socks when they're sleep deprived. Just do white. Also - wash these in a mesh bag so they don't get lost to the sock monster.

Two Packs of Fleece Footies - depending on how cold it gets, fleece or cotton zipper footies. 4 pairs total will get you through the times you don't want to dress baby but need to be able to buckle her into a carset (which you can't do with the gowns).

That's pretty much all my son wore for months, barring like... his Christmas outfit, etc.

For 0-3 Months it's basically the same thing, just sized up. You'll figure out pretty quick which clothes work best for you and how many you need. My son, for example, ended up having horrible reflux. He spit up more than 10 average babies combined - so I think we ended up with around 50 onesies in 3-6 month sizing that all got worn multiple times. We went through around 7 outfit changes a day, even with bandanna bibs. So - lots of laundry. Also noteworthy is that this is when he started daycare, so we needed extra onesies for his earthquake kit, his emergency kit, his cubby, his diaper bag, etc - at least 7-10 onesies stashed places that never actually got used (so... save the godawful onesies you got as gifts but thought you'd never use for these emergency kits!).

But honestly - get you some Amazon Prime and your problems will be solved. Underbuy what you think you'll need clothing wise, and then when it becomes apparent that you need more of X, Y, or Z, load up your Amazon cart and you'll have it in two days.

u/iberostar2u · 4 pointsr/beyondthebump

My son isn’t super chunky yet, but we cloth diaper so I totally get the clothing dilemma!

We love these - they’re bulky in the butt and thighs, but fit around his waist nicely. I just roll the legs up until he grows into them.
