EDIT; I have four wishlists; Things I NEED WL, Rachel's WL, Jewelry WL and Clothes WL. If I specified after the item I posted one of these four, that means it's on that wishlist. Sorry, just trying to get rid of any confusion. Haha.
One thing I have learned over the years is that while quality can be expensive, it doesn't have to be. Also, what one person loves and thinks is the "softest set of sheets ever!!!!" can feel like sandpaper to another person. (OK that's two things. Oh well.)
I have major sleep and texture issues, so I have spent a lot of years perfecting my bedding. After much searching and much cost, I ended up finding out that the Target UltraSoft sheets are my second favorite ever (to some discontinued Lands' End knit, their current knit is not the same.) I love that these sheets come in individuals, so you can buy just the ones you need. On the opposite end of the spectrum, I just got a new pillowcase from Sheex at Bed, Bath, and Beyond, and it is amazing. Someday I will get their Bamboo Sheet Set as my summer/alternate sheets.
For blankets, I'm a big fan of the warm fuzzy ones. Target again has some from a couple of their brands (Threshold and Shabby Chic) but I find they're not quite as good quality as they used to be. I have recently acquired a new SherpaSoft blanket from Bed, Bath, and Beyond which is amazing. It is thick, soft, and warm and happened to be on clearance plus I was able to use one of their coupons for it.
I absolutely love a down comforter, but I'm allergic to actual down. I stumbled across the Pinzon Down Alternative comforter at Amazon, I have had mine for nearly 5 years and it is still in excellent condition. Duvet cover is super personal depending on style, but if you have a thing for flannel, I highly recommend the Pinzon flannel duvet cover as well. Another thing I've had for years and love, the Pinzon 190-gram is my favorite flannel, even above LL Bean and Lands' End.
Due to some surprise issues (hello, holes in my former (not the Target) favorite sheets!) I also ended up going on a spree and replacing some bedding basics last weekend. I have a memory foam topper on my mattress, which means I needed a cotton mattress pad/cover otherwise my topper turned into a heat-generating slab of concrete. I tried something from a local store that didn't work, ended up back at Amazon for the Zen Bamboo Ultra Soft Mattress Topper. Slept on it last night and it was fabulous.
And finally, after a couple of failures, I stumbled across this adjustable! pillow from Coop Home Goods on Amazon, which is absolutely amazing. I like a soft pillow but need neck support, but most pillows are too thick for me. I love that you can simply zip the pillow open and remove a bit of the fill, or add more if you like a firmer pillow (they sell additional fill linked from the pillow page.)
Congratulations on your new house, and good luck with your bedding shopping! A well-attired bed makes the whole experience so much nicer.
This is what I have on my twins and double beds, it covers the larger double just fine.
Same with king beds you can put a queen comforter on them and they still cover the bed they just don’t hang down the sides much but the smaller comforter sizes are cheaper.
I have all mine in white and just throw them in the washer with the bleach detergent to take care of any possible staining. No duvet covers or anything, these look like the hotel comforters so they add a nice touch to the beds.
Utopia Bedding All Season Comforter - 250 GSM Plush Microfiber Fill - Quilted Duvet Insert with Corner Tabs - Box Border Comforter - Twin/Twin XL - White https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07N7SJT7K/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_i_W.MDDbNC82DQ4
Agreed -- well, maybe in the cold the thermal reflection would still be good if I have heat inside the bus and it reflects it back in. But I agree it'd be good to have any amount of sunlight I can get. Reflectix has a low R-value anyway. It's definitely great for keeping hot sunlight out though.
Yes, exactly, I want to do velcro/magnets to hold them securely to the walls (window frames), and conveniently roll them up when not in use.
Interesting idea with the thinsulate -- I've only heard of it being used in clothing, which wouldn't be thick enough. But with this type of application it could be a good option.
You can have foam mattress pads as long as they were recently purchased and have a tag on them that says the mattress is california safety code approved or something like that. This is a new rule. I would 100% steer clear of the egg crate ones, though. Your RA will be more likely to spot that and ask you about it. If you bring a foam mattress pad during move-in day, and your RA stops you, feel free to bring it down to the front office and ask an RC and get their direct permission or veto about it. Be relaxed about your RA stopping you for such things-- they have just gone through a week of nonstop safety training, and those things aren't allowed because they combust hella fast during a fire should a fire happen so its a hazard. You can havae all the polyester mattress pads you want, too. Its the foam that gets to be an issue.
I went the feather & down mattress pad route myself.
Ultra cheap Amazon choices with high reviews that I intend to try out shortly.

I thought I liked down, until i got silk.
they're the best. hast to be 100% silk filling, no blends.
they're lighter than down, usable year round (I live in CA). "cleaning" is putting outside in the sun every 6 months.

you won't go back.. might even buy more for friends. my mom got some for her family next door to you in NM, and they love theirs.
Note: if you know anyone in China or going, they're at least half the price over there, but you have to get the ones from the western shops.
We have one from Amazon Prime by Utopia Bedding that we love. It's so fluffy and luxurious, and hypo allergenic!
