I have a butterfly bar setup on my touring rig, attached is a tour/mtn specific aero bar. it is not all that aero, but it does have great cushioning on the forearm pads and lots of cushion/foam around the bar up front. It makes all the difference for me on those long rides especially near the end. Yes you do have to be careful of steering, but i only really use them when i am feeling safe (long straight a way, or on bike paths like the silver comet)

These are what i have on my bike and i love them:

They should be about 35-40$ from any dealer who uses Hawley as a distributor.

Or amazon has them:

I'm thinking about getting this or something like it. Someone posted it here and it seems like a better fit.

u/offlines · 3 pointsr/FixedGearBicycle

1" refers to your headset.. what you need to check is how big is your quill clamp.. odds are its 26mm.. and nitto RB-018 bullhorns would fit and look pretty good with a quill

u/melvinrdrgz · 0 pointsr/FixedGearBicycle

I have these on order for daily riding comfort. 😊

u/day1patch · 1 pointr/bikecommuting

If I were you I'd do something that I suggest you do not post to r/cycling :)

Get an older road bike frame (very cheap, very light compared to most commuters), put a riser handlebar on it (more upright) and finally get a Brooks saddle (last saddle you will have to buy and suited for somewhat sporty yet comfortable riding). It will look a bit odd, but would allow you to combine speed and comfort.

Edit: Maybe a riser bar like this for orientation, but I have no experience with the actual model. BMX bikes often have them in different variations.

u/BikeDoctor137 · 4 pointsr/bicycling

Definitely not a great plan, and likely not worth doing. The cost and time investment will be huge.

Get yourself a trekking bar instead.

Example here. Best used with an adjustable stem.

u/oldwahsatch · 1 pointr/bikecommuting

I don’t know a whole lot about khs other than I like them. I had one of their dirt jumpers for a while. They make some gnarly stuff.
Check out either the green8 or green3 for more of a euro commuter or any of their vitamin bikes for a lightweight “fitness” bike. You can make anything look cooler, it just takes some exploring. The fitness bikes are a bit more upright but lightweight and really more of a bike path bike. But add some better bars and grips, some good pedals and seat, and maybe some traditional looking fenders or a front rack.
I’d also look into taking the front derailleur off and dropping to only one front chainring but that’s just me.

These bars have a 3 inch rise, they’re wide, but not super wide like some of the trendy fixie bars lately. Here’s something close to it

u/jayk21 · 1 pointr/FixedGearBicycle

Ahh, that makes sense. For a more comfortable ride, would I be better with Rise handlebars or Bullhorns?

u/beefcakez · 0 pointsr/pics

I found those bars on Amazon, actually. Pyramid - Touring North Road Steel handlebars

Hope that helps!

u/jcc04 · 1 pointr/FixedGearBicycle

Hi, I'm looking at getting some flat bars as a replacement for my pure fix risers(https://www.purefixcycles.com/products/pure-fix-riser-bars?variant=352155019). I've been looking at the origin 8 stash bars because they look nice, and are relatively cheap(http://www.amazon.com/Origin8-Stash-Bar-25-4-450mm/dp/B00SZ062KE).

I just need to know if the the stash bars will fit a 22.2mm brake lever, and if not, can you recommend any that will fit this.

u/unreqistered · 2 pointsr/bikecommuting

Cheaper, and more roomy, stem cap. Amazon also markets, through 3rd party merchants, the Paul cap for ~$24.

Other alternatives, which keep the bars themselves clear.

Velo Orange, Evo Spacebar

I've use all of them, including the Paul.

u/YAHHHHs · 1 pointr/FixedGearBicycle

FSA makes these. They're pretty readily accessible and a lot of people like them. They're my go-to bars for any bike with hoods. I don't think they're particularly flexy or heavy either. Comes in 31.8mm which is either great or bad.

u/Dingo8urBaby · 1 pointr/bicycling

I just transitioned my Novara Buzz from its swept back handlebars to a trekking bar. I have very limited bike-mechanical skills but was able to move it over just fine. I did have to get a shim because my old bars were a 31.6 mm and the new one was smaller.

Like everyone else, I have mine positioned like the Safari, but more level. The picture I saw had them level, so that's what I went with. I got this bar which dips down from the middle.

I do not have grips and instead just wrapped it with Planet Bike Tape. So far I am not missing my grips, but my longest ride since changing it has been only 20 miles.

The only picture I have of my new set up is it before I attached my shifters/brakes and wrapped it. It doesn't match but is no longer noticeable now that I have it wrapped.

u/Spaiduhz · 3 pointsr/bicycling

Nice. Back in the day me and some friends wish to park our bikes for a fair bit of time, we'd loosen our quill stems, twist the handlebars 90° and lay them on each other. That way we could use one chain to secure all our bikes.

There's another product available that is supposed to be for bicycles but I noticed being installed on electric scooters instead. Here we go.

Short reach bars are 70mm-85mm in reach measurement.

The Shimano Pro XLT Anatomic Bend bars are not a short reaching bars. The anatomic style drops might provide a shorter reach while using the drops only, but the reach at the hoods is similar to classic round bars around 90mm. Anatomic bars can have longer drop measurement compared to compact bars. 145mm vs 125/130mm for example.

Shallow drop / short reach / compact bars in 26mm size are rare. But there are a few out there

like Soma Highway 1

https://www.amazon.com/Soma-27543-Highway-1-Bar/dp/B0127CU46S

a cheap option is this UNO bar with 70mm reach

44cm down to 40cm is a big jump. Do you think you need that much narrower bars ? If you are happy with how 44cm feels. i would not see any reason to move to 40cm.

u/HoTDog4Life · 1 pointr/Velo

I usually wouldn't buy something like this on Amazon but with free shipping and returns. I'm feeling this.

FSA Plasma Carbon Integrated Handlebar/Stem 400mm x 100mm https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00LH9LVSS/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_QU11AbJ4DE78J

Specialized Sirus Pro - $1450

Plus:

FSA Drop Bar: $30

SRAM Apex Shifters: $300

Cabling: ~$20

Equals a $1800 total.

But an equivalently spec'd bike with drop bars:

Specialized Allez Comp Apex: $1550

You couldn't make a decent conversion from one to the other for $100. Sure if you want to use crappy components you can always find some cheaper route, but if you want a bike that runs well it's almost always cheaper to buy a drop-bar bike and pony up the extra cash than it is to buy a flat-bar bike and think that you can easily convert it for a reasonable price to drop-bar later.

I really like ones like this that sit in the middle of the bar, that way you don't have to lean as far forward.

u/MrRabbit · 2 pointsr/triathlon

I have these and I love them.

Combined with a forward facing seat post I can get in a rather aero position.

This idea looks interesting, but I wouldn't want to be an early adopter. I've heard the bars can shift with medium/high force, and there's more to fitting for areo position than just moving a seat, from my experience at least.

u/Cyzzacle1 · 2 pointsr/triathlon

do you mean aerobars like these?

u/SingAlongBlog · 2 pointsr/triathlon

https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00AFLMJYY/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_6QoQBbB6P7K14

Something like this will give you all of the adjustability that you need at a decent price

u/Gymrat777 · 1 pointr/triathlon

I don't have aero bars but will get some soon based on the reviews for the T1 and T2 on amazon: http://www.amazon.com/Profile-Design-Aero-Bar-Black/dp/B0036CE2O4

http://www.amazon.com/Profile-Design-Carbon-Cobra-Aero/dp/B000R3VJV4/

u/yetanothernerd · 1 pointr/bicycling

I have these on my MTB. They're ridiculously expensive for bar ends. They are comfy, though.

I prefer mountain shoes and pedals for both road and mountain bikes. Much more walkable, and I've ridden 400 km with them without hot spots. I like Egg Beaters, but the other options are fine too.

u/beerhandups · 3 pointsr/bicycling

I think you're looking for something like this? Comfort Bars.

I would give it another couple of hundred miles. It sounds like just beginner's issues and nothing structural since you haven't logged many miles yet. If you swap to something like the comfort bars you'll never build up the necessary wrist and arm conditioning. Cross races would leave you whimpering. However, if there's an awful amount of discomfort that persists after another 2 months or so I would go back to the shop and get them to adjust your fit based on the pain.

Comfort bars would be a last resort for me and only if I had some sort of wrist injury.
