For the rear wheel I bought this Framed wheelset (since the one for my bike is sold out and doesn't seem to be coming back any time soon) just for the rear wheel and put my cassette on it. For the front wheel I bought this hub and this rim and built it myself, a royal pain in the ass for someone why has never built a wheel before but it was fun and I'm very happy with what I got, I suppose the bike shop would have built it for me but that would have cost money, something I don't have a lot of.

Same logic behind what I did, I probably should just buy a gravel bike, "but I already have a fat bike and it could do the same thing less efficiently and more comfortably," oh, and cheaper.

Best bang for your buck (I just got a new rear wheel built, and I'm 220+ with a heavy touring bike):

  • SunRingle Rhyno Lite or CR18 36-hole double-wall 700c Rim (if your FX3 has rim brakes you'll want a machined sidewall for the brake pads)
  • DT Swiss Spokes
  • Deore, SLX or similar 36-hole Hub (the latter is more expensive but has sealed bearings)

All told, you'll be looking at maybe $200 including labor (although some beer for the mechanics might get you a small break). Alternatively, your shop might be able to get a good prebuilt wheel through QBP; look for ones geared toward touring, as they're built for heavy loads and long rides.

Not from a cursory search. You'll likely have to get them built. Or if you have a co-op in your area, they can probably teach you how to do it yourself.

Parts list (good):

I just bought a set of these and they seem to be great. I had them built with disc brake hubs.

Zefal in 13mm.

u/Jehu920 · 1 pointr/FixedGearBicycle

They sell them on amazon and ebay.

The rotor is what the disc brake clamps down on. The rim is attached to the hub with spokes.

Hand build. Had issues with a stock wheelset so I did a rim transfer to a DT M520. Rim has double wall, eyelets and it is laced with stock Fuji hubs and stock double butted spokes. We're coming up in the 2nd season and I have only trued the rear once.

Found the M520 on Amazon! Not prime but I love this hoop.

Universal 29 Rims. Check out the DT, Halo and Mavic.
