/u/RunGCaleb - It really depends on your budget.

I have the GH4 - and I love it - but, if budget permits, for live broadcast plus short film work, I would get a [$3495 4K JVC LS300 Super 35mm pro camcorder] (http://amzn.to/1P3V5Zj) with live streaming and SDI out.

The LS300's maximum resolution is 4096x2160p true 4K (like the GH4) - plus it can use its power zoom rocker and variable scan sensor mapping for lossless 1080p digital zoom with prime lenses (as seen [here] (https://youtu.be/0Eq4_hPzQPc)).

It also records to 3840x2160 Ultra High Definition (UHD), 2048x1080 DCI 2K and 1920x1080p HD (up to 60fps).

In addition, it has a flat LOG profile, which increases its dynamic range.

This is an 8-bit camera, but it has 4:2:2 color subsampling and will stand up to grading pretty well.

Here's a UHD file shot with cine gamma (before the J LOG release):

u/TMA-3 · 3 pointsr/Filmmakers

Yes.

I have this and I've made 2 short films with it. Admittedly terrible short films, but at least I made them. And it wasn't the fault of the camera, it was my own--because my script was awful, because I didn't know how to manage my time, because I knew nothing about lighting, composition, focal length, aperture, sound design, etc.

A Sundance-accepted feature film was shot on an iPhone. Surely if a mobile telephone can do it then a camcorder can do it as well. That's because the camera is just the paintbrush, it doesn't matter if you have a generic $1 one or a fancy $50 one. What matters is your brushstroke technique, the type of canvas you choose, your use of colors and shapes, of light and shadows, and how you mix and juxtapose and shape them. The final product will be a creation greater than the sum of its parts.

If you think you need a better camera to tell your story, then you're basically saying that your gear is more important than you are. It's not.

This is a quote from a book I'm reading now called Free Play: Improvisation in Life and Art by Stephen Nachmanovitch that really stuck with me:

>"One of the illusions our flute player has to drop by the wayside is that the wonder of the master's music has to do with the new flute, or the method of playing it. It's not the flute. Sometimes we think, If only I had a great instrument--a Stradivarius, a supercomputer with great graphics, a fine, perfectly equipped sculpture studio--I could do anything with it. But an artist can take the cheapest instrument and do anything with it as well. The artistic attitude, which involves a healthy dose of bricolage, frees us to see the possibilities before us; then we can take an ordinary instrument and make it extraordinary."

Now get the fuck off Reddit and go make something great.

Hi /u/GlassCabin - I came from Canon to GH cameras and the BMPCC and would recommend the GH4, but it's not the greatest on low light.

It sounds like you're in ideal candidate for the [new Samsung NX1 with its large backlit sensor, h.265 codec, electronic viewfinder, fast autofocus, internal 4K and $1500 body-only price] (http://amzn.to/11jYkGG).

The 4K demo video is very impressive: http://youtu.be/q_LzX6S0Pac

And hands-on reviewers have been impressed too:

http://www.digitalcamerareview.com/default.asp?newsID=5616

http://www.techradar.com/us/reviews/cameras-and-camcorders/cameras/digital-slrs-hybrids/samsung-nx1-1265386/review

If I wasn't so heavily invested in the Panasonic ecosystem, I would pre-order this camera.

That said, since you're not planning to shoot narrative, you may also want to consider the Sony AX100 camcorder for [$1998 new] (http://amzn.to/1trs5lc) or [$1698 used] (http://www.amazon.com/Sony-FDR-AX100-Video-Camera-3-5-Inch/dp/B00HNJWVIA/ref=sr_1_1?m=A2L77EE7U53NWQ&s=merchant&ie=UTF8&qid=1413311599?tag=battleforthew-20) - it takes 20MP stills as well as UHD video. Yes, it's a little over your $1500 body-only price range, but a fast power zoom lens is included and you would spend a few hundred dollars for decent lenses anyway.

Here's the demo video from this camera at UHD resolution - also impressive:

Hope this is helpful and good luck with your decision!

At this price point, don't go with a DSLR. The T6 isn't going to be that good. Instead, I recommend getting 4 things:

  1. A Canon VIXIA HF R800. This is a good camcorder that can record at 1080p 60 frames per second. This does split the files after a certain recording limit, but that limit happens to be 12 hours, so you're fine.

  2. I recommend you also add B-roll footage, where you show off a product using smooth footage of it. This adds interest to your videos, and improves your audio retention and such. You could start with a Magnus VT-300.

  3. You need good audio, I can't stress that enough. To get started, use a portable audio recorder. The best option for around $100 is the Zoom H1. This will record all your audio and has built in microphones. You can plug it directly into the camera from there, or sync in post, whichever is easier for you. Don't plan on using the audio from camera mics. Even high end cameras aren't meant to use the built in mics for high quality audio.

  4. Last you need some lights. A good all-rounder to get started is the Viltrox L116T. They have adjustable brightness and color temperature + they can be powered by a power adapter or batteries, both of which you need to get separately.
u/jam6618 · 5 pointsr/videography

For starters, I'd be glad to help you find the right camcorder!

Here is an option:

  1. Camera: Panasonic HC-V770K Full HD Camcorder - A fantastic camcorder for the price, just about the cheapest still with good features. It is pushing the budget a bit but i think it would be worth it. 5-axis image stabilization, 1080p with slow-mo, wide aperture for low light, timelapse mode, and more.

  2. Shotgun Mic: Rode VideoMic GO Lightweight On-Camera Microphone - A good small shotgun mic that does not require a battery (uses very little power from the camera).

  3. SD Card: SanDisk 32GB Ultra Memory Card - 2 32GB memory cards should get you plenty of record time and allow you to off-load the footage from one card while being able to use the 2nd card.

  4. Camera Bag: Ruggard Commando 25 Shoulder Bag - A great little camera bag that should fit everything you need in it. If you think it is too small, just step up to it's bigger brother the Commando 36.

  5. LED Light: Genaray LED-2100 36 LED Compact On-Camera Light - A great little on-camera LED light to add more light if you think that is going to be an issue. It can totally be removed if you need to cut down the budget and you dont think you will need it. (a smartphone light would work in a pinch if you rarely need extra light)

  6. Extra Battery: Panasonic Lithium-Ion Camcorder Battery Pack (3.6V, 1940mAh) - This is another battery of the same size as the included one. According to product specialists, it will get you ~1.5 hrs per battery. If you need to cut down on the budget, I would recommend cutting the extra battery and using the included AC adapter more often or using a USB battery pack to power the camera.

For attaching the mic, slide the included detachable cold shoe mount into the slot at the rear of the camera until it clicks, slide the mic into the cold shoe and tighten the knob to secure it in place. For attaching the LED light, screw the bar into the bottom of the camera and attach the LED light to the bar similar to attaching the mic.

If you have any other questions, do not hesitate to ask. I hope this helps!

Well, the easiest option, which a comedian I work with sometimes uses, is to just hit voice memo on his phone and drop it in his pocket. That gets the most important stuff, what his delivery sounds like and how the audience responds.

The next question is do you want to record yourself, or the audience, or both at the same time? The contrast is usually massive, with the stage being blinding bright and the audience being pitch black, so for most cheap cameras you have to pick one.

One option to consider is if you can get a line out from the house mixer, or just give them a card/drive to record to. That would give you the best audio of you, and then your recorder can get the audience noise.

Another thing to consider is that by the very nature of the event you won't be able to monitor the camera, and probably nobody else will either. You probably won't even be able to see it due to the lights, so it might walk away and you have no idea until the end of your set.

Something like a $200-$400 camcorder is probably going to be the best option here. Set it and forget it, and if it goes for a walk you're not going to be financially crippled.

Keep an eye on Amazon Goldbox as well as used sites like BHPhoto. They often have pretty decent discounts.
This is the Canadian site but this Canon camcorder is 30% off. https://www.amazon.ca/gp/aw/d/B019UDIL80/

Stuff like this comes up as a Lightning deal every few weeks it looks like. If you keep your eye out you can get a pretty good deal.

u/Gaffers_Tape · 2 pointsr/videoproduction

The best you're going to do at $500 (but still see significantly improved picture quality) is probably a $200-ish consumer grade camera and the rest on a capture device. for HDMI to USB3, I've used this one many times and it works well:

https://www.amazon.com/Magewell-XI100DUSB-Video-Capture-Dongle/dp/B00I16VQOY

But that doesn't leave much room to play for a camera and stay around $500. For consumer cameras I like the picture quality of the Canon Vixia line, but Sony, Panasonic, etc. have similar consumer cameras at similar prices. Here's one that fits the budget:

https://www.amazon.com/Canon-VIXIA-R700-Camcorder-Black/dp/B019UDIL80/

This one even has a mic jack, which is a nice plus.

You might be able to save even more on the capture device by getting something like one of the Blackmagic decklink capture cards, if you have a desktop to put it in. Still, you're only going to save $15-$25 or so.

If you can put your budget into the $1,500-$2,000 then you could move up to a true prosumer camera or even a professional camera if you buy used. A used Panasonic HMC-150 should be going for about $1-$1.5k on ebay. You'd really see a jump up to pro looking video at that point.

I don't have a cam for my bike yet. I don't commute, but still run into lots of situations during recreational riding that I wouldn't mind having video of either just for fun, to show friends some of the beautiful trails we have, or in case I ever need it as evidence. I do have a dashcam in my car and like it. For the bike I'm leaning more towards something like the Contour Roam 2 or even the Mobius because the GoPro seems like it'd be big and clunky (and probably expensive) for mounting to my bike or helmet.

Search for "HD Car DVR 2.5 TFT LCD 270° 6 IR LED" on ebay, you can grab one for $20. Mine shipped from hong kong. It is cheaply made and has some rattles sometimes, but that is only on the video itself. It works very well and takes some pretty clear video for the price. You can set it to record until out of space or set it to record in 5 or 10 minute intervals and it will delete old footage as it runs out of space. I put an 8gb sdcard in mine and it lasts a long time.

Here is how it looks http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DuvGjOMmxSo which imo is pretty damn good for $20.

Looks like the same one is posted below from Amazon as well by TwistedMexi. http://www.amazon.com/2-5-inch-Vehicle-Recorder-Dashboard-Camcorder/dp/B0053DDNW6/ref=sr_1_1?s=automotive&ie=UTF8&qid=1376583384&sr=1-1&keywords=dash+cam

u/HybridCameraRevoluti · 2 pointsr/videography

Hi /u/the_devils_bff - if you want a camera that records great internal audio without external mics, you may want to consider the [$298 Sony Music Video Recorder] (http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00EVIBMR2/ref=as_li_tl?ie=UTF8&camp=1789&creative=390957&creativeASIN=B00EVIBMR2&linkCode=as2&tag=battleforthew-20). It is a fixed lens camera with a single wide angle focal length (that means no zoom), but it records clear High Definition (HD) video and clear, high quality sound.

Here is what this camera can do with its on-board "XY" stereo mics:

http://youtu.be/W8wVPMioib4

http://youtu.be/1qVfu8qjRqk

http://youtu.be/9DgFfp85Ebs

Sadly, most cameras don't have internal audio recording this good, so you either have to buy an external microphone or an external recorder.

Hope that's helpful - good luck!

u/wolfcry0 · 2 pointsr/AskPhotography

In that case just your basic 1080p camcorder like this one would be a good option, they don't have particularly crisp video but would be better than the iPhone 5 and easier to manage. More light always helps of course, a nice brightly lit room makes it have a lot less noise.

u/justahunk · 3 pointsr/GH5

Honest question—if this is your shooting style, why are you shooting with a DSLR? It looks from the photos that you’re working really hard to turn a DSLR into a news gathering, over-the-shoulder video camera like a Canon XF305 or something:

https://www.crutchfield.com/p_280XF305/Canon-XF305-High-Definition-Camcorder.html

If you’re a big Panasonic fan (like I am), there are several options as well, including the 4K
HC-X1000

https://aax-us-east.amazon-adsystem.com/x/c/QqoeGSxR_bsc1z5Rr98iRC0AAAFsOOt5FgEAAAFKAQKlvCE/https://assoc-redirect.amazon.com/g/r/https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00MZCCNPG?creativeASIN=B00MZCCNPG&linkCode=w61&imprToken=HCgYyrn4D-qpX0CqWMHzSA&slotNum=8&tag=topbest10reviews-20

I’m not saying any of this to be snarky or anything—it just seems like you’re trying really hard to turn a camera that very specifically not a “run and gun” type camera when there are camera out there that have great picture quality, great auto focus, feature XLR inputs and level controls and mounts for external shotgun mics, etc. that don’t require a cage or a ton of workaround.

Don’t get me wrong, the GH5 is a great camera (it’s why I own one), but if I was mainly doing run and gun work, I never would have bought a GH5. There are hundreds ENG cameras or even prosumer camcorders that just seem like they’d allow you to capture your images at the same quality in an all-in-one package.

There seems to be this weird shaming of people sometimes around not using a DSLR, but it really doesn’t make sense. It’s about having the right camera for the work you do. If I was making a living doing ENG work or filming weddings or events (or anything where lightning-fast autofocus is a necessity), I would NEVER use my GH5 as my primary camera. To each their own, but I’d just recommend really evaluating what you’re using your camera for and if you have the best tool rig for the job.

u/dnask8 · 1 pointr/LosAngeles

This is the cam, the reviews weren't great and I took a gamble but I am happy with it. Came with a mini usb cable, a car charger cable and the whole window mount. Totally worth the dough:

http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0053DDNW6/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o01_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

Here is the card. I got a class 10 so the write speed would for sure be capable of the 1080p.

http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00B7ID99I/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o01_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

I tried to run the cam at 720 but it looked fuzzy so I bumped it up to 1080p. I have it set to do 5 minute segments the whole time and each file is usually right around 1GB each. When plugged into a cig lighter that only has power when the car is on the cam starts itself and starts recording when it gets power and goes until you shut it off/loses power. I just set it and forget style on my window and pull the card when I see something interesting along the drive to save. It just overwrites the oldest files if you don't do anything with them.

u/LtRoyalShrimp · 1 pointr/Twitch

Hi,

I highly recommend the Vixia HF R800 if you are just getting into using an actual camera over a webcam.

If you want to go for something a lot better, and also more expensive, check out the Sony AX33

Both cameras feature "Clean HDMI out" meaning you can turn off all the OSD(On screen display features like recording time, date, etc).

If you have questions about either I'd be happy to answer as best I can.

u/[deleted] · 9 pointsr/photography

I use the Black Rapids RS-7. It's a little expensive, but worth it to me. It looks like a regular strap upon casual inspection, so you won't stand out in a crowd.

It allows me to carry around and handle a big, heavy 5DII and the brick-like 24-70 f2.8L easily. The best advantage it has over a regular strap is that you can bring your camera to your eye quickly and move it back repeatedly without having to readjust anything.

u/bstrange · 1 pointr/photography

While everyone suggests a 35 or 50mm f/1.8 lens, let me suggest a flash that isn't on top of your camera. I'd get at least the 430EX flash (http://amzn.com/B001CCAISE) so you can swivel and tilt the head of it. Pair that up with a good diffuser (http://amzn.com/B000CLNHXY) and you can take some great portraits. Flashes are great to have even in bright sunlight to soften shadows and add catch-lights to eyes, and are invaluable in other types of photography and situations.

Also, a RapidStrap is nice to have (http://amzn.com/B002WR7VSS), as it will get your camera off your neck and onto your shoulder. It's a hell of a lot more comfortable to carry it around during hikes like this.

UPDATE: (no video until I've worked this out)

GO BUY A DASH CAM. THIS IS THE ONE I HAVE AND ITS $21. Just needs an SD card. And an optional better mount. Mine is mounted behind my rearview mirror so you don't notice it and its hardwired in the same spot as my V1 so it automatically turns on with the car and starts recording.

UPDATE (cont.):

I seriously had to take a few hours to cool off and enjoy my vacation. Unfortunately I got back to the hotel after the managers had left.

Just spoke with the front desk manager who runs the show at night while the actual hotel managers are on during the day. He was super professional about it. Albeit, he's completely powerless in the situation but he took control, called everyone and setup a meeting for tomorrow morning.

Notes:

  • He was completely shocked by the video.
  • I had to tell the valet how to drive the SMG tranny is on tape.
  • When another gentlemen comes up to the car and asks if its his, he responds with a laugh and says "Nope, but its mine for now!"
  • He peels out of the hotel.
  • The car goes airborne twice. Once entering the garage. And again as he goes down a slope and launches off a ramp that meets a right turn entrance a parking level.
  • The wheels are burning at least 3-4 times.
  • The valet laughs at the end to cap it off.

    New things:

  • The valet turned out to be the supervisor.
  • The valet is outsourced by the hotel and carries its own insurance.
  • The other valets all knew about my car.
  • The ramp he flew off, leads to another garage that I was able to park in tonight with another valet. Meaning that, he intentionally launched it off there instead of slowing down.

    Possible Solutions Discussed:

  • Hotel
  • Valet
  • Food/Beverage
  • BMW Inspection
  • Repairs
  • Future Stays

The conversation went really well but again he's not the person in charge. Anyone capable of doing anything knows about it and will have a night to figure out how to appropriately respond.

Sorry guys, no video yet until I have an answer. Another update will come tomorrow morning.

I'm in the market for an UltraWide in the UK as well, and the prices here are just stupid compared to the US...The one I really want is Alienware AW3418DW but I'm waiting for a good sale on it as the "refreshed" version AW3420DW just dropped in the US and supposedly will be available in Europe 18.10.2019.At the moment AW3418DW in the US is $839 = £674But in the UK the same model costs £999 = $ 1242Amazon US Amazon UKThat is basically double the price for the same item, I know that there are differences with taxes etc but this is just ridiculous. And this trend can be spotted with different brands like ACER and ASUS.I'm holding off until I spot a great deal on either the AW3418DW or Predator X34P, and would recommend you to do the same. Hope this helps

Edit: Btw If you are looking at the Z35P, not so long ago (2-3 weeks) it was discounted on Box for ~£550, so everything you pay above that is overpaying.

Heyo! A big part of my service has been doing video projects for promotion of events, NGOs, and other PCV projects. I've just got a handheld Canon camcorder.

Get yourself a wireless lapel mic kit, an extra battery, a camera bag, an SD card for increased memory, and a tripod before you head out. You can opt to spend big money of these things, but I reccomend starting economically and growing your kit over the years.

My PC computer is pretty low end, so I run VideoPad for all the editing.

This is the exact make and model I use. It's economical, but if you use it right, you can get primo professional results. Good luck!!!

Hey there. I posted in the last weekly thread about needing a camera to record seminars for our organization (recording a large projected screen and the presenter in the same image, from about 40-50 feet away in dim lighting for at least an hour at a time) I got some good recommendations for DSLR style cameras but I think a camcorder would be better suited to our needs-mainly because of recording length and the fact that none of us are skilled videographers/photographers. I've gone through and looked at the newest options from Sony, Panasonic and Canon and I've divided them up by price because we still don't know how much we'll be able to spend on this. So I've split them up into "Around $500", "Around $1000" and "Around $2000+" I was wondering if someone could take a look at my picks and help me narrow it down to one or two options per price point

$500 | $1000 | $2000+

I know this wouldn't help in a parked car situation but I got a dash cam for $12 that works pretty well. I wish it was a wider angle lens because the view is pretty narrow but at least if someone rear ended me and sped away in front of me i'd be able to capture their plate. It starts filming when the car is turned on and stops about 10 seconds after the car is turned off and it's so cheap.

Depends on your budget and what videos ur making.

Shotgun mic:TAKSTAR SGC-598
https://www.amazon.com/TAKSTAR-SGC-598-Interview-Microphone-Camcorder/dp/B00E58AA0I

Camera I would recommend: Canon vixia hf r800
https://www.amazon.com/Canon-VIXIA-HF-R800-Camcorder-Black/dp/B01N7OAH3I?th=1&psc=1

Video editing depends what your computer can handle and what video ur making. I use hitfilm express which is free. However it needs a decent gpu of some sort. Shotcut on the other hand is pretty basic and runs well on lower end hardware.

I have a couple GoPros for shooting fun stuff but my every day commuter camera is the Contour. The form factor is a lot more helmet friendly, the giant on off switch lets you operate it with your gloves on, the rotating lens lets you level the shot easily, and the Contour Roam 2 is on sale for under $120 on Amazon right now. Actually I might buy a 2nd one since I have the original and mine isn't fully waterproof like the Roam 2.

I recently scored a Canon Vixia HF R700 due to some great advice in this sub a few months ago. Since then I've used it in multiple situations including at Indiana Comic Con 2017 and GenCon 2017. Here's a picture of the setup I use. Since then I think the next generation Canon Vixia HF R800 is the one that's available. Good luck! And if you find something else let me know. I'm always interested in upgrading gear if it's the right thing to do.

I would highly recommend any option that allows the use of an external mic. Nobody enjoys watching videos with inferior audio, and a cheap $30 lav or mini shotgun would be miles ahead of internal camera or cell phone mics.

At $300, their are plenty of camcorder type cameras that will give you decent enough video quality (not 4K). The main advantage of this option would be the use of a large zoom range if needed. The Canon Vixia r800 is about the cheapest you can get with a mic input, and can record 1080/60p.

If you want better quality, i would recommend the Panasonic FZ300 a bridge camera, which gives you all the manual controls and feel of a DSLR, bit a fixed super zoom lens. I recommend the FZ300 because

  • flip out articulating screen,

  • a mic input,

  • records 4K/30p, 1080/60p, 720/120p

  • constant aperture f2.8 lens

  • 24X zoom range

Its a fun camera to use if your used to DSLR controls. The wifi app comes in handy if your shooting alone, as it lets you view your framing, control the zoom and focus, set exposure, start stop recording, and playback your footage instantly on your phone for review.

The next step up IMO is the G7, which is a DSLM, has most of the above features, a bigger m43 sensor to improve low light performance, but you lose the super zoom lens and the 120p recording, and at the moment is $600.

But I think you can't go wrong with the FZ300..

You might take a look at handy cams in the HDR-CX line, particularly the HDR-CX440 which is $300, and it's cousin with a built-in projector HDR-PJ440. They do full 1080p@60FPS recording and it has a good 60x optical zoom. I have the previous generation, the CX330, which I used to record this 2-hour walking safari. The CX440 should be about the same.

Right at the $500 mark is the HDR-CX675, but it's specifications are so similar to that of the CX440 that I'm not sure it's worth the difference. If you wanted much better quality than the CX/PJ series, then look at Sony's FDR-AX series of high-end consumer camcorders and see if you can find a good bargain. You might be able to find a new, older generation mode of a camcorders on this page for $500.

Panasonic has some compelling options in the $400-500 range as well.

u/DubbleYewGee · 6 pointsr/buildapcforme

With a top end, hot, power hungry chip yes you should. The stock cooler won't really cut it. The suggested one is a cracking deal for a 280mm AIO.

The budget is definitely fine for the tower. It depends what monitor you would like. A 120Hz 1440p ultrawide like the X34 already costs £1100.

A compromise may be asking yourself to decide between an ultrawide and 144Hz.

u/smushkan · 1 pointr/videography

If you want to do it all through a computer, a good quality webcam like a Logitech C920. You can then use any DirectShow compatible software to record the video straight onto your PC, such as Windows Movie maker, VLC, etc. Combine it with a set of CFLs to light you up, and you'll get pretty decent quality video assuming that you've already got an audio recording setup.

If you don't have a good quality audio recording setup, another solution that would be really easy to work with would be the Sony HDR-MV1. It doesn't have wifi, but you can just sync the stuff off it using a regular USB cable; and since the audio and video would be synchronised out of the camera it will save you time when you're editing.

u/delti90 · 3 pointsr/JusticePorn

I bought this one a while ago. It's not phenomenal quality, but it's good enough to distinctly make out the license plate of a car in front of you. It's great for the price and the charger it comes with has an insanely long cable. I snaked it around my car so it doesn't dangle randomly. I can post a video tomorrow if you want to see the quality.

Nope not at all, I actively encourage them. I was one of the people in the other thread that said a radar detector would make me more likely to write a ticket. The big difference is intent. You aren't using a dashcam to break the law, you are using it to protect yourself. Big difference to me. I own a dash cam for my personal vehicle and use it ever day. Good peace of mind to me.

The "cinematic" look usually comes from color grading (I could be wrong). Also, 720p seems like a low resolution. If you could save up and get perhaps a 1080p camcorder, maybe that would work better, perhaps something like [this one] (https://www.amazon.com/Sony-Recording-HDRCX405-Handycam-Camcorder/dp/B00R5LH9HO/ref=sr_1_4?s=photo&ie=UTF8&qid=1466397276&sr=1-4&keywords=sony+camcorder)

Edit: Or you could get something like a refurbished Nikon d3300 (bundled with a 18-55mm lens and a wifi adapter) for $319 with coupon code DXPRO2X65. I was turned to this camera a while back from WeaselZone.

Sony AX33: http://www.amazon.com/Sony-Recording-FDRAX33-Handycam-Camcorder/dp/B00R5LH9G0?ie=UTF8&keywords=sony%20ax33&qid=1464280191&ref_=sr_1_3&sr=8-3

Ended up picking one up for our dual capture card setups at events. Quality is really nice, and if 4K is a big deal to you, this shoots 4k30 as well as 1080p60. Don't know if the HDMI out outputs 4k though. Here is one of the streams from PAX East that used the AX33 for the webcam: https://www.twitch.tv/hmkilla/v/62376578

I would say the only drawback of this is that the HDMI out is an interlaced signal, so 60i not 60p, which can be temperamental with capture cards, like sometimes it only wants to show up as 30fps because of the interlacing. But it always works and the actual image quality always looks fantastic.

The RS-7 is what I use. I bought one (I think it was the RS-5, then) in around 2010. This year after all the wear I'd put on it, the hardware was starting to get a divot which caused a clicking noise whenever I walked around. One email to them and they sent me a brand new strap, in a retail box, with all the hardware and then some bonus gadgets. After FIVE years. Truly amazing service and a really really well-built product.

Camcorders are pretty well priced for what you get out of it. Find somethign that has atleast x10 optical zoom. And be sure to specify optical zoom, not Total or digital zoom.

Sony Handycam is a solid device for a good price. JVC also makes decent ones too.

u/discount_surgeon · 1 pointr/videography

sorry to dig this up but I have one more question: I found this one on Amazon: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00R5LH9HO/ref=psdc_172421_t1_B01950TCEU

best seller, came out in 2015 (1080p recording), and it only shows the price when added to cart because Amazon is selling it for less than the retailer suggests, so they won't let Amazon blatantly advertise for it. What do you think? It's only $250 so I could even get her some lighting equipment and other things!

u/repoman · 19 pointsr/gadgets

Tested this camera today out on the snowmobile trails - worked great and doesn't make you look like Snoo (as does the GoPro).

P.S. Get a 32gb card though too - the 4gb it comes with is only good for about 45 minutes at 720p 60fps.

u/InvisibleJiuJitsu · 2 pointsr/videography

I used to use the sony X3000 for my BJJ tutorials before i upgraded to my GH5 .amazon referral links included. Sony looks good, better imo than the osmo, records in 4K and has nice stabilisation.

a step up in quality (and cost) would be to record audio separately and mix in post, or upgrade to a camera that can take a mic input

u/Ttownzfinest · 4 pointsr/frugalmalefashion

Not sure if you're going for style or functionality? I use the quick strap which is super functional and allows the camera to hang at your side instead of on your chest. It's a more frugal alternative to the Rapid Strap. It's one of the best investments I made for camera.

u/Sticbas · 2 pointsr/CowChop

https://www.amazon.com/Canon-VIXIA-Camcorder-Internal-Memory/dp/B00AWZFHG0

I wouldn't suggest getting any type of camera like this just for dicking around with friends. If that's all you want to use it for, I would suggest just sticking with your phone. If you have a Samsung, the quality is pretty decent.

u/UberBotMan · 2 pointsr/thewallstreet

Yeah it would. The new ones have some nice digital stabilization.

I'm probably going with a Sony because it has optical stabilization and I've heard great things about it vs. the Go Pro.

u/glassuser · 3 pointsr/houston

This one is not the best, but it gets the job done and is pretty cheap.

http://www.amazon.com/2-5-inch-Vehicle-Recorder-Dashboard-Camcorder/dp/B0053DDNW6/ref=sr_sp-btf_title_1_10?ie=UTF8&qid=1404912766&sr=8-10

It will take me a while to find the one that is higher quality and a lot more popular. Black something.

u/theproftw · 2 pointsr/Dashcam

I understand. If you do go for a cheap camera this one is about the only option you have left.

It's mostly a lottery if you will get something "decent" that's somewhat reliable or something that where the video looks zoomed in and looks pretty bad. In terms of MicroSD, I found Transcend to be the cheapest sold by Amazon instead of being sold by another seller, which assures you it's not gonna be fake. Transcend is a great brand too.

Edit: I found a Kingston that's also sold by Amazon, although I vaguely remember those cheap models not being compatible with it, not sure.

u/kabbage123 · 3 pointsr/videography

I think you'd be really happy with this Canon Professional Camcorder for legal work. It's pretty rugged and you'll have a lot of money left over for your computer and audio equipment.

Wimp! :)

Seriously though, consider buying a better strap. If you got a "really good deal" on it, why bother being paranoid? Best thing that I did (T2i owner here, but upgrading to a 5D MKIII later this year) was buy a better strap for the camera. Keeps my camera out of the way until I need it, and makes carrying it around a breeze, because it's not thumping on my chest or getting in the way of my arms/hands when I'm at a party/event.

u/Jessie_James · 0 pointsr/marketing

I would suggest you get a real camera. I have a Canon G40 and the difference in video quality is obvious. The Canon can shoot in regular and low light conditions FAR better than a top of the line phone, and handles contrast and focus and ... everything much better. Plus you can use standard accessories like lights, wired and wireless lapel microphones which make the sound quality much better (which is instantly obvious), tripods, additional batteries, and so forth.

I would tell them they need to buy a camera for the company. A $1k to $1500 investment is nothing for quality marketing.

u/cpujockey · 2 pointsr/videography
