it's not the same as live and in person, but there are a few ways you can get the feeling of what a nin concert was like. trent reznor was very open to nin shows being recorded, and thus we have a lot of great memories that can be viewed/listened/relived for us who were there, and also viewed for the first time by new nin fans.
there are a couple dvd releases of concerts that you can purchase - and all that could have been & beside you in time, PLUS an amazing fan-created dvd called another version of the truth: the gift. seriously, the effort and teamwork that went into that project was amazing. the people behind that project also helped put together a video (near the bottom of that page) of nin's live performance of the entire TDS album, sourced from many different people that were at that show, vtaping the whole thing. also amazing.
plus there's tons of fan-sourced videos of nin concerts floating around on youtube. i would recommend watching some of the 2006 summer amphitheatre shows, which had amazing (i keep saying that word, but i can't think of anything stronger) light and screen special effects. specifically, look up "closer", "only", and "non-entity". the beside you in time shows had amazing hi-tech effects as well.
Happy birthday! You should have carrot cake with cream cheese frosting because it's amazing. Or chocolate with chocolate-mint icing. Mmm.
If I win I'd love this!
Happy Happy Joy Joy!
Thank you for the contest!
Hello drowgirl!
I would LOVE the new Skillet album if I am lucky enough to win!
For you, I'd recommend either an album by Seether (I like a lot of the songs on this one) or a different album by Skillet (the only reason I recommended this one for you instead of the one I linked for me is because I've heard this one and know I like it and I haven't heard the new one I linked for me yet).
I'd recommend either of these two albums for you because it looks like we have fairly similar tastes in music, and I first discovered Skillet when I created an "Evanescence" station on Pandora and they have quickly become one of my favorites. I discovered Seether through Evanescence as well through Seether's song "Broken" featuring Amy Lee.
Thank you so much for the contest!
> The Melvins are my favorite band of all time. They are my Led Zeppelin, the only band at 23 I've consistently listened to since I was like, 14 or 15. They introduced me to so many other awesome bands.
I feel the same way. I only became a huge fan after I saw them in concert, which was absolutely amazing. It was when Jello was touring with them (to support the Jelvins albums), and they had a 2+ hour Altamont set, a 2 hour Melvins set, and a 1.5 hour Jello + Melvins set. It absolutely blew my mind.
I'll not reply to the rest - but you gave a really good "condensed history" of the Melvins.
For those onlookers interested in the Melvins, I'll suggest the first album that really got me addicted to their sound (which, by the way, is unique and I've yet to find with any other band).
Grab The Maggot. You'll not regret it. The Amazon parts 1-4 is still one of my favorite songs of all time - it's absolutely fantastic.
The Strange Case of... by Halestorm. I've only had it for a few days, but it's completely amazing. Awesome vocals, great music, super catchy. It's all good, so I don't really have a favorite!

|name|Linkin Park|
|about artist|Linkin Park is an American band from Agoura Hills, California. Formed in 1996, the band rose to international fame with their debut album, Hybrid Theory, which was certified Diamond by the RIAA in 2005 and multi-platinum in several other countries. Its following studio album, Meteora, continued the band's success, topping the Billboard 200 album chart in 2003, and was followed by extensive touring and charity work around the world. In 2003, MTV2 named Linkin Park the sixth greatest band of the music video era and the third best of the new millennium behind Oasis and Coldplay. My coolest item would either be this or this I don't know both have some pretty trippy artwork
NSFW story
as for a story (well I still laugh every time I think about it) this happened recently. So I had my first gig with my band last sunday and only our friends showed up (it was at the worst bar in town) and we played death metal but on the last song we played the song I got erection (a funny punk song) and we made up funny lyrics like: every time I get an erection lasting longer than 4 hours....ERECTION!...ok well you get the point we just made up the stupidest lyrics then when the song ended my friends got up on the stage and every one of them just said erection into the microphone.....I know I have a teenager mentality. I can think of some better stories if anyone wants...
I generally just listen to The Best of the Doors Disc 2, Black Sabbath - We Sold Our Soul for Rock n' Roll, or even White Zombie - Super Swingin' Sexy Sounds... Me and my partner both like the simplicity and theme that an album creates. Protip: The Best of The Doors (disk 2) Is an amazing album to fuck to, and normally we both end up cumming on the last track. Then the music's over and we turn out the light.
Opiate: $12.59
Lost my first copy I got at a record store in the 90's, re-bought this on Amazon.
Undertow: [$16.98](http://www.amazon.com/Undertow-Vinyl-Tool/dp/B000000992/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1346420953&sr=8-1&keywords=tool+vinyl
&qid=1346420953&sr=8-4&keywords=tool+vinyl)
I bought in '95 at a local record shop in PA. Easily available on Amazon.
Ænima:$300 / $50
Original prints are $300+ on Ebay
The knockoff that I have sell cheaper on Ebay
Lateralus: $38.99
bought from ToolArmy, didn't have the cash to get the $150 signed one
at the time. Not too expensive on Ebay right now.
10,000 Days: $49.99
Never released by the band only knockoffs available on Ebay
Salival: $69.99
Also never officially released. I don't have one of these, but knockoffs available on Ebay. Too expensive for a knockoff. I'm happy just having my original VHS copy.
$238.54 gets you all the knockoffs. If you want the 4 originals it'll be $368.56
Hope that helps.
NIN / Trent Reznor
Listen, specifically, to their instrumental album Ghosts:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EyKNUj-AjgA
If you like it, please buy it from them:
http://store.nin.com/
or
http://www.amazon.com/Ghosts-I-Nine-Inch-Nails/dp/B0015FQZ94/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1410801779&sr=8-1&keywords=nin+ghosts
Trent has released free album(s) before as a gesture of thanks to his fans, so actually buying this (if you love it) is a good thing to do.
My favorite band since I first heard Pretty Hate Machine in my youth, I have grown up alongside this amazing, talented, haunted composer...NIN has been the soundtrack to my life.
You might not know of them, but 21 Pilots is a pretty rad band and one of my favorite albums by them is on vinyl!
A linkin Park CD for me!
What up doe
Yup. It's the Audio-DVD of Reanimation. Mine looks like this one.
Huh, didn't realize it seems to be a collectors type thing now. I do remember it being more expensive, 'cause DVD (at the time), but soooo worth it. Lets put it this way, After the opening you get Pts.OF.Athrty, which just kinda spins around your head. It's imo a really awesome and unique experience to the music.
Not sure if you’ve got an original or why it was so expensive but I’ve seen re-issue laturalus picture disc gatefolds for $30-$40 at local record stores and guitar centers. I found one for $28 on amazon.
You could get a record frame for $15 at a craft store like michaels or Joan’s.
Still really cool though!!!
https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00005BGV2/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_i_UFt3Cb2T1HFDP
For anyone looking for a copy I'm pretty sure they're still printing it (along with Undertow and Lateralus, unlike Ænima). You can get it on Amazon for pretty cheap.
It's on Youtube but like people said, it's the from the IDR: The Deluxe Video Album.
I just bought a copy on Amazon for like $7...showed up yesterday actually.

> limited edition
Love me some Tool, but whoever on their team called this a "limited edition" is a huge dick. Popular albums with great music on them that were released 12 years ago and are actually limited should not still be available for purchase from a retail store: https://www.amazon.ca/Lateralus-Vinyl-Tool/dp/B00005BGV2/ref=sr_1_1_twi_lp__2?ie=UTF8&qid=1492094553&sr=8-1&keywords=lateralus
NIN - Broken
It is a truly charged album full of energy that does not ever disappoint me. Any time I play Pinion I know that I'm going to finish the album. In an interview Trent Reznor was asked about his lyrics from 'Wish' and said that his epitaph should read: "REZNOR: Died. Said 'fist fuck', won a Grammy."
There is also a music video that goes with the whole album from start to finish. It is truly brutal nightmare fuel. NOT SAFE FOR WORK/LIFE
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DR91Rj1ZN1M
Mad World. Those feels. It can remind me of a lot of things but mostly it reminds me of my older sister who committed suicide about 10 years ago.
This cd if I win?
http://www.amazon.com/dp/B000641ZIQ/ref=wl_it_dp_o_pC_S_ttl?_encoding=UTF8&colid=1OCYQBIQB0HKN&coliid=I2D7Z5TDMI30R8
Edit- because the 2 year old stole my mouse and clicked save too soon :-p
Good luck finding an official pressing of the Fragile for a reasonable price...
"This release has several bootleg copies in wide circulation, including those pressed on red vinyl, and those with the white shrinkwrap sticker printed as part of the back artwork."
http://www.amazon.com/Fragile-Vinyl-Nine-Inch-Nails/dp/B00001P4TI
I recommend Broken [EP]. Only 8 songs, but they're some of my favorites (and the packaging is kickass).
It looks interesting but why did you link to the wiki article instead of to the album?
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Panopticon_%28album%29
http://www.amazon.com/Panopticon-Isis/dp/B0002Z83KC
It sounds nifty, though, and I dig that they read Foucault. I was introduced to Surveiller et Punir last semester and it blew my mind.
decibel
this would be great!
Sexual favors aside, I would want This. HOWEVER, most people are not rich, so I'm just gonna say get him a record player, and some of the vinyls, some beer/wine from Caduceus cellars/whatever he drinks, and a shirt (you can never have too many, but if he has some already, try to get one that looks moderately different from the others, such as a white one or one with an entirely different design). All in all, this gift should run in at about $100-150, depending on what you get specifically. Hope this helps
Always loved this release. Krwling still gives me goosebumps to this day. The 5.1 surround mix is absolutely incredible.
Wow. Idk why I thought of this
I'd love this!
Water. I'm boring and drink water 99% of the time.
autumn
Could it be Orgy?
They sing a cover song that was popular back then called 'Blue Monday'
You haven't heard of Ghosts, have you?
It's...interesting lol
Did the FI CD cost you something like $45/50 bucks?
Is there any real news on the re-presses of their older albums, in the future?
Also OP, might wanna snag this while you're at it.

Lenses are a billion percent necessary for a DIY Rift. Along with the fact that you'll have a very small field of view, the software also warps the image for the lenses, therefore it'd be practically useless without lenses.
I can see why your family would think spending 20 bucks on cardboard is silly. Seeing how you don't want to order online, the only other place I can suggest getting a pair of lenses under 10 bucks is your local music shop. Really. Does your family think you like Tool? Because Tool's album "10,000 days" comes with two stereoscopic lenses. Check your local music shops for a new copy of the album with the lenses, and boom, you have your lenses.
Hope this helps!
Ahhh well, in that case it's cheaper on Amazon right now if you have prime...https://www.amazon.com/Lateralus-Vinyl-Tool/dp/B00005BGV2/ref=ice_ac_b_dpb_twi_lp__2?ie=UTF8&qid=1497898628&sr=8-1&keywords=lateralus
No order;
Battle of Mice - A Day of Nights (easily my favorite female vocalist), Zodiak - Sermons, Tool - Lateralus, Pink Floyd - Dark Side of the Moon, and Deftones - White Pony.
I could keep going though.
You mean this? It was definitely officially released. Even on cassette.
I mostly only buy used CDs anymore. I actually stopped at FYE today and found a few gems. They have a "Buy One, Get One 50% Off" special on used CDs, so I ended up getting 4 of them:
Gojira - L'Enfant Sauvage
Gojira - The Way Of All Flesh
Isis - Panoptican
Satyricon - Now Diabolical
So I found the NIN - And All That Could Have Been DVD at my local Half-Price Books. Holy smokes. The live performance of NIN in 2000 is a hallmark of its time.
My favorite track so far is La Mer. YouTube doesn't do it justice. It's so good in 5.1 surround.
well vatismyvagina wants this
she is going to get her PhD in Psychology
What's Going On?
(I rather appreciate the cover version on eMotive, which is an album of nothing but anti-war/pro-peace covers)
The 20% over $65 would help this price but overal it’s cheaper on amazon and has been for awhile
10,000 Days album cover
Seeing as that's the cover for one of their albums, it's reasonable to assume it's possibly Tool related. The back of the album continues the artwork as you can see the top half of the tattoo image as the back cover.
I had a remix CD they did called Supersexy Swinging Sounds. I confess that I didn't hate the cover art.
This one is up on You Tube.
Just buy it on Amazon you dummy. https://www.amazon.com/Lateralus-Vinyl-Tool/dp/B00005BGV2

Of those 11-13 songs - TWO were brand new tracks, ONE was a brand new drum solo, and THREE others (Intolerance, Sweat, and Part of Me) have been extremely rare cuts over the last decade (or more).
So going into the most recent tour, chances were 100% that out of the 11-13 songs they were going to play, you were going to get no less than 3 new songs you’d never heard before (period) and almost 100% that you’d get a 4th song you’d at least never heard live before.
Couldn't resist. Anyways, here's the real link to the Lateralus LP.
I clarified that it's for Lateralus because our bond of trust has been broken.

They use quite a bit from Ghosts 1-4 by Nine Inch Nails. Quite a bit of that material was used for the basis of some of the songs on "The Social Network" soundtrack. Not sure if that's the previously referred to movie soundtrack.
Can't agree with you more, I must acquire this
I actually linked this in the sidebar a while ago :)
The actual DVD title is Infiltrate Destroy Rebuild: The Deluxe Video Album so I called it IDR: The Video Album.
