If you want help and don't want modern medicine, you might want to look for a local naturopath to work with. Nutrition is very important, herbs can aide you but nutrition is going to heal you. Having someone locally who can test you will give you better answers that people on the internet.. That being said, i understand that is not possible for everyone and some individuals are left to self treatment.

How is your diet? Are you eating well balanced meals that are prepared fresh using quality ingredients and decent cooking methods? Sounds lame, but diet is a huge impact on overall health, weight and hormones.

Are you eating enough healthy fats? Eating healthy fats is very important for hormone health. Don't restrict well sourced, healthy fat intake, for fear of gaining weight (that is very unhealthy). Fats are vital to health.

When i have them around i enjoy drinking a greens juice powder in the mornings, mine has probiotic + enzyme in it. I use this because it fits my needs best, but you can find one better for you; they have some stevia/flavored or other versions. It's like my morning coffee, i love it. I sweeten it with honey (raw cacao if i have it), tastes great. I have a friend who puts kratom in their greens drink. I lost a lot of weight when i started supplementing a good greens drink (it was Moringa based). The Moringa (and greens) helped my sugar cravings, which in turn kept me from eating as much sugar.

Another thing you could consider is juicing. I mean, making your own fresh juice from whole produce, with a quality juicer at home. I have done both juice fasting and periodical supplemental juicing. I started by doing it once in a while and enjoyed it.

I watched a movie which is about an obese man with an autoimmune disease goes on a juice fast. I was convinced to try, simply to see if i could. I went 15 days with nothing but juice, and felt great. I don't think juicing is the sole answer to managing weight, but giving your body that period of easy nourishment can be very beneficial to certain individuals. Best long term results will obviously be if you continue to eat well after you finish juicing. Juice is a nice tool to have, but proper diet is very important.

How's your lifestyle? Any negative vices that you need to stop? Lots of processes sugars? Tobacco? Alcohol? Drugs?

What about physical activity level? I understand pain, and how unpleasant being active sounds, but it is important. Are you getting outside and enough sun? Sunlight and darkness trigger the release of hormones in your brain. Exposure to sunlight is thought to increase the brain’s release of a hormone called serotonin. This is associated with boosting mood and helping a person feel calm and focused. At night, darker lighting cues trigger the brain to make another hormone called melatonin. This hormone is responsible for helping a person feel sleepy and go to sleep.

This can go with physical activity, but doing something that allows you to enter a Flow state can be very beneficial. When you enter flow, you release a bunch of really beneficial neurochemistry; Endorphins (opoiod receptors), Norepinepherine, Anandamide (Cannabinoid receptors), Serotonin and Dopamine. There are many tools people use to enter flow; I enjoy spinning staff, juggling, mountain biking, music, hiking and being in nature.

Yoga may be beneficial for you. It isn't one i have delved very far into, but i am planning on it. I do stretch sometimes, and need to more often.

As far as herbal supplements;

Cannabis can be beneficial in assisting sleep and surpressing REM (which is when dreams are most common). Valerian may help you sleep better (dream results vary). Ashwaganda is worth considering, It's said to be great for insomnia.

Other options worth investigating; Kava, Evening Primrose, Chamomile, Linden, hops, Ginkgo, passionfower, catnip, Ginseng, Lemon balm, skullcap, cayenne, -- I could go on. These are all herbs that can legitimately benefit sleep depending on the circumstances of the insomnia.

There's a lot of herbs that can help with Issues, but there's also a lot of reasons for underlying issues. Without knowing what is causing your insomnia, nightmares or headaches it's going to be shooting in the dark (which is fine). Do a little google research on some of the herbs mentioned; read a little about it, and find one that sounds ideal for you.

Herbs are not a magical pill. They can help you, but you need to take a proactive approach to lifestyle and your diet, if you do not already.

Sorry if that was a little scattered, it's a lot of information and i am short on time. Hopefully it helped you a little. (Edit: spelling)

I really like the maca team. You can buy it on amazon, too.

Nutrex spirulina has great quality control standards. I've gone through quite a bit of it and love it.

Starwest botanicals chlorella is what I've used and really like it.

u/Read_to_Your_Kids · 4 pointsr/Supplements

A good greens blend should be able to cover any nutritional deficiencies but you'll probably want to use several servings a day.

There are so many awesome superfood powder bramds out there. Just search superfood on Amazon.

I like Amazing Grass, and Garden of Life's Raw Meal and Green Superfood. Vibrant Health is good too.

Also, One-A-Day multis are terrible. PM me if you want my recommendations.

u/dreiter · 1 pointr/soylent

Looks like it's mostly unimpressive due to the grain fillers. I don't give a crap about the buzzwords; the ingredients themselves are all great for you. Powdered greens are a convenient way to add some nutrients into an otherwise incomplete diet. If you are on the go, on a liquid diet, or don't have access to fresh veggies, they do fine in a pinch. I personally prefer Amazing Grass or the store-brand equivalent. The taste is pretty intense though.

u/blaaaaaargh · 1 pointr/Random_Acts_Of_Amazon

Oh no, that sucks! At least it wasn't stolen!

One time I backed my car into a pole. It wasn't even really an accident. I saw the pole, I just had a lot on my mind and it didn't really register with me until I actually hit it. :| I'm a dumbass. I just sat there and silently yelled at myself for a bit for being so stupid.

If I win I'd love this off my "For a healthier me" list! I'm in the process of conquering my bulimia. I'm doing rather well, trying to make healthy choices and I'd really love to try that stuff.

Why on earth did I do that?

Thank you for the contest!

u/TygErbLoOd · 1 pointr/Chlorella

yes, many differences

for instance, NOW was great til a steel smelter opened near them a few years ago

i like ranger organic SL select

only online, but cheap per day

dr. mercola fermented is great too

u/paracog · 3 pointsr/keto

I use Amazing Grass Green Superfood, which is a mix of greens and other micro-nutrients, just toss it in with a smoothie and I'm set for a couple servings of veggies. Good for covering that base easily.

u/INTHEMIDSTOFLIONS · 2 pointsr/nutrition

I'm not on any greens supplements. Everyone at my work uses Organify Greens, but I wanted to go healthy.

So I asked at Natural Groceries what they recommend and the gentlemen there pointed me to this one however it has wheat grass in it, and that's something I can't have.

u/Saorigameover · 2 pointsr/Paleo

I haven't tried that one exactly. But, I was doing this trial for a product called FujiKale. I honestly didn't notice any difference in my well-being. But, I was drinking this for a while and liked it a lot! I would either throw a scoop in my smoothies or just drink it with water.

u/creationrebel718 · 3 pointsr/bjj

I freaked out when I read it. had a good friend pass a stone and it did not sound pleasant at all. I am not sure how much is too much. I throw 3-4 whole leaves of kale every day raw. This along with Manitoba Hemp protien. I also began using Amazing green grass powder. Which is packed with green veggies. http://www.amazon.com/Amazing-Grass-Green-SuperFood-17-Ounce/dp/B0038B3AAK

u/threei · 1 pointr/loseit

I don't really eat enough vegetables, the amazing grass helps out and you don't taste it at all in a shake. https://www.amazon.com/Amazing-Grass-Green-SuperFood-17-oz/dp/B0038B3AAK

You can use any protein powder you want. Pbfit is powdered peanut butter. Regular peanut butter is 190 cal for 2 tbs pbfit is only 55.

u/SirNilsOlav8 · 1 pointr/running

Mine is similar to most, but I drink this pretty much every morning:
1 banana, 1/2 cup almond milk (give or take), 4-5 strawberries (give or take), handful of spinach (like kale, can't really taste it when blended), 1/4 cup some other berries depending on what looks good - sometimes mango or peach if they're in season, 1 scoop of [this stuff] (http://www.amazon.com/Amazing-Grass-Powder-60-SuperFood-Container/dp/B002BHSKAC/ref=sr_1_5?ie=UTF8&qid=1409866415&sr=8-5&keywords=superfood), 1 tbsp chia seeds, and some ice to taste.

u/lod254 · 1 pointr/thedivision

My year off was all the OT, but no where near as much as you because they have to pay me 1.5x and I'm an engineer, so that hurts them.

I maintain my diet Pepsi addiction on the diet. I should kick it.

How tall are you? I'm 5'8 and sitting at roughly 202. I've got decent muscle on me though because I used to workout regularly. I was pretty trim at 175 so my old man goal at 30 now is 180's.

If you're looking for an extra boost or caffeine alternative, try this stuff. I like the lemon-lime caffeine stuff just mixed with water. It tastes like weak ice tea to me. The original (no caffeine) tastes nasty unless you mix it with something. It might work in tea. I use Diet V8 and it tastes good.

I've used chlorella and spirulina both for years, never had any sort of problem. The tastes is most people's concern. I really like it at this point. When I try a new brand, I'll take a couple of teaspoons and dump it in my mouth and eat it to get the full flavor.

My favorite spirulina is Nutrex Hawaii. Earthrise is also good. My favorite chlorella is taiwanese starwest botanicals https://www.amazon.com/Starwest-Botanicals-Organic-Chlorella-Cracked/dp/B003UYAW42/?th=1

u/mr_bacon_pants · 3 pointsr/Fitness

Fucking lowlives. Sorry your mom got scammed. These are just general supplements that won't really do anything compared to a healthy diet. I wouldn't recommend buying them all. Maybe a multivitamin and fish oil, or a b-vitamin if she doesn't eat meat. Otherwise, they're likely a waste of money.

Here are some supplements I've taken that look like basically the same thing, though I don't see Amway's nutritional facts (with the list of ingredients) so I just have to go by the marketing nonsense on their site to guess at what all is in each.

Also, /r/supplements is great for questions like this.

  1. just looks like a multivitamin
  2. a superfood powder
  3. cal-mag + d
  4. fish oil
  5. digestive enzyme
  6. b vitamins
  7. vitamin c complex
  8. green tea
  9. green tea with coenzyme q10. not sure about a supplement for that
  10. probiotics
  11. chondroitin, glucosamine, boswellia, and hyaluronic acid complex. you can find supplements and creams with these ingredients.
u/Neoncoral · 4 pointsr/xxfitness

I add Amazing Grass to all of my protein shakes (this is my preferred vegan protein) for a "nutrient boost". It's pretty economical, too!

u/jtpolo23 · 1 pointr/Fitness

http://www.amazon.com/Amazing-Grass-SuperFood-Original-capsules/dp/B0010YA02S/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1452724852&sr=8-2&keywords=green+pills

In addition to taking these, I also make a chicken noodle soup and just load the vegetables, carrots, peas, green beans, and corn and freeze it for meals throughout the week. Makes eating vegetables more pleasant.

u/rbevans · 4 pointsr/running

I didn’t feel I was gettin enough greens in my diet so I’ve started taking super green supplements.. It’s only been a couple days but I’ve heard positive results from others.

I have no ties to this brand.

u/pha3dra · 4 pointsr/portugal

Compra vegetais em pó e utiliza, por exemplo, como caldo para o arroz. O importante dos vegetais são micronutrientes que não se obtém na carne. Fica um arroz vitaminado e saboroso sem qualquer indício de vegetais :)

u/Waitwhatismybodydoin · 1 pointr/kratom

Could you get something like this to store it in? Assumming your gp's wouldn't get into it?

To everyone going vegan/thinking about going vegan: make sure you get your Omega 3 fatty acids. Flax seeds ($2 a bag that lasts a month) and blue green algae tablets (chlorella/spirulina) ($90 for a year's supply) should be consumed to keep your ALA, DHA, and EPA levels up. Don't skimp out on your health, take it seriously or you might not have what it takes to commit to it.

OP- So currently I follow a low-carb, high fat diet. I think it's actually very well suited for the trail, as fat is calorie dense (less weight/space), and may require less prep. Also hiking hard you will be burning a lot of fat anyway, so you may suffer less dramatic blood sugar swings if your diet reinforces rather than countervails this trend.

At home I eat salads+avocado, sometimes olives, always cheese, olive oil, vinegar, plus cold cuts or roast chicken slices for lunch and dinner, and generally some Belgiosio mozzarella snack cheese plus an apple for breakfast, and some fruit as dessert after dinner. For a hot drink, I like to use unsweetened cocoa powder- a couple to 3 tbs of Equal Exchange baking cocoa, plus some Belgian cocoa for some extra kick (Belgian cocoa is more acidic/bitter). I mix in 2 tbs of heavy cream. This is relatively high fiber, low carb, high in nutrients. Also coffee.

Since I go nearly stoveless at home, here's what I've come up with for a meal replacement on the trail: a shake made from:

Vegetarian trail protein shake:

Vitamins and minerals base

Fats/fiber: Powdered avocado

Fats/taste: Powdered heavy cream

Protein/other nutrients:

Powdered Spirulina

Protein/fiber/other nutrients

Powdered Chlorella

Taste/some carbs/fiber:

Cocoa (2/3 Baking, 1/3 Belgian)

Note that this is only what I've planned, although I've made pretty tasty shakes before using whey protein, avocado, cocoa, and strawberries.

For solid food, I plan on bringing dried apples, freeze-dried strawberries, cheese, Wild Zora's meat/veggie bars (excellent, especially the lamb), Chudabeef beef jerk (best beef jerky- low sugar, tasty, though go easy on beef jerky in general), and nuts. Also the aforementioned cocoa and Starbucks Via.

I also plan on bringing some Better than Bouillon and freeze-dried veggies, and some amount of freeze-dried meat to make either a hot broth or soup. Combined with the cocoa/coffee, this will be the only use of a stove I will have.

I will also be bringing some pemmican in case I find I haven't brought enough food otherwise, since it's probably literally the most calories per weight you can carry.

Hopefully this gives you some ideas!

Edit: Also I think that any or all of vitamins, minerals (especially electrolytes), protein, and fats could be what you need more of on the trail.

u/at_work919 · 2 pointsr/keto

if you're worried about it, check out this stuff. I've been using it for a couple months now every morning. Good stuff.

u/SpaghettiManDrewsus · 2 pointsr/Fitness

i use this stuff sometimes. its not too bad if you mix it with a protein shake Amazing Grass Chocolate Drink Powder

u/JamesKerti · 1 pointr/keto

Try this green drink.

I use it sometimes when my lifestyle is erratic and I can't get the kind of vegetables I need.

All you need is a glass or cup and something to stir with. It takes two minutes.

u/kleancut · 1 pointr/simpleliving

you would literally get more! Its PACKED with nutrients. https://www.amazon.com/Amazing-Grass-Green-SuperFood-17-oz/dp/B0038B3AAK

u/Lightning14 · 2 pointsr/EatCheapAndHealthy

My recipe is similar, but I also add banana, kale, and protein powder, and use flax seed instead of almond butter. If you are vegan, I also suggest Chlorella powder. It is the only vegan source of B12, a common deficiency in vegans.
