  • New Zealand Chamois Difference! Because of the long tradition of sheep farming in New Zealand, and its relatively stable weather conditions and feed availability, the country produces very high quality sheepskins on a consistent basis. Regions which have less stable climates or larger variations in temperature, rainfall, feed availability, etc...year after year cannot consistently produce the quality of skins necessary for chamois cloth production.
  • Sheep skin is hydrophilic or absorbent, the only skin in the world with this property. The leather allows the cloth to hold an average of 5 times its own weight in water, while retaining the ability to be easily rinsed and wrung out. Natural leather chamois are also made from a renewable resource, where synthetics are petroleum based products and are not.

This a a copy reply to a post from yesterday with pretty much the same question. This should help. YouTube the "Garry Dean Wash method" and do it that way.

Look into towels from The rag Company the [Eagle Edgeless] (https://www.amazon.com/RAG-COMPANY-Professional-Microfiber-Detailing/dp/B00GXRG64I/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1465578999&sr=8-1&keywords=rag+company) , [platinum pluffle] (https://www.amazon.com/RAG-COMPANY-Professional-Microfiber-Detailing/dp/B01691FHKQ/ref=pd_sim_263_1?ie=UTF8&dpID=51ZnYnkDerL&dpSrc=sims&preST=_AC_UL160_SR160%2C160_&refRID=T72HWKSGJSNY28KCRR5N) and the [creature edgless] (https://www.amazon.com/RAG-COMPANY-Professional-Dual-Pile-Microfiber/dp/B01CW21D9U/ref=pd_sim_263_23?ie=UTF8&dpID=61mdEodibyL&dpSrc=sims&preST=_AC_UL160_SR160%2C160_&refRID=4930TCHKYCSNPB5QDMAF) are my favorite. They are just better quality then CG towels and are perfect for using the "Garry Dean" wash method which is good for apartment dwellers.

EDIT: Also look into [WolfGang Uber] (https://www.amazon.com/Wolfgang-WG-3700-Uber-Rinse-less/dp/B017KSJ5ZK/ref=sr_1_1?s=automotive&ie=UTF8&qid=1465579171&sr=1-1&keywords=wolfgang+uber) rinseless wash. Its more costlier but WELL WORTH it to me. I just got a gallon of it from their website. I use it for my business on some customers vehicles and they notice when I do. Its by far my favorite rinseless out there that I have used. I have tried numerous different ones. [ONRWW] (https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00GG9FB8U/ref=sr_ph_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1465708329&sr=sr-1&keywords=optimum+no+rinse+wash+%26+wax) is good, don't get me wrong but I've had it streak and [ONR] (https://www.amazon.com/Optimum-NR2010Q-Rinse-Wash-Shine/dp/B00D8DR0AO/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1465708329&sr=8-2&keywords=optimum+no+rinse+wash+%26+wax) stains my wash media. I've never had a single issue with WG Uber and it smells like cherry candy. I feel like drinking the bottle every time I use it which makes it great to work with.

That sounds great! I'll use ONR as a pre-wash spray and the solution in the bucket. That will help keep things simple. I'm finally seeing the big picture now. I'm going to start buying a few things:

  1. 5 gallon bucket
  2. ONR
  3. Spray bottle
  4. Microfiber
  5. Opti-Seal
  6. Meguiar's Waterless Wash and Wax

Would that get me started on the exterior? I'll need to do more research on wheels. My plan is to do Garry Dean Method every month with the ONR and finish with Opti-Seal. Let it cure for 1-2 days and do Meguiar's Waterless Wash and Wax every week?

Would the microfiber I linked be sufficient for the exterior paint/windows? I was reading to use different ones for body, window, tires, interior, engine bay, etc.? I'm thinking about getting "cheaper" ones for tires/engine bay and using the 365 GSM 70/30 Blend for everything else?

I'll definitely Clay when needed! Thanks for all the detailed explanation! I really appreciate all the help.

you'll want to clean - sand -clean your case before you paint. you don't need to use anything to harsh, just some rubbing alcohol, some fine (200+ grit metal sandpaper) and then some rubbing alcohol again, make sure you keep fingerprints off the case as the oils on your fingers will prevent the paint from adhering properly.

you'll probably want to prime the case first, spray paint with primer won't do it, as you're going from a very dark colour, black, to a much lighter colour, red.

The best way of doing it is to sand everything down, paint everything in black, GLUE your stencil to the case (after the black has dried), there are some glues specific for stencil painting. Then prime your case with the stencil on the case, once that dries (DO NOT REMOVE THE STENCIL) paint your red over it, BEFORE this dries, remove the stencil. Be very careful as some of the primer paint may have stuck to the stencil and can try to rip into the decal.

After you have everything painted, put a clearcoat on it, and give it a good polishing sanding, use a good metal polishing compound, and a buffing wheel, or a cotton rag. (something like these) DO NOT use a washcloth or other 'pile'd' fabrics, they will soak up your polising compound and scratch your case.

TOWELS. Super absorbant ones too, they work great and last a long time. Its something small that someone would never think of buying, but they actually are pretty handy.

edit: My gift to you is a get away car

I recently got a big body-sized microfiber towel, and I love it. I just pat it on myself after a shower and it absorbs the water - no rubbing or scrubbing needed. I think microfiber would do nicely! Just try to find one that has a short nap (some yellow or green hand towel-sized microfiber cloths at the store have longer fibers which could fall out).
(This is the towel I got)[https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B007V4RKMO/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o01_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1] - check out the zoomed in pic of the shorter fiber lengths (product calls it a "waffle weave").
(These are the types I've found fuzz out and I find fibers on things)[https://www.amazon.com/Commercial-All-Purpose-Microfiber-ABSORBENT-STREAK-FREE/dp/B00SENQIVA/ref=sr_1_2?s=home-garden&ie=UTF8&qid=1496630872&sr=1-2&keywords=microfiber+cloth+yellow] .. we get those at my work at a car dealership, and those dang yellow fibers end up all over the clean cars even though they're just dusting them off.

A nice sponge like this one will have netting on the back designed for this task. You can lay into it pretty good, but the netting is made of nylon, so it never scratches.

After you get them off, do a nice 3 or 4 stage paste wax system on the whole car. That makes the next battle much easier; you can wipe them with a paper towel.

I Purchased Chamois Vibergs for a deal (imo) on ebay. Anything special I need to know about chamois? I picked up a brush but do I only use the rubber bristles? Waterproofing or protection? Any pointers would be appreciated.

GD: I found out chamois is the stuff they used to make these rags, go figure.

The guy I bought the setup from said this when I asked him what he used:

"The ones that came with the spin clean were just cheap and fell apart easily and left stuff on the records. Doesn’t need to be 100% cotton in my opinion what you need is really soft microfiber cause it won’t scratch anything and won’t leave little particles on your records"

These are the ones he recommended:

Thoughts?

I hear everyone talking about the Chemical Guys Ultra Plush.

I had the CG Ultra Plush MIC_1024_3 on my Amazon wishlist.

Do you use the 1024 or the 507??

I am assuming the 1024 but I will ask around to others on this thread as well.

My Eagle Edgeless 350 still left lint after a break in washing. I hope they'll pipe down after a few more washings.

u/The_Condescender · 1 pointr/AutoDetailing

I hear these are nice a little more pricey than the other suggestions...

u/KarmaReturned · 1 pointr/buildapc

This thing. You can thank me later.

u/GloryUprising · 1 pointr/Wetshaving

buffing cloth or pad. I use this: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B001Q8IXW2/

Conversely, any cotton pad for makeup works as well.

u/hellul · 1 pointr/AutoDetailing

I wouldn't use those cheaper towels on the paint. They are more suited for interior and wheels/trims.

What are you looking to use them for?

For paint - check out TRC eagle edgeless

(newer revision available on their website https://www.theragcompany.com/value-bundle-eagle-edgeless-500-16-x-16-microfiber-towel-5-pack/ 500 GSM and colors)

You would generally want a waffle weave for drying

u/ryanloh · 1 pointr/GolfGTI

I bought a 15 pack of green rags from the rag co. I usually go through about 6-10 during a wash, and keep 1 in the drivers side pocket for wiping the dash and instrument panels. Wash them as a single load with only other microfibers, hang dry.
