Male, not a camp counselor here, but here is what I take for a work trip. Only difference between that and a personal trip is I don't take 3 button up shirts, i just wear the one button up and use the merino t shirts as undershirts:

Pictures of my stuff
*I've updated a few things from what is in the pictures

  • 3x Van Heusen Traveler button ups (For work)
  • 1x Icebreaker Button up merino wool shirt (worn)
  • 1x [Packable down jacket](https://www . amazon . com/gp/product/B01G613V0M/ref=oh_aui_search_detailpage?ie=UTF8&psc=1)
  • 2x Wooly merino wool t shirts (1x worn)
  • 2x Pair wool socks (1x worn)
  • 1x Makers and Riders 3 season jeans/pants OR
  • 1x Thunderbolt Original Jeans
  • 1x Rip Curl Men's Mirage Boardwalk
  • 1x JBL travel speaker
  • 1x Shoes*
  • 1x Amazon FireStick
  • 1x Lightening to HDMI adapter
  • 2x Lightening cables
  • 2x MicroUSB cables
  • 1x Columbia rain jacket
  • 1x SeaToSummit hanging bathroom kit, small
  • 1x battery powered toothbrush
  • 1x travel toothpaste
  • 1x SeaToSumit hand soap leafs
  • 1x shaving razor
  • 1x Nose/Ear trimmer plus extra batteries
  • 1x Floss
  • 1x Axe travel deodorant
  • 1x Dr Bronners soap
  • 1x Tea Tree hair and body lotion
  • 1x travel loofa
  • 1x Grayl water bottle, empty (OR my Kleen Kanteen, but i'm liking the Grayl for filtering groty tasting hotel water)

The Boardwalk shorts are pretty great since they look like regular shorts, but are quick dry so you can swim in them too.
I've had the Thunderbolt pants for a few weeks now, and they are amazing. I don't want to wear any other kind of pants now lol! I wear them around town, rock climbing, hanging around the house. I wash them about once a week.

    Shoes
(for work I have some Johnston and Murphy slip on's, but for personal, I'm still experimenting. My feet seem to be the most comfortable in Salomon's. I have some Salomon XA Pro 3D's right now, but I've read that they're not really designed for walking/hiking all day as they are trail runners and the tread can wear out fast in the wrong places. Merrel Moab Ventilator's i wish didn't make my arch's hurt after a whole day of walking because they're a great shoe. I'm going to try some other brands and types, but I'd really try to find one that looks good enough to wear in town and has some outdoor qualities to them)

    Laptop area

1x Laptop (either work laptop or my Chromebook or Surface3)
    1x laptop charger
    1x HDMI cable
1x bag of extra AA and AAA batteries
    2x USB drives

  1. I would pay off all of my debts and spoil my kid. Maybe get myself some stuff as well?

  2. A bowl with fake lemons in it. Anybody who does that has their life together. Haha. For real though, I would like to just decorate with random stuff. Like hey, here's shelf on the wall that has a vase on it cause why not?

  3. I can't choose just one, but i'm a fan of these. This one is more subtle, but has interior fur.

This one is black and more ostentatious, but if paired with the right clothes, it can look super classy.

This one isn't as ostentatious, but has a touch of fur to let people know that you can be fancy as fuck without going all out.

This one is my favorite, honestly. I actually really like the white one, but the black one is pretty neat.

This one is more practical, but still has a good look.

Again, more practical, but doesn't look too bad.

  4. Unfortunately, I don't read books nowhere near as much as I used to, so i can't really recommend anything.

  5. Here are some ideas for nice boots.

Also, i'm not sure on your budget, but here are some ideas for nice Jewlery.

  6. Not sure on the quality on some of these, but they're at least somewhere to start from. I hope that you like!

  7. I nominate /u/IceCage42! This person is always nice and takes the time to comment on a lot of people's random comments in the daily/nightly thread (including mine). Thank you!

What about insulated coveralls like the people working in freezers use? The people using them are on forklifts, so low activity, and they're still warm. I have a set that's much less insulated, but it's much warmer than separate jacket and pants with the same insulation would be. They're pretty baggy, so you can wear extra clothing inside if you need to. They're also dirt cheap compared to most very warm down jackets. Weather resistance isn't guaranteed, so take a closer look or treat it yourself.

There are insulated coveralls for other niches too, like hunting and snowmobiles. Hunting and snowmobiles coveralls should be weather resistant.

Let me know if you want some recommendations to use as a starting point.

In the meantime, what about a less expensive synthetic jacket? It may be bulkier and heavier, but synthetic insulation won't be compromised as much by moisture, which could definitely be a problem if you're rolling up your windows and wearing this thing every day. I'd also like the idea of spending less in hopes of losing weight and fitting back into that awesome Canada Goose parka.

Freeze Defense 3-in-1 Winter Coat

u/crizthakidd · 1 pointr/malefashionadvice

ive got this massive parka
https://www.amazon.com/dp/B012YMJGYC?th=1&psc=1
but its slim fit in the arms and chest. perfect for a slim guy like me 5'8 BUT the hood is rediculously huge. my tailor said his machines wont be able to cut through the thickness that i should take it to someone with bigger equipment or a shoemaker since they have more heavy duty stuff. i really like the jacket but wish it had a much smaller hood. anything i can do ?

u/RLRYER · 2 pointsr/malefashionadvice

I recently got this field jacket from spiewak. It feels pretty good but I haven't yet taken it through the winter. The inside lining is navy removable thinsulate while the outside is a nylon waterproof shell. I ahve taken it through a rainstorm and it performed very well. The fit is nice and slim and I really enjoy the olive/gray color mine came in. The only complaint so far is that the shell is slightly too heavy and not breathable enough to use as a summer/fall rain jacket.

I did get it for less than $100 when I bought it, even though retail is like $300

u/lundah · 4 pointsr/chicago

If you're looking for just one coat to keep you warm through the winter, a 3-in-1 coat like this one would be best. This design lets you wear the zip-out liner or shell separately for milder days and then combine the 2 layers for when it's really cold (you'll still want to add some layers under the coat, though).

Personally, I have 3. A lightweight Marmot fleece lined soft-shell jacket similar to this, a London Fog wool car coat similar to this one, and a heavy down North Face parka like this one for those really cold days that are coming. I paid about $75 for each of them by shopping discount stores like Marshall's or finding good off-season sales (the North Face parka was originally $350, I got it at REI for $100 by buying it on clearance in August, then also applied a dividend to bring the price down even more). Wool and down are the best materials to look for, both insulate well.

Just moved in to the East side of Cleveland for school and am trying to get ready for the winters. I live about a mile away from campus and walk/bike there, so something warm that blocks wind is a necessity. Being a student, I'm trying to keep price down as much as possible without sacrificing the quality; trying to find something around $150 or less (unfortunately something like Canada Goose is completely out of the question). Ideally I'd be looking for something that could be used when I go on hikes in colder weather too, but keeping costs down is more important. Having a hood and not being too puffy would be pluses too. Here's an a couple different jackets I've been looking at to give an idea of what I'm looking for:

L.L. Bean Trail Model Down Hooded Parka

Carhartt Arctic Quilt Lined Yukon Coat

Alpha Industries N-3B Parka (not a fan of the fur)

One last part: would I be better off with a heavy duty coat or should I just layer up? Layering up would probably be cheaper since I can use a few things I already have, but would it keep me as warm/dry? Thanks in advance!

u/stonewalled87 · 1 pointr/Random_Acts_Of_Amazon

So I went to the men's shirt department on Amazon & then just selected streetwear, these are some of the shirts I think he might like if he is a rapper, but this is a non-rapper female perspective so take it with a grain of salt:
Shirt 1
Shirt 2
shirt 3
Shirt 4
Shirt 5
Shirt 6

You said he snapbacks, I don't know if he is a bulls fan but here is a Bulls snapback

For the winter's this is a little pricey but here is a DC winter jacket also here is another down coat still a little pricey though. It's hard to find a cheap winter coat.

For Jeans I would say just get him a few pairs of Levis, everyone likes Levis and they last a while.
Hope that was helpful!

I'm in the market for a warm outer layer that I can wear when temperature drops in the -5 to +5 (C) range at night when hiking up on a mountain. I don't want to break the bank but I wanted your guys's opinion on the jacket I found on amazon. I understand I will be lucky if it lasts 2 years but I really like how it compacts into the small compression bag. Also, I can easily wear my fleece and / or rain jacket overtop of it to boost its capabilities a tad. Let me know what you think of it for a $32.55 jacket.

u/dooog · 1 pointr/malefashionadvice

Super late but I don't want to wait for tomorrow haha. A couple questions: does anybody know about Spiewak quality? Also, any opinions on this parka by them? It looks super warm, but I'm not sure how comfortable that fur lining will be. Also, I feel like it might look gaudy with the fur on the hood.

u/fap_like_a_sir · 1 pointr/malefashionadvice

Not likely as winter is approaching fast, but check out amazon as they probably have versions of last years jackets somewhere. Look at similar brands by the north face, columbia, patagonia, etc. Just found this pretty easily. Sort price from high to low or else you'll be looking through tons of light jackets. Good luck!

u/NAKED_AND_JAMESON · 5 pointsr/frugalmalefashion

I grew up in Indiana, now in college in Michigan. If you're looking for a full winter jacket, I wouldn't go with this because it's likely too lightweight. Another frugal option is Eddie Bauer; they have constant sales so their MSRP is misleading, but they do make good clothes with a lifetime warranty. This is a good option for about $140 on sale. You can also find Alpha Industries N-3B jackets on Amazon for decent prices as well.

I'd expect to spend about $100-$120 on a jacket that will be warm enough for full Indiana winters and last a while.

u/BigPaulieEh · 1 pointr/frugalmalefashion

The alpha industries slim fit parka is great for the price. You can find them in sale occasionally for a little over $100, but I'd pay the $140 they are on Amazon and still be happy with it. I had to size down to a medium to get the fit right. Link

u/themadscientistwho · 13 pointsr/frugalmalefashion

I just got [this] (http://www.amazon.com/Alpha-Industries-Parka-Black-Small/dp/B0058YZQE8/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1408413206&sr=8-1&keywords=alpha+industries+parka) jacket for winter in Michigan. It's really warm and the quality seems really nice. And it's the brand the U.S. air force uses, so it's probably pretty good, plus I've seen it recommended on here a number of times before.

u/Samwow625 · 52 pointsr/malefashionadvice

I need a new winter coat. https://www.uniqlo.com/us/en/men-warm-tech-down-coat-172994.html is $50 off right now. I can't decide between the black and green. I usually wear dark wash jeans and a t-shirt/button down. Also I know last years model needed to sized down but am not sure about this year's model.

I am also looking at the Alpha Industries Slim Parka on Amazon https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B005BXEQ3I/ref=ox_sc_act_title_1?ie=UTF8&smid=ATVPDKIKX0DER&th=1&psc=1. It is a little cheaper at checkout today on Cyber Monday. Torn between Sage and Replica grey for that one.

EDIT:

Ordered them both. Uniqlo has free returns through PayPal and Amazon had free returns on Prime.

u/SureLockHomes21 · 1 pointr/malefashionadvice

Looking for a nice parka or really any kind of outerwear for winter. I've had my eye on the Alpha Industries Slim Fit N-3B Parka in sage/orange or replica blue/orange. I like it a lot, but I'm insanely skinny(5'8"-5'9" 115lbs.) and I feel like even a small would look huge on me. I guess I'm just looking for a decent coat sub $150, with a preference for parkas because I've never had one.

u/milesdavisjr · 1 pointr/malefashionadvice

I you're still interested I'm 90 percent sure it's this jacket. I own one, and it's awesome. I'm 6 ft 160 lbs and went for the large.

u/vidhartha · 1 pointr/frugalmalefashion

FYI- also on sale on Amazon with free Prime, so costs are nearly the same if you need to ship.

Edit - whoops, looks like I got the last of the sale @$126 for slim N3B in replica blue.

u/R_DOSS · 1 pointr/uncharted

I just bought this one off amazon because i was looking for a new lighter summer jacket and because it sort of reminded me of nate's jacket...

Don't know if you were interested in that Khaki one as well but I think I found one like it for a decent price!

Amazon Essential has a Packable Down Jacket for $50, and a Packable Puffer Jacket for $40.

The only difference seems to be that the Puffer Jacket uses a synthetic filling.

I have the Puffer Jacket and can confirm that it's very warm, water resistant, and feels at least as good as the Uniqlo Ultra Light Down Jacket. I live in San Francisco, where it's perpetually kind-of-cold, and this has quickly become my go-to everyday jacket.

u/wardser · 3 pointsr/nyc

just buy a parka

Alpha industries n3b slim is pretty popular and cheap: http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0056QPH9C/

wear that and you won't care if it's -20 degrees outside. Sure they don't look as stylish as a leather jacket but at least you'll be warm

u/TNAKK · 3 pointsr/frugalmalefashion

I'm looking for a stylish winter jacket, do you think I should just go with this cheap H&M parka, or shell out the extra cash for this alpha industries parka. I'm also more willing to spend the money on the alpha industries parka since I have a $100 amazon gift card.

More or less. The most common colors are olive and black, so you can still rock the monochrome look if you want. And it looks like are lined fishtail parkas.

Alpha Industries Men's N-3B Slim-Fit Parka

Bought a M in the recent Amazon lightning sale, paid $70. Amazon is not letting me exchange for size S without paying regular price now. If anyone wants this jacket I'm willing to pass the deal along plus actual shipping to you and any Paypal fee.

If you had to pick a real winter coat for Wisconsin winters: Alpha N-3B Parka in Navy or Sage or L.L. Bean Ultralight Down in Gray or Navy. I can't even begin to decide.
